CHELSEA

He's sexy, smart, and undeniably irresistible.
After one night alone in a storm,
One thing is certain.
This older man is everything I have ever wanted.
And everything I can never have.

But his loss is so raw,
So real,
And so deep,
He can't give me what I really need.

DEAN

Pain and loss,
I know them all too well.
After tragedy strikes,
I have no interest in suffering that kind of loss.
Ever again.

The pull of a young, fiery, red-headed librarian,
Gives me reason to want to live again.
Feel again.
And quite possibly love again.

After all, it's been long overdue.

Overdue is book four in the Santa Lena Sizzles series by Jessa York. I have enjoyed this series so much up to this point. I knew Dean’s story was coming and I have to admit, I kind of fell in love with him in the previous book. I ended up loving this book. I think it’s my favorite of the series. I saw a different side to Dean and I have to say, I enjoyed it! You can definitely read this book as a stand alone. But you would have more of a connection to all of the secondary characters if you read the previous books!

Dean McCallister is owner of Brentford Organics. We’ve gotten to know him as the boss in the previous books and also as the best friend of Vivienne. I adored the way he supported her in the previous book. Dean suffered a tremendous loss three years ago and has never really recovered from it. He has never moved on. He hasn’t dated or been with a woman in those three years nor has he had any inclination to. Dean and Vivienne recently signed the biggest account they have gotten to date, a grocery store chain owned by Bob Forester. Dean is attending an annual party Bob hosts at his estate attended by his investor friends and associates. All he wants to do is make an appearance and then leave, until he sees her across the room. Her laugh is the most beautiful music he has ever heard. He can’t take his eyes off of her. And then she motions for him to follow her outside and they take a walk together.

cottage and rose garden

Chelsea Daye is twenty five years old, fifteen years younger than Dean. She is a librarian at an elementary school. She has red hair, and radiates a beauty the likes of which Dean has never seen. He knows she’s too young for him, that he should walk away. But he just can’t.

“I’ve gone three years without a woman. Why this redheaded woman eroded my willpower after all this time confounded me.”

red headed woman

Chelsea has also suffered loss in her life so she understands Dean. They understand each other. Dean finds a happiness with her he never thought he would find again. But he still hasn’t completely let go of his own past. Chelsea has to decide if there is room in Dean’s life for her and for all the ghosts he still holds on to.

Raining

At the same time, Chelsea is not only dealing with a tyrannical boss at her school, she is also dealing with an overprotective uncle. Things begin to happen that point to something strange going on with him but there isn’t enough of a threat to warrant the authorities to get involved. Is Chelsea in danger or is it nothing to worry about?

love

I enjoyed this so much as Dean and Chelsea navigated their new relationship. I loved the addition of the bit of suspense. We also get to revisit some of our favorite characters from the previous books including Roza. I loved that Roza tries to help with her advice. Actually, she always does have a really good message, it’s just that she is so cute and funny the way she shares it with her thick accent. And of course, when Roza, Audrey, Vivienne, Harper and Riley get together, mayhem ensues. What I love, though, is the way these women come to the aid of each other, no matter what. And now they have taken Chelsea into their midst. When she needs them, they are there, whether she wants it or not!

This series has been so much fun and so is this book. But I believe there is a level of emotion in this one that I hadn’t felt before. Dean believes he is a damaged man with a lonely future. The question is, will he allow Chelsea to change all that? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

I enjoyed this one. A little heavy on the "dead wife" thing and the whole "baddie" twist near the end was a bit cheesy. However, the heroine wasn't a doormat (even though she was a 25-year-old virgin...sigh), and the hero wasn't a manwhore. On top of that, the secondary characters were great, and I want to read more about Officer Stone! So yea, it was a cute read.

Oh my gawd! This is definitely my favorite by this author!
Dean’s story was quite heartbreaking and if ever a hero deserved to find a happy ever after, it was him. I loved that from the moment he saw Chelsea and then heard her laughter, a part of him he didn’t even know existed came to life. Instead of fighting it, he completely embraced what being with her did to him.

Chelsea too had a past filled with pain. Some of the things she shared with Dean and what had helped her was absolutely heartwarming, especially as she extended those same motions to him. I found my throat thickening with tears several times as this couple work to heal each other.

This is not filled with typical actions and reactions. This was a fresh new story taking a trope, that I personally am not a fan of, and making it shine in a whole new way. I loved absolutely everything about this story. Yes, there is a dead spouse and I was apprehensive, to say the least. This trope can be extremely tricky for me as I often feel the heroine comes in second place. However, that was never the case here. From the very beginning I was one hundred percent certain that Dean’s heart belonged to Chelsea and it never wavered from that point onward.

This is a fast paced story that moved fluidly from one issue to another, Dean and Chelsea growing closer with each obstacle they overcame. The steam factor is quite steamy and the chemistry between this hero and heroine is sizzling and completely believable. This also has some great jealous possessive moments with the hero.

As all other books in this series, this is filled with some wonderful humor and hilarious antics. While we see some of the characters from previous books, this can be read as a standalone. It is by far the best she has written, in my opinion, and I expect some pretty amazing things in the future as her talent continues to grow.

I think Overdue just might be my favourite book from the Santa Lena Sizzles series.

There is no denying that Chelsea and Dean's chemistry is a page turner.

Dean McCallister is a dreamboat! *sigh*
And as for Chelsea? I knew I was going to like her from the very first chapter. She is independent and quirky....and I loved her character!

Overdue had a lot of touching moments as well some very irresistible scenes. Surprisingly, I think there were so many funny scenes in the book...case in point: The 'Balloons' scene. I swear that scene was embarrassingly hilarious! hahaha
If you have read the book, you know which one I'm talking about and I bet you are smiling remembering that. LOL!

Overdue was predominantly a fun read but there were moments that were heartbreaking.

Overall, I really enjoyed Overdue.
Hands down my favourite from the series so far!

This is my favourite in the Sizzle Series so far. Fantastic read.

Dean is my type of hero. A little older, a lot experienced and just a touch broken. Chelsea was the exact amount of sweet to make you love her without being annoying. Their connection is instant but their path to love isn't smooth. So many great aspects of this story - from the dialogue, to the chemistry between the leads and the genuine feelings that poured from the page. And that epilogue - LOVED it! So adorable I was smiling like a crazy person.

Loved everything about it & have my fingers crossed that the next book is going to be for Riley. She has intrigued me in every book and can't wait for more of her.

I received an arc of this book.

Omg! I've been waiting forever for Dean's book and let me tell you, it didn't disappoint! Overdue by Jessa York is the 4th book in the Santa Lena Sizzles series. It had every emotion you could think of! I laughed and I cried and I swooned so hard! The story contained the same lovable cast of characters we've come to know from previous books in the series, along with a few new people to keep us on our toes. The storyline flowed so clear. It has been amazing to watch Jessa York's writing style find it's own in the indie romance world. There were twists and turns that kept the reader guessing where the plot was going. It even managed to surprise me and I have read a lot and can guess a lot of times what's going to happen. I couldn't with this awesome book! I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone. It's my favorite of the series!

The time has come, folks. Dean gets his story! After the pain and loss he’s suffered in life, he deserves it. Unfortunately, he’s a man and must be a bonehead to the woman he loves before catching a clue and fixing the mess he made with his fears. Luckily, he fixes it beautifully.

Chelsea is the perfect match for Dean. She’s lived through the heartbreak of losing loved ones and made it through to the other side of grief and acceptance. She is truly a determined ray of sunshine that Dean so desperately needs, and she doesn’t just roll over and give in because a demanding alpha male wants her to. Oh, no. She gives as good as she gets and makes me want to cheer for her spirit to remain unbroken.

These two have a few bumps in their road to happy, but they make it a beautiful journey and manage to suck me in completely. I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series!

Another fabulous read from Jessa York! With each book, I think it’s my favorite, and then she writes another one that I just can’t put down.

Dean and Chelsea haven’t had an easy time of it. They’ve both loved and lost people who were integral to their lives, just in different capacities.

Throw in my favorite side character, Roza, and some drama that keeps you guessing, and you have another amazing read by Jessa York. This book is definitely not to be missed!

This was probably my favorite of the series, besides the first of course. Dean suffered an unimaginable loss, and has yet to recover. No woman has sparked his interest like the young, fiery, stunning Chelsea. The niece of one of his biggest accounts. He knows he should keep his distance but something about her calls her to him. They have a bumpy road ahead of them, and Dean is forced to make peace with his past if he wants to keep Chelsea. There are some super sweet moments, some really infuriating moments and some really stupid moments courtesy of Dean. There was a little suspense, a little action, but at the heart a really sweet love story with everything one should have. The characters are relatable, lovable, and down right funny at some times. I do have one question though. Will the very hot Officer Stone get his own story? With the equally sexy Riley perhaps???? Inquiring minds want to know. *smiles*

This has been such a terrific series and this book is a wonderful addition. All of the characters are really well written and bring a lot to each story (even if they are a secondary characters). Dean and Chelsea's story was sweet and sexy with a little bit of intrigue thrown in. These two characters have been through tragedies that have shaped who they are. I've loved Dean from previous books but in this story he really came into his own. Both he and Chelsea have emotional journeys to overcome their baggage but Dean's journey was a bit harder. Chelsea is a perfect match for him in personality and the way she looks at life. Their journey was a little messy and unexpected, but I couldn't have hoped for a better happily ever after for this couple.

I voluntarily read a digital ARC provided to me by the author.

I always know not to start a Jessa York book if I don't have ample time to finish it, and Overdue was no different!! Dean and Chelsea's story was so well written, made me laugh and made me cry. Most of all it made me feel, so much. While I didn't want the story to end, I was so happy for them to get their happily ever after.

Loss, grief, acceptance, moving forward with love. I loved Dean and Chelsea.
After reading about Dean in the previous books I was so happy to get to read his story. Three years after his loss Dean has not quite recovered and then he catches a glimpse of the fiery red head with the captivating laugh. Chelsea is fifteen years younger and as they walk together to the garden he is mesmerized by her radiance and is confounded as to why she has captured his attention as completely as she has. Chelsea has suffered loss herself and they bond over their pasts that hold memories and pain. Dean must come to terms with letting go of what he has held on to for three years as well as the fears he has yet to release. Chelsea is strong and brave and deals with her reality in a way that finds acceptance to it. It’s a story of forgiveness, acceptance and love that I really enjoyed and continue to think about with a sense of pleasant satisfaction.

I’ve been waiting on Dean’s story...I knew he had suffered a loss at some point but didn’t know the circumstances until now. It sheds a lot of understanding on why he is the way he is. Chelsea having undergone a loss of her own was just what Dean needed to move on. Lots of twists and turns in this one....they took a bumpy path to get to their HEA but they made it! Chad and Izzy???? Stone and Izzy????? Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Oh man! I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in the Santa Lena Sizzle series and I’ve been waiting for Dean’s book. Dean, owner of Brentford Organics, has suffered great loss in his life. He knows he shouldn’t want Chelsea. She’s gorgeous, young and vibrant, but she’s also the niece of one of his biggest clients. But Chelsea has experienced loss too. The journey to their HEA was filled with twists and turns, but I loved the journey. Can’t wait to see what’s next in this delicious series.

Another great addition to the Santa Lena Sizzle series!! Dean’s story brings out all the feels...you are heartbroken for him due to his past, hopeful for him to have a future with the vivacious Chelsea, and happy for him as things start to come together. Add in a little suspense and you’ve a great read. The only thing missing is even MORE Officer Stone...but I’m hoping we’ll see more of him in another book!

Absolutely loved this book, highly recommend!

Wow I have loved all the characters in the Santa Lena Sizzles series. Dean and Chelsea's story is amazing and so full of emotion. I've laughed, I've cried and swooned We heard a little about Sean in the previous book. He has been through such a terrible loss and thinks he's destined to be alone the rest of his life until he comes across the vibrant, sweet and fiery Chelsea at the party of one of his biggest clients.
But the thing is will Dean let his past ruin his future? Can he let his past go for the fiery redhead?
Jesse York is an amazingly talented writer if you haven't read the previous books in this series you should. You don't have to Overdue is a stand alone but to get a better view of the secondary characters you should.

Dean and Chelsea have both suffered unimaginable loss in their lives. Chelsea has managed to remain somewhat optimistic but Dean has shut himself off from all emotions because it simply hurts too bad.

When Chelsea and Dean meet up at a party, their connection was immediate. This is a story of grief and loss, along with healing and hope. They both make dumb mistakes and have to muddle through their feelings to find love and forgiveness.

This wonderful book is unputdownable. It should come with a warning to that effect. I loved it and will be reading the others in this series.

This book is so good that I feel like reading it again. It could be read as a stand-alone but I advice the reading of the previous books owing to the continuous glimpse of the other characters that are part of the other stories. Dean is the ideal specimen of the perfect man. Kind, caring and very handsome, the man who could never let a woman down. Unfortunately he carries a heavy burden because a few years back he lost his wife and unborn child. He wasn’t expecting on giving himself a second chance but Chelsea comes along and his life is no longer the same. A story fully developed, with the main characters that will make the reader weep with joy.

I was fortunate enough to get an ARC of this book. Wow!!! One truly exceptional romance. Dean and Chelsea's love story was so wonderful. Dean an amazing thoughtful guy and Chelsea s sweet caring woman. They both have had a heart-wrenching past. I love how they fell in love so quickly and how gentle Dean was with Chelsea. A page turner, I couldn't put down. The shock that came about with her uncle, really put a twist in the story. The ending was exceptional and I am so happy that it ended very happily for Dean and Chelsea. A great 5 star read. Thanks again Jessa.

This book was so worth the wait! Even though it is a stand alone book we see characters from the other books in the series. I was so happy to finally get Dean's story. Neither Dean or Chelsea have had an easy life, both experiencing losses. They have a long road to reach their HEA but it is so worth it. I loved this story! I went through so many emotions while reading it.

MY FAVORITE OF THE SANTA LENA SIZZLES SERIES!

Jessa has done it again! I LOVED this story so much and have been waiting for Dean’s tale since meeting him in Over Easy.

There were so many wonderful moments! I laughed, cried, and yelled at my Kindle while reading.

Dean and Chelsea helped each other grow and change throughout the story. It was truly beautiful to see them do that.

You definitely want this one on your shelf! I absolutely recommend it!

Another hit for Jessa!

I have read all 4 of her books. They are all amazing but this one, oh this one has all the feels.

Dean’s book is everything Jessa said it would be and more.

Deans story is one for the record books. This book made me laugh, cry and everything in between.

This can be read as a stand-alone however all our past favorites come back during the book.

3.5 stars

I’m torn between 3 and 4 stars for Healed by Chelsea.

On the one hand, it’s a very emotionally impactful story on love and loss, both of a spouse and unborn baby. The scenes in the nursery brought tears to my eyes as I read.

However, on the other hand, it seemed that ALL of the relationship struggles were blamed on Dean. I agree that at times he didn’t think before doing (letting Chelsea borrow his late wife’s vehicle), but Chelsea didn’t do so hot, either. Such as when she apparently didn’t think anything was wrong with letting her hot neighbor rub her feet (Dean walked in on this). Also, her logic (in my opinion) was flawed in thinking that 6 weeks was enough time for Dean to REALLY let her into his life. I wanted to say, “Chickie, most relationships don’t work that way. It takes time to let someone into you EMOTIONALLY, especially after Dean’s severe loss.”

Oh, and Dean did not get enough kudos for refusing to back off his relationship with Chelsea, even at the expense of great loss of money.

So, to recap, I enjoyed it, but maybe not enough to read any other books. Also, I really want to send Dean, a fictional character, a virtual hug to let him know I’m on his side, lol.

Stuck in the past?

I’ve been waiting eagerly for Dean’s story and it’s amazing😍

Dean is the owner of Brentford Organics and after landing a big client, he goes to one of their parties. A woman with beautiful red hair and the most gorgeous green eyes holds his attention and when she sees he’s only eyeing her, she decides to be bold and make a move. Chelsea’s uncle is throwing said party but she always leaves early due to boredom....but not this year! Sexy, slightly older male has caught her eye and she’s moving in. However, both come with heavy past baggage...will they be able to move on together or will they both be stuck in the past?

Loved this story and loved catching up with old favourites too! I’m hoping that there will be a book for Roza and eventually Chad as well, but I must admit the ninja has me intrigued❣️This book had all the feels, it had me teary eyed one minute, laughing the next and the epilogue had me by the short and curlies too😀 Thank you to Jessa for my advanced copy and I look forward to more in this series!

This book was heartbreaking yet healing. It was tough to read about the loss that Dean and Chelsea went through in their lives. Jessa did an amazing job of showing how grief continues to affect those of us who have dealt with loss long after our loved ones are gone. In their journey to finding happily ever after with one another, they also had to work on getting through the loss that they had previously gone through. With the help of friends, Dean and Chelsea were able to overcome all of the obstacles that came their way. There was a lot of laughter and tears during this story. I fell in love with Dean and Chelsea and couldn't help but cheer them on. The heartache and danger that Chelsea's uncle caused added a surprise element of suspense in the journey that Dean and Chelsea had to traverse. I was happy to see them come out on top after the horror that Chelsea had to go through because of Bob's stupidity.
