Bodyguard.

Protector.

Security Detail.

I wasn’t supposed to join the Marines and serve three tours. I’d been groomed to be another kind of warrior. Since I could walk, I’d been primed to take over the family business. Build the real estate empire bigger, ruthlessly fight my way to the top—make everyone richer.

Instead, I’d enlisted. Wanting to protect my country, not a bank account, I’d turned my back on the family business and given the Marines eight years. Now I was a bodyguard for the best personal security firm in the business, and life was perfectly uncomplicated…until an innocent redhead smiled at me and destroyed everything.

Now she was about to find out how ruthless a bodyguard could be.

This is one of those books where I would love to just gush all over the place about it but I know that isn't constructive. So, I'm gonna try to contain myself and just say that I loved it and why I loved it. #1 reason is Sawyer.

As a reader, I'm really into the alpha heroes, but not just any alpha will do. For lack of a better way to describe it, I like a man's man. The kind that are big, tough and scary but also very protective of woman. I like when they feel it's their job to take care of the women in their life.

This author does a really good job in this. Her heroes are former military men who still think as if they are in the military. They watch out for danger at all times, they are very protective of civilians, and they have this need to be in control. They are bossy and they are in charge.

What tips the scale over with these guys is the body language with the women. They open doors for their women. They buckle their seatbelts. They pull their chairs out for them. The focus that they put on the women in their life is very compelling. This is what you are going to get with Sawyer.

As for Genevieve, she's a bit of a mess. I loved this pairing because Sawyer is in so much control and then there is Genevieve who keeps dropping things and talks a mile a minute. She needs Sawyer in her life, badly!

This wouldn't be a bodyguard series if the heroine wasn't in danger so you get the suspense of Sawyer having to do everything he can to protect her. This also leads up to former heroes showing up as side characters. I love that. I always want to see more of my favorites and they are all my favorites!

We got introduced to two new bodyguards and I can not wait to get their story!

So good! I worried this storyline would move slow given the precursors in book 3. But it surprised me moving right along!!! Good storyline, it’s easy to fall into the same storyline with a series all about alpha, ex marines, but the author does a great job forming a totally unique storyline for each marine love match. The hints toward Talon and Ty’s stories have me pumped to continue enjoying the series

This started out pretty charming and with a tried and true trope I am ashamed to love: the big, strong, silent type falls for the madcap heroine (manic pixie dream girl) as long as the h isn't too cutesy.

The romance degenerated pretty quickly as the heroine's half-baked lies and wishy-washiness in the face of the very black and white, by the numbers hero started to pile up. Is she married or not? Did she ask for the divorce or did her worthless husband? Do I care? Not any more which is unfortunate as it had a promising start.

..... well i'm going to be that one who didn't like this for many reasons
the two main leads meets at an event on wich the M lead was guarding his client and the F lead organised that party they stay to clean ,they go to eat and then get robbed , the F lead end up in the hospital .
in this story the two of them were shit for different reasons :
-the M lead was a jerk he was all about go , sit , eat do don't aaah buddy that shit don't roll in here , this was meant to show his alpha vibes but he came out as rude and a jerk , apart of those orders he was very quit and here i'm going to stand with the F lead how the hell is she going to know anything when you keep your mouth shut . he need to upgrade his shit other then that he was an ok .
-the F lead now of course the list is way longer because the authers can't give us a normale lead they must portrait her in shity way :
- first she lied, he asked her net an clear if she was dating she said no , turns out he should have asked her if she was married ..... he know about that situation ( marriage )when she ask about him( the husband ) on their way to the hospital.
- aah and she is kind of judgmental cause he's rich and when he leave a good tip for the waitress she go like why ! he say she needs it , she goes like ooo so you look down on her and assume that she needs money and you toss the " money cause your a billionaire "...... shut the *** up it's his money he can do whatever the hell he want with it , did you hear the girl complain ??? no so why are you acting like he did a crime , it's her complex talking right there because she was poor in the past and now working hard , so what the rich ones they should be ass***** who treat people like shit just for you to feel better? and so you can blame them! .
- ahem yeah also while getting robbed she pulls of the mask of one attacker , she hit her head and deosn't really remember the face , but her papers are in the car so they now knows her , the M lead takes her to protect her . you know what i also hate when you are in deep shit and should be thankful that you have professional protection and do what they say so i don't know so you can stay alive ! nooo i need to act like an annoying person .
- she kiss him and he have a problem with that cause he asked her if she was with anyone and well she's married , true while they are not together ( the hubby) still legally they are and she refuse to sign the divorce papers .
- i don't get her the M lead also asked her why not signing the paper? , first she refuse to answer but then turns out if she do she lose his name ( the husand's name ) the one that brings her a big part of her clients .... short thing she use him.
- theeeen at the end still acting like an annoying teen she say its not about the name but because he wanted them to have a kid and she refused and wanted to adopt ( because of her past ) .
- A bas*** ! how dare he ask such a thing ! it's not a crime for the guy to want his own kid he was an ass cause he said he didn't want somone else problem but not all people can adopt even when they have money , that decision needs both partys and wanting his own don't make him bad .
- at first she said he was the one who asked for divorce and she didn't want to sign the papers ,then she say i was the one who asked for it but then why refuse signing then!! tell you the naammmee his name your not innocent like you would like to think , she was complaining about the husb and wanted to divorce but at the same time she wanted to still have all the privilege that comes with him that's why she dragged the divorce matter for years .
- also she act like the hubby was an ass but other then the hospital ( he did not come to see her one may think because they both had their own life now still it was not a nice act ) and one other scene there was nothing that makes me understand her feelings for him yes he's an ass but the strong hate please do explain better , and she goes like i'm done with the BS.... where is it show me don't just tell me in one word BS and expect me to go bs bs tell me about it .
there was no building for the " love " just bunch of a not so good action and then ooo i love him and i feel like i should tell you that she get mad at the M lead ( after he reject her cause you know she is married and he don't want to be like his cheating father but also the jerk can't let her go ) anyway she go with an other buddy of his almost the whole story so yes how again the looovve grow up .
so yes i didn't like it

The author's writing style does so much for her stories! I can't put my finger on what it is but it has a way of sucking me into a story and making it so enjoyable!

We met Genevieve in the Reckless novel and I was intrigued by her. She's very clumsy and rambles when she gets nervous (which is all the time). She's rather anxious because she seems to be grasping for control in most aspects of her life. I liked how when her temper would arise she would call out Sawyer on his BS. Though she should win a prize because her clumsiness and lack of luck got her into so much trouble, it's unreal!

Sawyer, on the other hand, is her opposite in most ways. He's stoic, needs control to function and doesn't like talking all that much, but he did have a sweet side that would come out here and there. Being very anxious myself I don't see how his controlling nature would help/do anything for her. They have a weird dynamic love-wise that shouldn't go together but it does anyway.

I gave up mentioning this a few books ago with this author but I liked that the hero was finally responsible enough to bring up protection and the pill. Even though the discussion was rapid-fire at best there was at least a mention of it.

This was one of the more action-packed novels in this series and I enjoyed it a lot! Sybil is getting better and better with every book she writes and I can't wait to see where she goes from here.

My Favorite Quotes:

"We get what we deserve. Remember that."

"She'd waged and won. Still standing, no training, no military support at her back, no family, no money, she'd navigated her own war zone and come out alive."

"Every second around you is a precipice I don't know how to navigate."

I voluntarily read an advanced copy on behalf of the author and this is my review.

I. Fucking. Loved. This.

Sawyer and Guneiveve are everything. I haven't even had this book for 24 hours and I'm already desperate for the next one. I love this world, I love how characters from The Uncompromising series always be popping up like "Sup bro, remember me?" Every mention of Andre (dreamy sigh) and Talon made my fangirl heart squeal.

Sybil really knows how to write dominant alphas. She's the queen.

Doing this review after the fact (I read it while on holiday so didn't do the review at the time). Details are sketchy, I just remember I was disappointed with this after loving the previous book. I think the hero was inconsistent at times, and I never really understood why the heroine kept lying to him about certain things. It passed the time easily on a beach, but is pretty much forgotten now.

Be still my heart!
This book is so much more than you can expect from a love story between a bodyguard and a redhead woman that i just love together and to say that i don't know who to choose as my favourite from these books and characters it's the hardest thing to do really.
The story carries on from the previous book when we met Genevieve as Calandra's personal assistant and Sawyer is one of the Luna and Associates security firm.
As always, the author has created a story where the former military men are in charge always and taking care of the woman in their life as well of the people around them is their to go every day in every situation.
When a dinner invitation goes wrong and unexpected situation comes up, almost everyone is there to help and protect, like a big family that will always protect and help.
Sawyer is swoony, he's s much of alpha as he is attentive and protector of the woman who messed his world with just a smile. He loves what he does and what he becomes and hates his inheritance.
Genevieve had a hard life and when she is in front of him, she's messy and never stops talking. But she is also strong and goes toe to toe with him for what she wants and what she believes
I loved that we get to see more of the other characters that are always there and my God, Talon made me laugh so hard that i will reread for the 5th time his book for sure.
There are some new faces, new characters that hopefully will have their books as well in the future because OMG that Preston guy !!! And Trigger !!!!
A story full of action, suspense, lust and love, exactly what you need and want from a great book.

If you love reading romance with larger than life, dominant Alphas, Sybil Bartel is the writer for you. Her newest book, Ruthless does not disappoint. Sawyer is everything you would probably list in the definition of Alpha: Ex-Marine, Bodyguard, Dominant, Strong, Controlled, Handsome, Billionaire. Sawyer makes a swoon worthy lead you want to cuss at and fall in love with. Genevieve, the female lead, is Sawyer's complete opposite, but somehow through an interesting and entertaining storyline, she fits. This is a quick, steamy, action packed, fun read. 5 stars!

5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ heart-pounding stars for Ruthless

Another 5-star read from Sybil Bartel, who knew?

Is it hot in here?
Am I the only one sweating ?
Or have I spent too much time staring at the cover photo?
*cue drool*

Sybil Bartel has once again ruined all other alpha-male characters for me. I have a love-hate relationship when she releases a new novel. Why? Because after finishing each new novel, it leaves a hole in my heart so big and I can only fit so many book boyfriends in there at once (Tank, Dane, Neil... I didn't forgot about you guys for Sawyer, don't worry hang tight boys).

I often catch myself trying to indulge in other novels that advertise a leading male character that is a supposed "alpha" while waiting for Sybil to release her new novels, and they just don't cut it for me. I used to think I knew what it meant to be an alpha, what it took for a male lead to empower alpha characteristics.

I was dead. fucking. wrong.

It turns out I never knew alpha until I crossed over to the ex-marine side, aka Sybil suckered me into her novels and I can't read another alpha without screaming "WHY AREN'T YOU SYBIL'S MEN".Ugh. Seriously, it's a problem.

Once again, as I've said in other reviews of Sybil's novels, I can't give much of a factual, and textual review or else I'll freaking spoil it. The description of the story is honestly all you need to dive right in. If I started summarizing and analyzing everything that goes on in her novels, ESPECIALLY her bodyguard novels then it's pointless in reading because the suspense Sybil builds around romance, danger and salivating heroes is literally heart pounding.

"Ruthless" is a different approach than her other novels. We haven't come in contact with a billionaire bodyguard yet, and now that we have I can't part with him. I need Sawyer, I want Sawyer. He is the epitome of alpha -- all in the way he speaks to our female lead character Genevieve and how he acts/protects her. I like how Sybil took Sawyer's wealth and billionaire status and didn't have him waving a big green money flag that screams I'm rich. Bartel takes a otherwise boring cliche concept and turns it into a heart-pounding, drool-worthy novel. Let me tell you, when I was done with this novel there wasn't a dry eye - or article of clothing - in the house.

Looking for something to read that won't have you throwing the book against the room and cursing the author? Sybil is your girl. Every time I write one of these reviews, I can never find the right words as to how riveting and exciting each novel is. It's not just about the romance here, it's about how Sybil develops each one of her characters consistently and continually so you're always screaming MORE MORE MORE! (In more ways than one, trust me on this one).

How do I even write this review without sounding like I am complaining or that I didn't like this book? Let me start by saying I haven't read one book by Sybil that I didn't like or didn't give a 5 star rating. I don't give 5 star ratings out lightly either. This book absolutely had all of the special ingredients that only Sybil can deliver. Sawyer was totally alpha, Genevieve was a spunky heroine that pulled on my heartstrings, Luna and company were at it again, having Sawyer's back while giving us fans glimpses of those familiar past alphas we so love.

But have you ever been reading a series and come across a book that gets you more excited for what's to come in upcoming stories? That is how I felt while reading this one. Again, nothing bad or negative to say about Sawyer's story, I am grateful for getting his background and finally being able to fill in the gaps because the man has been a hot mystery in previous books. But for some reason, I found myself connecting more with Genevieve-- I loved her awkward, spunky personality and that fact that she kept Sawyer on his toes. But even more was learning her story, how she carved a life for herself despite her incredibly challenging childhood.

But my absolute favorite scenes were actually not with Sawyer and Genevieve, but with the newbie loose cannon Preston and trigger happy Ty which totally caught me off guard! There is an air of crazy, unhinged danger around those two, very unpredictable and incredibly sexy. Maybe I'm a weirdo and like the crazy, unpredictable ones, but the ones that tend to go off half-cocked yet confident are the ones that drive me crazy in a good way!

Sybil, you never stop amazing me! I absolutely cannot wait for Ty and Preston's stories. Until then, Sawyer has earned his right to shine in the spotlight!

The first book in this series was more my speed. The following two I couldn’t finish for the life of me they were so boring.

This started off promising I liked the clashing personalities and would’ve enjoyed a bit more of that at the beginning. It quickly got boring and repetitive, Genevieve who was a character liked: scatter-brained, clumsy, nervous talker but also a business woman who was strong, resilient and someone to root for. Except all of her positive traits were slowly dismantled she cried a lot and I’m not one for that, even though her tears were justified it just got a bit much for me. She apparently doesn’t even like the business she worked so hard for which just came out of nowhere.

This book had a potential and a good storyline, the parts that were supposed to be emotionally impactful fell flat because of where they were placed in the story. All these moments of self-realisation felt really contrived. We didn’t learn a lot about her past relationship and what that was like, surely you must have loved the person or even the idea of that person to have made those decisions.

It was all kind of glossed over, the first 50 pages made me think I was in for at least a three star read. I liked the characters, I was interested and then slowly once again the female character morphed into all the other can’t think for themselves and makes poor decisions in the last two books. It just gets boring reading the same characters and the same terminology I get the marine angle but I roll my eyes every time I read “watch your six”.

Hence why I took a break to read some other books in the meantime. I’ll see what the other books in this series are like and will just skip the ones that aren’t of interest to me.

While providing security for a client at a party Sawyer comes in close contact with a sexy redhead that invades his space and rattles his core. There is just something about this feisty woman that makes him want to know more. So, he invites her to dinner, thinking he'll have his chance to get all the answers he is craving, but their night goes a little array when they become victims of a carjacking. From that moment on Sawyer takes it upon himself to appoint himself as her personal guardian, even though she doesn't seem to want the bossy bodyguard around. But her life is in danger and he isn't about to take any chances with her security, so she is forced to let him into her life, and before long her heart too!

Ruthless is an action packed, dramatic, and uber sexy tale that will have you teetering on the edge of your seat the whole way through. From the very first page these two had my full attention, between the sparks swirling around them, and the danger lurking, I just couldn't pry my eyes from the words. I loved this pairing, they initially seemed like an unlikely couple, but little by little as layers were peeled away I began to see that they might just work out perfectly. They had palpable chemistry, and they brought an unexpected tenderness to the pages, it was such a beautiful love story to watch unfold. I think it is safe to say Sawyer will become a favorite of romance readers, his alpha tendencies run bone deep, but he also comes with an unexpected side that'll steal your heart, he had mine in a matter of minutes! I highly recommend you meet this couple, their story comes brimming with everything to leave your toes curled and heart thoroughly squeezed!

Title: Ruthless
Author: Sybil Bartel
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ARC received in return for an honest review.

This book was everything, I honestly think Sybil Bartel could write out a parking ticket and make it that much more appealing, she has such a way with words.

Whilst providing security for a client at a party Sawyer comes into close contact with Genevieve and believe me when I say she was one lucky lady to capture his attention, yes he was rather bossy and intimidating and he made her even more nervous than she’s ever been before but when he asks, well more like demands they have something to eat together she has no choice but to follow his orders especially when her car refuses to start and he takes charge of getting her home. Things take a nose dive when the pair become victims of a carjacking which results in Genevieve’s life being put in danger, Sawyer takes it upon himself to be her personal protector he’s not willing to take any chances when it comes to her security which means she has no choice but to let him into her life and eventually her heart but it works both ways she quickly worms her way under his skin and into his heart.

There’s plenty of action, drama and sexual tension which will have you on the edge of your seat, as the story unfolds you’ll get to see another side to Sawyer which makes him even more irresistible, Genevieve was just what he needed. I was gutted when this story ended and as usual I was left wanting more, I can’t wait to meet our next Alpha.

I intended to just *start* Ruthless last night, but Sawyer and Genevieve drew me in too quickly and I ended up not being able to put it down. Ruthless is the perfect balance of action and suspense and love story, and an excellent addition to the Alpha Bodyguard series. I've really enjoyed the way the stories are standalones that continue to build on each other, and loved how much Talon we got to see this time!

Both Sawyer and Genevieve have some internal battles going on, and it leads to plenty of external conflict, but the story's crafted in such a way that it's all really... reasonable, despite the drama of it. There's a decent amount of gang violence, but Sybil Bartel does a wonderful job being descriptive enough to make it "real" without providing too much detail so that you get distracted and can't move on.

The steam is perfectly paced and highly enjoyable in a D/s-but-without-an-official-contract way. However, the lack of set expectations leads to some misunderstandings and drives some of the drama.

One small gripe: a pet peeve of mine is using "dominant" or "alpha" to describe the hero and his actions unnecessarily-if he's already doing something clearly badass, the adjective is just redundant and gets tiring. That happens enough to be noticeable, but not so much that you can't just gloss over it.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Disappointing - Couldn't Fully Like Sawyer

Sawyer and Genevieve’s story was disappointing. The only thing I enjoyed about this book was the suspense and some of the action scenes. I liked the hot mess heroine but got a little impatient with her inability to let go of her ex. The main characters seem a bit juvenile, making this into more of a young adult novel regardless of their ages.

Honestly, I couldn't fully like Sawyer. Even though he seemed broody and sexy, he expected perfect responses from Genevieve, and he seemed selfish. She was a doormat most of the time except when she got stubborn. The things she’d get stubborn about were typically ridiculous things, such as not wanting to sign the divorce papers because then she’d no longer have a "family", or she would need to change her last name.

Other things that bothered me: The sex was too rough, and the hero's morals about relationships were a little skewed for a guy who kills. The violence was over the top and bordered on making the hero look like a bad guy. It reminded me a little of the movie Point of No Return…We're going to kill these people but it's ok because they're bad people - we'll get them before they get us. This isn't war. Murder is still murder and that's just wrong.

Seeing other positive reviews, I may try one more novel by this author but this one was definitely not for me.

Like all of her books, the 4th book in Sybil Bartel's Alpha Bodyguards  -- Ruthless -- is sheer perfection.

Sawyer Savatier doesn't intend to find trouble when he asks Genevieve Jenkins out for a late-night burger following a security job, but trouble finds them in Sybil Bartel's Ruthless.

Scion of a wealthy Miami family, Sawyer is one of Andre Luna's bodyguards and he has appeared in previous installments in the Alpha Bodyguard series so I've been anxiously waiting for his starring turn. Man oh man, he didnt disappoint. He's surly, dominant, and sexy.  Genevieve is an endearing gal after my own heart who tends to babble when nervous and I loved this story from the opening scene clear through  to the sweet conclusion. Genevieve grew up in the foster system, not quite the mate his family would have chosen, but she intrigues Sawyer from the start. She unmasks a carjacker, endangering their lives, and putting Sawyer into full bodyguard mode. The gang rallies. I loved the appearances from former heroes, Dane, Tyler, and Talon.

Full of action and 5-star, alpha-male, take-charge passion as only Sybil Bartel can deliver, Sawyer and Genevieve are going to rank as one of my favorite couples. I highly recommend this suspenseful, sexy romance.

Get ready to be drawn into another intriguing and truly touching story

Ruthless had me captivated & clinging to my book from the beginning, and I did not put it down. I needed to know more about Sawyer and Genevieve. Sybil Bartel has a way of creating her stories and lives of the characters as such that you believe that you could meet on the street. I absolutely loved that Sawyer and Genevieve were not perfect individuals. They both had flaws because let's be honest no one is perfect or without demons. Sawyer and Genevieve are very much opposites. Sawyer is a bodyguard and is a total alpha male all the way. He loves control and order. Genevieve is a bundle of energy and nerves. She talks too much and drops everything. Genevieve has a lot of spunk and fight. I love a sassy heroine. Sawyer and Genevieve have amazing chemistry and tension. I experienced every range of emotion while reading Ruthless. I love all the feels (laughter, tears, etc) and is a sign of a great book in my opinion. I absolutely adore all of Sybil's and you can't go wrong with Get ready to be drawn into another intriguing and truly touching story by Sybil Bartel.

Enjoyed this book better than book 1 & 3, but the
I am honestly tired of the h in every single book being ignorant. Sure she was quirky and in a different way so that was funny to see out, but she got offended over everything just because she and that doesn't mean you can get mad at someone not liking members in their family. Just because I hated my biological sperm donor doesn't give you the right to be offended because your dad died, who you loved, you get it? It's like women who get offended they can't have kids or had a miscarriage and hate women who had an abortion, or say to those women who had an abortion, "i would have adopted it". No, life doesn't work that way, quit being offended by every little thing and you will enjoy your life much better.
Anyways, I am glad that I continued with this series, I saw something in this author even though I didn't really like Book 1 (toxic, actually hated it), skipped Book 2 (don't like toxic people who do not inform their baby daddy that they have a kid together), and Book 3 (same exact sex scenes as Book 1, quite literally in every sense of the word).

Sawyer needs control, his life revolves around it. So why does the walking, talking disaster named Genevieve tempt him like no other. Genevieve is so attracted to Sawyer but knows that a man like him, perfection from head to toe isn't for her. When circumstances spiral out of control, she has to stay in his condo and the pull between them quickly blows up in their faces. Will they be able to make it through this alive and together?

Sybil Bartel is hands down a flipping genius with words! Every time she puts out a book, I devour it and declare it the best book ever. Then she puts out her next one and she doesn't raise the bar, she obliterates it. Sawyer is an amazing alpha-hole, so intense and sexy that it should be against the law. Genevieve is sweet and soft but underneath there is such strength and I adore her! These two need each other so much, it hurt. My only complaint is that I wish Ruthless was longer; I wanted to spend more time with these two. If you like consuming stories that take over your life and mind, you need to get everything this amazing lady has written! Ten stars for Sybil Bartel's Ruthless!

If you haven’t read a book from, this author - you are missing out! I have now devoured every book this author has written and they are so compelling and captivating that I have read them all more than once, probably more than three times. Whenever I need an escape, I open one of Sybil’s books. The Alpha Bodyguard series has been a perfect read. We met many of these guys throughout the Compromising and Escort series and now they are getting a book of their own. Sawyer has always been one I looked forward to reading as his character is complicated. I love his protectiveness over Genevieve. Genevieve is just the polar opposite of Sawyer, she’s clumsy and nervous yet every know and then has a real bite. Their romance is raw and real. Some authors are blessed with the ability to tell a story so well you forget where you are and are obsorbed into the story, Sybil is one of those authors. Once you read one book, I dare you not to grab another, and another and another. Great story. I voluntarily received an arc copy of this book and purchased a copy as well cause I know I will read it again. 10⭐️‘s from me.
