War is on the verge of breaking out in Texarkana, and it’s up to Isis to stop it.

With the vampires and elves at each other’s throats, Texarkana couldn’t be in more trouble. When Genevieve, the heir to the elf kingdom goes missing, Isis is stuck in the middle of a faction war she knows nothing about. But, when she finds out Genevieve is engaged to Arthur, the heir to the Vampire Empire, she realizes the path of destruction will be great if she can’t find the princess.

Isis is the only person that doesn’t believe that either faction is hiding the princess. In fact, she thinks someone kidnapped her, and the longer the clock ticks, the more trouble Genevieve could be in.

As Death’s Intern in Texarkana, Isis is the only one who can stop this war before it begins. Danger lurks around every corner she searches, and with time working against her, she is scared she might be too late to save Genevieve.

Will Isis find Genevieve before it’s too late, or will she be thrown right into the middle of the next World War?

This book grips you from the first word and doesn't let go until the end. Isis is an amazing, spunky, sassy, sarcastic character you can't help but fall in love with. This is book 3 in a series, but can be read as a standalone as well. Of you love the paranormal/urban fantasy genre and can't get enough of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, then you are in the right place.

Isis's world is crazy, complicated, and full of trouble, at least for her. Everytime the poor girl turns around someone is after her or she has another problem to solve. I love her. Can't get enough of her. And cannot wait for the next one!!

Do yourself a favor and grab your copy today.

Intern Reapers. You need to love them. They really aren’t bad; they just escort you to Death, right? We have met Pestilence, and now we get to meet War. He seems shy. His Intern, Katrina, is paying off her debt and helping Isis in this story. Between the two of them, Constantine, Bart, Bob and of course Shorty, they have 72 hours to rescue Genevieve, the heir to the Elf kingdom, who NOBODY realized was missing. Working against the clock, the vampires and the elves, the women go to Hell and back to work the clues and save the princess. It does not go without saying it was not a smooth rescue.

In "Forbidden War," D.C. Gomez immerses readers in a world where the supernatural and the mundane collide, weaving a tapestry of intrigue and danger that keeps the pages turning. As Isis Black, our intrepid protagonist, navigates the chaotic landscape of Texarkana, she must confront not only the looming threat of war but also the complexities of her own relationships and alliances.

What sets "Forbidden War" apart is Gomez's skillful blend of humor and heart. Despite the high stakes and looming danger, moments of levity and wit pepper the narrative, offering readers a welcome respite from the tension-filled plot. From Isis's snarky commentary to the banter between her and her friends, the dialogue crackles with energy and personality, making each character feel distinct and memorable.

At its core, "Forbidden War" is a story about power and its corrupting influence. Death's manipulative brother, War, serves as a catalyst for much of the conflict, pulling strings and manipulating events to serve his own agenda. As Isis and her friends navigate the treacherous waters of diplomacy, they must also confront their own inner demons and wrestle with questions of morality and duty.

Throughout the novel, Gomez expertly ratchets up the tension, keeping readers guessing until the very end. Twists and turns abound as alliances shift, betrayals unfold, and secrets are revealed. Yet amidst the chaos, there is also hope – hope for reconciliation, for redemption, and for a better future.

In the end, "Forbidden War" is more than just a thrilling urban fantasy novel – it's a testament to the power of friendship, courage, and resilience in the face of adversity. With its richly drawn characters, gripping plot, and witty dialogue, it's sure to captivate readers from start to finish.

I just gave a satisfied sigh as I reached the end of the third installment of D. C. Gomez's, The Intern Diaries.

It was fun meeting the next Horseman of the Apocalypse, War and his intern, Katrina as they team up with the crew at Reepers to find a missing princess before time runs out and a war between Vampires and Elven breaks out.

I feel like the character, War, could have been filled out a little more. I didn't get much on him but I loved his intern's fresh perspective as she has worked for War for many, many generations and the connection to Bob was touching as well.

I love the surprises that always come with Isis' missions. It's great how she is still shocked when bigger and better equipment roll out for her use. There is no end to the supplies that Constantine and Bartholomew can get their little paws/hands on!

All in all, I just really enjoy these adventures with Isis and the enlarged again, group at Reepers. The endings are pretty predictable but it's the only way you would want to see it go, because then, there will be another story. (That's my logic anyway.) This one has a bit of a surprise for Isis in the end.

I give this book a 5 star rating because the cover art is great, the story is very interesting and fun to read and the characters are original and very easy to fall into rhythm with. This story is for folks who, like me, love a great fantasy series. Once you read the first one, you just want more. I want more Isis and the crew and the kinds of adventures that being Death's Intern will bring.

I'm now just waiting to start the 4th book in the series where we will meet Famine. Should be interesting!

The Review

This is another fantastic entry into this phenomenal urban fantasy series. The author does an incredible job of further exploring the paranormal mythos of the world that the characters inhabit. The thing that always brings a bright spot to the story itself is the exploration of the Horsemen mythos, exploring the relationship and differences between Death and her siblings and how it impacts the paranormal world as a whole.

The blend of humor in the characters' dialogue and character development made this story shine. The witty banter between Isis and the other characters felt like the same charming humor found in shows like Supernatural back in the day. Exploring the relationship vampires have with other members of the paranormal community was mesmerizing to see come to life on the page.

The Verdict

Memorable, high-octane, and hilariously adventurous author D.C. Gomez’s “Forbidden War” is a must-read urban fantasy. The exploration of how Death’s Interns work with the interns of other Horsemen and the way this book built upon the stories told in previous books while also working well as a standalone novel made this one book you won’t want to put down.

Forbidden War by D.C. Gomez is a fabulous journey full of action-packed scenes. Readers will find danger, trouble, death, and war everywhere. I love how complicated the plot is. Then, there are the names of the characters. Isis is the female heroine. Her name is after the Egyptian Goddess. However, it is also the name of the worst terrorist group ever. Isis hates that part. I felt sympathy for her because I cannot imagine trying to explain every time. Then, there are the other characters that have this old England names such as Arthur and Genevie. I love the throw of names mixed in this book. Then, to take this fantasy further, there are vampires and elves mixed into it. There is always a surprise in every novel by this talented multi-genre writer. I love the craziness, the suspense, and the dread of what's to come. Plus, there is plenty of humor in the wild ride of an adventure.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

Isis and her crew are at it again! Her town is the new Haven for super naturals and she is the sheriff. Now, a war is brewing between the vampires and elves if Isis and War’s intern cannot find her. She finds out surprising news about her godmother. She gets a new member to work with on this case. She goes to Hell literally! She still has so many others after her it will not come as a surprise. Many hilarious parts in the book. This time though, she will literally fight to the death! Death plays a huge part in this fight as well. All hands are on deck for this battle. Who would have thought that another case would bring about the fight of their lives, would involve Death, and the devil would come to her for help! All of this right before her birthday as well! Grab your copy now you will not be disappointed!

This is the 3rd book in the Intern Dairies series. (5th book if you count the two novellas so far)
These books are like a slow burn romance for the readers… (no actual romance in the books… it’s a analogy hang with me)
You start off with a hello let’s get to know the characters and what’s happening today… then there is intriguing situations happening … it peaks your interest.
Then you can’t stop thinking about the story… you must read more! Then bam action action action… nonstop action!
I really am loving this series. All the different characters coming together and they all bring something extra to the story.
The ending in this book had me in tears. There is a surprise for Isis that you don’t want to miss!
D.C. Gomez is an amazing writer and she is a automatic buy for me!

What will they throw at Isis next?????

She has faced down trolls, witches, vampires, zombies, elves and so many other supernatural treasures she never knew existed. Isn't it time she had a break?? But Death always has a new task for her. Now that Texarcana has become the only Haven in North America, she will surely meet other creatures she's never heard of or thought were just fairytales for young people. Highly recommended.

If you’ve ever found a book or movie based in your hometown, you will understand the surreal experience of reading a fun adventure that paints the picture so vividly that you are sure you are in the story. Each character could be your friend or family member (or based on one of them in a small town)! DC Gomez has created a world of adventure with humor. Complete fantasy but based on a real place. Love, love, love!

Third in series, very good but not as 'together' as previous

This is the third book in the series (fourth if you count the origin of the cat) and it's good. I did have trouble keeping the thread towards the end and I can't decide if it's me or the book. Still, four out of five ain't bad, just that I thought the others were fives.

They keep getting better!

I love this series. Isis is the kind of bad-ass that we all want to root for in this life. It’s an easy read that takes you through emotional highs and lows, and leaves you feeling like there is hope to overcome evil in the world. Thanks, DC!

“The heir to the elves, Princess Genevieve, is missing. The elf king thinks the vampires have her. The vampires, on the other hand, are convinced the elves are hiding the princess against her wishes.”

It has been one year since Isis Black’s took up the role of Death’s Intern for the North American territory. Not being killed in her first year means Isis’ hometown of Texarkana, Tx is now the new Haven for all things supernatural, and Isis is their Sheriff. After running from her past for many years, Isis is now ready to embrace her responsibilities. She learns that the other Interns stay far away from Haven, but Isis dives in head first. This tale introduces War and his infamous Intern, Katrina. War needs Isis and her team to attend a treaty to prevent a war from breaking out between vampires and elves. The elven princess, Genevieve, is missing. The elves believe the vampires have stolen her, as she in engaged to the vampire heir, Arthur. The vampires believe the elves are hiding the princess away to keep her away from her betrothed. Isis thinks the Genevieve might actually be missing and in real danger. Mediators from both sides give Isis three days to find the lost princess and bring her back to safety.
This tale takes Isis on a wild ride across the country to locate a missing princess and return her to her loved ones before it is too late. D C Gomez delivers some power house players in Forbidden War, the third installment of The Intern Diaries series. This is my favorite chapter in the series so far. Battles are won and some are lost, tears will be shed, and the sarcasms drips from the pages. This one really pulled at my heart stings. Given the information dumped on her in this mission, Isis handles herself pretty well.

This series continues to suck me into a magical world within my own town. This book brings in vampires and elves, two of my favorite beings to read about. A war is brewing between the elves and the vampires and Isis must put a stop to it by finding the elven princess. This fast-pasted adventure made me not want to stop. I cannot wait for the next adventure in this series.
