Cressida Frost is in a bind. The home and business she shares with her sisters are in jeopardy as the landlord threatens to sell the property out from under them. Her only hope is to win a four million dollar treasure hunt prize, buy the house, and save Frost Fandoms Bookstore and Collectible Shop. The only hitch in her plan: as an agoraphobic, the thought of traveling across multiple states to find the prize is more than daunting.
Noah Sukarno is in over his head. When trouble arrives on his doorstep and threatens his family, he knows he has to win the treasure hunt prize. He and Cressida have known each other for years through the contest fan boards, and he knows she is closer than anyone else to finding the treasure. However, his brilliant plan to volunteer to help her to get closer to the prize may just blow up in his face.
Agreeing to travel together in an RV painted to look like the TARDIS, Cressida and Noah both have a lot riding on finding the treasure. Working together to overcome her panic attacks and his sense of impending doom, they realize that the biggest risk may be to their hearts. Will mistrust and betrayal tear them apart, or will love prove to be “bigger on the inside?”

The only reason this book got 2 stars was for Cressida. She's a gem and I did think the idea of this book was quite fun. But man, Noah is a sack of garbage. To give you some idea of how much he sucked, let's talk about the part in the book where someone literally threatens to rape Cressida in front of Noah, but he still doesn't have the decency to tell her who that guy was and give her a heads to protect herself in the future. I'm so furious about that. What a scumbag. This book didn't suffer from miscommunication, rather, it suffered from Noah not communicating to her at all and showing her so much disrespect. All from something that literally could have been avoided from the beginning of the book. The second this plot point came into play I thought of the solution that ended up happening. I'm just so frustrated. I'm thinking maybe I wont continue on with this series and just reread the first 3 since they have been the only good ones in the series so far.
Cressida Frost can't lose her home and her family's books and collectibles shop and it's more than just not wanting to move -- Cressida is agoraphobic and her home is the only place she truly feels safe. Winning the famous treasure hunt she's been working on for over a year would mean she could buy their house but in order to find it she'll need to go outside. I loved the set up for PLAYING DOCTOR and I've been waiting for Cressida's story forever!
Cressida is sweet and innocent in a lot of ways but she's also seen the darker part of life, so she knows how everything can change in an instant. While Cressida might be sweet she's also not afraid to speak her mind and I loved seeing her take agency over her sex life and claim the adventure she's always wanted to go on. There's something so genuine about Cressida and you know that what you see is what you get. Over the past year, Cressida has been working on the treasure hunt with another forum member, Noah, and while she's developed a crush she never expects anything to come of it. But when Noah shows up proposing they go after the treasure she seizes the moment.
Every day Noah looks forward to talking to Cressida but when he meets her in person he's floored at how beautiful she is. I loved how Noah always supported Cressida and believed in her ability to conquer parts of her agoraphobia. Noah makes some mistakes along the way and keeps secrets that he probably shouldn't have, but overall I really liked him as a hero. I can't really fault him for his decisions because he's doing everything in an attempt to protect his family. Noah's also not afraid to fix his mistakes and admit when he's wrong and that's always a trait I appreciate.
With some laugh out loud moments and a perfectly nerdy romance these two are certainly in my top couples from this series.
Content Warning: Cressida has agoraphobia and panic attacks
I love the fandom hearts series because it´s about women who like cosplaying, gaming, tv shows! I love the dedication to fandoms, and I love how the female main characters are described as passionate, sexy, feminine and strong women.
I was a bit scared of going into this book because Cressida is a very special lady to me. She has mental problems and is afraid of the world outside, and I had this fear "Will the author be fair to Cressida and the people who are like Cressida?" I think the author did a great job.
“I started watching Doctor Who when I was around twelve years old,” Cressida said. “For someone whose whole life revolved around fear, The Doctor was someone I wanted to be. He traveled where he wanted, to whatever time period or planet or whatever he wanted, and he always had his home with him… the TARDIS. ‘Bigger on the inside,’ as he says. He brought his safe zone with him.” She smiled. “Kyla had me in mind when they repainted the RV to look like the TARDIS. It’s my safe zone. And it’s what’s going to let me go on adventures and travel where I want.”
Cressida has had a growth journey via the other books in the series and for her to find a new safe space in her friend´s RV is a huge step for her. But she hasn´t gone that far away in the RV, and it´s always complicated for her. When her house is in danger of being sold, she is desperate to find a treasure she´s been hunting along with other fans of author Henry Curton, who has hidden it somewhere. Via the treasure hunt board she has met Noah, and when Cressida figure out a clue to the treasure whereabouts, it turns out they are as near as they possibly can be. Will Cressida be brave and cross the country to find the treasure?
Just ok. Cressida a fun character. Noah--meh. Would have been much better if Yardley focused on the quest, threw in a few more challenges, and didn't repeatedly restate things already clear--Cressida's agoraphobia, Noah's subterfuge, the treasure, the treasure, the treasure. Got it these the first, two three, four times. Move the story forward. Focus on the fun like the first few books in this series. My advice to Ms. Yardley: Fun concept but re-edit this one.
When I first saw that cover I thought "Oh my God, is that about Doctor Who?". And yes, it was and I was so happy. Doctor Who is a tv show that I absolutely love and get really really happy when I find references in the romances I read. The story is not about Doctor Who, but it features a main character that is a fan of the show. There are other fandom references through the story as well. And Cressida's agoraphobia and her struggle was really well explained. The romance and hot scenes were great as well.
Cressida has been agoraphobic for years, but she has her safe place in her house and she's been taking baby steps venturing outside the house in a friend's RV. The only problem is that the landlord wants to sell the house and unless Cressida and her sisters can come up with the money fast, they will have to move. Cressida will have to brave leaving the house in order to save it. She thinks she knows where she can find a hidden treasure that one of her favorite authors left as a treat to his fans. Now all Cressida needs is someone to drive her and the RV across several states to find this treasure.
Noah has been a fan of Cressida and the treasure hunt for years. He spends his free time looking for the treasure. All that money could fund schooling for him to be a doctor and take some of the pressure off his hard-working immigrant mother. Nobody has gotten closer to finding the treasure than Cressida. Noah has always wanted to meet her but never took action until the son of the famous author threatens to report Noah's mother to ICE. Noah will put everything aside to save his mother and will say anything and do anything to get Cressida to help him find the treasure. They plan to split it 50/50, but with both keeping secrets from the other, their tenuous trust might not last long enough to see the payout.
Every time I read a book by Yardley, I seem to finish the book in one sitting and wish that I had more of her books to read. The Fandom Hearts series is especially a series I love to read because it's set locally, the characters are full of personality, and the stories are larger than life.
I loved Cressida's story in this book, as well as Noah's story. They are both diverse characters. Cressida is agoraphobic and Noah is the son of an immigrant. I loved that I got to see the difficulties that mental illness and immigration play in this story. I think Yardley did justice to her characters and their backgrounds.
The treasure hunt aspect gave me Déjà vu. Was I reading about Ready, Player, One's author Ernest Cline and his treasure hunt for the DeLorean? I laughed when Yardley mentioned this specific treasure hunt in the book.
The story was captivating, the characters were delightfully diverse and developed, and the writing style was flawless. I can't wait for the next Fandom Hearts book if there is one!
This book had some good points- the pacing is great, and Cressida is a gem.
But OMFG, who the fudge finds out their MOTHER is in freaking ICE DETENTION because of some dude blackmailing YOU, and is still functional enough to be having sex (and not telling anyone about the blackmailing and the mom in detention) and then searching around the desert and then a whole lot of other nonsense...
And then we never really find out what happens to his mother, how long she's detained for, how they finally get her out ... nothing. No follow up on that, and there is NO freaking way that was an easy or non-traumitizing thing for the poor woman to go through.
Like, I love a good treasure hunt/quest, but seriously, What. The. Eff. How do you have so little empathy for a parent it's made clear you're close to that your first instinct upon hearing they've been falsely imprisoned isn't to AT THE LEAST make some phone calls and get support in place.
Also... like none of that is how green cards or immigration enforcement works. At all. But the lack of realistic emotional response was the bigger hurdle.
Cressida is just so sweet and so innocent....smart? Eck, Sure. She took a risk to do the road trip with a guy she barely knows in real life. They managed to keep in touch on-line...let’s say they are long distance pen pals! Right? WHAT’S MY POINT HERE? It’s all fantasy and must go over the hump of meeting someone on-line isn’t awful...I mean, just think about Tinder...With that said, Cressida took a risk, a leap of hope and getting that treasure with a little help will come a long way. Cressida and Noah has a special kind of love & I dig how Cathy Yardley wrote the characters, how “trust” is important in any type of relationship- whether it’s among family, friends, or more. I like the twists and turns of this storyline. It’s a 5 stars for me!
I’ve been looking forward to this book for years. I love the respect and understanding Cressida’s friends have for her illness. Noah was just as respectful and not pitying. I in no way assume that Cressida’s experience is representative of all people who live with agoraphobia but I’m all for having more characters who are loving full lives while afflicted with mental health challenges.
This book wasn’t perfect, but it was a fun, well crafted story with interesting characters. I think a reread of the whole series is in order! It can be a stand alone but it’s more fun to have all the background.
I liked this one! We finally got Cressida's back story, and its got tragic. Noah was...not bad, but still not my favorite of the men these girls have picked up (I NEED MORE JERICHO).
But it gets extra bonus star.for the NPS shout out! Woo woo. But plot fail because NPS rangers are ALSO first responders who would have been better trained on what to do in Cress's situation. And there would have been two of them.
Unless he was an interpreter, but he probably wouldn't have been in the field that way if he was.

Oh man I really REALLY wanted to enjoy this book, but if 'friends to lovers' is my catnip, then 'guy lying about something but still having sex with the person he's lying to' is my kryptonite. I hate it so much, it gives me the heebie jeebies and honestly has ruined a ton of romance books for me.
I'll still read the rest of the books in this series but this one just grossed me out (sadly)

Another amazing book in the series! I loved reading about Cressida and her overcoming some Of her fears. Add mystery and a treasure hunt and you have a 5 star tale!
Cressida Frost’s home and business is in jeopardy. Her landlord has decided to sell the house and has given them only a few weeks to find the money to buy it. Cressida knows only one way to get the money in time, win the four million dollar treasure hunt that a famous author is hosting. There is only one major hitch in this plan, she is agoraphobic and can’t drive.
I really enjoyed this one. Cressida is a sweet and innocent woman who had a dark childhood. Now she is determined to save her home and business even if it means she has to go outside. I loved her determination to help even knowing she was most likely going to have multiple panic attacks. Her relationship with Noah started online but she has slowly fallen in love with him without ever seeing or meeting him. Their relationship was just so sweet, even when Noah makes mistakes.
Noah was a super supportive man. I loved how accepting he was of Cressida’s phobia. He went out of his way to do whatever would help her get through the situation. Even after he messes up, he still puts her first and that made him a great hero in my opinion.
This was a perfectly cute nerdy romance. I loved all the Doctor Who references and the treasure hunt based on a book.
The plot of this could have been really interesting and cute. However, it was a bit...unrealistic. The landlords selling a house but refusing to let certain individuals buy it due to their profession (actors) despite the fact that they could pay beyond what they're asking? Not realistic. The writing style is a bit off, for me. I don't know how to describe it. It feels disconnected, I don't really get to feel what the characters are feeling. That's the best way I can describe it: Disconnected. And the disconnection is making it not fun for me to read, I'm not feeling the emotions with the characters--I'm just watching everything. Great detail is written, it's writing about the emotions that's not there. There were a few panic attacks experienced by the h, I've had panic attacks so usually when they're written I can almost feel them 2nd hand...not this time. I felt nothing. I read to feel...so I DNF'd this at over 50%. It's well written in every sense other than there is very little emotion, in my opinion.
I have some mixed feelings about this instalment. On one hand, Cressida was awesome, and the RV trip was a unique take on the standard forced proximity romance trope. And Noah was... let's say I 100% understand why he made the choices he did, given his background, upbringing and everything that was at stake for him.
On the other... I would have SO loved to see the two of them working together as a team to overcome Killian, rather than spending the entire book with goals that are effectively at odds with each other - and, particularly, with Cressida being totally unaware of those odds.
I think that's my biggest gripe: that yes, we got to see Cressida as a smart but incredibly innocent FMC, which might be realistic, but it's not the only way her character could have developed, and I feel like there was so much more potential for her to have more agency.
But, that said, I still enjoyed the way the book played out, and I'm really looking forward to the final book in the series: Rachel and Ren's story.
I think plot wise this is the best book of the series. Cressida has been following a treasure hunt online, and within their community she's one of the best people who have analyzed clues so far. When the Frost family is about to get evicted she's decides to follow her latest discovery and claim the treasure for herself. As she never got her license, fellow Wastelander Noah (whom she has been crushing on for well over a year) joins her for this adventure, but he has his own motifs.
Splitting the party is always a bad idea. It was naive of Cress to go on this hunt with a near stranger, and he is delusional for thinking that she would simply forgive him and better yet, be grateful . I liked that in the end he asked himself "what would Cress do", underlining that he considers her the smartest person he knows, but I don't like him. I'm glad this book brought us back to geeky references though, I was missing those in the previous ones.
3 solid stars. I really liked the protagonists - they were quirky and sweet and completely likable. But... there was a big flaw in the story line. If the author's son was threatening the H and the H had contact info for the author, wouldn't he just contact him immediately? Of course if he did that logical thing, we wouldn't have much of a plot. But it's not much of a plot if it's held up by such a weak premise.
However, I do enjoy treasure hunts and sweet, gentle geeks so I enjoyed the book.
Cover: Probably the best of the bunch so far. Narrators: Same. Hogwarts Sorting Hat: I think Cressida is a Ravenclaw and Noah is a Hufflepuff.
Another good book in the Fandom Hearts series. I loved Cressida's story, and getting more info about her background. Noah just seemed cheesy. Like, he was a great guy, good friend in the beginning, but then started throwing around the words, "Baby" and, "Sweetie" when speaking with Cressida and it just made me cringe. Also, I just didn't see why he wasn't more straight forward with Cressida about his situation from the beginning.
That said, I loved the treasure hunt, and the pace of Noah and Cressida's relationship. A good, quick read.
This book really did need editing. Some words were obviously wrong and made technical problems. The story plays out almost exactly as you would expect from nearly the first 10%. You can see the train wreck coming on. It’s only because I’m so into the series that I continued with it. I appreciate the formula of a romance book but I don’t want to have it be 100% predictable. That’s why I stopped reading cosies. Too predictable. Sadly this one is missing the emotional connection to the MC too. But it gets this many stars for the handing of agoraphobia.
I just love this series so much! I will say, the plot of this was so ridiculously far fetched but I just LOVED the romance so much. And the Doctor Who references and the way the main character described how DW helped her with her panic attacks and anxiety resonated with me very personally. So suspension of disbelief aside I am so glad I got some more swoon worthy romance from Cathy Yardley. My queen of smut haha.
I've been looking forward to this story. I knew much suspension of disbelief would most likely be necessary for this story. I feel like Yardley did a good job of putting pressure to make things happen but I feel like with agoraphobia that pressure would have caused a shut down instead of an adventure. Obviously that doesn't make for good romance. That being said, I enjoyed the final chapter for this series and loved getting to know these lovely nerds along the way!
I enjoyed this book as much as the previous ones in the series. However, with the progression of each book, the editing became worse and worse. Among the typos, there was a point where the main characters had the same revelation in two different scenes. A good beta reader should have pointed that out. I'm still enough of a fan to continue with the series and am looking forward to other books by the author.
I have really enjoyed this series. My favorite will always be Game of Hearts, but I did always wonder how Cressida's story would play out, being agoraphobic. I think I'd have liked this book to be a little longer; an awful lot was packed into the last few pages. However, the universe is so charming and this couple was very cute, so I'm feeling generous.
