Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush
When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.

I thought this would be a quick, light mystery, but it’s quite a serious little mystery. I loved how it’s squeaky-clean and yet is deep as well. Cassidy, a newly-wed and a local police chief, is going up against a mysterious religious group on her island and trying to figure out some other strange goings-on as well, including a body that washed up on the beach. Part of the mystery is solved in the book, but part of it will be carried on to the next book.

Need I mentioned I downloaded the next book right away?

On the Lookout begins a new series by Christy Barritt taking place in Lantern Beach. This time around, Cassidy is the police chief and the hunt for justice again. From the first chapter, I am interested in the idea of Gilead Cove and trying to figure out the connection to the dead body that came ashore. Stories with cults in them are fascinating because I have a hard time understanding why people believe their obvious lies, but I know Satan is working wonders. Anyways the cult idea is different for Barritt, but not original in the book realm. The suspense moved pretty rapidly and kept my focused. There isn't much romance in this novel, but I did see Cassidy and Ty who are now married, working as a married couple. Overall, On the Lookout is a unique first book in the series, and I really can't wait to read the rest.

This was a very well written murder mystery including a suspicious, controlling cult, naive converts, murder and a sweet married couple...police chief Cassidy Chambers and her ex-Navy Seal husband Ty.
If I had done a little more research on this book I would have found out that this a continuing series where the books aren’t considered stand-alones. All the way through I felt like I was in the middle of a story which must have started in another series, then this book didn’t come to an end, so it will continue through four more books.
If you have all the books, great! You’ll get the whole story. But I only have the one, and sadly, that’s as far as I will go with this series.

On the Lookout is the first in the newest Lantern Beach series. Cassidy, Ty, and the rest of the gang are back to solve another mystery on the island. A mysterious group has moved to town and a body washes onto shore. Are they connected? Is this somehow connected to Ty or Cassidy’s past? You’ll have to read to find the answers. I would definitely read the series in order as the story continues from on book to the next. Excited to start Attempt to Locate.

I was given a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

I was pleased to see a new series centered around Cassidy and Ty, now that they're married, while still set in Lantern Beach. Barritt reintroduces her lovable cast with a fresh mystery for Cassidy to solve. This time, a suspicious cult has taken haven on the island, and when a body appears, Cassidy can't shake the feeling this peace-loving group might not be so peace-loving as they claim. Although Barritt resolves some of the tension, she also saves some for a sequel.

We're back in Lantern Beach in ON THE LOOKOUT, the first book in the new Lantern Beach P.D. series by Christy Barritt. A spinoff of the Lantern Beach Mysteries, ON THE LOOKOUT finds Cassidy Chambers solving crimes in her new role as police chief.

I loved being back in Lantern Beach again and seeing what Cassidy and Ty were up to now. It felt like I was visiting cherished, old friends of mine.

ON THE LOOKOUT is a great start to what promises to be a fantastic series. You could definitely read this book without reading the previous series, but I'd still recommend starting there. They're great stories and I wouldn't want you to miss out on them.

There's a lot of new things happening around town that will surely keep things interesting in upcoming books. I can't wait to see what's in store for these characters next! Highly recommend!

This series is a quick read. It is really a 5 part series that is a page turner that can't be put down! I was glued to my kindle for an entire week devouring this series.
The author creates memorable characters both male and female. I particularly like the strong women in the story. And, of course, the Christianity that underlies everything.

Readers met Cassidy and learned all about her own story in the Lantern Beach series. Now, Cassidy is married and the new police chief in the place she found refuge.

Another mystery has arrived in this little beach town along with a dead body. As Cassidy investigates, she is led to a group of people living in isolation from the rest of the citizens. Through some unexpected revelations and some personal secrets from the past, she and Ty try to discover the truth.

I like that Christy Barritt is continuing to write books set in Lantern Beach so I don’t have to let go of these fictional friends yet and love handing out with Cassidy and Ty as they are navigating a new marriage, a new job, and Ty’s dream of opening a place for veterans. There are enough strings left dangling that I’m ready to dive right into the next book in the Lantern Beach PD series.

I obtained this book through Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program. All opinions are my own.

"A dead body has washed ashore."

Police Chief Cassidy Chambers has yet another mystery to solve in what should be a quiet little beach town during the normally quiet off-season. Determining the cause of death just leads to more unanswered questions; who was the man, what was he doing at Lantern Beach, and how long long had his body been in the water?

Other out-of-the-ordinary things have been happening on the island. Questions about the activities of a communal group inside Gilead's Cove have surfaced, after a daring local teen sees a disgusting ritual and takes on gunfire as he catapults over a fence back to safety.

It's a lot for Lantern Beach's short-staffed safety force to process, but with the help of family and friends, pieces of a dangerous puzzle begin to fit together. Eerily, shadows of both Cassidy's and Ty's past seem to be creeping into the picture.

This is one of Christy Barritt's best books . . . . and . . . the story continues in "Attempt to Locate".

I love reading Christy Barritt's novels, and ON THE LOOKOUT is no exception, but I had to give myself 24 hours or so before writing my review.

The world currently looks upon Christianity in an unfavorable light, and the David Koreshes of the world have not helped matters. Barritt creates an all-too-real and very scary scenario with Anthony Gilead and his "retreat" that have set up in Lantern Beach, North Carolina. A dead body that washes up on shore has Police Chief Cassidy Chambers investigating the group, and it doesn't help that it appears the leader knows far more about Cassidy and her husband Ty than either of them is comfortable with.

The good news is that Cassidy solves the case of the dead body; the bad news is that readers have to wait a month for the next chapter in the investigation of the cult-like group. I can hardly wait.

Highly recommended!

ON THE LOOKOUT is the first book in Ms. Barritt's new spin-off series, spun off of the Lantern Beach Mysteries series, and possibly the Lantern Beach Romantic Suspense series. This is a mystery where Cassidy, Ty and the other characters of the other two series mentioned attempt to solve a crime before the criminal eliminates them.

Who-dun-it certainly kept me guessing and there were several twists in the story I never saw coming. There are also several untied threads that I assume will continue into the series. I will be reading Attempt to Locate next.

Ms. Barritt writes a page-turner that will keep you guessing and engrossed in the continuing series as Cassidy embraces her new career as chief of police.

I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

I’m so disappointed I spent my time reading this book. It’s not that it was a bad story (though nothing to brag about). I chose this book because it was a new series by this author who I have read before & enjoyed. The problem I have with this #1 in the series is that there is no closure. It just stops. There is a snippet of book 2 included at the end. This story is left so open ended, I didn’t even realize I’d started book 2 until I noticed “ chapter 1” at the top of the page. I don’t mind a series where characters are carried over from one to the next. But, to continue with the same unfinished story and call it book 2 seems like cheating to me. Why not write one long book and finish the story. Oh, I remember why, that would require us readers to buy only one book😡

This book was not bad, but could have been so much more. The main characters were likeable but did not seem well developed (although, this could be because these characters came another series by this author). Some parts of the book felt repetitive, such as explaining Cassidy's back story. Other times, the writing in this book felt very simplistic. For me, the most frustrating part was the abrupt ending -- which felt more like a ploy to get us to buy the next book rather than a well written cliffhanger. Overall though, it was a pleasant quick read, I'm just not sure I'll continue with the series.

Since Police Chief Cassidy has moved to Lantern Beach it seems sometimes that trouble may have just followed.
With her newly wed husband, personal body guard, and sidekick, former Navy SEAL, Ty Chambers by her side Cassidy is certain she will find out who killed John Doe or atleast why his body washed up on the shores of Lantern Beach.
As Cassidy deals with personal issues all her own, it gets more obvious with each passing day that other demons lurk nearby.
Will she find the missing girl in time or will it be too late, like it was for John Doe?

This was unusual. I have read the other Lantern Beach mystery series. This is part of the Lantern Beach P.D. Series. It’s the first volume. But much of it was a rehash of previous information in the LB series. So it was a little weird. I think it is fine if you did not read the prior series and it will catch you up.

It was interesting to revisit the world of Lantern Beach. However, I was disappointed to discover the story unfinished at the end of the book. I will need to buy the next book of the series to find out what happens next.

I'm not sure what life will look like without Cassidy and Ty in it. But once again, Christy Barritt gives an energized story that is fun to read.
Looking forward to book 2 that came out today!!

“People’s ideals, when mixed with their emotions and feelings of helplessness, could lead to devastation.”

“Thou must suffer for the sake of the cause.”

““Every time I go past, I think of Waco,” Austin said. “And I’m not talking about Fixer Upper. I’m talking about David Koresh.”

Oh man, this was a really good one! It had all of the right elements. There is a new cult present in Lantern Beach, led by a charismatic leader named Anthony Gilead. There is just the right amount of creepiness with the cult and I found it too be very believable and not over the top. After a dead body washes up on shore, Cassidy is on the case! Once again, the dynamic is great between Cassidy and Ty. I also liked how in this one, there were more realistic moments between husband and wife. And there wasn’t any romance in the book, which made this one stand out more. And even better was that I didn’t see the ending coming, which was awesome after guessing the last 5 or so Christy Barritt books. I will say that a lot is left unanswered here, setting the stage for books to come in the series. So I’m very much looking forward to reading the rest of them.

Wow! I have read The Lantern Beach Series that introduced Cassidy and Tyler, and was sad when it ended. So when news of this series came out, continuing their story, I was thrilled! I love these characters and I loved the first book in the Lantern Beach PD Series. I love that all the quirky characters from the original series appear in this book so that we can "catch up" with their lives. I got so engrossed in the Gilead Cove storyline, that I couldn't put this book down. There was another story thread, involving a murder, that may or may not be connected to the cult. That storyline is wrapped up in the first book. However, I know that I will need to read the coming books in the series before there is a resolution to the cult storyline, but that only make s me anxious for the next one, coming later this month I believe.

I received a copy of this book for free, but the opinions are all my own.

Brand new mystery from Lantern Beach

Join Cassidy in her new role as police chief as she is finally ready to settle down and make Lantern Beach her home. When a dead body washes ashore and Cassidy receives word of a missing woman, she begins to wonder if there are connections to the strange happenings at a compound in Lantern Beach. When her husband Ty also reveals that he has a bad feeling that this case may somehow be connected to his past as a Navy Seal, Cassidy is determined to find answers. Will Cassidy have what it takes to protect her husband, and her beautiful island town before evil takes over and destroys everything she loves?

I love Cassidy in this new role as police chief. I also love the addition of her new officer, Dane and his K-9. Lantern Beach P.D. is off to a suspense filled start with the promise of more exciting mysteries to solve!

My eyes were propped open to finish reading since I had to know the ending!

Christy Barritt creates such realistic characters with contemporary issues that readers are sure to enjoy. On the Lookout continues the Lantern Beach Mystery series and mentions characters from the Lantern Beach Romantic Suspense editions.

By all appearances, it seems that something sinister has moved onto the island when a body washes ashore and a mysterious group stakes a claim in a secluded area. More troubling is that Police Chief Cassidy Chambers and her former SEAL husband, Ty, question if the danger has followed one or both of them from past to present.

Note: this is part one of a continuing series. A preview of the next episode appears to insure your interest in the cast and drama.

I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.

If you have read the previous Lantern Beach series, you will see old friends. If not, this is a great introduction to Lantern Beach! Love the setting of this small coastal town. This story focuses on a mysterious dead body, a possible cult group living in the area, and a missing woman. Police Chief Cassidy Chambers is working on the identity of the John Doe who has been discovered in the area and it seems that more and more questions come up than are being answered. As things seem to get more and more dangerous as the investigation continues, Cassidy and her husband Ty try to determine if something from their past may be connected as well. If you like suspense and mystery, this is a great book (and author) to read!

A Complex Mystery

Talk about a great mystery, Christy Barrett has done it again in spades. The new Police Chief is most interesting herself. She is from a wealthy family, but left that area after helping to take down a terrible gang who will look over the world for her. She is a newlywed too. Her husband is special as well as a former Seal team member.

In Lantern Beach, a small Beach side community, an unusual murder investigation begins to look like it has a peculiar tie to a possible cult. But Ty, the former Seal. has an eerie feeling that he somehow has seen the leader in his past. So there are multiple mysteries all in one. Fascinating story which you don't want to miss!!!

I started this book before realizing there were two prequel series. So I went back and read those and just finished this one.

When I heard about this series, I was not expecting it to be wrapped around a cult. Yet, that is the perfect backbone for a creepy and sadly accurate mystery series to wrap around. She brings out some good points about cults and the people who are sucked up in them. The fact that she’s refuting a cult makes it seem to have more substance because it is totally heretical to Biblical teaching, even though I still don’t notice any Scripture being quoted.

Because Ty and Cassidy are married in this one, the romance is really low key. I liked it better than the last series, already.

I really enjoyed "On the Lookout" by Christy Barritt. This is a continuation of Police Chief Cassidy Livingston from the Lantern Beach Mysteries. I like how Christy continued Cassidy's story. I feel like I already know her! But you don't need to read the first series to understand what's going on with this series.

This book starts out with a very suspicious death on the small island. As Cassidy looks into this death, she comes across a very mysterious group on the island. She tries to figure out if they have anything to do with the murder.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys good, clean, romantic suspense fiction. Christy Barrritt continues to be one of my favorite authors.

I received this book from the author for my honest opinion.

I’m glad readers can still hang out at Lantern Beach with the gang we’ve come to love. Cassidy Chambers, the new police chief, seems so real, and it’s great to be able to follow her further adventures. Of course, there’s a dead body and a crime to investigate, and danger always lurks around the corner. Christy Barritt always offers exciting, clean suspense with plenty of tension and intriguing plots. If you have read the series this spun off from, get them too. They are best read in order because of some ongoing mystery, but each stands on its own as a satisfying read. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
