Although I have been a published author since the mid 1980s, I have been writing women's Christian fiction almost exclusively since 1999.

There is a longer, more detailed bio on my website so there's no need for me to repeat all that here. Right now, I write for all three Love Inspired lines, Romance, Suspense and Historical. I'm delighted to have been included that broadly and besides, it keeps me so busy that I stay out of trouble. Well, mostly.

You'll find me on the LI Historical blog as well as other LI features. If I try to do much more I won't have time to write my books!

Awesome read. It's not the norm to have the guy in the story in trouble, so that was a cool difference. Loved the humorous interaction between Kaitlin and Daniel. I laughed several times. One of the most entertaining suspense novels I've read in a while

EMT Kaitlin North responds to a call about shots fired up in the mountains, she is surprised to recognize the wounded man as the one who gave her a break back when she was down and out. Now in order to save his life, Kaitlin must keep undercover cop Daniel Ryan one step ahead of the hitmen who are after him.

On the run with nowhere to turn, and not knowing who to trust, can Kaitlin and Daniel turn the tables on the hitmen and give love a chance?

Kaitlin has used her second chance well, making a career of helping others while thinking on her feet. She is good at calmly taking charge of a situation and is ready for the challenge of taking on new experiences. She is very committed to her faith and her calling to be a first responder.

Daniel is working hard to blow a case wide open, but there are insiders working against him and time is running out. He is a quick thinking man of action, he is determined to see his job through to the end, and is strong in his faith.

Overall, a fast paced, action packed read from the very start. Strong, intelligent characters, with an engaging plot that kept me riveted to the book. I really enjoyed this book, and admired Kaitlin for her faith and commitment. Highly recommend!

Such a fun read, I absolutely loved it! So, ever since I discovered (and got obsessed with!) the 70's TV show Emergency! a few months ago I've been on the hunt for stories featuring EMT's/Paramedics so when I stumbled onto this one it immediately piqued my interest, that combined with the fact that the heroine shares my name added up to me needing to read it! I loved it so much, the action was pretty much nonstop, and I loved the humor and witty banter! This is seriously one of my favorite Love Inspired Suspense novels that I've ever read! I borrowed the audiobook from the library and the narrator did a fabulous job, I definitely plan to purchase both audio and paperback copies for my collection and re-read this story in the future!

Marked for Revenge by Valerie Hensen is a romantic suspense with lots of action. The storyline revolves around two characters; Kaitlin and Daniel. I liked the role reversal in this book. Daniel is shot and Kaitlin is taking care of him and helping with hiding him from all the people that want to kill him.
However the author does not try to make her wonder woman, she struggles with making sure she is making the right decisions both in keeping Daniel alive and how far she can push and still keep within her values.

Kaitlin was an EMT and happened to be on the scene when Daniel gets shot. When she goes to visit him in the hospital later she realizes how much danger he is still in. He recognizes her from many years ago but she doesn’t recognize him until he brings it up. That also helped you understand their relationship.

Their banter I was also excited to recognize some of the places since the story took place in Missouri. Her trip to what I assume was Bass Pro was funny.
I would recommend this action packed and fun mystery.

I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review.

This one was one non-stop thrill ride and I read all of it in under two hours. It might not be the most realistic journey on the planet, but it was realistic enough for me, and I enjoyed the diversion thoroughly. It was a fun twist to have the lady have to save the guy. I enjoyed both MCs and even forgave them the instant attraction, which normally bugs me.

Much better than the first book in this mini-series in my opinion. This was a great story with lots of exciting moments and characters I really liked. Plus as I live 30 minutes from Springfield, MO, it was fun to see it in the book. Very enjoyable read!

"Marked for Revenge" is a romantic suspense novel. I liked Kaitlin and Daniel and their banter. They were the only two characters that were really developed since they were on their own for most of the story. Kaitlin enjoys the excitement of being an EMT, though keeping a sick and injured police officer alive when there's a bounty on his head was a bit too much excitement. Still, Daniel once helped her turn her life around, and he needed her quick thinking, street smarts, and medical knowledge (not to mention her money and her truck) to stay alive. She insisted that he follow her orders when it's a medical-knowledge issue, and she'd follow his orders when it was a police-knowledge issue. She got to give her input into everything else, especially when Daniel was too sick to make good decisions. He respected her input and knowledge.

So they worked well together as a team, though they sometimes disagreed. They also had a similar sense of humor, and I can understand why they fell in love. The suspense was created by the constant physical danger to Daniel as the target of the bounty and to Kaitlin because she's helping him. I still don't follow why Kaitlin (or Daniel) couldn't have called his boss way back at the beginning as the boss was the one person that Daniel trusted. The fact that previous friends were turning on him did make his avoiding asking anyone else for help seem reasonable.

Kaitlin became a Christian back when she turned her life around, and it was the motive behind many of her actions. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I enjoyed this funny and suspenseful story.

As an EMT Kaitlin was called to help out a shooting victim. It was a blast from the past when she ended up helping undercover officer Daniel. Things seem to get complicated when its revealed that he's undercover and there are people after him and Kaitlin offers her help whether or not he likes it and they are in a run for their life situation until they can get to his superior officer who help him.

I loved that this was a pretty fast paced book. I loved how headstrong Kaitlin was, she was not the type to back down when things are looking grim, shes the get away driver who trusts her gut and helps where she can and Daniel relied on her help whether or not he liked it. I also loved that this book was more focused on the mystery rather then the romance and this book was clean and was plenty faith based. I loved that there was plenty going on to keep the readers hooked, with twists and turns and its a great book I really enjoyed it!

Well this one was pretty good lots of action and I enjoyed the heroines quick thinking for the most part until the end when she let her emotions cloud her judgement thankfully the hero is able to be the quick thinker.

EMT Kaitlin North goes out on a call for a gun shot victim and ends up saving the victim in more ways than she could ever imagine. Police officer Daniel Ryan thinks he’s doing okay hiding out until he’s shot in a place that should have been safe. Now he’s on the run with the woman who had saved his life earlier and has put her life on the line again to keep him alive until he gets to his captain. Emotions are running high and a bond has drawn them close and now love is at stake. Hopefully they can survive to see if they have a future.

3.5 stars (rating shown may vary depending on review site).

Overall, it was a good read though there were parts that lagged. I agree with another reviewer that it is rarer to have the female main character as the "healthy" one and the male main character as the one needing more help.

There are a few hanging threads--was Letty ever apprehended/punished for helping the bad guys find Daniel?

The previous to the story relationship between Daniel and Kaitlin makes their romance more plausible. It does seem that they gave it a year before contemplating marriage so that makes me feel better that it wasn't just a proximity and danger romance where the feelings might change once the danger passed.

I love reading Valerie Hansen’s work! Marked For Revenge is the the second in her Emergency Responders Series, and is a real page turner. Non stop action and y’all it’s soo good! I loved how she brought Daniel & Kaitlin together and explained their connection and then neither one of them was going to leave the other. They were both in it for the long haul. They had humor and banter but understood that it was serious and dangerous. They way Kaitlin just took action to save Daniel’s life, more than once, was great.

I really enjoyed this clean, love-Inspired, suspenseful romance. I bought this at a local library sale and I voluntarily chose to review this story. I've given it a 5* rating. This story pulled me into it from the very beginning and just kept tugging till the very end. There is a lot of action with plenty of bad guys to dislike. I really enjoyed these characters. It was kind of scary with the medical condition to take care of, in the the middle of everything. It does have a happy ending that wrapped everything up. On to my next read.

2.5 stars.
It was alright, but for the most part I found it hard to get engaged in the story. Sadly I started off a bit bored and disinterested. luckily the story picked up enough for me to continue to the end, but for the most part I was ready to be done.
Not a bad story. I may not have been in the right head space for it. Not something I'll return to I think.

Marked For Revenge

Really great storyteller. A cop that had been undercover was identified and was in hiding when found and shot. An EMT on the ambulance recognized him as the cop that had given her a second chance and when a hit squad is after him she helps him get away and to safety. They developed a relationship and when the criminals where dealt with they were finally together.

This was my 2nd time reading a book by this author and I loved this one so much more than her other one!!

This one was a quick and easy read and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time!! Even tho it was a Suspense it was more of a Thriller type book than it was a Mystery/Suspense book.

I'll definitely read more by Valerie in the future!!

Disappointing

I generally like this author but didn’t really enjoy this book. It didn’t feel as well written as her other stuff. Seemed repetitive and I found the characters frustrating. I’ll keep reading her as I like her work, just not this one.

Probably 3.5 or 4 stars, this Christian throller is gripping enough, and definitely worth reading. I simply found myself wishing there was slightly less focus on the budding romance between Daniel and Kaitlyn and a little more detail about the situation. If you like mysteries, this is a good one, and, for this reader, the faith shown makes it even better.

So far, I have read two different romances--this one a suspense and the other an intrigue Harlequin novel--from Harlequin, and I have not been disappointed. They're great stories, and they're clean (at least the ones I read were), so they're awesome choices for girls who are younger and want to read the romance genre with a little bit of suspense and thrill thrown in there. If parents are looking for a novel to give their teen daughter that they can be sure is safe, Marked for Revenge is a great choice. The main characters are both Christians, so that's a bonus for anyone who's looking for that.

Even if you're not, the plot and story are fast-paced with plenty to hold your attention, and it isn't bogged down by a bunch of preaching or religious sermons from any of the characters. God and prayer are openly discussed, but I feel the author wove it in very tastefully and made it a true part of who her characters were as opposed to a poorly hidden stab at pushing a viewpoint on the reader. I really appreciate that. As a Christian, I appreciate the tact and the fact that she was also willing to be open about her beliefs and her characters' while doing it in a manner that doesn't bog down or ruin the story.

If you're not usually one for romance but do love a good thriller or intrigue novel, this is still a good choice. The romance is obviously a portion of the story, but it isn't the only thing going on, and the danger posed by outside forces to the characters' well-being keeps things from getting sickeningly sappy if you're not fond of that. This isn't written to be a teen romance novel, so, as would be expected of a thriller romance, the romance and the thrill are given equal parts such that they weave together to form a story that would be greatly weakened if either were removed.

Kaitlin North is training to become an EMT. She is out with an ambulance crew when they get a call to an isolated cabin. When they arrive shots are fired. Kaitlin is told to stand down and wait until the police arrive but Kaitlin sees lots of blood on the front porch of the cabin and fears the person inside might bleed to death without medical intervention. She breaks into the cabin and finds a man on the floor with extensive bleeding from a leg wound. She doesn't find out the man's identity until they get to the hospital. Seems the wounded man is Daniel Ryan, the St. Louis policeman who let Kaitlin off without an arrest when she was a rebellious teenager mixed up with friends into drugs. What a coincidence! Kaitlin believes Daniel saved her life by that kind act. When assassins try to take out Daniel in the hospital while Kaitlin is visiting she helps him escape and they go on the run together. Their pursuers are breathing down their necks the whole time Kaitlin is trying to get Daniel to safety.

Marked for Revenge by Valerie Hansen is the second book in her Emergency Responders series. This book is filled with action, suspense and thrills. Being chased by assassins leads to lots of exciting scenes. Daniel was in hiding after his partner was shot and killed and the police chief believed he was mistaken for Daniel. Daniel had been working undercover and was outted by someone. Thus the assassins on his tail. Valerie Hansen tells this story in a clear, concise way and works in the action scenes quite well. Fans of action and suspense with a couple falling in love in the middle of all the action will enjoy this book.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Marked for Revenge. This is book two in the Emergency Responders Series. I really enjoy Valerie's work and this book is an excellent example. This story is well written, action packed and full of faith. I know you are going to love it.

Rookie EMT Kaitlin North and her team respond to a call out in the middle of nowhere. They are shot at when they arrive on the scene. Kaitlin disobeys orders and runs around the house. She finds a rough looking man unconscious, shot in the leg, and he has lost a lot of blood. They transport him to the hospital. He tells her he was the one that saved her life a few years ago. As he in danger she takes him out of the hospital to save his life. Can she protect him and keep him alive with a life threatening wound?

Undercover Police Officer Daniel Ryan had been the victim of a nearly fatal kidnapping. Now he is on leave and ordered into hiding. His boss believes he is suffering from PTSD. His partner is dead and his fiancee is blaming him. Now there a price on his head and assassins are after him or is he being paranoid. Shot in the leg he realizes that this could be the end. He recognizes Kaitlin right away as she saves his life. Kaitlin is in the room when his ex-fiancee comes in telling him they are here to kill him. Kaitlin helps him escape and go on the run. Can they keep each other alive? Can they find out who's trying ti kill them?

A terrifying journey to try to survive as killers are chasing them. God has a plan for these two; a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Give him your heart and watch Him move in your life.

This was an interesting book from start to finish. Kaitlin is one of the EMTs that go out on a call to a cabin where a man has been shot. She doesn't recognize him on sight but he remembers her. Daniel is hiding after a case he had worked went sideways and he isn't sure who on the police force he can trust any longer.

I liked the characters and how the author wove a past story in with the one unfolding in front of us. The story was a bit stretched for me but it flowed well and the author did a good job of keeping the action going. Danile and Kaitlin's romance is unique as they are so different. She is completely impulsive and he is in control. It was an interesting mix.

Overall, it was a 3/5 for me.
