Painfully slow another being generous with three instead of two

I get Space Opera is character driven but the characters have to be interesting for the reader. I unfortunately did not find them interesting. Little to no growth of the original characters and the new planet held no interest. I kept starting and stopping hoping the next chapter showed promise.

I thoroughly enjoyed this second book of the series. The characters are more embedded into my psyche, and so I'm enjoying their interactions with Reynolds more, and I really enjoyed the goings on in Grindlevik 3, too!

I loved the total contrast between the two tribes there. The Grindlovians being so very inactive, almost to the point of no return (thank heavens for the Pod docs, hey?), and the Telluride's almost being their opposites, made for a good plot, especially after Jiya and the crew try to help them normalise their society!

There was so many points of interest to mull over when I finished the book, that I almost forgot to review it, and that would have been a shame, as it's too good a story to leave nothing about it.

I must admit, I'm really hoping that, in book three, we get to learn more about the Loranian ship that's shadowing them, and how the Kurtherian are involved with them, as I'm sure it must be something very complex! Lol

Anyhoo, with this book finished, I looked at my reading list, and I'm due to go back to TH and Char, in book six of the Bad Company: Discovery.

I always enjoy going back to TH. He puts in a lot of fun, even in a battle situation, so it's always a plus for me when I get back to his adventures!

The fun continues! This second book in the series focuses more on the AI as separate from the humans, giving each their due and their own places in the story. The fun really takes off when another AI joins the party.

I love the creative take on AI meeting AI and how that helps differentiate the human crew members as being human and not part of the AI running the ship. Human struggles and foibles are brought out into the open and dealt with in a healthy way, while the AIs face their own struggles and seek solutions.

This author is very good at taking challenging human conditions and putting light on them in such a way as to get us to think about positive solutions. We are thinking about the way forward and not dwelling on how sucko the situation may be. So, this is an emotional journey as much as it is a space journey, but either way there is a lot of fun in the discoveries made along the way.

Great Story!!!

I think what keeps me reading these books is the influence for the betterment of all species!!! No one does it better than you! From the author's notes, I've come to realize that is because y'all are inherently wired that way. Every author seems to live to not only entertaining us, but to help others succeed with them. I absolutely love all of you! You're good people!!! And you bring it big in your works. You inspire others, me for sure, to make our world a better, kinder, helpful and inclusive place. Somewhere that everyone gets to feel like they matter and are loved, just because we are all human, and all essential to our world. We are all the same and of equal worth. There's truly no reason why we can't enjoy Peace on Earth! Put our egos and judgemental BS aside. And just treat everyone with respect and love. Right!?!

So many lessons!

The crew and their new friends have much to learn from each other. I greatly enjoy the mirroring of challenges and dangers from our own societies in the books. There are truths we should be exploring, yet mostly don’t due to allowing busy-ness and a sense of complacency to overwhelm us.

There are a lot of extreme contrasts, which allows for much conversation amongst the crew. Also some interesting cultural differences, and some teaching opportunities.

Of course we have lots of suspense, intrigue, action and laughs along the way; as what would a Kurtherian Gambit story be without these? Overall, another excellent book and I’m looking forward to seeing what Reynolds finds in book #3!

Liked the first book

The second was pretty much a waste of time. Reynolds was in a big hurry to find Kutherians but spend months on a planet totally disrupting the natural order just because they didn’t agree with it. Apparently they don’t have a Prime Directive. Also, if this is a military syfy space opera, I’d like to see a little more military bearing in the crew and officers. Were I Reynolds I would have already gotten rid of Jiya and replaced her with Maddox as First Officer. But that’s just me. I’ll probably read the next book but if all they are doing is traveling the galaxy changing each planet into what they consider fair or at least to their liking, then most likely I’ll be hopping off the train.

Great character development a fun book to read

I'm an old enough reader that all of the throwback references were welcome and enjoyable the character development was great the storyline was fun something I'm willing to pound through a few books just to get to the original stated mission. While this takes place in the kurtherian universe it stands on its own regardless if you have read any of the other books written in the same universe. I would say don't be daunted by needing to read anything ahead of this series it stands on its own but it also ties into the other books that if you've read them it's enjoyable to see all the interaction. Looking forward to hitting the third one of these books in the series and going on from there

Another good book in this series, again the story is character driven, and as the series continues, we are getting to know the characters better. New characters are joining the crew, which I am sure will make the story more interesting in later books. We see Reynolds and crew visit a planet hoping to do some trade and technology exchange, but they find a very different society and lifestyle on the planet. The plant is defended and run by an AI, with one side of the people doing all the work and the other acting as their master. The results of the groups meeting has some unexpected results. This is a great story and I highly recommend it!

Like the story

I like this story line and the characters but a few things confuse me.

**** Possible spoiler alert ****
Like when a crew member aboard the Reynolds can leave the bridge for coffee and the AI Reynolds can be on the planet below, find out about it and take a pod back to the ship and beat her back. Of the opposite when crew members can seeming reach the surface from the ship during a short conversation. Of the fact that people with no space experience seem to get up to speed in a very short period of time.
**** End spoiler alert ****

All in all though, it’s a fun read. I’ll be buying the next book in the series.

Violation of Prime Directive

I was surprised that this story was available already after reading the first review. However, evident hear too much about the super spaceship but a lot about interference in another culture. Isn't that a violation of the Prime Directive? They were happy with the arrangement so who are we to cause disruption? Also, it seemed overly simple. Anyway, it was a pretty good story and since I obviously read it, it can't be TOO bad. I hope it works for them.

Good book, but not balanced.

I enjoyed this book but I did not feel it was very balanced. The character driven scenes are excellent because it is space opera but space opera also has action in it. There was very little action in this book, that’s why I felt it was not very balanced. Another thing, you have characters who know about the pod doc but you haven’t subjected any of them to any kind of enhancements or age reducing Nana sites. Your scientist in the book is elderly so why wasn’t he put in the pot dock? Besides these issues it’s a very good book.

A really good second book in the series

The first book in the series was a great intro to Reynolds and crew, this, the second grew from the seeds planted before, expanding on the characters whilst bringing more into the family.
New storyline's and characters kept it entertaining, events unfolding showing even AI's are 'human' and have room to grow.
I am so looking forward to book 3.

Good Read

AI Reynolds and his crew continue their adventures as they approach a new planet. Powerful defense systems, aliens with culture differences, and sneaky ships hiding in the Background create challenges. Can they help these entities and continue their mission against the Kurtherians? I like the action and humor. I like the character development. I look forward to the next book.

Reynolds journey continues

Reynolds and the crew continue there travels and reach the planet Grindlevik 3 defended by a AI that will rival Reynolds. They have been followed by a formidable ship is there something familiar about it? The crews interactions with the two races on the planets develops their own relationships and you still have the snarky comments from Reynolds other personalities to enjoy. This story takes us nicely on to the next journey in the series.

I didn’t understand what was going on in this book. Reynolds was obsessed about tracking down Kutherians, but suddenly forgets about their mission. Instead they start messing around with socially reforming a planet and haggling over inconsequential technology. Then there are pages and pages of two AIs arguing with each other. All really boring stuff.
The first book wasn’t very good, but this is just poor and not worth my time.

Loved it!

I read the first book and immediately grabbed the sequel. Bible thumpers beware. The language is raunchy and the humor off color. But, a true Sci-fi addict will love the references to the panorama of Sci-fi movies, tv series, and books. I loved both books and hope to see a third.

More from AI with Multiple Personality Disorder

This one continues with Superdreadnaught Reynolds ongoing mission to seek out... wait a minute that sounds too familiar. Well he is meeting new friends and enemies while hunting down Kurtherians to eradicate. All with the snarky banter between Reynolds, XO, Comm, and the “crazy” one on Tactical. A laugh a minute for sure.

YMMV

Of all the pieces of the BA universe, this is my least favorite. I was a bit disappointed in the first book, but I felt that I should give book two a try. CM is a favorite author and usually I enjoy his work, but this MC just doesn’t strike a sympathetic chord with me. I’m sorry to say I give up.

New World , New People, New Problems

Our friends have a whole new set of problems to deal with, plus their old ones are following them. They must come to terms with an AI who is much like Reynolds plus figure out how to save a planet full of people. Two races both enslaved to each other.

The crew and AI of the Reynolds are starting to grow on me. He's got a soft side for us meat bags, and isn't afraid to show it, a real good doer in the galaxy. Still not sure what the aliens who he is tracking down did to become the target of of his wrath but I hope to find out soon. Wish there was more explaination about how there are so many similarity in this distant galaxy to life on earth.

I am not of a scifi-opera fan so I started listening to this series and a little worry. But the story pulled me in and the movie references kill me from tactical. The John-Cab lol. But the story kept evolving in each book with new characters coming in all the time. The SD Reynolds was and steam rolling death machine that issues made the stories all that more enjoyable.

Weird planet

The Superdreadnought finds itself at a planet with 2 races of sentient beings shortly after another ship portals in at the same spot they come in and starts a fight. I found the story interesting as they stick around long enough to help out with a in equality problem and make more friends. Loved it, couldn't put it down.

Another series to love

This combination of authors are masterful at creating great characters and compelling stories. As the crew of the Reynolds and Reynolds himself becomes a cohesive unit the trials they go through are pure entertainment. All of this while changing the society run by yet another AI. Enjoy!

The AI is settling into being captain

I enjoyed this book, thought the story drug just a little wanted more info about the ship that was following them.

Another great book

Very enjoyable, full of action and thought provoking. When does technology become a hindrance.
How this book dealt with the problems and curing them was interesting.
Also I love how the A.I is so emotional.
