The deal: 1) Assist the FBI to catch the underworld eGaming kingpin (doable but dangerous). 2) Keep the FBI connection secret by pretending to date Noah (not optional but keeping it PG is problematic).

OFF HER GAME (The Game Lords Book 1) by Zoe Forward is the first book in a new romantic suspense series set in the unique world of on-line gaming. The suspense plot was very intriguing and keeps the pages turning. The romance has a gamer nerd turned hot hunk game creator, rich CEO still being a nerd in personal situations in a fake relationship with a feisty, sexy female gamer, game creator.

Tori Duarte is ranked as one of the top female gamers in the country. She attended MIT, she can program and code and she has a video game she is trying to sell. She also has a big chip on her shoulder because of the gender bias in the gaming world. When she needs help with money, she gets involved in a secretive on-line video gambling ring called the Stadium. The game is rigged and she just keeps getting further and further in debt.

CEO Noah Harrison is co-owner of a major gaming company. He is set up on a chance meeting with Tori. He lost his brother to the Stadium and is now helping with an FBI sting. He wants Tori’s help to stop them from killing more people and bring them to justice. They will pretend to date to cover for the FBI.

Tori and Noah play at dating, but with the sparks flying between them, could this lead to more? As they are caught up with this dangerous cyber-criminal, the stakes continue to rise. Can Tori get out of the Stadium to have a real relationship?

Tori and Noah were an interesting pairing. The shy CEO who is inept with women, but can sure turn it on and take control during sex with the snarky, but insecure gamer girl. When they were together it was really hot, but I felt the author pulled them apart too frequently. There was too much insecurity coming from such a supposedly smart and talented heroine. The sex scenes were explicit, but not over the top. All of the secondary characters were well fleshed out and I am looking forward to seeing how the author continues on with their stories, also. I did like the twist during a very well written suspense plot when the heroine faced the kingpin without the hero at her side. Overall, I loved the suspense plot and that the Stadium plot will arc over future books with this book having a complete HEA romance.

I can recommend this first book in this new series and I am looking forward to reading more.

Let me start this review with saying this is the first book I have read by this author and it will not be the last. I loved every moment of this story and it had me on the edge of my seat because of the suspense and then the chemistry between these two is off the chain and there is no denying it. No matter how hard they tried to keep it professional it was inevitable that these two were going to become a couple. I also loved the video game aspect of the story. I am a video gamer player and I love watching my children play so this was like watching my children play video games.

Tori is a video game designer and she is trying to design the one to make it big when things fall through and she decides that she will go into the dark web and play online in a secret gamer room but she ends up adding up her debt instead of making money she is losing big time. She is getting deeper and deeper in debt when she meets the shy video game CEO Noah.

Noah meets Tori and knows he can help her out of debt but he also knows what he will ask her is risky and is not sure she will do it. But Noah asks her anyways and when she agrees he is excited because he wants to take down the egammer kingpin that hides in secret but destroys everything he has worked so hard for. As they try and get the secret online egammer their chemistry ignites and the two of them are beginning to have feelings for one another neither one can fight.

What will happen to Tori and Noah? Will they catch the egammer?

This book is all over the place, it’s suspense, thriller, mystery, romance, gamelit and all geek.

Quan typed what read as a bunch of gibberish. She knew a lot about computers and technical jargon, but this wasn’t English. “What language is that?” “Elvin language. No universal translator for it. The serious Tolkeinites memorized it to talk on this forum.”

After

Even though this is such a mish mash of genre’s I enjoyed it 3 ½ stars.

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This is the first book that i have read by this author and i can say that i was pleasantly surprised by this book.

Noah Harrison is the CEO of a video game company, but is very shy and keeps out of the media, letting his work partner Jake handle all of the press.

Tori Duarte is a gaming fanatic and plays as two characters and has managed to find herself in the underworld gaming scene and trying to get out unsuccessfully. It is meeting Noah at a jail that changes both of their lives forever as their pasts and their presents collide so that they both need to help each other out, however a fake relationship soon turns into something more.

Tori is very smart and has a loving sister and a great group of friends around her to help her out as she navigates her way into helping not only the FBI catch the bad guy, but to also get her own video game out into the big wide world thanks to Noah's companies help.

I really enjoyed the story line and the characters and found them very relatable.

Off Her Game by Zoe Forward is the first book in her new Game Lords series. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading this series, as it was a different type of read from what I was used to with Zoe Forward. I am happy to say that I really enjoyed this book.

Tori Duarte, our heroine, is one of the best elite gamers, which is especially unique for a female. Tori also designs video games, hoping to sell them to make money to pay off her debts, which forces her to be involved with a secret gambling ring.

Noah Harrison, our hero, is the CEO and co owner of a game company, known to many as Game Lords. Noah, is a wealthy and handsome bachelor, who is an introvert and shy around women and media. But when he meets Tori, he finds himself very attracted to the badass gamer. But Noah and his partner have agreed to help the FBI find out who is behind the secret gambling ring that is murdering people who worked for them, especially since one of the victims was their brother.

Tori is pulled into the FBI sting, since she needs money, and also knows she too is in danger. Noah will join hands with Tori to pretend to be dating, which draws the attention of the evil gaming kingpin. During their adventure, they will both begin to fall in love with each other, though Tori cannot believe that Noah could possibly care about a girl like her. There chemistry was very steamy.

What follows is an exciting, suspenseful and fun story. I am amazed how well Zoe Forward described the gaming industry, giving us a wonderful insight to that industry. I loved Tori and Noah together, and Forward also created some very good secondary characters; such as Emma, Jake, Quan, Sam. I expect to see more of them in the future books. Off Her Game was a fast-paced, fun enjoyable story; wonderful couple, great secondary characters, as well as filled with excitement and suspense. Great start to this new series, which I intend to continue reading.

I’m not a fan of third person books, I honestly don’t like them at all. I put those feelings aside, and read the book. I’m glad I did. I will definitely be reading more of her books!

I did love that she was a female gamer, because really we don’t usually see that! I love that Noah and Tori actually meet in jail.

This book is a series and will leave you wanting more!! I mean a hot CEO, and a female gaming developer and player, what’s not to like? An underground gaming ring, I’m not sure those really exist but definitely original!!

I would definitely recommend reading!

I really surprisingly enjoyed this story! I say surprisingly because I don’t know anything about gaming. I pleasantly and quickly found gaming knowledge wasn’t necessary. Off Her Game Is a romantic, suspenseful, well written, enjoyable read. This author is new to me and will definitely be added to my list of authors to follow.
Tori Duarte A.K.A. Selene is part of a team of well know gamers, famous for their gaming skills. Being one of the few women in the gaming world she has had to fight to be taken seriously in the predominately men’s gaming world. If she wants her programming skills and designs to be recognized she needs to prove she has what it takes. Unfortunately, that’s lead her down a dark path to the underground gaming world and to owing money to the mysterious Symphis.
Noah is the official ‘Game Lord’ having become rich from his famous game designs. Noah is a gorgeous hunk who is too nerdy to see what he has to offer and too tongue tied to be able to engage with women. Yet, for some reason being with Tori feels like home, he can be himself, talk without tripping. In fact, with Tori, he finds he is a very successful dirty talker.
“The tattoo on your thigh makes me want to tear off your thong and press my tongue against the dragon’s flame. Then I can show you want real fire feels like.”
Noah lost his brother to the underground gaming world and is working with the FBI to take down Symphis. They bring in Tori to aide in their quest. To make the connection believable, they pretend to date. If only it was pretend. These two are scorching hot!
Symphis begins making high demands on Tori. He displays in frightening ways that he knows her every move and can easily hurt those she cares about. Those demands will definitely hurt Noah and all he has built. Worried for her life and those she cares about, Tori questions which way to turn. Will everything be lost before it got good??
A definite must read!

This book wasn't bad and it wasn't great either. There was just something that was missing from it for me,I haven't quite put my finger on what it was but something just wasn't there. I loved the suspense aspect of the book. I am always a fan of books that have a bit of suspense. I also felt that the book ended a bit abruptly, I am not sure if she is writing more in this series but it sure feels like there should be more to this story.

Zoe Forward, ‘Off her Game’, The Game Lords series, book 1.

As a Hidden Gem ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is.

English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.

Rating: 4,5 stars (of 5).

In general: Nice love and suspenseful crime in the world of gamers.

Main characters:
- Tori Duarte.
She is a computer geek (very talented girl-gamer, in a world dominated by men). Playing for the WorldGaming Championship in Washington DC. She’s in a trio with Alex and Quan: the Dynasty Team. She’s also a game designer.

- Noah Harrison.
Co-owner (‘Game Lord’) of a very succesful media company, designer of famous games as Zoneworld. Tori’s sister Emma is his PA.

Tori and Noah meet in a police station. Both arrested during a police raid in an illegal gambling place of the underworld gaming scene. Tori visited this place to gamble for she needed money to pay her gambling debts. Noah looked at the underworld gambling scene to learn more about this world using some games of his firm.
In the middle of the night Tori and Noah are bailed out by Emma so they can leave the police-station. Without concrete prove for their illegal gambling the charges are dropped.
Tori and Noah meet again when Tori is gaming in a tournament, sponsored by Noah’s firm. Meeting him while playing, distracts her. She messes up the game and wins no money. So she stays financially vulnerable. Noah - with help from the FBI - wants Tori to infiltrate the criminal, illegal gambling organisation, which killed his brother. If Tori agrees she’ll get free of the illegal gaming.
This is the start of a suspenseful investigation. During the adventure Tori and Noah meet regurlarly and step by step they fall in love. The author, Zoe Forward, gives a nice and credible desription of the developments in their relationship. The dialogues are often funny and/or sassy. And a lot of info about the gaming world: the tournaments, the games and it’s designers and players.
A page turner, interesting to read. The story ends with a kind of cliffhanger, so this reader is looking forward to book 2 of the Game Lords series.

This is book one of the Game Lords Series. This explains the ending, because the ending definitely hinted the book HAS NOT ENDED YET and left me wanted for ANSWERS.  This is a sizzling hot contemporary romance book just so you know so lets keep it PG-13 :).

Lets talk about character first, I love Tori maybe its the #innerfeminist but i love the fact that she is the brainy one the smart one that even the FBI asked for her help :D!  Not to mention the video game she created was awesome and the biggest gaming company out there wanted her game. I'm so proud of her, you go girl!

The plot ( surprisingly ) was not predictable at all! There's a cliffhanger at the end which left me guessing ( i have my suspicions but I'm not sure!). The plot flowed easily, does not feel dragged nor too fast. I finished reading the whole book within a day. This novel took me diving into the gaming world, as I dont game at all it taught me a lot about the gaming world and i find this experience a lot of fun. I learnt a lot of stuff about gaming from reading this book its a whole new world out there. The story plot is a fine dose of suspense so don't worry it is definitely not all romance and gaming in there and there are enough suspense to keep you going.

*sees the rating*

you'd probably think: hey I thought you enjoyed this book! Why don't you give it a higher rating? well there are two parts. 1. some scenes were a bit too heated for me (call me conservative I don't care that's my opinion) 2. something was missing that I can't put my finger on it just didn't get me "hooked" to give it a higher rating. So basically the cons are all my problem LOL so if you don't mind the points I just said. Go ahead! Read this book, it wont disappoint its a very nice and enjoyable read. but not lighthearted haha NONONO.

final rating: ★★★★

This is a fast paced, interesting book featuring female gamer and developer Tori who got mixed up in an underground gaming gambling ring called the Stadium.

The Stadium is controlled by Symphis, who is ruthless and manipulates gamers, hackers, and coders to get anything he wants. People are beginning to turn up dead because of the Stadium, which brings CEO and gaming developer Noah Harrison into the mix. Noah's brother was murdered because of the Stadium so he wants to shut it down.

Both Tori and Noah start working with the FBI to infiltrate and bring down the Stadium. They use the guise of a relationship to keep suspicion low, but things quickly get real for both of them.

Tori is a strong heroine who fights to show her independence in the male dominated world of gaming.

The story is different and interesting. I think non-gamers can easily follow.

I gave the book four stars instead of five because Tori seems wishy washy to me. One minute she will adore Noah and the next she will want nothing to do with him. He is such a good guy but is socially awkward and sometimes says the wrong thing. She. doesn't understand that and her behavior was really ticking me off at times.

The book closes part of the storyline but leaves a cliffhanger that will have to resolve in further books. I wouldn't consider it a standalone.

I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy via Hidden Gems.

Zoe Forward is a new to me author, and I really did enjoy Off Her Game quite a bit, as it was an original story about the gaming world. It all started with Tori Duarte had to be bailed out of jail, but while she was doing so, she met this cool dude that she really enjoyed talking to who understood her and was hot as well, which wasn't something that she came across in her world. As she left with her sister, she comes to find out that he is rich, video game CEO, Noah Harrison, who her sister works for. After that night, she doesn't think she will see him again, however, it turns out that he needs her help to bust the underground betting ring that she's already involved in, and she has to keep the FBI involvement secret by pretend dating Noah on top of it. This is where it all gets dicey, because see these two have a serious chemistry, and while she's hell on wheels, he's shy as all get out, so how do they keep from getting in too deep? Not to mention there's all kinds of twists around every corner as this is the gaming world, with a side of murder, so hacking skills are big time, while my f-bomb dropping is the skill that I brought to the table. So there's excitement, some angst when the communication is off, and even some setting the sheets on fire. I hope there's more to these people in the future, as I still have some questions, and HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This is the first book I have read by Zoe and I loved it. I am a bit of a gamer. Not like the characters in the book but I do play video games. It was what initially drew me to the book. It was better than I could have imagined. This book has danger, angst, and romance. Tori is a gamer and programmer. She finds herself in a bit of a situation. She has been drawn into an underground gaming scene where bets are made and they have made it so you can never really get away except in death. Noah lost his brother to the same underground gaming ring. He wants to stop what is going on and catch the person who hurt his brother. What he never expected was to find the one girl that doesn’t make him tongue tied, who he can actually talk to and he likes. But he needs her to help him catch his brother’s killer. They have found each other in the most inconvenient of times. They both have issues and mistrust of the opposite sex but can they overcome that in order to have something spectacular? I loved this book and I can’t wait for the next one to come. There is a mystery component to this book that I loved. I knew after not long that they probably weren’t going to catch the real person behind everything. They might catch someone who is being set up to take the fall but not the real culprit. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next.

Off Her Game

Tori and Noah meet as they are being released in jail. Surprisingly they are both being picked up by the same person, Tori's sister. Noah is CEO and owner of a gaming business, and he is smoking hot and sexy to boot. He is working with the FBI to bring down an underworld of gaming that killed his brother. They recruit Tori to work with them since she is playing at the Stadium and is in debt to the underworld gaming kingpin Symphis. They have to pretend they are dating, but the chemistry between the two of them is off the charts, and you saw it when they were in jail. Noah has social anxiety and normally can't talk or function around women, but surprisingly he feels very comfortable around Tori. Tori went to MIT and programs and has developed her own game that she is trying to sell. I am not a gamer, but I was hooked on this book from page 1, and could not put it down. While the ending was not what I had hoped for, I can't wait to read the next book in this series. This was my first time reading Zoe Forward, but I will definitely be reading the rest of this series and others. If you like some suspense, and steamy, sexy scenes, this one won't disappoint you.

Good But...

The blurb had me interested from the get go, a girl gamer? Bring it on. Add in the mystery of the underground gaming kingpin and the hot video game CEO, sounds like quite the story line and it was.

Tori is in neck-deep with the gaming underground, owning then quite a bit of money. While the underground is no secret, who runs it is and he's getting braver with his actions. Tori is trying to dig her way out and happens to stumble upon a guy with the same intentions, but for different reasons.

These paths cross and the plan of all plans is devised. Tori fake dates the hot, yet shy CEO, is expected not to fall for him, all the while getting the bad guy out of the e-gaming world. Simple right?? As you can imagine, all kinds of wrong and misunderstanding helps fuel this ride until the end.

The book is well written, however felt a bit choppy with storylines ending quickly or not explored enough to make sense. Sometimes less detail is better. I wasn't feeling a connection to either character and their relationship, or whatever it was, but enjoyed the story line, unfortunately it isn't complete. I am satisfied with how our main characters ended and at this point, not sure if I'm on board for the next book.

Gamers delight and non-gamers pleasure

To help bring a crooked gaming kingpin down, Tori Duarte will have to help the F.B.I. and pretend to date the CEO of a gaming company as cover. Having dreamed of being a designer, she had used gaming sites in hopes of making a bit of money. No luck there as she soon finds herself in debt and busted. So what could it hurt to help the good guys out? Well, dealing with an outlaw group is one thing but dealing with the shy, nerdy CEO Noah Harrison is quite another. The gorgeous man wants this group brought down for personal reasons, but the feisty, sexy Tori is an added pleasure. If they can figure out that the playing has stopped and real feelings have begun.

This is the first I have read by Zoe Forward and enjoyed this fairly easy read very much. It was a totally different look when it came to the usual personalities in romances; Tori is the outgoing one and Noah is the shy, nerd but for the first time comes to life around a woman. Nice change of pace as most big bosses are alpha in personality. The secondary characters workers, and friends are interesting mixture of personalities, especially Noah's business partner, Jake, who really needs his own story. The only question I still have is ... did they really catch the bad guy or not?

When I read the blurb, I signed up to read this book almost immediately. Zoe Forward is a new-to-me author. I have to say that I was glad that the book lived up to and exceeded my expectations.

Through cosmic coincidence (or is it?), Tori Duarte & Noah Harrison meet in jail. Professional gamer to his wealthy game developer, both are surprised to see how closely connected their worlds are. Forced into a fake relationship by the FBI in return for help to clear her gambling debts, Tori & Noah fight to keep their very real attraction and chemistry hidden, especially as things begin to take a dangerous turn.

I really enjoyed reading Noah's POV throughout the book. I loved that Noah, while portrayed as sexy and wealthy, was still pretty humble. He was still a geek under all the hot abs. His brand of awkwardness was sweet, and it meshed well with Tori's badass veneer.

This is a really good beginning to the series. I loved the plot and the romance between Noah & Tori. I really wanted there to be more when I got to the end, so I really hope the second book will be along soon, and just as good!

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

This is not your typical romance book. These two are very hard headed. They have a mission that both are committed to but things start to happen.. Noah is a gaming God. He and his partner own a company that has launched some very popular games recently. Noah is very much a wallflower when it comes to meeting new people and social media. Something changes when he meets Tori. He opens up to her and in turn, she gets him to overcome his past and blossom out. This is truly amazing to see the change in both of them. Tori, is a gamer. She has made a name for herself. She just isn't good in some of her decisions. She has a debt. Tori gets wrapped up in a dangerous game. Thankfully she is smart with how she does things and doesn't end up like some of the others. Noah and her have sparks but refuse to admit it. They have a connection but are both to consumed with the plan that they forget about feelings. This book was very consuming. I'm not normally into gaming romances but this one intrigued me and I was glad I read it.

Exciting and intriguing romance set in the world of computer video games had me glued to the page with the mystery and suspense. To me this is a fresh take for a romance. I loved the blend of successful Noah and Jake with their video games combined with the dark side with illegal gaming and the mystery of Symphis. Add in this incredibly strong, smart and confident woman, Tori, who can hold her own in a very male dominated world, and I was hooked. Noah is brilliant but struggles with his social skills and dating women but then he meets Tori and connects with her as a fellow trekkie. He didn’t over think it, just allowed himself to be him. As Noah and Tori end up working together to bring down Symphis, they find a natural connection with their love of gaming. The intrigue to this story is amazing and the way the slow burn happens for Noah and Tori is perfect. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Off Her Game was the first book in The Game Lords series. The plot line of this book was definitely different than most other books that I typically read but it was one that had me hooked from start to finish.

Full of drama, mystery and suspense the author pulled me into the gaming world and didn't let me go. Tori is a strong, amazing character and her ability to make a name for herself in a typically male dominated area was one of my favorite things about her. She and Noah had amazing chemistry right from the start and even though they were both awkward around each other at times I thought it was perfect.

The mystery surrounding the deaths of the other gamers and who Symphis was had my on the edge of my seat the entire time. While romance is involved, that is just a small part of the overall story and I was constantly trying to figure out what was going to happen next.

I can not wait to get my hands on the next book in this series! - By Alisa

Zoe Forward is a new author for me, but based on her Off Her Game (The Game Lords Book 1), I’m promising myself that we will become well acquainted. As the book’s blurb notes, this standalone novel is a great “fake relationship romantic comedy full of steamy heat with dabs of suspense.”. This novel had just what I wanted and was well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters. Tori and Noah, are perfectly crafted and perfect for each other. Their supporting cast is also superb. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommendand I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in The Game Lords series.

I’m a loner, so I’m not really into the big, multi-player games. But I am a geek and a nerd-girl at heart. That means that I loved just about everything about this book. What I didn’t love is that it’s over already. Noah’s social awkwardness, a situation familiar to so many of us, made him so charmingly endearing to me. I want to hug the stuffing out of him like a great big teddy bear. The chip on Tori’s shoulder was a little off-putting, but she’s earned it fair and square by being something that society doesn’t expect her to be. I adored her feisty, snarky personality, and now I can’t wait to see what the next book brings us.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books.

I procrastinated on this book for over a week. I went in with the mindset of it being another poorly written romance with a meek, air headed female lead and insta love. Blah!

This book is so not even close to that. The female lead was a spectacular character. Even Noah, who is a classic hot geek, is a well written character. I am very much into macho men and the insecurities that Noah shows a much softer side. He still has his sexy bad boy side though, which saves his characteristic nice guy.

This story had action, drama, suspense, and a perfect set up for book 2 with out the cliffhanger nightmare. Very well written and I can't wait to see Jack's story! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Love, love, love that the author incorporated video games into this story. The characters are great. Story is easy to read and follow. Sex scenes are hot. I had a hard time reconciling the public Noah with the bedroom Noah. It seemed off a little but still a possibility. Also, it was a little confusing how the main characters kept going back and forth in their own heads about pursuing each other. I started to wonder if they really did truly like each other or not. The storyline is one of the best I have read in a long time. It has romance, suspense, thrill, sex and video games. No one thing overwhelms the other. It had a nice mix. Book does have an HEA but there is a cliffhanger in another part of the story. Can't wait to read the next in the series. P.S. I want to play ZoneWorlds.
