I love the title of this book. Beautiful Warrior. It fully captures the contents.

Author Tina Yeager reminds us women that we are warriors of God, and as such, He’ll prepare us for the battles we face in everyday life. Unfortunately, many of us have gotten sucked into negative self-talk that drags us into the mire of self-doubt, feelings of inadequacy, and jealousy of others whom we perceive to have it all. As a result, we don’t think have what it takes to answer God’s call to serve Him. We think someone else should do the work, that He can’t use us.

Through personal anecdotes and scripture, Ms. Yeager proves we are worthy and worthy of the tasks. One particular passage that spoke to me: “Shame douses us with regret like cheap cologne…Shame is not of God. The Bible clearly distinguishes shame from conviction (2 Cor. 7:10). Satan distorts the perfect gift of conviction into worldly sorrow, or shame. Unlike the forward movement God intends, shame stops us dead in our tracks, bringing spiritual death.”

Each chapter addresses a topic such as loneliness, society’s lies to women, the comparison trap, and bitterness followed by questions for self-reflection. Woven throughout the book are practical suggestions and exercises aimed at assisting the reader to achieve a healthy self-esteem. She assures readers that: “God didn’t create {you} according to earthly standards. He didn’t set another person as a model to copy when crafting {your} features.”

You will want to read and study this guide. Highlight sections that resonate with you. Turn down pages in order to revisit them. I tend to focus on the destination whether it’s a vacation or a project. I obtain great satisfaction in getting there or getting the job done. You might be the same way, but in this case, you will want to pay attention along the journey, because as Ms. Yeager cautions us: “Becoming redefined is about transformation, not arrival.”

As soon as the words slipped off of my tongue, my son raised a brow. “You’re not ‘just one Christian woman’. Mom, you’re a powerful woman of God. You are a warrior.” Surprised by his assessment, I paused and then felt a prompting from within. You are a warrior.

Tucking the thought away, I only returned to it when I burrowed into Tina Yeager’s book, Beautiful Warrior, a few days later. Brimming with rich stories and therapeutic exercises for women and older teen girls who struggle with their worth and value, this book is one I wish I’d had when I spent a long, dry season in the wilderness convinced I had nothing of value to offer my husband, family, or friends. Walking through depression and isolated by loneliness, I felt trapped and alone even in the midst of a Sunday church crowd.

Author Tina Yeager, a licensed mental health counselor, reveals her personal struggles with identity and shares openly about her struggles with comparison, self-loathing, and seeking approval from others.

Beautiful Warrior helps women move beyond the futility of comparison, approval seeking, and attacking oneself with lies of the worst kind by moving into the truth of God’s love and embracing the uniqueness of being “fearfully and wonderfully made” as His beloved daughter.

The honest vulnerability Tina weaves throughout Beautiful Warrior invites the reader to examine her own heart and experience with as much raw openness–as if speaking with a trusted companion.

But, this book isn’t one that leads the reader down a path of simple platitudes. It’s rich with scripture and includes a set of questions and action steps at the end of each chapter to encourage and guide her as she steps out of the ill-fitting garb of shame, self-hatred and lies and suits up in the armor of Christ.

If you’ve ever struggled with your value, ever doubted you matter, ever slandered your own existence then Beautiful Warrior is a book you won’t be able to put down. In a world in which perfection is airbrushed and value seems unattainable, when women long for relationship but fear rejection, Tina Yeager’s book is sorely needed.

Beautiful Warrior addresses myths and misconceptions that keep women from recognizing their true strong, beloved identities. Yeager adeptly deconstructs the untruths that keep us from being the women we are meant to be. I found the chapter “Prevailing over Loneliness” particularly applicable to my life. The practical, thought-provoking action steps the author includes make this book a great choice for personal self-assessment or even a small group or book club.

Beautiful Warrior is a phenomenal, life-changing book!

It opens with a candid and very moving account of author Tina Yeager's own experience at a women's weekend retreat that leads the reader into an issue that is relevant, timely, and critical.

In today's culture, women (and men, for that matter) are continually bombarded with messages from the advertising and entertainment industries, social media, peers, etc., and even from themselves, upon which they conceive and develop a sense of their own identity and self-worth.

The result? Feelings of insecurity. Loneliness. Bitterness. Self-doubt. Rising rates of anxiety and depression. Self-harming behaviors and even suicide.

Yeager, a licensed professional counselor, offers an antidote, a more sound approach that leads to a more accurate and and infinitely-healthier sense of self.

In thirteen very informative chapters, Yeager addresses topics such as comparison, human approval vs Godly approval, overcoming loneliness, addressing bitterness, and developing emotional strength and dignity. Each chapter provides practical, doable strategies and study questions that lead the reader from unhealthy self-assessment to a healthy one based on who she really is -- a woman created in God's image.

Yeager delivers her life-altering message not as a lofty scribe preaching from the mountaintop. Instead, hers is the voice of a friend sitting across from the reader at the kitchen table, cup of tea in hand, recounting with refreshing transparency her own experiences and sharing life-changing wisdom. It is one of a trusted friend -- kind, compassionate, and loving.

It's that kind of book -- the kind you will read once and again, rave about to your friends, and give as a gift. It is perfect for both individual use and for small and large group study.

It truly is phenomenal!

Beautiful warrior by Tina Yeager was a great book for me and I don’t feel that I struggle with this issue as much as some of my friends do. I am sharing a few of my takeaways and would highly recommend the book.

The author is very real and transparent and shares her own struggles. I enjoyed when she shared that Jesus calls many people by their name before they lived up to it. For example Gideon; mighty warrior and Abram; father of many.

Very good exercise in chapter 2 where you take 1 Corinthians 13 and think about each word and how it applies to you.

I recently learned that you cannot just stop a bad habit you have to replace it with a good habit. Tina mentions something similar with negative thought patterns. You don’t just stop negative thought patterns you need to replace it with a positive thought pattern; that is true.

Some of my favorite quotes that I highlighted and want to remember:
We first must identify Satan as the enemy and stop fighting against ourselves
I can’t offer people more than I believe I’ve got
I must accept myself. If I don’t I cannot bring a blessing to others
Insecurity leverages its most ferocious attack upon our purpose

Tina provides a great list of scriptures to keep handy when you need positive affirmations. She shares a forgiveness journey in chapter 9. And reminds us that forgiveness does not have to mean reconciliation.

Tina provided thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter to help you think through the chapter and how it impacts you. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I received this book from publisher and / or author and was not required to write a positive review.

A Firm Stand in a Battle We Can Win. An Encouraging Read.

You’re nobody. The author’s inner labelling of herself was a lie. A lie similar to ones we tell ourselves or lies others speak against us. Tina Yeager’s vulnerable truth-telling pulled me in from the introduction and never let go. Through her knowledge as a licensed counsellor, she learned how to face her denial of God’s identity for her, then turned around to teach us readers. What a tender, tenacious teacher.

In chapter one, she gives us an Extreme Makeover chart showing who falsely identified a dozen key Biblical figures, and how God redefined them. By chapter four, she introduces the No-Comparison Zone—how we get in trouble comparing ourselves to others. In chapter five, I broke down and began underlining: “Self-centeredness turns into abuse of power” (p.55).

In the sixth chapter, I underlined: “…the best of us remain vulnerable to the fickle nature of society’s approval” (p.63). This may be my favorite chapter. For eight glorious pages, Tina tells us who God says I am. “I am a life-giving stream of God’s Spirit” (p. 67) is my favorite.

The book’s second half helped me better understand my struggles with how society tries to devalue and label women. Yeager helped me understand how “bitterness contaminates how we treat others” (p. 105). She makes clear how victim mentality evolves, shows how to move from victim to victorious with God’s help, and where to find our true worth when we’re objectified and demeaned by our culture.

A beautiful warrior knows how to “rock the divine look” (p. 134) and link her authentic coat of arms to her “vital source of strength” (p. 149). This book encouraged me to stand firm in my boots and spiritual armor. I’m reminded of a Queen song with a twist: She will, she will ROCK you!

This book reveals the lies we believe-some of which we are totally unaware. It points us towards the truth and tells us WHY connection is important with concrete examples, statistics and a SOLID PLAN (of attack) to get back on track and connected with GOD and others. I want to keep this book out to remind me to stop hiding and waiting for the perfect moment to look good enough to fufill God’s purpose. It starts now. Some of my favorite quotes: ‘The World has never been more connected. Nor has it ever been lonelier.” “Regardless of our wiring,we are designed for relationship.”
“Anchoring our relational identity in our relationship with Jesus untangles the distortions born in loneliness. Faith retires our connections to God, self and others as a sustaining system of love. God loves us first. To the extent we receive His love, we can love ourselves, love God, and love others. Our hearts are not limited to what we can produce or what others can provide.”
“A child of God lays down her needs at the Father’s feet. She expects her Father to provide and sets out on a mission to pour out her heart. A life of faith means we donate our cause, our vision, outward instead of seeking fulfillment. The more we turn our meaning toward service, the less empty we feel. It its the irony and the miracle of the jar of endless oil.”

Even if you don’t suffer from poor self-esteem ...

This book is a must for any woman in the modern world where we are assaulted with perfected images of what most of us will never be. What we can never be. Tina gently reminds us how wonderfully we are made and how we can refocus our gaze.

I am standing a little taller in my 5’2” frame.

Beautiful Warrior is a great quiet time resource, even if you think you don’t suffer from low self-esteem. Tina Yeagaer helped me see that even though I don’t suffer from classic poor self-image, I am still not where I could be. I don’t talk myself down, but I do compare myself to others. Call it a competitive nature or just not complete satisfaction with the way I see myself.

I was looking for a new book to use during my morning quiet time with God. Though each chapter is more than a quick 15-minute bite size portion, I just broke it down as needed, which actually helped to chew on this during the day.

Tina’s love for God and God’s love for Tina shines through in this wonderful book.

It is like Tina Yeager has known me my entire life. All the verbal and emotional abuse I went through growing up. She covered it all. What I tried to do on my own, she walked me through the needed healing. Thanks, Tina.

This book would be an amazing resource for any woman. For themselves to look a little deeper at things they may be ignoring or for women's groups and even teenage girls. It's easy to read and understand, but it invites you through the questions to dig deep and make the message meaningful.

This is a beautifully well- written book with scriptural references to aid in self-esteem and finding ones true identity in relationship with God rather than in the world. This would be great for a women's Bible Study group.
