Tsugumi Ōba (Profile in Japanese: 大場 つぐみ), born in Tokyo, Japan, is a writer best known for the manga Death Note. His/her real identity is a closely guarded secret. As stated by the profile placed at the beginning of each Death Note manga, Ōba collects teacups and develops manga plots while holding his knees on a chair, similar to a habit of L, one of the main characters of the series.

There is speculation that Tsugumi Ōba is a pen name and that he is really Hiroshi Gamō. Pointing out that in Bakuman the main character's uncle was a one-hit wonder manga artist who worked on a gag super hero manga, very similar to Gamō and Tottemo! Luckyman in all aspects. Also that the storyboards drawn by Ōba greatly resemble Tottemo! Luckyman in style.

This is kind of a spoiler, but I don't really get why no one has wondered about the credibility of the angels, or rather, everyone just seems to accept at face value that whoever wins the competition becomes god. What does this mean? Why has no one asked what this means?

Anyway, I enjoyed this volume - I liked the philosophical discussions about whether god is necessary and to what extent. Do you do nothing as god, because it's best to leave humans without interfering and there is always the risk of becoming a tyrant? Or do you acknowledge the suffering of the world and seek to change it? Can you change the world as god without becoming a tyrant, or by possessing that power are you already one? Oddly, none of the characters seem to want to fix anything, they just have goals specific to their own desires (though Saki gets the closest to being someone who would try to change the world for the better). I look forward to seeing what the characters decide next!

Platinum End, Vol. 11 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next five chapters (37–41) of the on-going manga series.

The five known God Candidates: Mirai Kakehashi, Saki Hanakago, Yuri Temari, Shūji Nakaumi, and Susumu Yuito gathered at Yūrakuchō District in hopes to have a parley with the unknown sixth and final God Candidate. Instead, they are met by his angel Muni, The Angel of Dustriction, who wants to know what they would do if they were God, before he would even consider introducing his God Candidate – so they do just that as each and every one of them explain what they would do if they became God.

Intrigued by their boldness, Gaku Yoneda appears to the world and the group as the sixth and final God Candidate. He explains his theory that there is no God and that it is humanity that created God and if he becomes God, he would destroy the concept of God and angels. It is here that Shūji Nakaumi defeats and goes sides with Gaku Yoneda.

Their conversation is interrupted when Susumu Yuito discovers snipers that were aimed to kill all six of them, but is shot through the chest for his discovery – the rest of the God Candidates escapes, but it is too late for Susumu Yuito, who has died and Gaku Yoneda takes his body and arrows.

One additional death is noted in this tankōbon, bringing the death toll of the God Candidates to eight with five other still living. Tonma Rodriguez, the comedian was quickly killed off earlier in the series, Shogo Hatakeyama, Saburo Tabuchi, and Chiyo Nakayma were killed when Metropoliman made his reveal to the world at Jinbo Stadium. Hajime Sokotani was killed by Metropoliman during the final battle, with Kanade Uryu being killed by Nanato Mukaido, who succumbed to his cancer, and now Susumu Yuito is killed by a sniper by point blank range during the Yūrakuchō District conference.

Tsugumi Ohba has written another wonderful tankōbon. Finally, all of the God Candidates have been revealed and met and what they would all do when they become God. Shūji Nakaumi wants people who want to die to do so respectfully; Yuri Temari wants a world where people doesn't have to work and have fun; Susumu Yuito wants a world where you can play with your friends and to seek out thrills; Saki Hanakago just want a world of smiles and happiness; Mirari Kakehashi says he would do nothing; and with Gaku Yoneda he would destroy the concept of God. Factions are defined and redefined to what would be hopefully a wonderful climax.

All in all, Platinum End, Vol. 11 is a wonderful continuation of the series and I can't wait to read more. I am intrigued to find out how the story continues.

Review
This story is so enjoyable. I really like the way this is turning for its ending and the discussions about god are very well done. It makes you think while building a nice alternate version of our world and telling a very intriguing, but also a necessary story.

As a side note: I accidentally got this volume in German instead of English, which is annoying for the continuity on the shelves but otherwise doesn't really matter much as I can read German perfectly fine. It did somehow make the start of this volume illogically funny though. Don't ask me why, but it did. It had not impact on my enjoyment overall.

For whom does the bell toll? It tolls for thee.

With all but one God candidate known to each other the game of life and death is nearly at an end as the survivors must debate and philosophize about who is the best choice in the future. Unfortunately although an alliance can be struck the final unknown candidate and any number of world powers are also at play so things are not going to be so simple.

In a gamble the allied candidates expose themselves to the world to coax the final candidate to reveal themselves and what a doozy they find themselves facing when he agrees at last. A man of world renown and respect (but scary of visage) has taken center stage with a theory about the competition and of the entity known as God itself as allied sides are redrawn, negotiations are interrupted, and the world chimes in after being exposed to the truths hidden amongst them since the beginning of the Platinum End.

Mirai, Saki, Susumu, Yuri, and Shuji appear in the middle of the city to publicly announce their intentions should they become god and to prompt the sixth god candidate, Professor Yoneda, to appear and join the conversation. Which he does and instead opens a discussion on the nature of god. Basically, a very D&D / American Gods style of godhood where god only exists because there are people who actually believe in them. Meaning they can live and die the same way as humans if their worship dies out.

But then everything goes sideways when the government tries to get involved.

This series has 14 volumes.

Ugh...really? The series all of a sudden wants to be anti-religious and go on a "there's no God" story in a series with angels, demons, and spiritual powers?! Isn't it a little late in the game for that? Look, I know the Japanese are a largely atheist country - you see these views in works like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts all the time - but if you want to make a point that God doesn't exist, MAYBE it's a good idea if your series doesn't HAVE a God in it?! Just maybe...?!

Humanity created God in their image.
Which came first, Man or God?

Prof. Gaku Yoneda:
God is unnecessary. God does not exist.
The age in which we needed Gods is over. There is nothing to be gained from praying to God. Our time is too important to waste in that way.

This volume made me think about DarkMatter2525's video "God's God". Check it out on YouTube.

All 6 candidates to God come together to hear each other vows on what they would do as God and who should be chosen.

An interesting conversation about God and what it represents is taken between the candidates. A conversation that goes beyond fiction, touching the deepest philosophic thoughts about the subject.

Will all candidates survive this encounter?

Vedremo...

The final GOD canidate is revealed to be a "genius'' professor at Tokyo University, Gaku Yoneda. Susumu is killed by the police at an outing with all the GOD canidates, and Yoneda takes his arrows and rings.

Me ha durado un suspiro! Esta súper interesante el debate sobre quién tiene que ser Dios, pero un giro de los acontecimientos te deja con la boca abierta y ves que todo se va a torcer. Con ganas que salga el siguiente!

This manga went from a decent amount of action to SO MUCH TALKING. And I'm just not really enjoying the direction. I intend to finish it since I have less than 20 chapters to go but I'm becoming more and more disappointed every volume
