One bad decision. Several steamy nights and one marriage of convenience, what could possibly go wrong?
I’m Deeandra Morris. The good girl. The golden girl. The girl mostly likely to…help out. I was tired of being the good girl. Tired of being every so helpful and so I vowed to start living my life on my terms. Then came the offer I couldn’t refuse. Help the sexy playboy I couldn’t stand become Mayor and my life would carry on as normal. So I said yes. Played the role and did the deed. Then I went and did the unthinkable. I fell in love with my fake husband.
Everyone looked at me and thought, there goes Reynaldo Calvetti. Rich, handsome playboy, town outcast and the guy every girl…wanted. I was so damn tired of doing what he was told. Tired of following the rules, of going along to get along. I didn’t know if I wanted to be Governor, but I wanted to be Maple Valley Mayor more than anything. For the first time, I wanted something just for me. But it meant relying on her. The goody two-shoes girl who could do no wrong. Until she did. Now I just have to decide if being right is worth living without her.
**** This is a standalone Novel with a touch of steam and HEA. ****
4.5 stars. All I can say Ms Cole is a very talented writer. I read a few of her early works and compare to now, she is better. I've seen her growth in writing. Although the story is cliche and nothing new bout it but her style of writing made it interesting. I could feel dee is a real person. I would be waiting for her next release.
Reynaldo and Deeandra had been acquainted with each other since childhood. He was the rich spoiled son of Italian parents who moved them to a remote town in Tennessee founded and named after a prosperous and well liked Black family. Rey As everyone but his mama called him got the political bug which suited his mama find as she was an opportunist who used the daughter of the descendants of the town of Maple as a means to further her son's agenda. So as is often the case in small towns Rey's mother learned that due to Deeandra's mother's failing health, the Maple family was going thru some financial troubles especially if mama Maple's health condition worsened. Being the opportunist mama Calvetti was she used Deeandra's mother's health to goad her into marrying Rey and helping him to become Mayor. As is usually the case with opportunists, when mama Calvetti could not bend Dee as the townsfolk called Deeandra she leaked what she thought was a damaging story about what ended up doing the opposite of her conniving plans. After much hurt and trials Rey and Dee finally admitted to themselves and each other that they loved each other and proceeded to work towards a real marriage and their happily ever after. Very good read that I enjoyed immensely.
This was your typical interracial romance. The town was named after the blacks who first settled there. Seemingly no one remembered that. Dee was the black heroine that everyone in the town loved. Rey was the hero and no one cared anything about other than his mother. He was the typical spoiled rich boy and he got whatever he wanted. He wanted to be mayor of the town and his mother would do whatever she could to get him what he wanted. She had no clue what kind of woman Dee was or what she would do for those she loved.
The rest of the book is what's expected but there was no romance, just sex. Not hot sensual sex, just sex that was often boring. Rey had no redeeming quality. Dee should have loved herself as she loved her family and friends. The book needed an editor who knew a little about grammar. The book jumped from one scene to the other with no transition. It was boring in spots and made no sense in others. The characters were underdeveloped with little backstory. The plot was thin and there was nothing original about the book.
I was left with too many questions that I'm not interested in having answered. Of course the book gave you the HEA. At that point, I didn't care.
LUV LUV LUV this book! Filled with real family drama! The constant battle between Rey & Dee were so realistic! Instead of another fantasy of a woman being swept of her feet by her handsome mate, this story had so much depth ! You could feel the emotions of Rosie & Mike (Dee's parents) The cold demeanor of Sofia (Rey's mom) And the raw emotions & tumultuous relationship between the two unlikely lovers! Jam packed full of emotion, steamy sex & surprises to keep you captivated! VERY GOOD READ!!!!
Deeandra was the town's golden girl and Reynaldo was rich playboy. Rey decided he wanted to run for Mayor of Maple Valley but he was very likeable to the townspeople. He and his mother set sites on Dee to be his fake wife to win over the townspeople because everyone liked Dee and it would him him win the election. There were conditions that Dee want in order for her to go along with this serenade. Eventually things got complicated and they had to decided what they wanted to do. Sofia was a handful to deal with. Good read....
We all know this situation and how it always ends in a HEA but the way it gets there is always the fun. This story of Dee and Rey had all the moving parts. Spiteful and bossy mother who always knows better than her jerk son. A likeable heroine who is facing an impossible situation. The way Tiana weaves it is the good part. Great story! Will read more by this author again.
Dee was born and raised in Maple Creek and family and friends meant a lot to her. Her mother was sick and even though their family wasn't destitute, the medical expenses was putting a strain on their finances. Rey wanted to be mayor and so did his mother. Rey was a mama's boy. Approached by Rey's mother, Dee makes a deal with the devil. I like the idea of the story, but some of the writing was childish.
I loved how Dee was willing to do anything to save her mother. Even marrying a man she didn’t like. The villain could’ve been fleshed out a little more. But this was a quick read, and I know that kind of person, so I mentally filled in the blanks. I love Rey’s turn around. Nice touch. If your are looking for quick, but very good read, this the book.
This author was such an easy and quick read. The story was so close to reality. Dee's character was very fun, so was her best friend Ginger. Rey was such a mama's boy who didn't know he needed to grow up. Dee and Rey grew up knowing each other but never realizing that they were meant to be. Until, unforseen circumstances threw them together.
First time reading a book from this author and won’t be the last. I loved Bwwm’s book and this one flow well. It was a few grammar errors and a couple of times I had to go back and reread a sentence because I got confused as to who was talking but wasn’t too much that it took away from the story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I laugh, cried and felt relief with the characters. Beautifully written and believable characters that stayed true to their themselves. I know I will read this story again. Story so good I need time to let the feeling wash over me.
This was an ok read. It got boring for a while and then ended pretty good. I was hoping that he outed his mom like she did to Dee. Dee is a good character who try to stay true to herself because she really falls for her fake husband. Rey is to much of a mommy boy to be running for mayor. There is no way he should have ever won with all the scandal going on.
This book was definitely one of the best love story I've read. Dee and Rey were made for each other. His mother was controlling, arrogant, and overbearing. Glad Rey finally put his mother in her place.
I like how this book tells an irresistible romantic story with moments of sadness, unselfish love, family drama and healing. This plot captures your attention giving you a memorable storyline with a HEA.
Deandra and Reynaldo don't like each other but are forced together to fulfill goals in each other's life. They grow to understand each while trying not to kill each other with kindness.
I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the storyline and the characters. I plan to read more books by the author. There were some errors in the writing that need correction but didn't take away from the story.
This was an easy read, was similar to the last book with the exception of a overbearing mother who got on your last nerves! Good and some parts rather funny.
Dee was Good, because any other woman would have been out with a Mother In Law like Sophie! Rey took just too long to see his Mother as a Monster! Glad they had a HEA 🥰🥰
Surprisingly this was good from beginning to end. Good HEA good characters and interesting backstory. Not sure what I was expecting but was a good read.
Deeandra and Reynaldo have known each other since childhood. She never was really a fan of his or liked him. He thought she was Stuck up and pretentious. Her family is well known and important in their town of Maple Valley, and everyone loves Dee. I do like that ultimately they came together as a couple who really loved and respected one another. I only gave a 3 star for this book, because I hated Rey's original attitude and his letting his mother control him. And I could not stand his mother or her snobbery.
