Slade McCormack grew up in Virginia, and then spent ten years as a navy SEAL. He returns home trying to ease back into the real world after leaving the military. He comes back to nothing. He's alone and too in his head. He suffers from severe PTSD, and his memories from war felt crippling. He's assaulted daily by nightmares and flashbacks, and struggles to maintain his day to day life. He's working to stay afloat, and then he's offered a job that becomes his lifeline. His friend Vincent hires him to run security at the Milestone, a large scale hotel & casino in Vegas. This is just what he needs.

Lauren Amini is a legal secretary at one of the most prestigious law firms in L.A. She lives a fast paced life, and has almost anything a girl could want, yet she still wants more out of her personal and professional life. She's still hoping her prince charming is out there somewhere waiting to give her her happily ever after.

While on a trip to Vegas, Lauren runs into a sinfully hot man she shared one of the best nights of her life with. There was an electricity between them she's never felt before. As they begin to re-connect the evening spirals out of control. As things go wrong, Lauren looks to Slade as her hero.

Slade feels he's nobody's savior. He's barely getting by himself while focusing on building his career, but he can't deny the intense connection with Lauren. All he could offer her was something temporary, and he knew she was looking for long-term, but she surprises him by making it clear she wants him again. She has a kind and open heart he's drawn to. She brings him peace, and soon he can't seem to get enough of her. All at once she makes him feel like he wants to run away and yet never let her go. She feels made for him, but he wasn't in a position to be what she needed.

-Everything about this woman just does it for me.

-We were opposites, but there was something real between us. A connection that went beyond attraction.

-Lauren is everything I wish I could have but can't.

-The truth is there, written clearly for me to see. In another life, she'd be my only.

-She just satisfies me in a way I've never had before.

Things are to stay casual between Slade & Lauren, but real feelings develop, and Lauren realizes she's in love with a broken man. He's losing his grip, and it's getting worse as his past keeps invading his present. Things turn complicated as she begins seeing signs that something dark is going on within him. She fears for him as he begins to push her away. She desperately wants this man to be hers. To be the man she loves, who will love her in return.

Warrior Undone is my first book by Jessica Ruben, and I really enjoyed it! It's a contemporary/ new adult full length novel. It's a standalone spin-off from the Vincent and Eve series that's an emotional story about friendship, love, and healing. Vincent & Eve are in the story quite a bit which made me really want to read their books too. I look forward to reading more by this fantastic author!

“Some hearts are full of gratitude and joy, eager to make the earth a better place. My heart? It’s disfigured, and it can no longer be trusted.”

After I finished Jessica Ruben’s debut series Vincent & Eve, I had high hopes for Warrior Undone. I know the intelligent, compelling and emotionally driven story telling Jessica has produced in the past, but… wow…. I am literally speechless after this powerful, heart racing and breathtaking story. I first met Slade when reading Vincent & Eve and could not wait for his story, because I just knew his story would be well worth sharing. To say I was utterly consumed from start to finish would be stating the obvious; this book owned my heart and soul.

While I couldn't wait for Slade's book I was also a bit apprehensive about reading his story, but I absolutely fell head over heels in love with this beautifully broken and tragic man. While he is charming and oh so swoon worthy, he is also battling the inner demons he now possesses deep within himself. Slade sufferers from PTSD and the raw and vivid description of everything this beautiful man has been through seriously made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. The realism depicted was nothing short of poignant, powerful and thoughtfully sensitive.

“I’m so overwhelmed with this feeling, like she’s flowing into me. Clear as day, I know this woman has the power to give my life meaning but also to utterly destroy me.”

Lauren was perfect for Slade in every conceivable way; she challenged him when he needed it and she gave back as good as she got. The chemistry between the two was purely electrifying and the more layers that I uncovered, the more I was invested in the possibility of what could become of Slade and Lauren. The pain and the trauma were real and I was utterly devoted to the outcome.

We all know of stories about war veterans returning home and having difficulty assimilating back into day-to-day life. This is a real issue that affects many people, especially those with PTSD as Slade has. Jessica treats this issue with the respect it deserves. Her writing was on point; it was vivid and thoughtful, yet sensitive to this complex issue. Jessica didn’t attempt to glorify war, nor shy away from the harsh realities of it. This is the true mark of someone who understands their craft and takes the time to treat sensitive matters like this with the respect it deserves.

Warrior Undone was pure genius and this remarkable and all-consuming story deserves to be shared with the world. Jessica Ruben’s ability to tell a story is exceptional, from the thorough research, to the well-developed characters and engaging plot. I cannot recommend this story enough and I know it is one I will not forget.

Wow! My first read by Miss Ruben and I am hungry for more. Warrior Undone is unique. It is romance. More like enemy to lover type of romance. I love love the chemistry explosive between Slade and Lauren. Miss Ruben done a good job creating this lively, fueled hate and love relationship.

Then there is some moral messages in Warrior Undone. Gender inequality, war, PTSD and politic. Miss ruben done well exposing these issues especially PTSD for veteran without being too dramatic. I like that. Other authors sometimes over kill with PTSD.
The sexual chemistry is off the chart. Sizzling hot. So hot it makes me squirm on my office desk!

Overall a very very good book.

I literally just stood up and started a slow clap after finishing Warrior Undone. *WOW* Bravo Jessica Ruben! I am utterly wrecked, speechless and stunned after this story.

I have to admit, I wasn't quite sure what to expect after Vincent & Eve's series.......which was my top series last year so my expectations were extremely high. Warrior Undone is completely different and in some ways, dare I say......I loved it even more! Why? Because Slade's story comes through as such a pure labor of love by Jessica.

"I don’t deserve Lauren. I don’t deserve anyone. I’m nothing but smashed glass."

Warrior Undone is an adrenaline rush, heart pumping, terrifying, beautiful, humbling, shocking and thought provoking. I broke down crying several times because parts were so painful but healing as well.

Jessica's truthful storytelling while shining a light on important issues combined with an intimate love that will bring you to your KNEES and swoon proves her versatility as an amazing author.

“W-what do you want me to do?” Her voice trembles, but she’ll do what I ask. “Spread your legs for me. Just sink into the seat and get comfortable."I’ve never done this before. "Good. Don’t want to think about you ever doing this with anyone but me. All you have to do is listen and do as I say." My voice is her command.

Slade struggles. He struggles with the kind of man he *thinks* he should be. He's broken, unhinged, but he's also strong, chivalrous, protective and an unbelievable human being. Slade and Lauren's story is as heart warming as it is heartbreaking. It's illuminating, breathtaking, messy and at times tragic. I'm already missing them and their incredible journey.

"Some hearts are full of gratitude and joy, eager to make the earth a better place. My heart? It’s disfigured, and it can no longer be trusted."

Thank you Jessica, you knocked this one out of the park! And thank you for the glimpses of  Vincent and Eve,  I was needing that.

Hello Whiplash!

Total. Intense. Whiplash. From the very beginning and that intensity doesn’t let up until the very end. Saying this one is a roller coaster is an understatement. It’s kind of like a roller coaster caught up in a tornado. But the crazy was addicting and kept me turning the pages until the very end.

Here’s the thing about Slade and Lauren, I liked them, I really, really liked them, but damn did they try me on all kinds of levels. They are both really good people with really good hearts, but they have a lot of internal turmoil going on and it had me wanting to hug them one second and Gibbs smacking some sense into them the next, and at times I wanted to do it simultaneously.

As for their journey. It was rough, and that’s a huge understatement. When things were good, they were really good, when they were bad, they were REALLY bad and I’ll be honest and admit that while I loved them together, there were moments where I wanted them to cut bait and go their separate ways because they were were definitely getting to that point of going over the toxic line. But, despite it all the crazy, I liked where they were at in the end.

This is my first read by the author (I do have the Vincent & Eve trilogy on the Kindle, but life happened) and despite the crazy, I really enjoy it. The writing was engaging, the pacing good and the I enjoyed the dual 1st person POV’s and she definitely has a way of getting you hooked from the start. The triggers in this one are real and they are intense and definitely kept me on the edge. As for the secondary characters, having not met Vincent and Eve before, I do have to say that I ended up really liking them and will hopefully get to their story sooner rather than later. So, if you’re looking for an intense, smexy and angsty read, then this baby is for you!

3,7. O enredo foi muito bom, mas não gostei nem um pouco da personagem principal, vazia! Ao contrário do personagem principal, perfeito.
Achei uma pena a história dele ser contada com uma parceira tão insossa!

The minute I read Jessica Ruben's Warrior Undone I was hooked. I thought Slade and Lauren were sexy, intense and very addicting. This story was so heartbreaking and emotional but ultimately uplifting. Slade and Lauren were raw, real and provocative. I thought this story was fantastic!!

In Warrior Undone, I particularly loved the author's honest depiction of Slade, a combat veteran struggling with PTSD and survivor's guilt after the death of his friend and teammate. His sadness and vulnerability came right off the pages which meshed perfectly with his rugged alpha personality. I loved that he had a face and persona he put on for the world which I felt perfectly matched Lauren. She was more that the pampered rich girl persona she put out there. There was so much more to both of them than at first glance and it was striking to see how well they fit together on a deeper level.

Overall, I enjoyed this story as Slade's overall breakdown was so well written. I felt every gutpunch and seriously was glued to my seat. This story really forced you to feel a wide myriad of emotions. I smiled and swooned and my eyes watered in the same breath. What an amazing ride! Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula

5 stars! Actually this was an amazing book!! I wasn't expecting anything else after reading Eve's and Vincent tale!! It's a story that struggles with very emotional and important matters such as PSTD, drugs and death!! For me it was emotional, beautiful, breathtaking read !! Surely it was a remarkable story and I totally recommend it!

REVIEW: DNF

Well, darnit. The cover worked. The synopsis worked. But man, the writing and characters just didn't work for me. Many different factors and scenarios came into play determining if I was going to continue on with this book, or if I was just going to call it quits. DNF'ing this book wasn't an easy decision because I wanted to desperately read it, but it didn't work for me for so many reasons. I quit around 35% and then skimmed the remaining of the book, but focused on a few parts that caught my eye - hence the DNF review.

I think the biggest problem I truly had overall was the heroine. There was something (many things) I did NOT like about her. To begin - girl was needy. Seriously needy. Her need for love and acceptance definitely didn't match her inner poisons about what she just went through with Slade either. Add in the fact that she was so wishy-washy on not only the choices she made, but her behavior as well. Some of her actions made me shake my head. With no rhyme or reason to back up her very adamant decisions, she just felt disingenuous. I also didn't enjoy the mental recaps and conclusions she jumped to. Oh dear, her conclusions. It's called communication and at 30+ years old, you should know how that works by now. All the questions she asked herself? Why!? It kind of felt like Ruben was setting me up for scenarios and drama while being force fed thoughts and emotions, instead of allowing me to make up my own determinations and allowing the words to take me on a journey. I like to feel my way through a book, not be led by dangling not-so-subtle clues in front of me.

Here was my biggest pet peeve about Lauren. If she was suuuuch good friends with Eve, why all the secrets? That part made absolutely ZERO sense to me and it frustrated me beyond belief. Best friends share everything and the so called secrets she was keeping from her were ridiculous. Why hold onto those? Seemingly simple but very important discussions you would have with your best friend, but for some reason, she held back on them. It was very frustrating because all it did was add unnecessary drama to the story and more mental discussions and conclusions in Lauren's already fickle mind. She was definitely a different person with her own quirks, but those secrets were not logical on any playing field. At all.

Slade's issues were definitely heavy ones given the life he led and the horrors he lived through. I refuse to take away from that aspect because I have zero experience with it, but I will say that part was harsh and eye-opening. I felt his struggle in the very beginning when he was home alone and in bed. Adding more trauma to his already taxed psyche didn't help matters, and I don't like the route he traveled to 'better himself'. Aside from that, Slade didn't 'read' very hardcore, heavy, manly. His voice had a very feminine ring to it, unfortunately. He said all the right words, but it didn't sound that way. So, I'm not sure if that made me wrinkle my nose up at him or not. I didn't not like him, he just didn't have the grrr factor I like in a man of his position. I wanted to read his story, but I just couldn't get through it.

I definitely had a hard time with the internal monologuing done by both characters, and I can't deny that was a bit of a drag for me. I know that there should be some inner thought processes we should be privy to when reading a book, but I felt this was way overdone.

I felt very disconnected and torn away from not only her character, but the entire storyline too. I wasn't as immersed as I thought I would be given the drama and action unfolding on the pages before my very eyes. There were so many mentally and physically conflicting actions that it made it hard for me to reconcile my feelings with what was happening in the book. It's safe to say that this book and the writing style didn't work for me.

BREATHING MOMENT: There is nothing MORE frustrating than jumping into a spinoff or a "standalone" in a series, only to find out they spoil some parts of the previous books in it. Why must authors do this? Why even give anything away from the previous books that was NOT integral to the story at hand? Because finding out Vincent was in a coma and Lauren was there to help Eve out....oops. Did I spoil that? Yeah, that's exactly what the author wrote in this 'standalone'. So if she's going to spoil it, why read it? I am very upset about this because I bought RISING to read. I will still read it, but now I will be expecting the drama to unfold that leads to him being in a coma. If I sound bitter, I'm sorry. But I am. Don't claim it as a standalone when you are going to drop clues that aren't necessary to the entirety of the story you are currently telling.

I absolutely devoured this book. I tried putting it down, and just couldn't. J Ruben wrote a perfect story of a broken veteran and a strong, independent heroine. It was exhilarating, breathtaking, and all-consuming.

I first met Slade in Vincent & Eve's series, which I loved so much that I wasn't sure how I would feel about Slade's story. But this man stole my heart!!!! He is so beautifully broken. He is all Alpha-male and I am HERE.FOR.IT. The muscles, the confidence, the possessive and protective nature - GAH - I fell for him hard. Although you know that he is battling his own demons, you can't help but get swept up in his charming and swoon-worthy ways.

When Lauren enters the picture, I actually loved the fact that they had met before. Their chemistry was already established, and the way Slade stalked her like she was his prey in their initial reunion scene was SO HOT! I was done for this man right there. I loved Lauren - she was classy, brilliant, beautiful and had just enough sass to put Slade in his place when needed. Their banter was so fun and flirty and Lauren's confidence made me want to channel my inner female goddess. She had Slade figured out pretty quickly, and it was both endearing and nerve-wracking to watch how she tip-toed around both of their feelings and emotions.

"But it seems that so long as I don't cross any of his boundary lines, he'll stay in his natural state - cool, calm, controlled, and sexy as hell." Sigh....sexy as hell is right!

The more time that Lauren & Slade spend together, the more I found myself inserted in their lives and invested in their outcome. Their story is so real and raw. The descriptive scenes of Slade's PTSD and the tragedy that occurs in this book both brought tears and goosebumps. J Ruben did a fabulous job of truly painting the picture of what war veterans experience upon returning home, as well as the reality of today's crisis of mass shootings; and the parallels she drew between Lauren's experiences with working with Eve and her own involvement with Slade were simply brilliant. This book will steal your breath. You will cry tears of pain and joy. You will fall in love with not only the hero, but also the bold and determined heroine. I was both empowered and humbled by this book. J Ruben - you have done it again, and I can't wait to see what's next from you!!! 5+ stars from me for Warrior Undone!!!

Outstanding book! Well written depiction of PTSD. This book really hit home for me. I was rooting for Slade and Lauren since they were introduced in the Vincent & Eve trilogy.
Warrior Undone tackles real life issues that so many veterans and their families face on a daily basis. I can’t recommend this read enough.

So, I LOVED the Vincent and Eve series. When I finished, I immediately messaged Jessica and told her I NEEDED Slade! I fell for him before I ever even had his book! His story is emotional and hard sometimes, but it’s sweet too. Those strong, broken heroes just do me in every time! I really, really enjoyed this book. I only wish it was longer and that we maybe got a little more time towards the end. I would’ve liked to see more of Slade and Lauren working though their issues together. But still, totally love this author and book. Can’t wait for more stories from Jessica Ruben!!

This book just didn't work for me compared to Light My Fire and the first two Vincent and Eve books. I almost DNF'd this one but I persevered just to see how much Lauren would put up with from Slade (hint: it's a lot and waaaaay too much) and to see more of Eve and Vincent.

I had so many issues with the one week these two spent together while the whole relationship was an abusive, dangerous as f*ck and out of control whirlwind of bad choices and even more red flags than I could handle watching anyone ignore. This tries to tackle PTSD in a realistic way but it glosses over too much. A mass shooting in a club (a plot device I hate and think is exploitative). The murder of one of Slades men from the new security company (during the last V&E book) which is never acknowledged. An immature 32 y/0 woman so desperate to find love she is irrational (I'm sorry, but if someone, anyone but especially your new lover, points a gun at you, you shouldn't make excuses, ignore it and keep going like nothing is wrong). There was nothing romantic about this book because every "nice" thing Slade did came with an abusive element before or after.

And once again, the authors downfall is the ending. The ending was terrible and the epilogue completely unfulfilling.

Warrior Undone is a stand-alone romance that is a spinoff from Jessica Ruben's series Vincent and Eve which I loved and if you haven't read it, its a definite must read if you ask me.

Now this book is about Slade and Lauren who we met in the Vincent and Eve series. This book deals with PTSD and the affect it can have. Jessica definitely gives us some very raw and often times heartbreaking moments throughout this book.

I found myself bouncing back and forth between how I wanted the characters to deal with things as they came up. It definitely had me thinking of what I would do in the scenario that Slade and Lauren find themselves in. When you're in love what lengths will you go to when the other person is struggling? And at what point do you say enough is enough, more importantly can you make those hard decisions knowing there might be no coming back from them.

No I feel this is where I might be in the minority a bit with this book. While the storyline was definitely emotional and heavy, I struggled to connect with Slade and Lauren individually. Don't get me wrong what they go through is definitely heartbreaking and angsty. But I just couldn't connect to them for whatever reason. Bare in mind I've been in a bit of a slump lately when it comes to reading, this book did take me a few days to read when normally I'm a sit down and don't come up for air until I'm done kind of girl.

I loved the storyline, the emotional aspects of it and the journey between the two characters. And I absolutely think that those that love a good emotional read will love this one. If asked I would say yes it's worth a read.

This book had everything I normally love in a book.....a broken military hero, a strong heroine, and a great storyline. I really did like it, but I struggled with it at some parts and sometimes felt disconnected from the characters. Overall though, it was really good and I see many, many of you loved it, so it could have just been me and my mindset at the time. You know how that goes sometimes.

Jessica Ruben has wow’d us again! Warrior Undone is the standalone spin-off from the Vincent & Eve series. It features Slade and Lauren. It is emotional, intense, and full of angst. The burn is slow as the story builds up. Like a roller-coaster our ride is wild with ups, downs and a few crazy turns.

Slade is a complex man. He is dominant and direct. As a Navy SEAL his life was full of control and adrenaline. When Vincent Borignone, Slade’s best friend, offers him an opportunity to head security at the Milestone Casino in Nevada, he takes it.

I grew up well. Football captain. Great friends. Church every Sunday. Both my parents were hard working and God-fearing.

Slade’s return home has left him a bit out of sorts. He is a war veteran struggling with everyday life as memories flood him. Living life in-between the past and the present. His internal dialogue is waging a war in his head and his thoughts are rampant. Doubt, fear and insecurity creeps in. Slade becomes moody and unpredictable.

Some hearts are filled with gratitude and joy, eager to make the earth a better place. My heart? It’s disfigured and can no longer be trusted.

Lauren is Eve Borignone’s best friend. Living the single life in LA, she is fun and free spirited, full of love and laughter. Lauren and Slade meet at Vincent and Eve’s wedding and their chemistry is hot! Flashbacks of the wedding tell of their super sexy encounter. She returns home to LA but is not feeling like her old self…

…everything in my life looks and feels like filler, overstuffed with fleeting conversations and pretentious hellos.

A chance encounter brings Lauren and Slade back together. They are raw and intense. Slade tries to fight off his feelings but they over rule him! He wants to throw caution to the wind and his selfishness wins out. They consume each other! But there is so much more going on. Coping and self-loathing take the lead as Slade is living in-between the past and present.

I don’t deserve the love of a woman like her, nor am I in the state of mind to have it.

Lauren is perceptive and fierce. She senses something is off with Slade but has no idea how right she is. She knows he is damaged but has no idea how badly. Lauren looks the other way for fear of rejection and losing the small amount of time she would spend with him. Slade is unavailable emotionally. Lauren finds herself having to make difficult choices. Once again, actions have consequences…

“True love is flexible and forgiving. Even if your lover lets you down, the love won’t break because it will bend for the other person.”

Jessica Ruben’s words are beautifully written. Warrior Undone is an emotional, uncertain and heart breaking love story. It has a much different vibe then the Vincent & Eve series. The intensity is high and so are the “feels.” Slade and Lauren’s love hits every possible road block. Slade struggles as he tries to cope with so many issues. And kudos to the epilogue!!! I loved it!!!! It really warmed my heart!

We are also treated to lots of Vincent and Eve interactions! I was absolutely captivated by Rising and completed with Redemption. Jessica has become a 1 click author for me! It is hard to believe that she debuted her first book in 2018! I can’t wait to see what she writes next!!!

He’s the warrior right now, in complete control.

WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! Jessica Ruben has penned another heart-stopping and soul-slaying sensation!!! The perfect blend of romantic and real. WARRIOR UNDONE completely undid me, unraveling every piece of my military wife heart. I was UTTERLY MOVED, rendered bare, broken, breathless and bleeding, and oh did I love every moving minute. So WONDERFULLY WRECKED.

Told through a former military hero that has been to battle but still bears invisible scars and a strong and sweet heroine, Warrior Undone delves into the value of life and love among friends and the fragility of it all, as it shines an authentic light on the aftermath of war. Through courageous and compelling characters, Jessica Ruben tackles the tough topic that tears apart lives— PTSD—and gives a voice to victims. I broke for the broken hero and as a military wife, I felt his PSD pain all too well. This hero and heroines’ journey is not an easy one, it’s a hard fought battle of demons, one won by love. Lauren and Slade are two kindred spirits with beautiful hearts—fated together in the most messy but meaningful of ways.

”I want to be the type of man who deserves you.”

Like its aptly-named title, Warrior Undone is a beautifully broken and brilliantly told book on love, loss, and life after war. Every single feel is wrapped in a war of words—with ups and downs and highs and lows—in one riveting roller coaster of a romance. It’s heartbreak and healing. It’s the shattering of the soul and the strength to soar. It’s all the feels. It’s all the things. This story stole my military wife heart as it spoke to my soul. A soul-striking and significant story that shines.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 beautifully broken ‘warrior’ stars

4.5 stars!!

I absolutely loved her debut series Vincent and Eve...so when she revealed she was writing a standalone I all but jumped out of my skin wanting to read it and yessssss ..Jessica Ruben did not disappoint!!! Omg I loved this book so much...Slade McCormak is failing at dealing with his PTSD from being Navy Seal and seeing more than his fair share of bad things while in Afghanistan. Now back in the civilian world he meets Lauren at a wedding and there’s instant chemistry and a huge connection but he knows that he’s no good to anyone especially in a relationship.

Lauren has had enough of her empty materialistic life in LA..she’s unhappy with her career...her friends no longer feel like her friends and she realizes things need to change and soon. On a crazy night in Vegas she bumps into Slade again..sparks are flying between them but tragedy strikes and they are literally running for their lives. With the events of that night they are both extremely affected.

Like I said before I loved this book so much...Slade broke my heart and all I wanted to do was hug him and tell him everything will be ok lol!! Lauren on the other hand annoyed me a bit...indecisive women always bug the hell out of me. The situation she was put in was difficult especially when you’re in love but honey put your big girl panties on and see what going on in front of you.

Other than that’s this book is perfection and should be on the very top of your TBR list!!

I love romance books where the hero is military or former military. It just does it for me. And for many other readers as evidenced by the great number of military love stories out there for romance reader consumption. What made this one different for me was the depth and honesty with which the author wrote our hero, Slade, who suffers from severe PTSD. Now... I don't know a whole bunch about PTSD. Only what I have read or heard from others. That being said, Slade's struggle with this condition seemed heartbreakingly real. Events that occur in the present trigger Slade who begins to spiral and eventually hits rock bottom. Lauren is the heroine who steals his heart and makes him want to be a better man.. I admired her self-confidence and inner-strength. Although it may not seem like it on the outside, she is the perfect match for Slade. His struggles were often painful to read, but necessary to his character growth and eventual healing. It is realistic as their tale closes that he is not perfect. He is a work in progress and continues on his journey to overcome his PTSD. This contemporary romance is full of emotion and the struggles of this couple make the ending all that much sweeter.

Slade was the epitome of a damaged man. He had been pushing so much hurt and guilt down and ignoring it. I have not personally dealt with PTSD, but this seemed like a very realistic and gritty portrayal of it. It’s an ugly beast that has the potential to not only destroy the person’s life who suffers from it, but also the lives of those around them. Slade knew he was battling it but didn’t want to get help. Instead, he tried to keep his distance from those who he was afraid he could hurt like Lauren. Unfortunately, the heart doesn’t always listen to you when it comes to love. Their love ends up giving both of them something worth “changing” and fighting for. Lauren’s fight is different from Slade’s. He has to fight his demons and calm his PTSD and Lauren has to embrace who she really wants to be. For years she lived the way others “expected” her to — whether it was her parents, friends or men she dated. She never allowed herself to be who she really wanted to be. She needs to find and be that person now and live her own life.

They both have to be good on their own before they can be good together. Theirs is definitely a uniquely different love story. 4 “broken” stars!

A lot of potential.

I guess it just wasn't for me.
Slade and Lauren's story showed some serious stuff and it was very interesting to read. The story was well written and, as I said, it had a lot of potential.

But I couldn't connect with the main characters. It was hard to accept or justify their actions, and I don't think Slade's condition was all to blame, because even after he started seeking help, he made things here and there that made me cringe a little.

I was more interested in Vincent and Eve than in Slade and Lauren. And for that, I want to read this author again and give it a go on their series. I really like those two.

I was given an advanced readers copy of this book and have decided to leave a voluntary honest review. First I have to say how much it sickens me to see these good men who served our country risked there life night and day for us to live the way we do. And then when they can no longer serve and fight they are tossed aside like nothing which is unfair. These men are so good with amazing hearts. Warrior undone shows us how bad PTSD can be, it hurt my heart to see Slade go through all that. He's a good man who lost everything but hes still pushing through. I admire him for that.

I don’t even know how to explain the problems I had with this book. It started off good but after 20% I lost interest. I feel like the characters were all over the place and they were constantly changing their mind. Just wishy washy and they both just bugged me. I really wanted to like this. I tried to force it. I just couldn’t connect.

I skimmed portions of this book. I think the approach to PTSD, drug use and physical abuse was handled well. Not my type of read but I wanted to give it a try.

Rating:NC-17 (drug use, physical abuse, sexual content and language)
Language: use of deity, profanity throughout
Recommend: on the fence

❤~🌟~❤ 4.5 BEAUTIFULLY TORTUROUS STARS! ❤~🌟~❤

“My heart is at war.”

ELECTRIFYING. TRAGICALLY BEAUTIFUL. SOUL-CONSUMING. HEART-SHATTERING. AWE-INSPIRING! These are just a few of the catchphrases that come to mind when I try to encapsulate the epic journey that Jessica Rubens takes us on in WARRIOR UNDONE.

THE PREMISE:
The hero of this gloriously penned, POWERFULLY EMOTIONAL tale is Slade, a former Navy SEAL who is wrestling with dark demons after 12 years of hard combat. With his entire family gone, he has nothing left to come home to in Virginia and his time at war has turned him into a mere shell of his former self. Reacclimating to civilian life has proved to be an uphill battle as he finds himself feeling woefully inept at battling his nightmarish PTSD. But just when all seems lost, fate intervenes—for the better— when he's offered a security job at a swanky casino and resort in Las Vegas. And then, in a shocking turn of events, he’s out partying with his pals one night and locks gazes with a stunning young woman who is ACHINGLY FAMILIAR.

Lauren Amini leads a busy, hectic life as a legal secretary and came to Sin City for a friend's bachelorette party, hoping to cut loose and get a little wild and crazy. But in her alcohol induced haze she can barely believe her eyes when she spots the hunky, hard-bodied Slade McCormack at the same nightclub! Slade and Lauren spent one of the hottest nights of their lives together at a friend's wedding a few months back, and though they never fathomed crossing paths again in Vegas, its suddenly as if time stands still as they find themselves magnetically drawn together once again.

There is no denying the sparks flying between them, but their night of revelry comes to a crashing halt when it takes a terrifying turn. Going commando, Lauren’s hot, sexy protector jumps into the fray to keep the exotic beauty safe from harm! In the traumatic aftermath, Lauren gazes at him like he’s some sort of hero. But while Slade warns her he is NO ONE’S SAVIOR, their smoldering attraction ultimately proves impossible to resist. Lauren’s warm, bubbly presence is like a balm to Slade’s world weary soul but he knows he's too messed up to offer her anything long-term. They mutually agree to keep things casual, but before long they find themselves falling helplessly in love.

However, as hard as he tries, Slade cannot banish the darkness inside of him and as he finds himself spiraling dangerously downward he ends up scaring the one person he'd do anything to protect. Against all odds, can this broken down warrior slay his darkest demons to salvage his future with the beloved girl who has miraculously resuscitated his heart?

MY MUSINGS:
WARRIOR UNDONE is a story of love, survival and soul-deep healing that’s NOT TO BE MISSED! And how moly did Jessica Ruben, a new to me author, wreck me in the best possible way! This emotionally riveting tale gave me swoony butterflies, made my heart race, twisted my gut into knots, and brought TEARS OF AGONY and SWEET ELATION to my eyes! And the steamy interludes were deliciously tantalizing and scorching hot!!!

“The man is a flood. Once I opened the gate, he found his way into every part of me.”

Intertwined throughout this gloriously addictive romance is a gut-wrenching, unflinchingly raw depiction of a young war veteran’s struggle with PTSD as he tries to readjust to life on the homefront. Ms. Ruben should truly be commended for shedding light on an uber important issue that SO MANY veterans face upon returning home from war. Her stark, gritty portrayal of Slade’s daily trials and tribulations, as well as the devastating ramifications of his attempts to self-medicate, were so palpable it gave me goosebumps! This author did not sugar coat the harrowing details of the hero’s debilitating PTSD, nor did she take a sentimental approach to his struggles. And the end result TOOK MY BREATH AWAY!

And omfg…Slade is PURE BROODY ALPHA MALE PERFECTION! I loved this big, tatted, tough-talking wounded warrior with EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING. And even when he becomes alarmingly unhinged, his strength, chivalry, and sheer inner resilience somehow always shine through. But not gonna lie…I HURT SO BAD for Slade, and no matter how hard he tries to forget, the haunting memories of the unspeakable horrors he bore witness during his tours of duty have been forever imprinted on his damaged soul. Having to relive these nightmares day in and day out have taken a toll on his psyche…and sob…I wanted to wrap the big guy up in my arms and chase away his demons.

Fortunately, despite his mercurial mood swings and crippling issues, he has his own sweet ray of “sunshine” in his corner. Lauren. Although at first the pampered city sophisticate hardly seemed like this downhome ex-SEAL’s type, as it turns out they are a match made in heaven! Lauren is adorably feisty and alluringly sexy, has a wicked sense of humor, and in times of trouble, she is Slade’s only lifeline. An answer to his unspoken prayers. She not only brings him sweet solace in his darkest hours, but she sasses and challenges him when he needs it most, and the potent chemistry these two kindred spirits share is COMBUSIBLE! And, in turn, Slade inspires Lauren too because she is at a crossroads in her life and in his adoring eyes she sees the BEST VERSION OF HERSELF.

But make no mistake…these two experience some really ROUGH times together, and sadly, love alone cannot fix what's broken between them when Slade finally hits rock bottom.

“It hurts to love him.”

Yet, ultimately, while the angst-ridden journey they embark on is riddled with pain and heartache, there’s also an ABUNDANCE of love and joy and hope...and I was delighted with where they ended up!

BOTTOM LINE:
WARRIOR UNDONE is a tour de force novel that touched my heart and soul! I truly cannot recommend this story highly enough and can’t wait to read more from this incredible author!

Touching story

A story of finding yourself with lots of bumps mistakes and drama. The story of the Vet finally getting help is so important and valuable in today’s society. We have so many Veterans who don’t and self medicate, take drugs, are violent and commit suicide. I am glad it didn’t end up like that. I am glad that love conquers all. God’s greatest gift is love.
