FLIP: The Four Levels of Influencing People

Rate this book
Fans of Robert Cialdini, Dale Carnegie, and Jonah Berger will love this updated, science-based system for one of life's most crucial skills. If you want to move mountains, you must be able to move people - especially in the influencer economy. As you read, you'll discover the foolproof formula that you can use to influence powerful people, create persuasive presentations, pitch better, attract more prospects, launch a better business - and do it all authentically. This book is full of true stories of ordinary people using the formula to create influence in the most difficult of situations. Including... * How one ordinary citizen swayed an entire town to build a school they've been stubbornly rejecting for over fifty years. * A police officer who stopped a hijacking and saved hostages - with just ONE word. * How a dad got his kids to eat their vegetables. (Sounds similar to the hostage situation.) * A bumbling fool who somehow became the most influential person in the room - when the stakes were at their highest. * Why one FBI hostage negotiator absolutely insists on honesty when dealing with criminals. * The physical trainer who instantly gave his client superhuman strength...using unique and unconventional methods (and no drugs!) * How a dance instructor out-maneuvered his middle-school students' fear of cooties (or "lurgies" if you're British). * And a bunch more. "Destined to become a seminal work on the topic." - Jamie Turner, CEO of 60SecondMarketer.com “Tim David has written a practical, real world guide that will help you become more persuasive immediately.” – Dori Clark, author of Entrepreneurial You and Stand Out, and adjunct professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business "Influence is something everyone uses, especially salespeople. Tim David's perspective, sense of humor, and use of story makes this a great read - enjoy!" – Tiffani Bova, Global Growth & Innovation Evangelist, Salesforce "If you're looking to champion ideas, inspire others, and make your mark on the world, then you need to read this book. You'll emerge with a clear 4-step framework — and the confidence to give it a try." – Ron Friedman, Ph.D., author of The Best Place to The Art and Science of Creating an Extraordinary Workplace

First off, this was a very easy read. The language used & stories shared make for content I could find myself in rather than simply acknowledging that it happened to someone else in some time past. Additionally, the science behind each of his tiers help validate various points that feel right but may not make sense at first glance.

As for the concepts found here? Completely applicable. My three big takeaways were:
A) Influence is built over time, but starts with who I am.
B) Influence grows as relationships develop & it is important to recognize each interaction in that development.
C) The difference between influence & manipulation is a matter of intention.
