This the very funny, honest and poignant story of a woman who was a middle aged, over weight agoraphobic hypochondriac. She is filled with panic attacks and depression but who ultimately, and with no good reasoning, decides she wants to become an EMT. It’s an often hilarious and dread filled account of going through the process of becoming an EMT and the adventures afterwards as she became a solid member of the EMT family for over twenty years. Recommended.
I used to live in Jane Stern's town and saw her and Michael speak at the library. They are an engaging pair and made fun presentations about the Road Food experiences. I grabbed Jane's EMT memoir at a church sale. I have not kept up with here - last I heard they are split but continuing their work relationship. I love the fact of a 50-something, overweight woman putting herself out there to try something new and challenging, both physically and mentally! I've done that myself. The payoff can be very good. It's a short, fast read...a warm memoir of a piece of her life.
