Kent Dickerson is a Christian author, teacher, and lecturer. He is the author of Remade, a preacher finds victory over porn and complaint. He was trapped by regular pornography use for decades and could not stop. God put him on the path to real victory. This included lessons in becoming more relational with God and his brothers and focusing on the nature of God. In between ministries, Kent worked many years as a watchmaker, which included training in Switzerland. Eventually, God brought him back to full-time ministry. He has three seminars and continues to write. Kent has now lived almost eighteen years in the U.S. military community overseas in Germany and South Korea.
This book represents courage and hope. Kent realistically talks about his spiritual battles in life, the traps he fell into, how he was made a prisoner and captive to sins that he really wanted to be rid of. His sins cost him dearly in his relationships, his profession and his view of who he is.
And then is what he calls Part Two: The Path to Victory, Kent describes his journey to freedom, which involved hitting bottom, where he told the Lord that he could no longer put up with his failures, and he learned that, as the Bible says, sometimes victory only comes through repeated and heartfelt confessions and desires to be different - what he called "desperate prayers". Desperate prayers are those offered in faith like a little child, and where we realize we are completely unable to free ourselves, and we learn to totally rely on Jesus and the Holy Spirit to set us free. Kent's freedom is won, not in one big BAM, but in constant little victories that end up in freedom. I think this is very realistic and true for many people.
Kent also learned the value of friends, especially those who are trusted enough to confess to. Here's a quote from his book: "Life gets messy, brutal and hard sometimes. We desperately need friends to share through these times. We need a band of brothers. Without them, we might not survive." Kent learned that, as he said, he didn't need better techniques, he needed more of God. And that if he had learned more of who God is, he might have avoided many of his problems. When considering the beauty of nature, Kent heard the voice of God telling him that "This is beautiful because I am beautiful" and "This is but a dim reflection of my beauty."
Kent's journey to freedom is very compelling, and rings so true to me. He rightly states that we must confront lies with the truth - and that "God can remake anyone, no matter how deep they are in sin, no matter what sin." That is the hope we all share in Jesus.
While reading this book I began to find courage for my own battles in life. As Kent takes you on his bath to victory over the adversary, he takes time to ask you to reflect on your own struggles. While reading this I began to feel my own failures and the times I had to get back up. As reading his words I began to see way to fight and overcome my own faults and weaknesses in life. Kent did an amazing job in using his story to reach many who are struggling. If you need a way to come up with a Battle Plan in your struggles with temptation and sin, I urge you to pick up this book.
It has been my joy to be able to meet Kent and speak with him in person. The opportunity to pray, sing, discourse, and worship with my amazing Brother has been a delight. He is the same in person as the pages of this book. Only God knows the blessing of Brothers in unity.
Kent Dickerson found answers to overwhelming thoughts. Then God said something to Him that changed Kent's thinking about the Lord and Kent's relationship with Him. The result is intimacy with Christ and victory in his thought life. Find out what Kent discovered by reading his book.
As the author, I've read it many times. I was not sure it was ok to review my own work. But now that it has a new edit and is available as eBook, I decided I might as well.
