Vikram Rana series by Sharmishtha Shenoy is a HIT among the readers and those who have read her previous works wouldn't have missed grabbing this book as soon as it got released.
Sharmishtha has a unique way of describing her stories. It is lucid and does not deviate from the core story. Written in simple English, her stories can be grasped by anyone literally. No one, once picked up the book would stop before finishing it.
Fatal Fallout is a suspense crime thriller which would keep you guessing as to who the real culprit is. Actress Gauri, an upcoming artist gets murdered on a lonely road. Her valuables gets stolen. However, prior to her murder, she gets manhandled by her over possessive lover, Akash who also happened to be the son of a Minister.
Was Akash responsible for the murder since he comes under the radar of Vikram Rana when he starts investigating the case along with ACP Gopi Reddy.
On the other hand, Inspector Phani Kuma who was initially alerted about the case by constable Anil was also under the radar as he was known for his closeness to the Minister and was trying his best to get Akash away from the suspicion ring.
Gauri was also close to Director Madhav. He proposes to her during one of the film shoot. Was he responsible for her murder?
The story revolves around all these characters raising suspicion with each and everyone but the end was a real unexpected one.
Fatal Fallout is a murder suspense thriller. Detective Vikram Rana is investigating the death of a budding actress Gauri. Her lover is an abusive person named Akash. Akash is the son of a powerful politician. Vikram Rana and ACP Gopi Reddy goes in the search of Gauri's murderer. The plot is quite captivating and I kept guessing who the murderer would be. The climax indeed surprised me with a great twist. I think author has used a very clever twist to bring the element of suspense. I liked the character of Vikram Rana. He is not a super-human or super intelligent, but with his keen observation and stubbornness for the truth he manages to solve the case. All the characters are very well cut out. Only thing I would say could have improved is the dialogues. It seemed a little bit artificial to me. However, given this is of mystery / suspense thriller genre, it doesn't matter much. The book touches upon different themes like how society judges what a girl wears and how she lives her life, how violence would only result in more violence, how the external facades of people are so deceptive.
Fatal Fallout, the latest in the Vikram Rana murder mystery series solves the mystery behind the murder of upcoming actress Gauri, who is found dead in mysterious circumstances by the side of a highway. What seems like an obvious robbery & murder case turns intense when deep, dark secrets from Gauri's past are revealed, making each one of the characters in the story suspects in her murder, barring of course the dashing detective Vikram Rana himself.
The story is set in Hyderabad and Dubai (two of my favourite places in the world!) and takes us through not only the murder mystery but also the lives of all the characters and the detective himself. Fast paced, crisply edited and with enough twists and turns to keep the readers hooked, the reveals are subtle.
In fact, that's one of the pleasing things about Sharmishtha's writing - she almost coerces the reader to think & arrive at conclusions rather than shocking them with what seems to be the obvious but what cleverly hidden.
If you're looking for a brisk, exciting read as a break in your mundane everyday schedule, Vikram Rana is your man!
Fatal Fallout is my third read of the series. Needless to say, like the earlier ones, this one , too, was bang on. Author Sharmishtha Shenoy has a way with words and has an art of handling crime thrillers enticingly. The story begins with a rape followed by the murder happened on a highway and the victim is an upcoming actress Gauri. Many people are suspected to be behind it, an abusive boyfriend Akash, his hostile father, a lecherous co-star, a cop or an ex-husband. Police is trying to solve the case quickly as there is lot of pressure from Akash's influential father. Just then, detective Vikram Rana takes the case in his hands and then begins the tale of interesting twists and turns. The book is capable of keeping you on the edge of your seat. Trust me on this that till about last few pages it’s was almost difficult to say who the culprit is and that is what a thriller is expected to deliver. The characters are exquisitely woven and develop fairly with the story. This book is, indeed, a treat for crime thriller readers.
Thanks to author Sharmishtha for providing with a review copy in exchange of an honest review.
Set in Hyderabad and Dubai, this murder mystery is unputdownable. The prologue sets the tone of the story. A fast paced story, it kept me up till three in the night because I wanted to know who had done it. As soon as I would feel, now it is done, something in the form of an alibi or another suspect would come up and I would be left wondering again. The characters are well developed and Vikram Rana’s introduction at the beginning makes him familiar to the first time reader. I loved the friendship between Vikram and Gopi and also Vikram’s wife, Veena. The city of Hyderabad has been precisely described, which shows the author’s familiarity with the city. The language is simple and can be understood easily. The book has been edited well and the twists and turns ensured that I was not bored. It is definitely a must read.
Fatal Fallout is the 4th book in the Vikram Rana series. It is a compelling murder mystery that demands you to shake your brain to figure out who is the killer. The story is about an upcoming actress Gauri who got murdered few days before the completion of her movie. Madhav, a childhood friend the director of her movie feels that Gauri's abusive boyfriend, Akash is the killer. The truth unfolds when Vikram Rana, the detective along with ACP Gopi Reddy dig more to find the real culprit and motive behind the murder.
The language used in the book is simple. The story is intriguing and managed to point the needle of suspicion from one character to another.
When a new and upcoming actress is found murdered on a highway, people start to speculate. Was it a highway robbery gone badly or was it a murder. With a recent breakup with an abusive boyfriend, most fingers seem to be pointing at the ex. But there is something fishy about the director and the producer of the movie that Gauri was working on. With the media sniffing about and a corrupt cop on the scene, Vikram Rana has to work his magic fast.
Fatal Fallout is the fourth book in the Vikram Rana Mystery series and my first encounter with Vikram Rana, the detective. The book can be read as a standalone. With a short introduction to Vikram Rana being presented by the author at the very beginning, I felt that I knew a bit about Vikram already when I started reading this story. I liked the character of Vikram. He is in no way a flawless character and it is indeed his flaws that make him more human and affable to the readers. He has his own methods for working out a case which requires both brain and brawn. His previous experience as a police officer has given him much insight into not only the profession but also into the people in the profession. It is also a plus for him now that he runs his own agency. Read the full review on Bookish Indulgences with b00k r3vi3ws
This is a classic style of whodunit in which a young upcoming film star is murdered. Ex-police officer Vikram Rana works with his old colleagues to find out who killed her and why. Vikram is highly respected in his work life but his wife wraps him around her little finger. He never takes anything at face value. It’s a quick read. Even quicker than you think, as the story ends at 75% and is followed by excerpts from previous books. A good little read-in-a-day puzzle for mystery fans.
Crime thrillers have been always my favourite genre. When the author launched the 4th book under Vikram Rana series I was super excited to read the new book. Fatal Fallout is the story of a beautiful model and aspiring actress Gauri who was found dead on the highway from a gunshot wound. The language is simple and understanding. It kept me hooked till the end and did not bore me at all. It also shows how the society judges the girl for everything. The author managed to keep the twist alive and the climax impressed me. The characters were played well and every character impressed me.
My Opinion: I would recommend this book to everyone and it can be finished at one go.
How could Sharmishtha write such a trivia after a few superb storylines prior to this novel. A blood containing tube in the arms - what a bogus idea as if police doctors are nothing but fools. This novel is a great disappointment.
Book Title: Fatal Fallout: A Vikram Rana Mystery (Vikram Rana Series) Author: Sharmishtha Shenoy Format: Kindle Edition
Book Title: The title of the book is ‘Fatal Fallout: A Vikram Rana Mystery (Vikram Rana Series)’
Book Cover: The cover of the book is a digital painting of the murder scene on the highway where the body is drenched in blood. Also, a hand holding the gun is seen in the corner of the book. Surely, the cover page gives an idea of the storyline.
Plot: The dead body of the gorgeous and upcoming actress, Gauri is found on the high way. Several doubts and imaginations are made by the public and especially the media folks. Is it a robbery or a pre-planned murder? Too many people in her personal and professional life make the mystery more and more complicated. Who is involved in the life of an upcoming actress and knock down her bright career? Or is it a plain robbery? Who is involved in this mystery? Abusive boyfriend? Director? Producer?
Here comes the savior of the situation. Vikram Rana, the detective agent jumps into the crime scene and tries to straighten out the case. Will he succeed in this case and find the culprit? Who is involved in this dreadful incident?
What I like: 1. The plot of the story is good and the agent Vikram Rana’s introduction into the story made the plot look more interesting. 2. The mystery content like always is maintained with enough interest. 3. Not many times such mystery stories look extremely readable and at some point, they fail to sustain the flow, but Vikram Rana series never fails to keep the reader's delight up. What I didn’t like:
The book like always has an interesting mystery with ample twists that make a reader ignore ' if ' there are any drawbacks.
Narration: The narration is very well and it will grab your attention until you finish the book. It is so real that you can experience the feelings of the characters in the story. The narration of Vikram Rana’s journey is very well explained.
Language & Grammar: A clear language with neat and uncomplicated grammar is used in the book
My Final Verdict: A breathtaking murder mystery which keeps the reader to complete it in one go. The mystery behind the actress’s death will make this story interesting and leave you with a thrilling experience.

An intense story of Obsessive Love, Rejection, and the Fatal Downfall. ‘Fatal Fallout’ is the fourth book of the Vikram Rana series. In this book, Vikram Rana gets a new case where an Aspiring film actress Gauri is found dead on the highway. Her death was staged as the robbery gone wrong. Her boyfriend Akash son of a big politician is the prime suspect with the motive of a broken relationship. A film director Madhav hires Vikram Rana to get justice for Gauri, he too is in love with Gauri and wants to keep the needle of suspicion away from him. Where everyone from Gauri’s circle believes that Akash is the murderer. Akash being the son of the big politician gets the jail free card. The story messes up more with some corrupt officers are playing their loyal role to the money and power masters. A must-read on how Vikram Rana unveils the truth and finds the real killer to prove that justice prevails at any cost. And no one is above the law of the nation. Yet another master crafted story from Sharmistha Mam. This is the 4th book in the Vikaram Rana series and it doesn’t seem to have any similarities with the previous 3 books. Feels to me like Sharmistha mam has a Pandora box of extravagant crime thrillers in her mind which she pens so very well that you cannot help falling in love with Her flaw and descriptive characterizations, maestro words which are simple and impactful for the readers. Brilliant is her story making which holds up to the reader right from the starting of the book till the end. The time you start reading the stories holds you so close that you don’t wanna put them aside till the end. But once you end it you feel it got over so soon. Looking for and craving for more and more of Vikram Rana….
Well I've been acquainted with and closely followed this series since its inception. From that standpoint, I can safely say that the writing just keeps improving with every new novel and the series is well on its way to becoming quite a standout in the sea of detective fiction. With Fatal Fallout, the tale grips you right from the beginning and the yarns that have been spun, in true thriller style, take you down multiple paths of deduction before they are merged into an unexpected conclusion by the super sleuth. The familiar characters and the good old city of Hyderabad are all here, making followers of the series feel at home immediately. The simple, yet gripping narrative style which is the author's hallmark, attains a further level of polish and is a delight to read. Overall, I am excited about this series. More power to Vikram Rana, his friends, and above all, his creator.
The experience of reading Sharmishtha Shenoy's books, can be summed up in one line. 'You will never solve her mysteries'.
Fatal Fallout is yet another classic Vikram Rana mystery. There are only a few characters, yet it is impossible to guess the murderer. The characters have been sketched painstakingly. I had so much fun meeting and learning about them all. In summary, it was a wonderful mystery that kept me guessing the whole way through. You have to have to read this.
Having read the author's previous books. This book is of the same standard as the author's previous books, and doesn't dissappoint you .It is short and mystery is revealed well. The characters are similar to her previous books..A good short mystery thriller 😊
Fatal Fallout, a recent book by Sharmishtha Shenoy, brings back my favourite detective Vikram Rana back. This is the fourth book in the Vikram Rana series, and is as compelling as were the previous books. With a well-written plot, the book provides you an engaging murder mystery. As is generally the case with most of the murder mysteries, in this book too, the readers witness the murder at the start of the book without learning the identity of the perpetrator. The rest of the book then built around the process of detection, and the identity of the main culprit is revealed at the end.
Let us turn our focus into the plot. Gauri, an upcoming actress, gets murdered on a highway from a gunshot wound. Valuable jewelry that she was wearing at that time is also missing. Was it a simple robbery case that had gone wrong? Or, somebody planned this murder? There are a number of suspects who could have killed her. Among the prominent suspects is her boyfriend Akash, the film director Madhav, and the film producer Krishna Garu. A police constable who found the dead body of Gauri is also under suspicion. The detective Vikram Rana comes into the picture and tries to solve the case. The investigation of the case forms the rest of the book.
Any good murder mystery does not only provide the readers with a gripping tale but also seeks their involvement as they attempt to find out the murderer by themselves. For this, the writer needs to leave a good number of clues throughout the story. And, this is what the authoress has done in this book. Generally, to make murder mysteries more complicated and interesting, the authors increase the number of characters. While this ploy works in a number of cases, the book becomes a confusing mess most of the time. Thankfully, the number of characters in this book is low and all of these characters have been given enough space to express their individuality. Each of these characters is believable and has something to do with the central plot. All of these are key players in the novel. The main lead Vikram Rana, as usual, is likable. I also loved the chemistry between him and his wife.
The story is easy to read and follow from the beginning to end. The book has a well-paced plot. It is neither too slow nor too fast but is good enough to keep readers’ eyes glued to the pages. Almost all the necessary elements of a murder mystery (the set-up, the conflict, the action, and the resolution at the end) have been done satisfactorily. While there are plot twists, I would have liked some additional ones to flip the assumptions of readers around one more time.
One of my problems with the books featuring Vikram Rana is the length of these books. I found most of these books too small. I would like the authoress to invest more time and add more pages in the upcoming Vikram Rana books. Hopefully, she will listen to my plea and would do the needful. Do you love reading murder mysteries and looking for a good recommendation? Go for this, you will not get disappointed.
