Packed with simple tips and tricks, this is everything you need to know about household cleaning.
Is your busy life conquering your home? Do you find the household chores getting on top of you?
Lynsey Queen of Clean, Instagrammer, businesswoman and busy mum of three, has done all of the work so you don’t have to. Featuring her make-at-home cleaning products, easy step-by-step guides and all her recommendations for toxic-free and eco-friendly products, this book is the ultimate guide to keeping on top of your house, and having fun while you do it.
Lynsey shares her daily and seasonal routines, motivating and encouraging you along the way with so that you are left with the will, and the skill, to take on even the most seemingly insurmountable tasks and end up with a clean, calm and happy home.
In my view this book isn’t a run-out and must buy, and neither do I recommend that anyone rushes out to buy this book as a Christmas present. I have to say that there really isn’t much I don’t know about house cleaning and I expect you know everything about house cleaning too. I’ve always known you can use things like white wine vinegar etc.
The only thing that Lynsey brings to the book is her cleaning is her homemade products of white wine vinger that is a degreaser and mild disinfectant. Bicarbonate of soda that is a natural mild abrasive and deodoriser and a few other things for cleaning certain things around the house. That is technically a well known to use these if you require too.
This all very well using homemade cleaning products, but I much prefer to use bought cleaning product. Lynsey also lists, cleaning products to buy, which I didn’t really see the point in doing as every woman on the planet knows what bought cleaning products you need or can buy, I don’t think we need to be told in the book.
Then there is another list explaining you need rubber gloves and a toothbrush which I use anyway . Why say we need rubber gloves when it’s common knowledge to use rubber gloves. I personally use a toothbrush for cleaning round taps, and in gaps behind radiator pipes.
Now don’t laugh but Lynsey also lists Additional Must-have tools, and guess what? It’s a Hoover and mop and bucket. Well I certainly have a hover and mop and bucket and I’m sure you all have too. I think that’s a bit silly to add that in the book.
As for stubborn stains I’m quite sure all anyone has to do is look on the Internet and you will most likely find your answer.
There is a section on Making a Christmas to do list, preparing for visiting guest into your home, now I’ve been preparing all my Christmas lists for so many years Im sorry but I don’t feel the need to be told in a book to buy presents, write Christmas cards, and to put up decorations and tree. And of course if you are lucky to have a guest room for family or friends, I don’t think you need to be reminded in a book to prepare the room and to do extra baking of mince pies.
I’m very disappointed with this book edition as I learned absolutely nothing new.
2.5 ⭐️ Unfortunately I learned maybe 3 or 4 things from this book, primarily because I feel I’m pretty much on top of cleaning. The author is positively obsessed with it and has turned it into her calling. I’m not convinced this is tremendously healthy.
Despite me knowing most of these stuff - the book is good especially if you are a novice. However, how many inexperienced people would actually pick up this book and isn’t it more likely that the people who do would already be into clean and tidy homes?
I personally don’t have to do that much of daily or weekly cleaning but I definitely use it as an excuse to get lost in a good audiobook or podcast for some time.
My goal has always been to simplify as much as possible and reduce how much I need to clean or do in general. Primarily, I try to do this by constantly putting stuff away after my partner takes them out 😂
I don’t like the smell of vinegar (apart from using in the kettle) or bicarbonate of soda, so I stick with several shop bought cleaning supplies that have reduced the cleaning time substantially.
To save you time as well, this is my list after trying hundreds of products over the years (and whilst working as a housekeeper in a hotel in my uni days):
• Bar Keepers Friend powder - cleans everything FAST including sinks, toilets, grout, stainless steel and coffee stained mugs. You just need a toothbrush or sponge. • Koh spray and cleaning set - eco friendly and in combination with the diamond sponges it cleans amazingly well both the oven AND the shower cabin doors & bathroom. • Eco friendly multi purpose cleaner - I’ve got one of those you get as a little tablet and you dissolve in a glass spray bottle. Lasts ages and is perfect for light wiping of the kitchen counter and dining table. • Pledge fluffy dusters - I dust the whole house in 10mins. Love these! • Bleach - staple for the toilets. • Mr Muscle drain foamer - drains become as new as when they were installed. Seriously impressed and stocking up religiously. The good thing is you don’t need to do it that often. • Dettol cleaning wipes - for general tidying up and cleaning light switches, door handles and after cooking.
I enjoyed this book but couldn’t help feeling it’s aimed at complete beginners or maybe brand new homeowners who’ve literally never cleaned anything. Would probably be better being called ‘An Idiots Guide’. Even the layout of the book is poor, way too many spaces almost child like. I’m a huge fan of Lynsey on Instagram and her blog, I bought this book out of loyalty. But I have to be honest and say I was disappointed.
Really loved this book. Its not really a story as such, but it is a handy guide to cleaning with so many tips, trick and hacks. And who knew you could do so much with Lemon, Bicarb and Vinegar! Ill be keeping this book and no doubt referring back to it.
This was a good book but not in the form of an audiobook. Readers will want the physical book in order to take notes and jot down all the natural cleaning recipes and ideas.
Listened to this on audio, and the author has a delightful accent. I figured this would be a relevant and useful listen during these times. I learned that vinegar and baking soda have far too many uses to count, and I’ve already done two of the jobs she outlined in her book. Super in depth, and feeds your inner-OCD cleaning goddess.
I enjoyed reading it, found it motivated me to start, finish and am hoping to also maintain everything going forward - using the daily, weekly and monthly tasks. Good common sense advice on products also. Love how lynsey shows how use the same products (whether commercial or homemade) for multiple tasks.
An ok read… I think I was hoping more for a general read about fitting in cleaning to a busy day. I am definitely not going to be trying to clean my oven after every use… some great tips for cleaning specific items though.
Step-by-step, practical cleaning guide. It’s more like a manual and I appreciate that there wasn’t a lot of fluff. Basic cleaning tips and lists. Some may be common sense but if you don’t have a background in cleaning this would be a helpful tool.
I did not care for this book. It just seems to be a list of cleaning ingredients & tedious lists. I guess it is living up to its title, but I found it boring & certainly not inspiring.
A great book to help get your house back in order especially helpful after having another baby and wanting to save money using only a few products for the whole house 👌.
Great book full of cleaning tips and tricks from the queen of clean. She covers every spill, how to clean room by room, advice on cleaning with babies, children and teenagers and even an A-Z of cleaning. This book will 100% get you motivated to clean and get organised. Definitely one to read in full and then keep for reference later on. Who knew you could do so much with lemons?!
What a fantastic reference book! I thought I may find a takeaway or two but, no, it is every section. The author has directions and recipes for wonderful household cleaners using kitchen items and your favorite essential oils rather than toxic, dangerous chemicals. She even tells you how to make a small batch for a few days, a month, so the cleaners are still efficient and do not take a lot of space. There are calendar suggestions that are easily adaptable to a variety of lifestyles. Pets and children, teenagers and guests, are taken into consideration. What to do before moving into a new place and checking out of an old abode is discussed - I wish I had taken those steps twenty years ago as I am still dealing with nasty floors. Kids young and old need this book. Guess what mine are going to discover in their stockings.
I chose to listen to this book whilst doing a three-day thorough spring clean. It certainly made the time pass faster. However, of all the suggestions, perhaps maybe 3 at most I'd never heard of. Most were common sense things my mother taught me. The downside of listen for me was how grating it was to listen to the author totally butcher the English language. Her accent is delightful, but her pronunciation was appalling.
Cloth > Cloff Leather > Levvah Thoroughly > Furrahly Bother > Bovvah With > Wiv Together > Tahgevva Something > Sumfin Clothes > Cloves Bathroom > Barfroom Picture > Picha Both > Boat Whether > Wevva Through > Frew Another > Ahnuvva
And that's just the words I recall groaning about. Drove me bonkers in the end.
Firstly I read the actual book rather than listened to the audiobook but I can't find the version I want. And I am glad I did. It is a very useful book, full of practical advice and ideas for planning, charts etc that wouldn't be possible with an audiobook. I was surprised at the different ways to use general household stuff to clean with. It's on the kitchen shelf for reference purposes and gets used a lot.
I really liked it! Thanks to this book I found out about the tv show Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners. Although the structure of the programme is quite repetitive, I find it really motivating to clean my own house. I recommend reading this book instead of listening to the audiobook like I did because it's full of useful tips that you will want to take note of.
Wow! The Queen of clean hold our hand and show us step by step how to clean our house with normal cleaning products and/or home made, friendlier products and how to stay on top of the mess. Also includes step by step guide for spring cleaning, surviving the festive season and A-Z hacks of cleaning tips. Loved it and was really inspired. Highly recommended
