Sometimes when you try and do the right thing—it turns into disaster Living on an island, miles from the mainland, Mac Travis thought he could disappear. It was a simple life with no worries and fewer bills. Mac was content working his trap lines, fishing the seasons, and diving. That all ended when he and his mate found a turtle laden down with fifty kilos of pure cocaine floating in the Gulf Stream.
What seemed at the time to be a simple rescue, entangles him in a web of deceit and lies. From Marathon to Key West and on to the Dry Tortugas, Mac has no choice but to find a treasure that is better left alone.
Caught in a war between a father and son, Mac and his crew must weave their way through not only the dangerous waters of the Keys and the counter-culture of Key West, but a family history better left buried. Featuring the eccentric characters and locations of the Keys, the ninth novel in the Mac Travis Adventure Series, by best-selling author, Steven Becker is everything you’ve come to expect and more.
Mac.Travis.Adventure. Well, I mean, that really says it all, doesn't it? You know the devil-may-care Trufante will manage to drag everyone into the thick of things and that Mac and friends will be in their white hats (metaphorically speaking, of course--I cannot imagine a white chapeau withstanding the rigors of fishing) trying to save the day. Author Steven Becker has captured the knack of writing totally enjoyable stories that suck you into the moment like a whirlpool, toss you about like flotsam and jetsam bouncing on the waves, and leave you smiling at the end as you sail into smoother waters. Be aware that treasure is involved (also, white boots!) and I will shut up to avoid any spoilers.
Author Steven Becker is continuing to tie his historical Tides of Fortune series with his two curret day Mac Travis & Kurt Hunter series. Mac Travis rescues a distressed sea turtle towing bricks of cocaine, which leads him, along with Mel Woodson, Professor Ned, Trufante, & Pam back to the Dry Tortugas and the wreck of one of Lafitte’s pirate ships, originally located when Kurt Hunter’s wife & daughter were kidnapped. In true Trufante style, vicious “smug druglers” force Mac, et al to split the unmarked solid gold bars, in order to save their lives. Truly high adventures in the Gulf of Mexico
I could not, put this book down!! Mac Travis and gang get involved in some scary business in Wood's Fury. Lots of action and more looking for gold! More pages of Van Doren's diary are found. More gold is located. Leading to confrontations with a father and son, who are also fighting between themselves and looking for the gold too.
I listened to this book and it was an okay story for being book #9 by the author. I haven’t read any of the others, though, to make a comparison. While the narrator was good while reading the narration sections, his character voices made me laugh. If one is into boats, this is a good listen. The story line is just so-so.
Dumb story from beginning to end. It transitioned from a drug smuggling story to a treasure story. Fisherman finds drugs floating in the sea tied to a sea turtle. A normal person would immediately call the coast guard or DEA and let the authorities handle it. In this story a lot of people get tangled up with drug smugglers and drug sellers. Just dumb.
I have been a Mac fan since the begining. But this book brings all of Mr. Becker's books in as both reference and notice. A good bit of writing. I think this is one book that you will enjoy and maybe take you the other books by him.
Again, hungry for more, I've read to the last page
As every book I've devoured by Steven Becker, Wood's Fury left me loath to put the story down. More excellent and beautifully pictorial writing!! Another great job! Thank you Steven
Steven Becker does it again. I have enjoyed all of his work. I am anxious to start the next book. What more might i say - this series is fun and entertaining and most importantly addictive.
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
Since Wood is no longer actually with us, it is up to his daughter Mel and the gang to show their fury. Thank goodness for coral and lionfish. I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.
Along the lines of Wayne stinnett, lots of surprising twists and turns in Macs adventure, keeps you interested, to see what comes up next, very enjoyable reading....
Steven writes a good story with a lot of plot twists, but that involves a lot of people and is sometimes, at least for this old fart, makes following the story difficult. But still a good read!!
