Volatile Obsessions

Lux

The streets of Miami became my home at a young age, streets that weren’t always very pleasant or forgiving. I hustled hard to get by, refused to seek help. I did plenty of things I’m not proud of either.
But I made it... Now, this is my city.
My merciless streets.
My empire.
So I don’t know who the hell Roman King thinks he is, storming in here and throwing around demands. He wants my power.
My throne.
Well, news flash for him…
Over my. Dead. Body.
I’ll wreak havoc on his life far worse than the demons of his past, demons that somehow mesh so well with my own…
He will bow down to this Queen.

Roman

She bloody warned me, threatened me with war, but those threats hold no power over me.
They don’t faze me.
Summoned to aid this city in ending her era, I’m the leading pawn on the chessboard meant to dethrone the Queen.
She’s vicious, ruthless, corrupt—a challenge I fancy a little too much.
So let this vow be heard today...
Miami will burn to the ashes, but in the end, it will rise, reborn from the blood of her empire. The depravity that runs through my veins will consume every tear and relish her cries for mercy.
Lux Mercier will kneel at my altar.
The King will reign.

Review to come as I gather my thoughts.

All in all, a great read. More soon.

***

I went into VO by Dee Garcia without any expectations. I hadn't read any of her previous work, although I had seen her books around as some of our readers run in the same circles. I didn't hype this book up in my head to be anything specific because I didn't know what it was going to be - to me, the blurb seemed specific to the characters, their tones, thoughts, wants, and so forth, and not specific to the plot itself. I'm not sure if these characters have shown up in any of Dee's previous works, and if they have (or have not) this written as a perfect standalone because you can't tell.

What drew me to this book was--and still is--the cover. There's something about the colors that makes it so beautiful, even in its grittiness. And well done to Dee, because I know she designed this cover herself. Not gonna lie - I am a cover h00r. And so, if something pretty catches my eye, I will more than likely buy it based on that alone.

Which was my intention with this book - still is once in paperback, I will have a physical copy on my bookshelves because I like covers that standout on my shelves, and this is certainly one of those. But for full disclosure, I was given an early copy ... no review expected, and not that it matters, because I bought my own copy the next day anyway.

So, back to this review.

I didn't go in with expectations, I knew very little of Dee's writing style, or how she would portray her characters.

Roman and Lux come alive on the pages - together, and separately. In some ways, mirrors of one another, and in other ways, volatile to each other. It's a push and a pull - vicious, and harsh - and yet you're left waiting, almost breathless, for them to figure it out, and come together. Because really, how can they not?

They are both individuals who have been dealt a crappy, crappy hand by life, and have somehow managed to turn it around to be at the very top of their games.

Which is where they come together.

Or rather, come to ruin one another.

There's a lot of unhanded dealings happening in this book - characters on the side that you are given a preview to their nefarious business that makes you wanna slap certain other characters upside the head and scream, "Can't you see what they're doing to you?"

And I suppose that's part of what makes this book so viscerally entertaining and interesting. It's how this author makes you root for them while knowing who their enemies are, and what's about to happen. Because that's exactly what I did, and it's what kept me flipping the pages.

Roman is entertaining, and enigmatic. An anti-hero you want to cheer for, and a man you'd enjoy staking a claim to, if given the chance.

Lux is what many women want to be - tough as nails, worked her way from the ground up, and ~almost untouchable.

I say almost ... because well, read for yourself. And in these characters, whose traits and behaviors are so inexplicably tied to their f-you attitudes and don't give a crap actions, you find vulnerabilities. People may quirk a brow a bit at that, and think, "Right, Queen and King, who are really just a lost little girl and boy underneath their tattoos, violent natures, and interesting dialogue."

Guess you missed the point, huh?

Because yeah, that's how it should be.

That's what makes them great.

And real.

All in all, Volatile Obsessions fits its title, delivers a read with a punch, characters you want to love and kill, and a unique storyline that breaks some rules, and sets its own.

Well done to Dee.

Pick up a copy. And enjoy, loves.

5 ***A King Only Bows To His Queen*** Stars

Roman Roman Roman…. This man has got me thinking of doing such dirty thoughts to him. Call me a hoe… but he brings out the inner slut in me.

"I love you," I grated out, nearly breath-less as the words left my mouth. "Do you hear me? I love you with every" -thrust - "fiber" - thrust - "of my fucking being."

A Calculating sinful devious love story that is wicked to the very core.

Hold onto your hearts and panties because Daddy Roman is here, and you’ve been a naughty girl. Gah THIS BOOK!!! You guys… Volatile Obsessions by Dee Garcia was emotional, poignant and simply gut wrenching in the process. It was a perfectly written story that had me glued to every page right from the start. This is without a DOUBT in my mind Dee’s best work yet.

Without giving away too much, Roman King is the new alpha male in town.. and will definitely give you a run for your money. He has the dark broody ice and unfeeling exterior… which makes him seem untouchable and callous. But the way he falls for our heroine. . . even if it may seem detached.. shows that he is indeed capable of love.

Lux Mercier was a strong resilient woman who went for what she wants. She was the perfect match for Rome. Lux was a breath of fresh air, she was smart-mouthed and sharp-witted.

Volatile Obsessions was truly a masterpiece in itself. Dee Garcia writes from the heart and it shows. This story was a nail bitting read full of passion, and suspense. It’s dark and gritty that had my heart racing. The characters, storyline, was pure seduction.

I was given an advanced readers copy of this book and have decided to leave a voluntary honest review. Just by looking at this cover it's one of those books I knew I wouod have to read. The cover is alluring and pulls you in. Now that I have met these two charcters I'm crazy about both of them. Roman is like sexy boy toy you just want even small piece of. And lux is our bad ass you want to be friends with her. I love both of them hated each other it made the sexual attraction even stronger.

PARLIAMONE.

I’ve read a previous book by this author and loved it. This was even better if that is at all possible. I absolutely loved it.

From start to finish I felt I was on a speeding rollercoaster that wasn’t gonna let me go until I’d consumed it all.the storyline is brilliant with twists and turns I couldn’t have predicted.

Roman and Lux are two awesome characters that blew my socks off. I couldn’t get enough of them and was sad to see it end.

You ever read a book and you want to delete it from your memory so you can read again and have all those feelings for the first time? Well this is that kinda read for me. Absolutely brilliant. Can’t wait to read more from this author.

Oh dear, there’s a turning point in every author’s career we can see, as a reader, that they’ve matured, and grown into a force to be absolutely reckoned with. This is that book for Dee Garcia, and she truly is going to impress each and every person that picks up Volatile Obsessions.
If you can pick your jaw off the ground after starring at the cover, you’ll discover a dark, and gritty world of violence, power, and two of the greatest characters ever created. Rome and Lux have simply charmed me from the start- there’s really no author that can write better inner dialogues, and make you feel you’re right there with them. Even every supporting character-I loved every single
Person in Lux’s circle of friends.
There’s twists and turns you won’t see coming-and the plot is so well developed and thought out my eyes were often bugging out of my skull. This is easily one of my top reads of the year-I’m calling it already.
You don’t want to miss this authors best work-it’s absolutely to die for.

Another great read from Dee Garcia! I have read all of her books and loved them all! Volatile Obsessions was highly anticipated for me, and it was worth the wait! It’s sexy, angsty, and dirty. Just how I like it!
Something else I loved about this book is the playlist. Each chapter has a song that PERFECTLY relates. It really enhanced the reading experience for me.
I definitely recommend this one if you like enemies to lovers, angsty reads, and hot, tatted characters that will have you drooling!

I have never been one for the loss of words. Expressing myself via writing has always been easier for me, especially when it comes to literature. Yet, I face quite the conundrum here, because this author has left me with a million thoughts and no idea how to go about expressing them.

Who would have known that not long ago that I would interact with an author in a party room on Facebook and not only would I find a new favorite author but I would get to experience watching her grow into her talent? I sure didn't. However, grow she did.

This book was a long time coming. I know many people were frustrated but not as frustrated as she was. She demands perfection and has a specific way that she wants her stories told and it isn't as much as how she wants to tell the stories but rather how the characters are demanding their stories be told. She is the vessel that pens their voice. Which when it comes down to it is the very reason that I fell in love with her writing style.

I can continue to repeat time and time again, that she writes with a certain cadence that is uniquely hers (she does), or that I love her stylistic choices (I TOTALLY do), or that she makes unique characters that are always light juxtaposed with dark (A million times yes) but that might get redundant so instead the bottom line is this; she writes with a passion that connects to my soul and makes me turn off all outside distractions. I turn off my phone, pour a glass of wine, and settle in because I know she is going to take me on a journey where anything other than her words holds little importance in my life. I become consumed in her world and therein lies the beauty of reading as a whole but also the magic that this author holds.

I am not one to give spoilers or even a recap of the book. Instead, I like to draw in on what a book makes me feel. What I will say is that Lux Mercier and Roman King are life. The way they wage war on each other with their actions and their words were fire. I couldn't help but have several moments where I caught myself smiling like a Cheshire cat myself. It was delicious. The opening scene...HOLY cow. That build up did me in for the rest of the book. I FELT the energy permeating off of them as if they were gasoline and just waiting for the match to have them ignite. There is steam, (sweet holy titfire) is there steam, there is deceit, and there is suspense.

There is an amazing playlist, in fact before each chapter she puts the recommended song so that the reader can experience the mood of the chapter. All of the characters, main and secondary, are amazing. I want, no I need (not going to lie) Suki and Stryker's story. They were all well developed and were fleshed out to make sure that the storyline was cohesive. The storyline itself was unique and definitely not a cookie cutter romance. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough while at the same time I dreaded it because I knew that it would be that much closer to an end that I didn't want to see because I LOVED these characters and this story. This is a darker romance. It deals with some uncomfortable issues and unsavory parts of society, yet the author did a great job at making it part of the story and dealing with the aftermath. It wasn't included just to embellish the story but rather enhanced the story.

Once upon a time, I wanted to write a book. Until I started reading for fun instead of what was required for my degree. I quickly realized that my lane of writing is academic or nonfiction because I most certainly cannot do what she does because anything this author writes is magic in my eyes. She is a unicorn and one I will gladly leave it to her to write all of my heroes, anti-heroes, and feisty kick-butt heroines because I know she will do them the justice that I never could. Definitely going in my favorites of 2019.

Now, in hindsight, I guess my earlier statement of being at a loss for words was not correct as I see the length of this review. I still stand by it though because I am not sure if this review even does this book justice.

I was so, so bored. This far in and pretty much all that has happened is a bunch of stupid talk about how tough and evil and dangerous is but...nobody has done shit that is tough or evil or dangerous. Too much yammer, not enough action.

Maybe I'm just in a mood.

I adore when a book meets all my expectations. This did just that. I fell in love with the cover right off the bat and it still remains one of my favorite covers ever. I waited for a long time to read this because I have a tendency to enjoy paperback books more than e-books for whatever reason. Luckily, this was completely worth the wait. The chemistry between the characters was amazing. I LOVE them. I do have the feeling Lux wouldn't like me if i met her in real life. She'd probably think I was a pussy. 😅 And oh Roman *swoon* there's something about a man that when he falls he falls hard that just does it for me. Another thing I really loved was the worldbuilding. The characters' style was so clear as was their surroundings. The fact that the people on the cover could have been exactly the characters in the book REALLY did it for me...down to the eyebrow tattoo❤ Another thing i really loved was that each chapter had a song listed and all the music was mentioned was right up my alley. There are quite a few other books by this author I've been curious about and even more so now.

First off, this cover? Wowzers. Freaking epically hot.

Yet again I'm torn. As much as I liked this book, I didn't like it. I had Volatile Obsession so hyped up in my head and I was disappointed with a lot of it. I was expecting Lux to be a bad ass queen of Miami. Instead I found her to be oblivious. There was so many times I questioned how she even made it to the top. Her right hand man didn't listen to her and plotted her downfall, yet she saw none of this and kept paying him like he was doing a good job. After he royally messed up and did the unforgivable, I thought "well now Lux will show her power". Instead of killing him she just kept paying him and ignoring him. She was weak. Roman was too. I expected so much more out of these two. What I got were kids trying to play an adult game.

While what I didn’t enjoy tended to overshadow what I loved many times, there was still a good bit I really did enjoy. Roman was hot and delicious and the chemistry between Roman and Lux had me fanning myself from the heat. I really did love these two together. I just wish the rest of their story had been a bit more. I know it sounds like I hated this book, I really didn't. There is a lot to like, I just didn't grasp or like Lux's role as Queen. The back and forth push and pull from Roman and Lux was hot and their romance heated the pages!

Title: Volatile Obsessions
Author: Dee Garcia
Genre: Dark, Contemporary Romance
Rating: 5/5

ARC received in return for an honest review.

This was a new author to me and WOW what a book to make a first impression with, it was AMAZING.

The main protagonists Roman King and Lux Mercier were combustible together despite the way they waged war on one another with their words as well as their actions, and talk about chemistry, some of the scenes were just.. put it this way there was plenty of steam so much so you could practically see it pouring from my kindle.

A unique storyline with a more darker theme, filled with suspense and laced with deceit which will have you captivated from beginning to end. If you’re after the standard cookie-cutter romance then this one may not be for you, like I said it’s darker and deals with issues some may find uncomfortable but the author has done it justice with the way in which it’s been written.

A solid five stars out of five from me and I can’t wait to check out the authors other books.

“You wanna play? Let’s play, love. I guarantee you’ll lose”

3.5 🌟

I was really excited going into this book because first of all the cover is to die for and the blurb sounded amazing. Immediately, I liked these two main characters and could definitely feel their sexual tension that was described in the book. I absolutely loved Roman and being inside his head. He was sexy as hell too.

I was a little disappointed that the whole “war” between the two didn’t really last long and I found it was a lot of talk and not a lot of doing on their parts. I found that we didn’t really get many scenes or mentions of Lux’s whole operation and how she came to be a drug lord.

Aside from a few things, I enjoyed this love story and the last 80% had me at the edge of my seat.

In the beginning it was a bit confusing with a few of the mens names all sounding the same.
I loved Lux. Strong females are my favorite thing in a book.
Roman was a strong male character also.
I loved that these 2 were covered in tattoos.
I loved that there was some extremely steamy scenes.
There is some "taboo" scenes in the book, but I thought they were tastefully done.
3.5/5 stars from me.
This was my first Dee Garcia book, but not my last.

Lux and Roman’s story is a combustible love story. This talented author has given her heart and soul into penning this poignant masterpiece, which is filled with angst, deceit, suspense, violence, twists, passion, emotion, and is a dark raw, and gritty read. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this talented author, whose work I highly recommend for all lovers of the unexpected.

"I wanted her to feel everything with me-every single solitary emotion-because ultimately, owned would be her favorite. Lux was going to love being mine."

Some parts of this book I really liked, Rome's magnetism was unquestionable, their attraction undeniable, the heat between them was palpable BUT...at times it lagged, the slang (although characters mentioned to be from England) was weirdly placed and the flow kind of halted at times. I thought it was an exciting and suspenseful book, but Lux didn't quite reach the full "Queen of Miami" for me for reasons I really can't mention so as not to give anything away, but I just didn't feel it. I did like the antagonists, I thought they were done well, and it was easy to feel anger at their part in the story, and the end was exciting, although pretty far fetched but I won't give that one away either. Even though it wasn't one I inhaled, I imagine most readers may love it more, and I enjoyed a majority of it. I thank the Author for providing a copy to review.

"I loved her more than anyone I'd loved in my life. And should anyone try to take her away from me-may God be with them. I'd kill for this woman. Raise hell for this woman. Mine."

I have to admit, I'm kind of mad at myself.

I spent more time staring at the cover of this book than is healthy. But THIS COVER! It's the best thing ever. And unfortunately, the best parts of this book are the cover and the prologue.

I was soooooo excited, especially after the prologue. And it started off strong.
But then I got confused. Are we drug lords or are we college students? I don't hang out with drug lords, so I don't know for sure... but whatever.

This book was great when Lux and Roman were badasses and fighting the attraction. But once they quit fighting they turned into little pussies. And that's pretty much how the rest of the book is, until the very odd ending that seemed to come out of nowhere. And all of a sudden Suki, who has not been portrayed as a badass AT ALL, has more balls than anyone else in the book. WHAT?

Eh... but, I may still make that cover my phone's wallpaper.

NAH, NAH NAAAH.
12- No entendí nada.

description

„Volatile Obsessions” is my first book written by Dee Garcia and after reading this one I know that I need more. What drew me in the first place was this wonderful cover which has something different and spoke to me as much that I knew that I need to know a story behind this cover. And big kudos to the author who as I read designed that cover by herself.
Without giving much away cause you just have to relive this story by yourselves, Roman King is another alpha male in town and will definitely give you a run for your money. His unfeeling exterior is definitely broody ice which can make him to look like he is untouchable and callous. But how he falls for the heroine, despite that it may feel a little detached, shows that after all the coldness he is capable of love.
As for other character Lux Mercier is a strong, resilient woman who is not afraid to go for what she wants. She is definitely a perfect match for Rome. She is a breath of fresh air with her smart- mouth and sharp wit.
So in general this is amazing story that will keep you hooked from the beginning until the last page. It is a kind of nail biting story full of passion and suspense, dark and gritty that will keep your heart racing. Everything is great in this story from characters to storyline. Another must read for this year.

This. Fucking. Book. (Excuse my French, but WHAT)

I could not put this down. I skirted every responsibility I had, for the most part, to finish this masterpiece. Lux and Rome? YESSSSSSS please. Dee builds a world so realistic and powerful that you truly feel what the characters feel. Her use of descriptive imagery? So on point that I had goosebumps countless times during this read. It was long (which I love) and I never felt a lull in drama, or any parts that made me want to skip over - which I'm notorious for - and I could NOT stop reading.

Dee Garcia is a one of a kind wordsmith and I will boast about her until my last breath, she is THAT good. I cannot wait to read more from her if this was her earlier work, I can't even begin to think about how much her writing has evolved and grown - and it was already fucking spectacular!

A. Must. Read.

5 stars for Volatile Obsession by Dee Garcia. Is it weird to say I want to be Lux. “I’d be damned if any man thought he owned me. No one owned me. NO ONE. Lux Mercier rode solo. I always had and I always would because there was no one person on this planet who could handle me in all my depraved glory, let alone ride with me until the very end.” This is a dark romance at its finest. Oh, Rome how dirty can thee bee? This man pulled me in. Rome and Lux were two characters who are made for each other. Lux is the top of the drug business in Miami, that is until some mysterious man comes in and plays games trying to take over. I honestly feel this, is on of my top reads this year. Oh and the play list with this book was epic. I listened while I was reading and it made the story that much better.

Okay this was an almost 4/5 stars but for a standalone some of the plotholes left were to relevant to say their story concluded.

Like who was the russian boss? what exactly did Lux do that made Vic create this elaborate revenge plan...one that failed because Rome fell in love with Lux...and they joined up...is liza and lux secretly sisters of one of their parents affair or heck relatives somehow...? Like the whole bts of the double crossing was entertaining but...the forefront playout of it all...fell short?

I know some of the questions in my head were answered, but it felt like there was more playing at hand than in reality.

Regardless, this author really has a way with writing story/words, it all flows nicely.

Also, 1/3 of the book I really wished the title of the book was actually Games of Deception or something...cause damn there many hands reaching for the gold imo😅

TW. sa goes on a vicious circle for almost all main characters sadly
