The text invigorates the new political history with a more inclusive vision of politics that captures the experience of all Americans. The text's narrative examines social, cultural, economic, and diplomatic history to ensure that all the important events and stories of American history are covered. The end-of chapter Competing Voices feature includes two primary sources, a headnote, and questions. Chapter-opening vignettes tell a story and introduce the key themes of each chapter.
