The past has come to haunt Detective Virginia Holmes as the infamous Scarecrow Killer strikes again ... and this time, Holmes is the victim! With poison running through her body and only hours to live, she'll need to employ every trick in the book if she wants to solve this case!
Terrific. A plot about a serial killer and a detective with just hours to live that has to apprehend the killer. Wonderful growth in the characters with Sam growing stronger with each book. Loved the pizza dough imagery. Their flight back should have been routine if Virginia hadn't been scratched with poison. Own the serial has informed her and the security team at the airport that no-one is allowed in or out, that she has 4 hours to live, that there are 2 bombs scheduled to go off (if they don't follow instructions) and that there is an antidote if she can win the game. Throw in a bomb going off, Sam's interference with the killer's plans, a dead body and a blustering Sheriff. Can they find the killer? After all 4 previous suspects are here. Will they get the antidote in time? Will Sam's aim ever improve?
I read this as part of the Complete Virginia Holmes Cozy Mysteries.
This entire story takes place in the airport after Holmes and Fox return from Iceland. Holmes is poisoned by an old nemesis and has only four hours to find him and the antidote or die. Fox really comes into her own in this story. She has a bigger part and has become braver and more of a ‘think outside the box’ person, just as Holmes is. There is lots of excitement, red herrings, and chaos. In the end, the killer is caught (duhhh).
Some editing errors, minor words left out, incomplete sentences (i.e. “I saw what your little stunt in the Dragon Palace auction hall.” Not enough to ruin the storyline.
Don't understand why there are so many bad reviews on this series". I loved this one and every one. I finished this book in one day! I couldn't put it down! I stared with The Fillmore and read them one right after the other! Absolutely love the Virginia Holmes series. She's mart, cagey and no nonsense! Love that she is able to put superiors in their place. These books kept me guessing from beginning to end.
Interesting serial killer story. A very challenging villain, chaos and disasters, all stuck in an airport. The experienced detective and her side-kick struggle through the clues and past murders with a short end time!! I was both amused and caught by all the analysis needed to catch a so-far successful killer. Of course it ends well. Pizza dough-? Whatever works! Recommended for an afternoon read.
This book was a real nail biter! It is filled with action and suspense. So far, this is my favourite of the Virginia Holmes mysteries. These books just keep getting better.
This was a great mystery, more than a cozy mystery. It was nice to finally be introduced to Virginia Holmes Nemesis the Scarecrow. Was pleased with the ending.
