After a long summer at home with her grandfather while they both healed from the previous term at the dragon rider academy, Eist is back. Since her roommate from the previous year never showed up, her friend Dille has arranged to room with her, so their threesome can stick closer together. But Yachrist has been keeping secrets which drive a wedge through their friendship and tentative crush. And a great danger looms on the horizon when Eist has to rescue Fior from a group of dragon-nappers.
These books keep getting better and better. While there weren’t quite as many cute moments with the dragons, there was more drama between the teenage students. There’s that tentative crush between Eist and Yachrist, with Eist having no idea how to deal with it since she has an analytical/anti-social brain that I keep seeing on TV show detectives these days, that have trouble grasping the vague idea of romance. Then there was also Ain who decided to tell Eist what was really bugging him and see if they could come to terms with it and call a truce. I’m all for that since Ain was such a colorful character in that first book, though a bully. So, he’s back in, but regulated to the background. It feels like he needs to reestablish his personality, but minus the bully thing, which I look forward to seeing over future books. And I loved the looming feeling weighing over this book, with a random event that happens out of nowhere and then everyone shushing it up around the children, like they don’t want to involve people who aren’t ready but they will have to be ready when the evil force near the end of this book telling Eist that she is a target, as is her dragon. And for action-adventure lovers, there’s a fun adventure at the end half of the book where Eist finds herself outnumbered and out muscled.
This is book #3 of the Brindle Dragon series. It is a short book, but it sure is exciting. Our characters are growing and deepening through all of this. Our girl Eist makes some more friends in this one. They have not done too much yet, but we have found out more about the school bully and he doesn't seem to be bullying Eist this time. Her dragon is still very small and doesn't seem to be growing like the others have. Eist and her grandfather have just come back to the academy after the school was closed for harvest break. She is still suffering from the effects of her fight with the healer in the last book, so she is not at her physical best, but her little dragon is. When her dragon is kidnapped from the market, Eist knows she will die without him, so she managed to catch the wagon leaving and gets herself taken as well. Hence the title. I really liked this one.
Three books into the 'Brindle Dragon' series (four if you count the prequel 'Dragon Rider) it has become very clear that the series is essentially a single book which has been chopped into sections. It has been done quite well but it can't hide the formula used to fractionally advance the story in each episode. I can only assume that it has been done this way to maximise revenue, though that doesn't explain why it is also available as a complete series. In “Taken” Eist is slowly recovering from her injuries and Fior's slow growth is proving a worry. She fears that unless he gets much larger she will never fulfil her destiny as a dragon rider. There are indications that all is not well in the kingdom but the leaders are tight-lipped and even deny an event which is witnessed by many of the students. 3 Stars.
Summary: Simple coming of age type book, potential for better things so I'll keep going in this series, not sure about dragons. We'll see. Some of the characters are a bit 2 dimensional. Book 3 continues the theme, a bit more on magic and the blight
Plotline: Very simple plot for this first, very short, book. Ditto book2
Premise: Dragons. Magic and the blight...
Writing: Simple, descriptive, light
Ending: Well highly predictable, title gives it away really.
I’m going to say this, it’s a good story, I like the characters, etc, etc, but after the first book these are just short stories and not worth the price to buy. If they were put together there would be one novel not 3 books. It is really a disappointment. I want to read the whole series but I’m not going to spend any more money on this series when for the same price I could buy a novel for each of these books… it’s sad when an author is more about making money than actually writing a full novel. Sorry, but I’m done.
I’m really enjoying this tale as it unfolds...I feel like we are always on the precipice of something fantastic. Eist is growing into an interesting character that is building into something amazing. I feel like I’m always wanting a little more. My main complaint is this series should be a big book instead of many small ones. It feel like as soon as the story builds to something really interesting it finishes and you have to buy the next book!
Loving Fior, Eist’s dragon. He a right little character. Don’t let that fool you, he can kick some serious ass even at his size. Loving all the dragons really, they are their own characters, have their own personality. Great to see Eist isn’t alone, she has friends to help her, to stick by her.
Loving where this series is heading.

Follow Eist , Fior , their friends old and new, on another adventure. Why a red dragon drops out of the sky seriously wounded with out a rider, why no one speaks of or even acknowledges that it happened, then the kidnapping of Fior and Eist being taken along. a touch of romance, swift action, deadly danger combine to hold your attention from first page to last.
When I started to read this book I was missing a big peace of the story. After I finished this book, (which by the way is a great story and has outstanding characters which I love), I found out there was a short story. Well If your are doing a series you don't make short story that doesn't show up anywhere and the read is lost. It is a good way to make people stop reading your books.
What an adventure. After just coming back from the break over the harvest time Eist and Fior are enjoying time with their friends. That all changes when they see a dragon fall from the sky. Why, who did that and what can the friends do. Grab a copy and continue the adventure. Highly recommend.
Fast action, story telling excellent . Eist and Fior are plunged into more mayham . The slow growth of Fior is troubling. The only reason for a 4 star is the novella length of the books at barely over a 100 words. The 9 novellas would make 3 great books. To be honest if it weren't for KU I would not be able to read the series.
Each change expands to affect the next book. Eist keeps finding herself in predicaments that test her and her friends. Her poor body keeps taking the brunt of these incidents, as well as those of her friends. Something is coming, slowly but surely. Will they and their dragons survive it?!?!
I enjoyed reading this season novel. and the characters were so believable. The scenes and backgrounds were sound and believable. This novel was so well written that I could just place myself within each character. I just love books written around dragons and their respective riders.
I’m hooked! I don’t really like short books but I’m glad I made an exception with this series. I also like the fact that I don’t have to wait forever for the next book to come out. I love the action and mystery surrounding Eist and her dragon. Can’t wait for number 4.
This is the third book of the Brindle Dragon series and I can't wait for more. The story of Eist, Fior, and all their friends is well written and exciting.
I am enamored by the authors imagination. If you want action, this is it.I love action just get right to it.The characters are very good.I have sat right here & read 3 books.Real page turners.A must read for all magic lovers.
Another short but good book in this series. The heroine is slowly coming into her power(very slowly) and more of the nemesis she is fighting is revealed. Not a fan of the chapbook style series but they are good enough to continue.
This series reminds me of the McCaffrey novels of Pern. Well written with believable characters and an exciting read. I'd recommend this to all lovers of dragons and their riders.
As the story continues, Eist and Fior find themselves in great danger. Things are happening that they have no control over. Another wonderful book in The Brindle Dragon series. I love This book.
Dislike very much the length of book In a way feel cheated. Everything else is brilliant. Read three in one day - shouldn’t be able to do this. Can’t wait for the next ones.
Great story of living with challenges and growing to honor them. A balance of good and not so good moves, with growth from them . recommend for all ages
Eist is back from recuperating from her ordeal at the end of the last semester. She and her best friends go to the market where a band of thieves kidnap her dragon, but more in the bargain than they plan on. Eist isn't going to be separated from her dragon.
Short! But exciting, good reading. I wish we could have a little more friend time. But keep it coming I'm enjoy the reading more and more. Eist is really fun and I like her attitude! She doesn't believe in quitting.
This is the third episode of the series. It is labeled as a book, but is a very quick read and feels more like a few chapters. The writing is reasonably good, but not amazing, and I don't intend to spend more time here.
I’m not gonna give you any clues because I want you to have the fun of reading it for yourself. However rest assured that you are going to have a great read . The story just gets better and better. Enjoy the story grab them all.
