description

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

So what do you do if three powerful Titans have escaped Tartarus and seem hell bent on taking over the world ? If you are the ever resourceful Rowan then you get ready for the battle of your life. It doesn’t matter that she knows it’s a trap Rowan is determined to somehow climb Mount Olympus and confront the Gods in their stronghold. Ok I won’t lie she does have a little help from her lover the glorious Maximus and her adorable familiars who pop up when most needed. Yet here the author adds a little something else with creatures of Myth , Gods with attitude and did I forget to mention Rowan has troubles at home ?
Yes this story has the same frantic pace we are used to but for this reader as much as I absolutely adore everything historical that gets thrown in its Rowan and her emotional journey that stands out. I felt so much for this girl who had been kidnapped, abused and left without her own magic. She never gave up but instead mastered potion making, fought harder then everyone imagined she could and all whilst somehow coming to grips with the idea that she’s connected to Gods and has powers awakening that will change her life. It’s action packed, funny and there’s even a little romance but most of all it’s a book that allows this reader to cheer for a family that understands love, hard work and devotion. Do not start here though as reading about Rowans sisters brings so much depth and dare I say lots of mayhem ? Enjoy this series and the books connected with it safe in the knowledge that it’s good clean fun that never lacks excitement and positively encourages feminine empowerment.
This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Dragon's gift indeed! I loved this book and I loved this series. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. Rowan may just be my favorite sister. I adore Maximus Valerius and I can't neglect her three sidekicks - Romeo, Poppy and Eloise. This series had everything you could want and more! I loved the moment told Maximus she loves him. It was priceless. Rowan is an amazing character. Kidnapped when she was young and trapped within a spell that allowed the dark forces who captured her to use her against her sisters. After they rescued her she found she had no powers left. Being the awesome person she is she turned to creating potions and hand to hand fighting to make her way. She has to fight the leftover darkness within her as she gains her dragon god powers. The adventures, the tests she must endure to prove herself and the lessons she learns along the way all combine to shape her into the best version of herself. Culminating in an epic battle that involves everyone from all of the Dragon's Gift books and some new friends she's made along the way, this book packs a punch that left this reader ready to applaud. I thank you Linsey Hall for this truly epic series. All 30 books have been wonderful and I'm sad to see it end.

As I was reading this book I was right there fighting with Rowan and her friends. The whole series made me look at how I have had to fight “evil” in my life and Choose “good”. Just like for each of the sisters, we all have our own fights with good and evil. Loved this series!! I love how the author takes her knowledge and former career and uses it in the stores! Makes them even more fun!! Twinkees for the turtle! 🐢

So conflicted right now, both happy and yet so sad at the same time. I adored this book in the Dragon Gift: The Amazon series, with everything neatly coming to conclusion in this final edition. We get to see some more of the Greek gods, their opinions on mankind and their crazy-arse, power obsessed selves; as well as hints at potential future romances in any spin-off books. Rowan is pushed to complete her conversion into the Greek DragonGod and journeys to Mount Olympus to get her final power. Along the way she and Maximus are put to the test as they face the trials on the climb up Mount Olympus.

Rowan woke up because of the alarm that signed the castle was under attacked. She, her boyfriends, her sisters, and their boyfriends immediately rushed outside to see what happened and saw an army of demons and Magica with fanatic gleans in their eyes, outside of their doorstep. One of the magica stepped forward and called out her name then suddenly, Jude got a call from the Queens of Amazon, requesting for Rowan's presence because the Great One (not the one from that stupid temple, but some kind of oracle) called for her. She teleported to their headquarters and she had to went through another portal to meet her. But before that, she had to face her greatest fear (belief me, her greatest fear is exactly the same as other boring heroes: losing her loved ones).

After that, she met the Great One who said she was somehow connected to the Titans and they would like to speak with her. She made Rowan slept and she woke up in the Titans' old stronghold. They had been amassing armies and working on a counter-spell that weakened her, then they told her to come to them so they could kill her. She woke up again on her body with the Great One, who told her she hadn't achieved her full power and told her to go to Mount Olympus (of course her full power allowed her to fly. idiot), then she sent Rowan back to the Amazons. She told the queens what happened and they told her Atlas or Prometheus might be able to help her find the real Mt. Olympus with the right price. Then, Bree called due to some trouble in the Grassmarket.

She immediately transported there and immediately welcomed by chaos. A mage shot her with a sonic boom then she threw him a potion that immobilized him. She surveyed her surrounding and saw mages from the vaults were destroying shops in the Grassmarket. She spotted the one with the worse fanatic gleam in his eyes, a sort of leader, and shot him with some light magic. Then she went for one of the few remaining ones and interrogated him. Turned out, the leader recruited them the day before and they were not under some kind of the titans' mind control, they did all of this out of their own twisted will. Then the mages tried to kill her with fireball, but Max came to the rescue and stabbed him hand while Rowan stabbed his side.

She reconciled with the others, told them what happened and how the Titans need a few more ingredients to make the counterspell. Max knew some kind of a device for that somewhere in Thailand but Rowan needed to go to Mt. Olympus first so together with Max, she teleported to the bar where they last met Prometheus. She went immediately to find the waitress who told her that Prometheus actually intended to help and she found out that the waitress was actually a powerful mage. She told Rowan if Prometheus refused to help, reminded him of his debt to humanity.

Then she approached him, he was now sober (probably never drunk in a first place) and asked him for his guide. It seemed that he cared enough for humanity that he was willing to help, but in exchange, he asked for the Menacing Menagerie's help for something. Then he created a portal and after she and Max passed through it, she fell, only to stop moments before she splatted, and they had arrived at the base of Mt. Olympus. At the Gate, Hermes appeared, gave them an easy riddle and a challenge to cross some rickety bridge to proof themselves to be worthy. Then, they were attacked by Echidnas (echidna was supposed to be a single being, mother of monsters, idiot. do your research!) and when they almost escaped, they were captured.

They woke up in their lair and was about to be eaten when the Menacing Menagerie came to the rescue and they knocked the Echidnas out. On the way, they met with a feline and using her Artemis' gift, Rowan asked it how to get to the Olympus and it told her how. They climbed some cliff behind a waterfall and arrived to a huge cavern where a cyclops lived. Fortunately, the cyclops were friends and they were willing to help them fought the Titans (who chained them in Tartarus) and gave them a ride to the base of the gods' castle.

They saw zeus and Prometheus decided to leave them there after he gave a middle finger to zeus. Suddenly, dragons came (Chinese dragon, Naga, Welsh dragon, Landon, etc) and they tasked before she got her final form. They told her to bring back Medusa's heads, gave them a dragon's claw, and sent her to a forest where she lived. The forest was riddled with traps and they met with a wounded Chiro (stupid) who forbid them from killing Medusa and told them how she was actually cursed by Athena because she was raped by Poseidon (seriously, it was dumb that Rowan thought Medusa was born that way-_-) so now she was determined not to kill her. Then they were trapped in a web and Arachne came, but turned out she was also not that bad and only there to protect Medusa. She refused to return to her human form but she realized that Medusa was unhappy so she planned to help them undoing Medusa's curse.

At first, Medusa was reluctant but eventually she trusted them after Rowan showed her the dragon claw, who, according to Medusa (and the stupid author) could either kill her or lift her spell, depended on the wielder. Rowan laced the claw with her spell undoing potion and stabbed Medusa with it and she returned back to a beautiful woman (HA). Max then collected her 'heads' which was basically the snakes and returned back to the dragons, who approved, and they transformed her into a dragon (lol). They returned back to the protectorate and Rowan tried to practice her new form while everyone was sleeping but two guards saw her and when she was done, everyone was watching her.

They just finished having a breakfast and it was time to meet in the Round Room. Bree said she failed to retrieve the power stone because the Titans beat her an hour before. They at least managed to gather more army and the Amazon queens came to tell them how to send the titans to Tartarus. They told Rowan to go to Hera, accompanied by her sisters and their boyfriends so Lachlan made the portal and they arrived to her settlement, away from Zeus. Hera told them to go to Cave of Treasures to retrieve some kind of device that could bind the titans' soul and when it was done, Hera would send it to Tartarus herself, but she was not willing to help, because the titans couldn't bother her in the godly realm anyway. She wouldn't even tell Rowan how to put the titans' soul inside it, saying it was her fated task and she needed to figured it out herself. But she teleported them to the nearest place to the Cave of Treasures.

A pack of wolf immediately came, but Rowan and Ana soothed them while Cade turned into an alpha wolf and they told them how to go there, meeting the skinny people. They did and they said they worshipped dragons so when Rowan turned, they were happy, especially when Rowan shot them with fire, then they showed them a machine that could fly them there. But these people asked for more dragon's fire and Rowan accidentally burnt the machines and the people, who was unharmed. They escaped and Max conjured the same machine and they flew away, joining a flock of bird, similar to the machine. But then, the monster those people warned about came.

It injured Bree, which enraged Rowan, who turned into a dragon and fried it. They landed to heal Bree and found the cave. Inside, there were treasures, but the owner, king of goblin, didn't like trespasser so he turned into land octopus and attacked them. Again, Rowan turned into a dragon and fried it, then they took the soul-trapper, which was actually a vase and returned to the Protectorate. There, everyone was preparing for a battle because the Titans had connected their spell to the power stone and it turned more goodness to darkness, and it would eventually turn every being into darkness. Everyone was there, including the amazons, cyclops, centaurs, firesouls, their boyfriends, blood sorceress, etc.

They teleported to the titan's castle and attacked them. Rowan felt the pulling of the crystals, inviting her to join the darkness but she ignore it and made a way by burning the enemy's army so her friends could pass safely while Bree and Ana attacked the titans. They sounded like a noob here, only blasted magics but no other actions. Kronos (I would call him in his rightful spell) welcomed Rowan, saying that she was the last piece but she fought it and tried to destroy the crystals but the darkness took her over instead, turning her dragon form into black.

She got the urge to burn her friends, but she fought it and instead, attacked the crystals again, which succeeded because she was full of dark magic now and she managed to destroy it. Then, she figured out how to trap the titans' soul, by absorbing all the light and dark magic together then kamehameha it to the titan, which blasted their soul away from their body, straight into the vase that Bree held. The battle quickly ended and of course, no one died. Hera came to take the soul to tartarus, and few days later, they celebrated, and Rowan graduated. (this book was so fucking bland and repetitive).

The formula holds true, of course. Our heroes set off on a major task or two (finalize Rowan’s powers; take out the Titans). They have to prove themselves worthy to various gods and other creatures. Since it’s the final book in the series heading up to a huge fight, the heroes collect new allies along the way who offer to show up to said final battle. The positive thing is that this tried-and-true Linsey Hall formula enables some great stuff. The worthiness tests allow Hall to explore an insanely wide variety of challenges, escapes, and trials that aren’t all straight-out fights. Rowan, like her sisters, gets a fun new form she can assume and gets to use that.

The one thing Rowan has had that her sisters did not (nor the Fire Souls) is her ‘darkness’ that she retained from her time being controlled by the Rebel Gods. It’s been obvious from the start that the question of how she’d deal with this darkness would be important to the finale. The problem is, the darkness has been largely abstracted. It’s a force that every now and then threatens to get free and gives Rowan a few dark thoughts. When it isn’t rumbling to get out, it’s nowhere to be seen at all. Because of this, the climactic moments in which she inevitably has to fight off the worst of the darkness are neither tense nor believable. If instead the darkness had contributed to a buildup of darker behavior and emotion on the whole, it would have been easy to buy into the idea that Rowan really was getting called to the dark side.

One of the real payoffs in this volume, of course, is the climactic battle of The Amazon sub-series. It’s a little on the short side for what I’d expect from book 30, but on a par with some of the others from other sub-series endings. It also had some lovely emotional moments and there might have been a tear or two in my eye. Just for a minute there, anyway.

This is a solid climax to the series, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Hall does next!

This was the final book in The Amazon series of the larger Dragon’s Gift series by Linsey Hall. It’s also the last series featuring the Blackwood sisters, three triplets who were destined to become dragon gods to protect the world. Rowan was the last of the sisters to receive her dragon god powers and because she was held captive and used for evil purposes for five years by the Rebel Gods she has a touch more evil in her than most. How she deals with this is a major part of the series.
The last book closed with Rowan wrapped around Maximus urging him to take her upstairs to her bedroom. This book opens making it clear to the readers that our heroine Rowan like her sisters Bree and Ana are is no longer sleeping alone. As she says, the Menacing Menagerie have been banned from her bedroom as she and Maximus have taken their relationship to the next level. If that isn’t clear enough she makes a comment later about virginity not being for her. This is as sexually graphic as this series gets so if you’re looking for more you’ll be disappointed. Ironically it isn’t until later in the story that they each share those three special words with one another. The Castle fortress of the Protectorate is surrounded by dark forces controlled by the dark magic of the Titans want Rowan. But they can’t break through the castle’s protective charms so it’s a standoff. Rowan is summoned by the two Amazon queens who tell her The Wise One, an ancient seer/oracle for the Amaons, wants and audience with her. During that audience Rowan learns she has even more dragon god powers to receive before she completes her transition to full dragon god. To do this she must complete a perilous journey to Mt. Olympus. There she meets the Council of Dragons who send her on a challenge to prove her worthiness to receive her final dragon god powers. It’s never really explained the connection between the dragons and Greek mythology. Successfully completing her challenge the dragons bestow her final power upon her. She and Maximus return to the Protectorate only to be sent on another mission to see the goddess Hera who can tell them how to return the Titans to Tartarus. Hera was one of the more amusing of all the mythological gods in any of these series. She’s a self-centered bitch but she’s amusing. Of course this involves another dangerous mission to retrieve a golden vase which can capture their souls. Rowan and her sisters and their significant others no sooner return back to the Protectorate than it’s time to go to war and end the threat of the Titans once and for all. Once again the Firesouls and all the good folks who fight on the side of good from Magic Bend show up to join the battle. So too do the Cyclops and other mythological Greek creatures who have an axe to grind with the Titans. The Amazons join the army too. Together they march on the Titan’s stronghold with Rowan and her sisters and their men spearheading the attack. Rowan as it has been fated saves the day but to do so she must battle herself and overcome her greatest fear. Then there’s the big party at the pub where Jude announces to a surprised Rowan that she has graduated the Academy and is offered a spot with her sisters working for the Paranormal Investigation Team fulfilling her greatest dream. After saving the world from this week’s greatest threat ever why she’s surprised to be told she’s completed her training is anyone’s guess? I mean with her sisters they are three of the most powerful magical beings in the world and they’ve all taken a turn saving the world from imminent doom. Rowan may be the most powerful of all.
I found this series to be a lot of fun. Lots of Greek mythology, lots of death defying challenges and battles. I wouldn’t call these series a romance but certainly romance is a part of each of the heroine’s stories. If you enjoy paranormal fantasy with lots of action and a touch of romance, especially if you are of the female persuasion since these series all feature strong, smart, independent and caring women, I think you’ll enjoy this series too.

The final showdown begins with Rowan having to learn how to gather the last of her powers

Rowan and Maximus have to travel to Mount Olympus this time to finalize Rowan's quest and get the last of her powers. They seek the help of Prometheus who is to be their guide up the mountain first they have to convince him. Rowan does and Prometheus makes his own special portal that takes them to the base of Mount Olympus. The portal journey is perilous in itself and gets them white with fear. The journey up the mountain is brought with monsters and traps and all kinds of evil that are there to protect Zeus from visitors. They are captured by the evil snakes and tied up with magical rope ready for eating. But the maniacal menacing menagerie were there too but they were made invisible by Prometheus and freed them from their bounds while one of them distracted the snakes and kept them busy elsewhere. Instead of killing the snakes because they didn't want to do that they bound them with iron shackles around their snake bodies together so it would take them a while to get loose. From there they need a cat wildcat that is who has clues on how they are to climb a unclimbable mountain.

The problem with every really great book series is that eventually it must end. It’s a problem because those addicted to the series both eagerly look forward to a grand finale and dread it at the same time. That’s certainly the case with Linsey Hall’s gloriously wonderful Dragon's Gift: The Amazon series. Rowan’s final book is now here. The silver lining to this being the end is that Power of Magic (Book 5) sends off the series in grand and extremely satisfying style. I loved everything about this book and can guarantee that my fellow series addicts will too. As for newcomers, I strongly recommend starting with book 1, warn you that you’ll become addicted too, and promise you that you’ll love it from page 1 of that first book to the last page of this one. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.

Power of Magic Linsey Hall

Wow...I'm sad, yet excited at the last book in this series which has been so much fun to read as each character intertwines and expands into its own series until Linsey has covered everyone in a unique style of writing. She expanded the story with detail, and cross integration of prior books, and did it in such a way as to make it feel natural...almost normal, and that's quite an achievement.

I won't do a normal review of this last book of Rowan-the Dragon God. Nor will I give details since any would be spoilers assuming we've read all the other books. Most of us probably wrote the ending in our minds...in our own way I think. But the way she brought it to a conclusion, was very surprising, and on pathways, I did not expect. That's why I found it such a great conclusion because she keeps you guessing right to the last beer, and that's Linsey Hall's Gift. If you have read the rest of the books leading to the Dragon's Gift Series, you can't miss the finish.

What a book!

Devastated that this is the end of the series, what a finale though. At times the tension ran so high I found my muscles had clenched, other times I found myself longing to see Rowan have the love she felt being acknowledged
I'd recommend reading this book but also the series starting with Nix, Del and Cass as it helps in the end to understand how everyone fits together ❤
Just like it was hard to leave those girls ( Nix, Del and Cass) I'm really going to miss Rowan and her sister's, I do love how they'd featured in the adventures of the earlier series and had a chance to equally have their own personalities, their own magic and adventures explored fully
Thank you Linsey Hall for many hours of escape from my life as a wheelchair user and my ptsd, anxiety, depression and my life as an unhappy amputee, you give me so much happiness in your skills as an author

Power of Magic is powerful

Rowan’s story is as excellent as the rest of Linsey’s tales
I am now going to be a little philosophical, so if you are reading this and are bored by philosophy, stop reading
Plus a little spoiler alert
Good and bad mixing to become a powerful advocate for good has been implemented across history.
The history taught in schools does not go into how horrible war is and what decisions and act are committed to win.
Once you win, you typically make yourself out to be the good guys.
I believe the USA tries to act with good, yet the USA has done “bad” things to stay strong and protect itself - this is why many countries and people vilify the USA.
My take away from the story is that is up to individuals to choose good and decency; I hope and pray that good and decency on a personal level is the same across all peoples!

I can’t believe we are at the end of this long-running series! This is Rowan’s last book and the last sister to be written about. As per usual, we jump right into the action at the beginning and it never lets go. Rowan gets her last power in this one (of course!), and it is a doozy (loved it)! This book follows the same formula that the others did, and it kept my attention from the opening page until the last. If you loved the other books, you will enjoy this. Don’t start at this one, however; start the series at the very beginning. I really recommend this series if you like fast-action, clean (maybe one or two curse words in the whole book) urban fantasy! I was provided an e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

There is a line in the book that had tears of laughter rolling down my face when I least expected it and for that I had to give it 5 stars. Prometheus is one of my favourite characters and this incident is one the reason why. I truly hope he pops up again in another series!

The line is 'Maximus was white as a sheet and an enormous inflatable mattress sat next to him'.

Those who have read this book will understand and I hope they too were brought to laughter by it.

Great writing as usual and I must add that I love the writers notes at the end, they have actually made history a little more interesting to me and keen to visit some of the places mentioned.

Am I done??

My inner completionist really hopes I am. For all my love of Hall's ability to keep the pacing moving at a clipping rate and how she can make fresh adventures come out of the woodwork, I don't dare skip my usual acknowledgement that she's also terrible about recycling everything from story to phrasing and description, which drives me bonkers. I thank Hall for the months of entertainment I've gotten out of reading these 15 books, but I'm about ready to part ways for quite a while at this point.

Awesomesauce!!!

The final installment of Rowen's story and what a story it has been, after reading all about her sisters, Bree and Ana's lives and the things that we've learnt about Rowen throughout their books I was very excited to read the full story about her, and as usual Linsey didn't disappoint.
Full of all sorts of different supernatural powers and kick ass adventure and evil demons and evil humans and of course the gods of myth and legend to fight against, I have to say I have loved it all. I strongly recommend you read them all. Thanks Linsey.

3 words for this final book to the Dragon Gift/Gods series "Hell- F**king- Yes!" For some reason I was looking forward to Rowans story the most and I was totally not disappointed! The whole Dragons Gift series so far I was waiting for someone to be able to shift into a actual dragon, and for it to be Rowan with what she's been through and had done to her and overcome I think it's a totally fit ending to the DG series.
Also I totally LOVE Greek mythology so for her to have that as a pantheon as well was totally awesome!!!

2.5 stars. I read these all back to back while not feeling well so one review and one rating for all.

Why 2.5? Man, I get that these stories are hero quests but, come on, this was just one challenge after another and another after another after another. The love interest had no drama - basically a nice hottie which is fine but not very interesting.

There are more books in the overall world that Hall has created but I'll be taking a break for now. Maybe they'll be more refreshing after a step away.

Like all the rest in this series I really enjoyed this. The characters are fun and quirky and the plot is engaging and interesting. As always, my favourite part of these series is the mythological element - I love love love how historically accurate the creatures and people are. That all said, I am looking forward to a new series with new people as a focus. Will I loved Ana, Bree, and Rowan, I feel like I know them so well now that I'm eager to see someone else within this world.

Amazing conclusion!

Rowan had to take almost nonstop quests and journeys in this book to complete her dragon god and to establish the means to defeat the Titans. I have to say that I love that the author didn't gloss over the horrible things Greek deities are said to have done. They could be immensely kind and generous and other times horrible and viscous. It's also nice to see Hera better off than in the myths.

So Happy yet Sad!

I have loved each series in Linsey Hall’s Dragon Gift!

But Power of Magic, book 5, captured the entire series with it’s loyalty, laughter, and love.

Watching Rowena take on her challenge of finding her god powers was thrilling, with lots of action and feelings of joy, through her loving relationships and loyal friends.

Saying goodbye to these characters is a bit heartbreaking!

Action packed

From the very beginning the action starts and doesn’t let up, right up to the grande finale battle. Rowan faces many challenges in this book and really has to stretch herself and face her fears to get through it all and become successful in her quests. I have really enjoyed Rowan’s character. She is like the little engine that could. “I think I can, I think I can . . .” Positive thinking really brings her through her biggest challenge. A good lesson for us all.

Great series

I chose 5 stars because the book is well-written, interesting, and a great read! If you like paranormal/fantasy type books with twists, adventure, and great characters then this is a great choice. I read the related series which made it even more interesting because you get to see what everyone is up to. Lindsey Hall has become one of my favorite authors, and I have enjoyed every book I've read of hers!

Fantastic story. The best one yet. So many wonderful characters. Rowan faces many choices throughout. Her sisters, the men, and the all the greats from Magic Bend provide great support. Lots of unexpected twists. I sincerely hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

I received a copy of this book as a gift. I am leaving my honest review.

Rowan’s quest came to an end with an adventure full of challenges, an epic fight and her new power. The interesting challenges and the problem-solving process that Rowan and Maximus had to face caught my attention. Liked that the action was maintained all the time keeping me entertained with the twists, the magic and the suspense.

Titan Trouble

Rowan has to beat the three escaped Titans and get them back to Tartarus. All in a day's work, right? NOT!!! There are more take to complete to attain full Dragon God status. She still has the darkness inside her, and she has to find her balance before the Titans make the whole world into worshippers.

Loved it

What a great series. I so enjoy being immersed in multi book worlds. This one has been a special favourite. The historical points add an extra level of fascination into the stories and is what I like the most about the books. That I am an anthropologist doesn't make that much of a surprise. Thank you
