my fever by alien stories is not like before, like when I read the series "Ice Planet Barbarians". I think they have lost their charm for me :(

This one was better than the first one, yes, but i still don't like it enough to continue with the following stories. Meh.

3.5 🌟🌟🌟 – Another sweet and undemanding read, with a nice addition of the warrior healer. Fairly basic prose and limited plot and character development. A nice quick read, especially for those sci-fi challenges

First I need to preface that I only read this book and the rest of the series to fulfil a challenge as the kidnapped by Aliens trope isn't really a favourite of mine and I don't read too many in the genre, so I'm not particularly disposed to rate books from this sub-genre high.

This is the second instalment from the Vaxxlian Mates series by Sue Mercury. This second novella benefited from the longer page length to develop a more nuanced story, but still there's only so much you can do in terms of world building and character development within 102 pages.

I liked the idea of the warrior healer and I was pleased again that although the female protagonist is given little choice but to go with the Alien, he goes out of his way to make her comfortable and court her in his own way. The female protagonist roles over a little too easily, but at least it is not in the face of force, like some of the kidnapping alien trope books out there. Other than the gentlemanly nature of the aliens and the warrior healer element, the book treads the familiar territory in this trope rich genre, but is mildly diverting nonetheless.

The writing style is still very pedestrian and I was able to finish the book in under an hour. If you're looking for a sweet, undemanding alien romance that you probably are unlikely to remember that long after you read it, but will meet a challenge roll and engage you for an hour, then this book and the others in the series are probably a good bet.

This was just what I needed on a nasty cold Monday! Some hot, sexy, happy Alien hotness.
I'd love a Stax, lucky Mila he found her just when she needed help most. Will these two be able to find some happiness or will her past come back to bite her on the tushie???
I was more then happy to read and find out, really enjoyed this one!

It’s such a pity, this book could have been amazing, the world was well thought out, the characters good, but I just hate the whole I’m a male and all decisions and choices are mine, you’re a woman the only thing you are to do is open you legs and womb and obey.
A little hint here..look up authors like Anna Hackett, Amanda Milo, Anna Carven and yes even Ruby Dixons barbarians are more respecting of women then this. Those authors got it right, Alpha is only sexy if it’s a partnership.

Another wonderful alien story. Mila is running from a fiance who is very controlling . When things go wrong, she finds herself in a world of trouble and hurt. Stax sees her and wants her. He doesn't know what is going on but he's determined to find out. He'll fight for her. I loved the connection between them and can't wait to read more!!

This is an OK sci-fi alien romance, but it is just a bit too short to have enough character development. There was quite a bit of background on Mila, but I really needed more back story on Stax. It would have really helped me to enjoy the story more.

I also thought it was a bit unlikely that Mila would have fallen for Stax as quickly as she did. She would have been grateful that he saved her life, but wary of his declarations that she was his mate. So the romance was pretty unbelievable to me. I also think that the idea of them having sex without protection, when she wasn't sure she wanted to be his mate, was pretty stupid. Neither one of them would have wanted to risk a pregnancy if they thought they might never see each other again.

One thing that really bothers me about all the books in this series, though, is the idea that the Vaxxlians have that it is OK to take a woman against her will. Some of the books even describe Vaxxlian men arriving home with their "mates" kicking and screaming. That doesn't sound like a mate to me -- more like a slave. It doesn't matter how good the woman is treated. If she is there against her will, she is a slave.

If you are looking for a really quick sci-fi alien romance, with some steamy scenes -- and don't mind a lack of character development, this is a good choice.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Alien/Human build a new society together
Mila finds herself as the only witness to a murder on the planet she was delivering goods to, trying to gain help for the injured man she found herself being accused of the killing and then within minutes she was tried and sentenced to death.
Put to death under the “Lifetaker” she awakes to startling green eyes of the most handsome male she had ever seen, Stax had rescued her and had fought of those that would have taken her from his safe arms and his space ship.
Stax had taken her to his home planet of New Vaxx all the surviving Vaxxlian males had built homes on the planet and had then left in to find mates, they had discovered that the only lifeform they could successfully mate with were humans and he had already fallen in love with the beautiful woman he wanted to make his mate.
When they had returned to New Vaxx she had found it, to be beautiful, the mated pairs were happy many expecting children already and they seemed so content and also it was obviously they were all deeply in love, the women and children cherished by all.
However, Mila had a dark cloud on her horizon and that was the male she had run from when her father had accepted his proposal, arranging for them to meet she found Ivan to be cold and aggressive, his only reason for the arranged match was so that his family appealed to those Yozovinla persons from the lower cast like his future wife.
She refused to be matched to any man that had no love or generosity in his soul, marriage to such a man would be like a living death so she had acquired a space ship and become a pilot.
This was an entertaining read, I started and read the book all in one
I voluntarily received and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

This is the second story in the Vaxxlian Mates, a Sci-Fi Alien Romance and these books just keep on giving! In this amazing, SciFi series, each book tells its own story and can be read, as a stand alone but it is more enjoyable if, you read the series in order since characters from the earlier book are mentioned. Mila’s family and friends have perished, she is running and hiding from the man her father has chosen to be her husband. She is lonely, desperate and is sentenced to death on a distant planet. Enter Stax, a gorgeous, Alpha, Vaxxlian alien, seeking a human female, as a mate. Yes, he finds Mila, rescues her and heals her physical wounds. His planet Vaxx has been destroyed and the survivors, now live on New Vaxx. Stax has suffered the loss of family and friends, but his brothers are among the survivors and are rebuilding a life on New Vaxx.
When Stax sees Mila, he knows they are meant to be together and she is to be his mate. They are electric together but have their own things to work through and understand. Mila has problems with trust and deciding to accept Stax, who is protective, possessive and loving. They don’t have an easy path. They are adorable together and I love their interaction.
Sue Lyndon and Sue Mercury are very talented authors and continue to dazzle us with these stories. They delve into the depths of our emotions and complications of our relationships. The characters are well developed and has them facing their inner fears, learning about themselves, opening themselves to trusting and realizing that one can grow and gain understanding of the gift of love and all that it brings. The story has beautiful romance, suspense, mystery, HOT sexy scenes, danger and is fast paced. They show us that we can heal and be better than we ever imagined. Thank you, Sue Lyndon and Sue Mercury!

Mila didn’t do it. She could never kill anyone but that is what they keep saying she did. They had the wrong woman but they didn’t care. Her life was forfeit. Stax was angered by how the Defenders could kill a human. He knew there was no way she was a criminal. He would take her to his home world and she would be his mate. But would she be safe from the crime that is still pinned to her?

It is a sweet story. If you read the first one, Alien Protector, you know that the Vaxxlian are a kind race of aliens. Their world is dying and humans are compatible with them. They have flown everywhere to find mates and bring them home. Mila had a few secrets that she didn’t want to tell Stax which I thought was foolish from the beginning. He already told her he would never let her go. That was a trust thing with her. Stax, well he was the sweetest alien. He cared deeply for her and would do anything. Mila’s secrets were major and once finally revealed, honor and duty to protector her was Stax’s highest priority. These are really sweet stories. I would say “feel good.” I look forward to the next brother’s adventure.

It's OK if you haven’t read much sci-fi romance

There’s nothing interesting here—not the story, the sex or the characters. It's uninspiring. It’s like the author was on autopilot and trying to finish pages not tell a story.

Mila is so irritating. She's boring, painfully predictable and quakes in fear too often. Worse, she’s TSTL (Too Stupid To Live), which creates a completely avoidable conflict spanning the last third of the book. Too much “I’m bored, so I’m going to endanger myself and others” and “I’ll ignore security because I know better” and not enough common sense.

The writing ventures into turgid, purple prose, mostly from Stax. It’s cringy. He’s this overly-understanding alien who is so chivalrous and polite that he isn’t appealing. I’m not saying he needs to be an Alpha-hole, but he’s too needy and saccharine.

Maybe my disappointment is partially due to mixing up the author’s pen names. Sue Mercury is lighter and less explicit, while Sue Lyndon is edgier, darker and sexier. I think the author’s passion is in her Sue Lyndon books. They're better written. Try them instead.

I liked this book despite its confusing beginning.

Chapter 1 - Mila is sentenced to death. The lifetaker had already taken 5 lives before it was supposed to take hers (none of the other 5 were human). The lifetaker attacks her, she feels the pain and then nothing and has an out of body experience. Stax finds her in a pile of bodies and proceeds to heal her and is then attacked by the ones that executed her. ?!?!?!?!?!? If she was discarded with the other bodies - was she dead? Did Stax bring her back to life? Were her executioners just too stupid to realize she was still alive? How did a fragile human survive? If her executioners thought she was dead, why did they attack Stax?

Chapter 2 - epilogue - Now we get to a Sue Mercury story. Stax is attentive and protective of Mila and has claimed her as his. Mila grows attached to the caring alien that saved and healed her. Stax proves his love and commitment to Mila and an epilogue with a couple year skip provides a nicely rounded conclusion to the story.

I am looking forward to the other brothers' stories.

I enjoyed this book very much. It has a tall, muscular alien who is also a Healer and a very good one due to his great intelligence. He is also tasked, as is all the men of his planet, to seek a human woman to mate with. He finds his woman as she is near death after having been wrongfully accused of murder on a planet with an uncivilized population. And as a healer, he does indeed make her well. She is quickly attracted to him, and is overwhelm by his sexuality as well as his devotion to her and his honor. But she is also hiding a big secret from him, and she is worried it will ruin their relationship. She is very happy making a new life with him on his planet, but constantly worried about her secret. When he discovers her secret will it ruin their seemingly perfect relationship or will his love for her overcome all obstacles. It is worth the read to discover the answers for yourself.

I needed some sexy alien smut and it looks like I found it with this ARC. Ya me, ya us!

While there was alien on human action, I sometimes wondered, in the beginning, if Mila liked Stax because she had Stockholm Syndrome. At the same time, I feared he liked her because she was human and he needed one as his mate.

Despite my initial concerns, the chemistry they share feels real and does their growing love.

1) What worked for me:
-Stax was a romantic alpha, that worked for this mama
-the steamy scenes were detailed

2) What did not work for me:
-I needed more descriptions of Stax as an alien because at times, it seemed like he was human
-Mila was too submissive for her own good

Trigger warning: N/A

Ideal reader: a lover of alien-human sexy time relations

Alien Healer, by Sue Mercury.
This was a great little story for a morning read—only 120 pages long, but a great read.

It’s the story of a young woman who is sentenced to death, nearly dies, but is rescued by an alien male who is looking for a human mate. It’s a great thesis for a story and does not disappoint.

I liked the healer story because of the gentle nature of the hero, a seven-foot male whose planet has been ravaged by a war in which most of its women have been killed. Thus the need to interbreed with humans, with whom his species is compatible.

The story is not without its violent moments, nor without its passionate ones. A nice blend of romance, excitement, and love. Sue Mercury is an author whose other works under that name I will explore, as well as her steamier romances under the name of Sue Lyndon.

I enjoyed reading this book.

The life taker was an interesting idea I would have like to hear in more detail what it actual did to kill a person.

The nano bots were a new idea I had not read about before, as well as the bride hunters. I would have like to have read about what the bride hunter are like and what they would do to a bride the catch and how much they would charge to track down a bride on the run. A book could even be written about a bride hunter catching a bride falling in love and then running off with the bride.

Mila pretty much agreed to become a mate from the start I would be interest to read a book in this series where the bride was not so willing and had to be won or woed.

What a great story this was to read. It was lovely romantic and had that makes you feel good feeling. Thes warriors are so protective of their women. Although it was short and i read it under 2 hours the characters and the story line more than made up for it.

Mila has been accused of murder and just when she thought she was dead she wakes up in a medical centre on board a ship? Then she remembers a man fightening for her, and that man is Stax, a Vaxxlian who is a healer who has come to her rescue.
But now he wants her as his mate and to have children. But theres one thing Mila isnt being truthful about.. and soon that one day will come.....

A must read book, just before bed if you wish..

Mila was on a planet with a barbaric justice system. She witnessed someone being killed and called for help but was arrested as the person who killed the Horsthaian. She;s sentenced to death. She;s flung into the lifetaker;s pit but when she awakes she;s on a spaceship. She meets Stax, a Vaxxlian. He rescued her and healed her. Now he is taking her to his planet as his mate. He has five days in which to convince her to be his or their will be a battle among the Vaxxlians for her.
This is a lovely little story about two people one of whom is looking for a future the other who feels there is no future.
Fantastic story!!

Better than the first book

This so the second book in this series and it had a bit more excitement. It is also a bit longer. I liked this one better because of the conflict.
Mila ran away from the human settlement on planet her family lives on. Her father had signed a marriage betrothal for her to a rich man on the planet. She had met him once and known that he was a cruel man. So when, due to extenuating circumstances all of her family died, she ran away so she wouldn't have to marry him.
Stax is one of Deza's brothers. He rescued Mila when she was about to die on a barbarian planet. He knew that she was the one to be her mate.
What happens when Mila tells him about her betrothal? How will they survive when she is being hunted down by her betrothed?

This is a spicy sweet story about love overcoming everything. Mila and Stax are sweet together, especially how Stax wants to protect Mila and Mila wants to protect Stax.

Mila is running away and trying to keep hiding, but she nearly dies, until she's saved by Stax, who sees her and wants to make her his mate.

They don't have an easy path of it. They both have their own things to work through, especially Mila, and it's hard for her to trust, even when Stax says all the right things. But, when you've dealt with what she has, it isn't easy to get past all that. But, they are totally cute together, and I love their interaction.

A runaway bride, alien style

Mila is a solid character, who easily will pull you into her story. She literally dies for a crime she didn't commit but that's still not the thing she's running from. Staxx is also a strong character that is easy to like. He is honest from the beginning and worships Mila from the moment he meets her. Their story has some violence, so m e intrigue and lots of steamy bonding times. I enjoyed reading this story, it was interesting, dynamic and full of characters that were relatable.

I want to live in New Vaxx, it seems such a lovely place. This is a nice romantic story which I read in one sitting. Stax has rescued Mila from being executed for a crime she did not commit and he instantly fell in love with her. There was an instant connection but Mila had a secret which would weigh heavy on her conscience. This is the second book in this series and I now need to read the first about his brother and then books about his other brothers which I know are going to be just as good. Recommended.

This is a wonderful story about a human who has gone through a lot, including being sentenced to death and so she has a lot of trauma and emotional scars to heal from. She then meets an alien who saves her and wants her to be his mate, he’s prepared to protect her from everything and everyone. The characters are very likeable, and the story moves along at a steady pace. It’s an enjoyable sci-fi romance to read.

A fun novella

A human in dire straits and an alien that rescues her.
Stax finds Mila on the brink of death and heals her. He claims her as his mate and the story builds from there.
I love novellas and this first book I've read by Sue Mercury is no exception.
A perfect ending to the dramas that unfolds throughout the story.
Opinions are my own and unbiased in this review after reading this book borrowed through KU.
I will be reading more.

Sue Mercury strikes again! I absolutely adore her alien romances. This one was no different. I adored the relationship between Mila and Stax. Mila is the kind of heroine I love; strong, willful and passionate. Stax is the kind of hero I love; protective, caring and oh so decadent. But those two together and you have the kind of passion and love we all dream of. I loved everything about the plot and what a great ending! All in all this was a wonderful book and a perfect sequel.

What a delightful story of Mila and the alien 👽 Stax who rescued her from a certain death. I really enjoyed the Insta attraction between them, it didn't seem to rushed for some reason.

But Mila is keeping a close secret from Stax that may cause a war.

Read to find out what happened once her secret is revealed.

Mila’s lucky day has an unexpected beginning

Stax, and his medical inventions, were alluded to in the previous story, and here we get to truly understand and appreciate them, and in the end discover the reasons behind the invention.

Stax is a strong, caring and compassionate character, with a healer’s heart, and while he may lack a poets way with words, he expresses himself plenty well to win over Mila, and in the process me / the reader.
