The KGB thought that there wouldn't be any blow-back after sending a Directorate S agent into Israel to use El Al airlines to detonate a nuclear weapon in New York City.
They were wrong.
Saul Greenbaum is dead, Marin Sutcliffe and Jacob Mitzak have returned to New York and The Box has been decommissioned.
Will Hessler is now alone, out on his own and heading to Moscow to deliver a message to Colonel Sokolov and anyone else who had a hand in an operation that nearly killed thousands.
Jordan Vezina is a writer of historical fiction living in Palo Alto California. In a past life Jordan was an infantry Marine serving in an anti/ counter-terror unit, a bodyguard, and a personal trainer. And a website designer. And a combatives teacher. And a corporate manager. And a singer and guitar player in a blues-metal band. And then an IT guy. And then blah blah blah I'm so cool. That's right. It's me writing this.
Aleks Rosen has many balls in the air. He is determined to keep Israel focused on internal defense and security, and out of more foreign matters- of course using his contacts that may well set Europe on fire once again, and eliminate those who have knowledge of his treasonous actions.
Will Hessler gets put into play and dropped from 30,000 feet via a HALO insertion into Omsk. Taking out Makalov is the plan. Or at least that is what he is told.
Rosen needs Makalov removed since he is privy to his status as a cohort of Directorate S, working with the Soviets. Rosen has seen to the slaughter of many of his people in order to further his own cause as well as to further Soviet interests. As Hessler points out, the 132 civilians on board the airliner from El Al were not combatants and they were forced to die to prevent the Soviet bomb from entering US airspace in an Israeli jet. Innocents. Deaths for the greater good of the nation according to Aleks Rosen.
Nadir Fox, Betz and Abner Kline also make somewhat intense and surprising appearances at various points as they all attempt to save the world from the madness.
Awesomely written action and dialogue with solid historical background and reference points.
I have read most of the books in this and related series. I either bought them in Kindle or borrowed them from KU. I also received an advanced copy of this book from Booksprout.
I have gotten really hooked on the unique combinations of action, history, and good character and plot development.
This book ends the Jericho Black story and sets the stage for the Will Hessler story to follow. A lot happens here in a fairly short time so the reader needs to pay attention. The action is almost non-stop though, so the reader's attention is kept focused to the end. I have grown to like these characters, flawed though they may be. They came of age during one of the most horrific periods in history and what they had to do in order to survive forged what they have become in this series. What I found especially interesting in this book and the earlier ones is the author's description of the political power playing that occurred between rival nations. Powers that were sworn enemies were working underground for objectives that did not always appear to be in the best interest of any one of them. The Moscow Protocol is a top notch thriller and shouldn't be missed.

According to the author, rhis book concludes the Jericho Black series, but directly launches the Will Hessler saga. I found it to be a fitting end to the Jericho arc that began way back in Among Wolves. It's interesting to see how Will has been grappling with his mental health challenges and has grown as a protagonist. I'm interested to see where he goes in his next adventure.
Espionage, twists, and action sequences are littered through the book, as we have come to expect from this series. The book had a strong Cold War Red Scare feel. I know we learned about a main character's deception in the previous book, but it reminded me of Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford) from Captain America The Winter Soldier. Hail Hydra!
As I've said in previous Jericho Black reviews, you really need to read them in order to understand and appreciate the books. Now that the series is complete, now is as good time as ever to start! I definitely recommend them all.
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
A fitting conclusion to Jericho Black. Will Hessler became the super agent for which he was destined; an avenger with an ability to sort out the good and bad and then taking action. I'm glad the Will Hessler story is continuing in a different setting which I expect will have more Israeli tie-ins to his continued fight for justice but now inside the CIA framework.
An explosive thriller! I have not read the other Jericho Black books but now I will need to go back and do so. The characters are so intriguing and the non-stop action takes you on a whirlwind ride. The political machinations make you wonder just what the countries were really trying to do. Lots of twists and turns make for an exciting page-turner!

Sometimes the lines are never clearly cut. Vendettas are rather vengeance never goes away.Who was initially hunted as A traitor to Israel isn't . The director of Mossad is. The Germans will pay for the holocaust. It's all in place. Only two people can stop this from occurring. Jericho Black and Nadir the analyst, former Israeli special forced, who everyone thought was the traitor. Nonstop action. This is an excellent read!
I love everything about this series and just live for the next installment! I devour each book as it comes out - I cannot get enough! It is not too late to pick up and start reading. Each book is better than the previous! Great characters and a touch of reality. Love it!
