Era un classic que m'havia de llegir, però ves, sin más... La reflexió està guay anyway
Have you ever wished to be someone else? Have you ever looked at someone you know and thought, 'He does what he wants. Why shouldn't I do what I want?' And have you then thought that if you looked like someone else, only for one day, you would be free to do anything you wanted? And nobody could blame you for it. Nobody would ever know that it was you, because it wasn't you! How exciting to change into someone else! Just for a day, or perhaps from time to time, not too often. Because if you changed into that other person often, then you might become that other person - and you might find it difficult to be yourself again.

The plot's interesting but to me it's a little simple, maybe because it's a story that loses potential when it becomes an adaptation. Anyway, what I enjoyed the most was the background of the whole story, the philosophical reflection about the good and the evil and the symbolism of the characters.

A great book on a timeless topic. In the line of "two souls dwell, ah, in my breast". Or worse: the light and the dark sides of a person's personality. The story as such is ingenious, full of enigmas, symbols and metaphors and only at the end of the booklet do we get the answers to all the amassed questions that the plot generates. The publication by author Rosemary Border is a light version of the original fiction by Robert Louis Stevenson, the latter being obviously even more elaborate and interesting to read. This version of some 80 pages is meant for student of the English language, it is also containing a couple of exercises which are actually very helpful.
A book with a great value, not the real work of Stevenson but a newly recounted version. Even appropriate for readers who want to know the plot via a fast read. For some, it may invite reading the full and complete integral story as published by world-famous author Robert L Stevenson.

Cieszę się, że mogłam zapoznać się z tak kultową książką, aczkolwiek nie wiem czy jestem jej fanką🤷🏻♀️ Historia ma swój klimat i ciut głębsze znaczenie, ale można powiedzieć, że trochę się na niej nudziłam.. Być może kiedyś przeczytam ją też po polsku, ale na ten moment nie jestem do tego przekonana

Chúng ta thấy tồi tệ cho con vật khi ta ăn nó nhưng chúng ta lại muốn ăn và cảm thấy ngon miệng từ món ăn đó. Vậy chúng ta là thiện hay ác?
Chúng ta thích chó và mèo nhưng lại đối xử với các loài động vật khác như là món ăn. Vậy là thiện hay ác?
Chúng ta thích một số người nhưng ghét một số người khác. Như thế là thiện hay ác?
Cuốn sách đầu tiên tôi đọc về ý tưởng hai mặt thiện ác bên trong con người là “Tử tước chẻ đôi” Của Italo Calvino. Lúc đó tôi cảm thấy hơi thất vọng với quyển sách này vì tôi tôi không hứng thứ với câu chuyện về hai mặt của thiện ác sống đồng thời với nhau, tranh cãi với nhau nên đã dừng đọc. Tôi lúc đó (và cũng trong hiện tại) thích cái ý tưởng Thiện và Ác thay phiên nhau xuất hiện trong cùng một thể xác hơn. Tức là “thiện” sẽ xuất hiện vào một thời điểm và “ác” sẽ xuất hiện vào một thời điểm hoặc hoàn cảnh khác. Và câu chuyện về Dr.Jekyll và Mr.Hyde chính là câu chuyện mà tôi tìm kiếm. Đọc xong rồi tôi vẫn thấy vô cùng phấn khích và không ngừng suy nghĩ về câu chuyện, và một lần nữa đây chỉ mới là bản tóm lược câu chuyện thôi (ít thời gian nên hẹn bản gốc vào một ngày không xa *hic*)
Tôi thích bởi vì Dr.Jekyll giống tôi. Trong tôi luôn có vẻ có 2 tính cách luân phiên nhau điều khiển. Có rất nhiều mâu thuẫn, chẳng hạn tôi có lúc có thể rất yêu thương và đạo đức, nhưng có những khi lại rất thích lối sống phóng túng và ích kỉ, theo riêng mình hơn. Những cảm xúc tôi có được hệt như những gì Dr. Jekyll diễn tả trong lá thư ở chương cuối quyển sách nhỏ này. Ông cảm thấy cơ thể mình không còn đủ cho cả hai sự thiện ác sống chung nữa. Trường hợp của Jekyll có thể hiểu như là một dạng của là hiện tượng “đa nhân cách” trong con người (dù định nghĩa này rộng hơn là chỉ hai mặt thiện ác). Đó là khi định kiến của xã hội và chính sự sợ hãi của chúng ta trước những định kiến này, đã làm chúng ta che giấu đi một phần tính cách của con người mình mà chúng ta nghĩ là không tốt. Đó là một cội nguồn phát sinh ra cái ác, dù là lúc này nó chưa phải là cái ác. Cái mà ông sợ, cái mà tôi sợ, cái mà bạn sẽ sợ, đó chính là người khác sẽ ghét Hyde, và Hyde một khi đã quá lớn, nó sẽ kiểm soát và lấn át lại chính chúng ta. Và khi cái ác đã làm chủ được, thế giới sẽ lại có một kẻ ác mới và một tấn bi kịch mới. Đây cũng là một lí giải tại sao có những kẻ hiền lương biến thành tội phạm chỉ sau một ngày.
Vì vậy hãy tập làm chủ Hyde, làm chủ cái ác của mình. Ta không thể làm chủ nó bằng cách lãng tránh và kiềm nén nó. Vì nó cũng giống như một đứa trẻ, đầy sức sống và hoang dại, không thể bắt ép nó theo những khuôn khổ. Cách kể chuyện theo phong cách trinh thám và bí ẩn của Robert Louis Stevenson có lẽ cũng là điểm hay cho truyện. Cảm giác vừa đọc truyện vừa thử lí giải những tình tiết của truyện rất là thú vị. Và hầu hết các gút mắc và sự ẩn dụ trong truyện sẽ được làm rõ trong chương cuối. Tổng thể, với những ai yêu thích thể loại trinh thám, bí ẩn, và cả thể loại tâm lý-tội phạm, đây là một cuốn sách cực-kì-nên được đọc. Về bản tóm lược câu chuyện, thực sự thì vẫn giữ được nhiều chi tiết đủ để làm tôi lôi cuốn và hồi hộp, nhiều khi tôi nghĩ là cắt bớt những tình tiết so với nguyên bản còn làm tôi tò mò hơn. Nếu bạn cũng đang cần học tiếng Anh thì tôi rất khuyến khích đọc bản tóm lược này.

I borrowed this book from the library, thinking it was the original story... turns out it's a retelling for English beginners... therefore it was written in such a simple English that I was a little annoyed sometimes cause I had looked forward to reading the original classic... but at least I know the rough gist of the story now, gonna have to read the original text one day though...

Simple fun story quoted from the original classic one. I have read this story as it would helps to boost my language proficiency but unfortunately doesn't'.

This is an interesting book. I started to read it without expectations but it turned out to be better than I anticipated. Sadly, this is not the original, but an adaptation of it, so I may be missing some things the original had.
It´s a good read that won´t take you very long, but it´s still enjoyable.
I recommend it for anyone who likes mysteries that aren´t dense.

Mr Jekyll 's idea became true in the story. I wonder if it can be true in real life? If it does, can people control "Mr Hyde" and have a perfect life with 2 different character?

I'm glad to have finally read it, even if I already knew the famous twist. This adaptation, however, was shallow and seemed overly simplified.

Meh… Fue medio raro . Como que no tenía sentido en mi opinión, e hizo bastante tedioso el libro en algunas partes. Le doy 3 estrellas porque lo escuché en audiolibro y el Hyde me daba mucha risa :D

The strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde explores two major themes: the predominance of evil in the human nature, and the newfound dangers of scientific power and discovery in the age of the scientific revolution. This case is narrated and investigated by Dr. Jekyll’s good friend and lawyer, Mr. Utterson. Dr. Jekyll is a well-known and respected gentleman, but falls into some disrepute when he is found to be friends with Mr. Hyde, a cruel man known for evil deeds and an utterly evil appearance. When Mr. Hyde commits a senseless murder, and disappears into the night, Dr. Jekyll behaves normally for sometime, but then locks himself away in his lab and refuses to see anyone. When his servants discover that his voice and behavior seem totally changed from through the door, they assume that Mr. Hyde has somehow murdered Dr. Jekyll, and they urge Mr. Utterson to intervene. Upon knocking down the door, Utterson discovers the poisoned body of Hyde and still has no clue to the whereabouts of Jekyll. In letters, Dr. Jekyll reveals that Mr. Hyde was a scientific extraction of the evil side of his own soul. He indulged this side until it grew so powerful that it overtook him without command and ran wild committing crimes without remorse. Eventually he had to lock himself away, and Mr. Hyde was the end of Dr. Jekyll. The unreined evil in Mr. Hyde represents the evil in all human beings, capable of complete destruction if unchecked.
