I've read this book dozens of times to my kids and never really enjoyed it hugely. The illustrations are okay. There's a tiny bit of information about the animals, but there's no true story. It's just an opportunity to look at pictures of animals with your kids.

That said, this is also an important part of a child's development and as an introduction to the concept of reading time, it's great for short attention spans. It's one I'd probably read to future grandchildren, but I'm really wavering about keeping until those imaginary grandchildren come into my life. I'll probably throw this into a giveaway box for someone else to enjoy.

Meet some animals at the zoo in this short little book.

Moral: There are lots of fun animals at the zoo.

Length: Very short. Very easy to read aloud.

Favorite Line: “The baby zebra’s stripes are brown.”

Overall impression: This book is not exhaustive. You’ll assuredly name more animals missing during this role-call of animals at a zoo. So think of it as a companion piece to your real zoo trips and you won’t be as disappointed as I was when I failed to see any penguins or polar bears.

I recently introduced the two children I babysit to YouTube videos of animal noises. Some of their favorites are the zoo animals (zebras especially), so this book was fun with that additional knowledge available to us. Each page introduced a new animal and a little about it, ending with various different zoo animal babies--and who doesn't love babies?

This is an okay book about different types of animals that may be in the zoo. I realize it's supposed to be a very simple book but they could probably have given more information to make it more interesting for young kids as well as say "great gray owl" instead of "owl." (I could be wrong at the type of owl it was) Very quick read.

I recently started going through books from my grandmothers, reading ones both I remember and those I don't but are very old while I was babysitting a friends kid.

This is one I am don't remember this one being read to me but reading it I like it and can tell a big difference from books for children of today then those over 35 years ago.

What I found most interesting about this book was that it was in the shape of the zebra on the front cover, it outlined its head. The rest of the book just has to be illustrated to go along with the shape whether it is talking about zebras or not. The cover was very bright, but only included the image of a zebra, when it is to be talking about zoo animals. The first spread is an image of three giraffes and you can only see them from their shoulders up, but in the background you can see a lone giraffe with people around looking at it. The very next animal that got covered was that of a leopard. It takes up the whole spread and matches up perfectly along the gutter of the book. It is behind a cage and has bright yellow eyes. There is only was spread in the whole book that has two separate images, and that is off spider monkeys and of a chimpanzee eating a banana. The illustrator and author of this book was the same person, but it looks like there was more time in the illustrations than of the wording. There is no plot, it just illustrates the different kind of animals that are present in a zoo. This book is a very easy read, but it would definitely catch the attention of child, as the details of the animals are so in depth as the textures are defined, even to the hair in a zebra's ear.

The Zoo Book is a nonfiction book for young children kindergarten and above. This book has many pictures of different animals that would be in a zoo. There is information about the animal’s physical features as well as some things that the reader should know about its habitat. The language was easy to understand and read. The pictures in the book were colorful and bright. This book can be used to educate young children about the animals in a zoo. It could be used to also identify colors and understand how certain animals live. Many activities and lessons can be drawn from this book. It is a great teaching tool.

A short book on zoo animals; this is an interesting book for young children, with colorful pictures and a short narrative. Baby animals are shown with older ones and there are some interesting facts - I didn't know that baby zebras have brown stripes! Our girls enjoyed this book a lot.
