Journey "under the sea" with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney's The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney's Broadway production and the motion picture (featuring the enormously popular Academy Award-winning music and delightfully charming book and lyrics). Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories, Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.
In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home — and her fins — behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking.
Written to flow seamlessly between land and sea, Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. provides plenty of opportunities to bring these locations to life through creative movement and configurations. The fantasy of being underwater means your entire cast and crew can let their imaginations run wild.
This was such a fun script to read! I like how they added more details that didn't appear in the movie, like Ursula's motivation for wanting revenge, and solving exactly WHY Ariel would trade her voice away for legs--it made much more sense in this version! I just wish they could have included this stuff in the actual movie, too. Wonder if the live-action version will have these plot holes sorted out. This makes me want to get back into theatre.
Seven months ago, I had no idea what the little mermaid was about besides Ariel and a jamacian Crab. Now, April 29, 2023 I know the entire story bit by bit, able to recreate scenes in my head and on stage. This adaptation i prefer to the original movie actually, the music is amazing and the dialogue is pretty great.
I was King Triton and Chef Louis.
After watching Encanto and Mulan in 2021, my eyes were opened to the world of Disney. I watched Ratatouille, Lightyear, The Little Mermaid 1 and 3, Lilo and Stitch, Enchanted, and Disenchanted. (I would love an encanto or enchanted musical, and would love to play in one. I’d probably be camilo or Bruno, maybe Bruno because I’m awkward.)
One thing I still don’t understand is why does King triton say “somehow in the blink of an eye, when my back was turned you grew up.”
Also Blame my math teachers daughter for making me think I could be Sebastian and my friends little brother for being so cute that I’d feel bad if I didn’t join.
I made so many friends during the play. And some really good friends too.
