Liana Linacre always thought of herself as the boring good girl, because that's what she was before an alluring vampire named Evan came to her window. What begins as her fantasy romance ends with a curse that threatens her life and that of everyone she loves. No longer the pampered prep school student, she becomes an orphan on the run from dark forces that want her soul.
This lands her in Taos, New Mexico, a quirky artist colony and the home of her even quirkier Aunt Cassie, who is willing to give her a place to stay, but refuses to be an adult role model. Left on her own in a public high school serving a low income area, Liana captures the attention of the mysterious Corban Alexander. He makes it clear right away, he wants her gone, but that isn't an option for her.
The only way for Liana to survive is to outsmart the ancient evil that wants her dead.
Corban must decide if he can forgive a girl who made the one mistake he believes is unforgivable.
Only if they fight together together can they prevail in an age-old fight that evil has always won.

This is not a genre that I usually read, YA urban-ish fantasy, but I know the author writes compelling characters and stories, and I was curious for something different.
I could not put it down. It grabbed me from the beginning and I kept turning the pages.
It's a fresh take on vampirism from the first-person POV of a teenage girl, Liana, who's recently relocated to Taos to live with her aunt. She starts attending the local high-school and everything is very different from the life she had in the east coast. She meets Corban and struggles to understand him until some facts come to life.
The setting is extremely well done and it takes the same relevance as one of the main characters. I've never been to Taos (probably never will) but reading about it in this book was completely immersive.
I'm looking forward to the next one and see where the relationship goes between Liana and Corban.
ONE ENTHRALLING TREAT!!! Unbelievable! If you're looking for an action packed, hard hitting, pulse pounding, heart racing, mind blowing thrill ride. Congratulations my friends you've found it. Emily brought out the big guns with this tough as nails on point treat that blast this bad boy to life flawlessly. Hurdling the trials and tribulations, seeking refuge and coming up short. Throw in intrigue, danger and suspense and you have one page flipping delight. A bounty of hapless surprises and a bevy of daunting events take you one one wild ride. Twists and turns, ups and downs, a few sharp corners and sleek lines keep you riveted on a razors end spinning this baby together piece by piece. The characters traits and qualities are well balanced and blended with enough spice to add flavor to the mix. 100% spot on with amazing scenarios that are so colorfully described its like you're living it with them instead of on the sidelines. Fabulous job Emily, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
Emily Mah knows how to write characters. They are realistic, relatable, and so human (even when they are paranormal beings!). I love such compelling characters that help drive the plot forward.
Chasing Sunrise grabbed me in the beginning and the next thing I new, I was reading the last page. The world building is fantastic. I felt as if I was dropped right into this story. I also enjoy that even though vampires are done a lot, this was different take.
The romance was well done. I didn’t feel it was super rushed like it can be in YA sometimes. It was done with respect to the characters and what a relationship looks like.
If you enjoy paranormal romance, I suggest checking this one out. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
LOVEDlovedloved the experience of reading this book. Liana was a layered, interesting character, as was Corban. The story was built in layers and centers around the meaning of morality and how that affects our characters and relative goodness. It was a deep question wrapped around a compulsive story and I adored it. Could NOT put it down.
I originally borrowed this book from my library because the main character had the same name is me and I usually enjoy vampire books but this book was so much better than I thought it would be. I throughly enjoyed the characters as well as the story. I will be buying the second book in the series for sure.
This was a very interesting read. I did like some parts but there were parts that dragged. The ending left me hanging to I’m anxiously waiting to read book 2.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. This is an interesting twist to a vampire story. I loved the book so much, I will definitely read it again.
