Hybrid Heat #6

Under His Enemy

Rate this book
When alpha shifter Orion accepts a mission that takes him behind enemy lines he expects to find hate. He never expects to find a mate.

Crow Brownstone's family has known much loss from the hands of shifters. It is that loss that compels Crow's father to create the Protectors of the Pure, an organization committed to protecting humans against shifters. Being a Protector comes with sacrifice. To be accepted, Crow lives in the closet, his true identity hidden from even his twin brother, Falcon. By now, Crow is used to it and he can always sneak out for a one-night stand.

Then, he meets the first man to ever make him doubt his one night only rule. Orion rocks Crow’s world, but he is just passing through. Or so he says. When Orion shows up as one of the newest recruits on the Protectors' compound the next morning, Crow should be terrified, instead, he's relieved that he doesn't have to say goodbye yet.

Only Orion would potentially ruin a mission, months in the making, by unwittingly sleeping with one of the Protectors' leaders. Orion is there to discover their latest weapon, but he can't seem to stop worrying about the last man in his bed. With his inner animal on hiatus, Orion is flying blind. He can’t sense Crow is his mate, until their relationship has already changed Crow’s life in ways neither expected. Orion can’t leave his mate behind, even if he must take Crow from the only life he’s ever known.

While Orion tries to convince his pack to accept his new mate, Crow’s brother, Falcon, powered by the Protectors of the Pure, will stop at nothing to take him back.

Under His Enemy is a full-length (70k) mpreg romance. It is the sixth book in the Hybrid Heat series. Though it would be enjoyed as a standalone, it would be better understood if read in order.

Orion and Crow are as opposite as any of our Hybrid couples. But fate can't be wrong when they put them together even though the situation that is set before them.

Kiki Burrelli doesn't disappoint with the storyline or the sexy times that our couple have. We also get to interact with all the other couples the she has entertained us with.

Orion and Crow meet in an unexpected way that puts each other in a predicament that causes each other to question what they are feeling even early on.

The story progresses at a fast pace that you don't wont want to put it down. I enjoyed this book and I hate to hear their is only one more book left for us to enjoy this world the Kiki Burrelli has created for us.

I sure didn’t see this one coming. Yeah, I know the blurb gives a bit of a hint of some things, but it was still a shock at how it turned out. I was not expecting this turn of events. But it was good. Sad and heartbreaking but good. Some good does come out of it, but the time with the Protectors is getting severe and it’s at all time bad.
Orion had been under cover for months, trying to infiltrate the main branch of the Protectors. But he needs to blow off some steam before he’s going to be stuck for months. When a beautiful blue eyed young man comes in and knocks Orion’s socks off. And that’s saying a lot, since he’s on blockers to hide his wolf hybrid. Once he infiltrates the Protectors, he gets more than he bargained for, when he realizes the man he had a passionate night with is one of the Protector leaders. But something is different about Crow. And he’s learning what it is, especially when some of the sadistic thugs of the group try the newest drug out and are happy with glee with the horrifying results of it. Orion knows he needs to do something and he does. And part of that is getting Crow out of there. But things in Hope are not happy happy with Crow there, especially when the past comes to the present and the reason behind the Protectors. And with it all the lies that have been told to Crow and so much more. But now with all the attacks going on, things are getting worse and many are dying. With betrayals now at the forefront, will Crow be one to die as well?
I felt bad for Crow. My heart literally broke for him. Any way he turned, he was screwed. After seeing what happened to his parents, and all the lies he’s been told over the years, to watching what these drugs and stuff are really doing to people. Plus learning that people under him are turning sadistic and have no respect for anyone really. It’s just been too much. And then to be thrust into the world he was taught to hate. How much is one person supposed to take? But then again, it was just as hard, for Orion. He was making a mess of everything. But the blockers were messing him up and he really didn’t know at first that Crow was his mate. He just knew he was the enemy. And had just thrust him in the middle of his kind, that all were scared of Crow or wanted to kill him. It was too much for both of them. The stress was getting to Crow so bad, he was becoming emaciated. It was just too much. And the Protectors were now playing dirty pool. This was just so hard. The one thing I was happy for though, was Orion was determined to keep trying to get Crow to be accepted. But this was something Crow had to prove on his own. He had to prove he could be trusted. And boy did he.
Everyone deserves a second chance if they are truly regretful. And once Crow started seeing the truth of things, he really was sorry. He never intended it to be the way it’s become. It was never his intention to harm anyone. He truly thought the cure was supposed to help. But when he saw what was going on, he wanted to make things right. He needed to. And that’s the sign of true regret and true strength. To know when to admit when you are wrong.

* I recieved an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. *

I will try and keep this spoiler free.

Kiki Burrelli is back with a new instalment of her Hybrid Heat series – Under His Enemy.
In this book we follow Orion and Crow and their transition from enemies to mates. Orion is a hybrid we met in earlier books (Wilder's BFF, grumpy hybrid who left Hope/Pineville in a fit of jealousy) and he's on an undercover mission during which he meets Crow. It was supposed to be a one night stand but..mates happen. Only it is not that simple since Crow is part of the Protectors of the Pure and hates/fears shifters...
In this book we finally get to know more about the notorious group of shifter haters, the Protectors of the Pure. We find out how they came to be, how they function and what's their new deadly weapon. The war between shifters and PoP gets even more serious and in the next instalment we'll find out the winner because that will be the last book in the series (Sibelius and Griffith at last).
Under His Enemy was an enjoyable and action packed book, but there is one thing thing that I did not like and that is Falcon's storyline.

This is an excellent Mpreg shifter romance which immediately draws you in and you will be totally captivated until the last page. The plot is well-written & suspenseful. The main characters struggle with family/loyalty issues and acceptance as they continue to develop throughout the story-line.
There is: various kinds of shifters, humans, a purist group “Protectors of the Pure”, a alpha shifter on a mission (Orion aka Rin aka Ryan), a human male omega & member of the purist group (Crow), his twin brother (Falcon), adventure, action, danger, threats, devious plans, violence, twists & turns, drama, family issues, fated mates, suspicions, memories, jealousy, deceit, sabotage, abduction, emotional turmoil, vulnerability, fear, complications, accusations, confrontations, physical conflict, guns blazing, paranoia, compromises, betrayal, acceptance, love & steamy scenes.
I really enjoyed reading this shifter romance and look forward to future books from this author & I definitely would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading this genre.

Under His Enemy is the sixth book in the Hybrid Heat Mpreg Romance series by Kiki Burrelli. It is an enemies to fsted mates, shifter mpreg, with hot sexy Alphas, strong and independent omegas, a dangerous organisation trying to bring down the beasts and the Shifters who are trying to bring that organization to justice.

Orion and Crow are great characters. And I love seeing all the previous couples we have met. The story had lots of great moments... drama, humor, sweetness, sexytimes and action. Everything we expect from the Hybrid Heat series. Definitely satisfying read.

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

Ugh. This book acts as if hating a person because they are a leader in a group that employs Nazi techniques is the same as hating someone because they are the same species as someone who killed a parent. No.

This could have worked had Crow redeemed himself prior to the romance. As it is, people hating him when he recruited and trained people who tortured, conducted medical experiments, exploited, and murdered their friends, family, and pack members is treated like racism and it's not. Crow is guilty of war crimes. This is the equivalent of saying racists and people who hate racists are the same thing. No.

Another great addition to this amazing shifter series!
The plot thickens and we learn more about the Protectors of the Pure, gaining an inside view. I really liked that out of all the shifters Orion is the one to fall for the enemy. Crow and Orion have a lot to overcome before they can enjoy being mated and all that that entails. The role Falcon, Crow’s twin brother, plays in how everything unfolds is by far the most unexpected part of the story. Very moving twist.
I love this series, getting closer to its conclusion is both exciting and a little bit sad.

I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reader's copy of this book.
Again, I wonder how authors can keep from crying while writing some of their own stories. This one had me tearing up a bit. I loved Orion, and, Crow. Crow had a big heart and pretty open mind once he was mated to Orion. There were precious moments in this story, along with intensity, danger, sadness, and sweetness. I truly enjoyed this exquisitely written book and I highly recommend it to readers who love shifters. =)

I just have to say wow. Kiki Burrelli does a remarkable job bringing a person that is heavily connected with the PoP and having him be likable and understandable. Orion and Crow meet for what both believe is just a one night until Orion is there for Crow's training at the PoP. As these two begun to grow closer, the outside world is going even more insane. Then, Orion has to make a hard choice.

This book will run your emotions through a ringer but it is well worth it.

This fantastic, powerful, poignant, bittersweet, engaging, sexy, and totally awesome tale had me hooked from beginning to end. Kiki Burrelli takes the enemies-to-lovers and fated mates tropes and turns them into a gripping, gritty, keep-you-biting-your-nails story guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat. In my opinion, this is one of the author's best books yet.

Orion is undercover in the Protectors of the Pure and the last thing he needs is to find his mate.
Crow is one of the leaders and he is keeping a secret.
Orion and Crow contact right away and when things go sideways Orion takes Crow with him.
Needless to say having Crow among the shifters isn’t easy and things heat up with the Protectors.

Orion and Crow were a match made in Heaven. They had a lot against their love but they persevered. There were a lot of intense and sad moments. It was heart wrenching at times but their love was epic and overcame every challenge.
