Kacey: The First Premise

Rate this book
Hunter Fitz keeps running from his past, but the dark claws of memory follow him everywhere he goes. Taking another new job in another new city, Hunter hopes that maybe, just once, he can finally settle down.

Then he meets Kacey Reynolds, a free-spirited student who is as beautiful as he is exasperating, to say nothing of the unbearable arousal Hunter feels whenever the boy is around.

Hunter knows he can't give in to temptation. He's managed to stay celibate for two decades, and breaking that streak would make him just as bad as them.

But Kacey might prove more than he can resist.

**This book contains content of a taboo nature.** Also contains one stern logic professor who's haunted by his past, one sassy FTM trans student with an affinity for makeup and belly dancing, and philosophical musings on different cultures' views on sex and relationships.

(Note: This story takes place in a fictional world, the same as in the Shifting Isles Series. There are multiple gods, different names for the days of the week, etc. A glossary is included.)

G.R. Lyons

G.R. Lyons stumbled into writing as a form of trauma recovery when traditional therapy wasn't working.

Then the story ideas just kept on coming.

Pulling from a vivid imagination as well as real-life experience as a trans man, a sexual assault survivor, and a person living with mental illness, Lyons has written multiple, interconnected series set within his fictional world of the Shifting Isles.

When not writing, Lyons can be found belly dancing around the house, studying anarcho-capitalist philosophy, buried in his never-ending TBR pile, or working out at the local CrossFit gym.

No, thank you. I'm not really keen on professors and students. But if it's a good story, it's fine. However, I absolutely draw the line at profs misusing their position. "But it advances the story", is not good enough reason in my eyes. No, thank you.

Ok. Damn. I'm still reeling. I'm at a loss, really, trying to wrap my mind around the Hunter I knew from the other story and this Hunter. Two totally different people. Which brings me to a point. This is not a happy, happy story. It is quite dark. There are possibilities of triggers. There's borderline rape, the illusion of rape and abuse in the past, not necessarily non-consensual sex, but not exactly whole consensual either. I kind of have a hard time with books that border that non-con line or cross it, but it was G.R. so I had to read it. The writing is exceptional. No doubt about it. Its a whole mess of stuff I'm trying to figure out because I know these characters lol. And Kacey's stepfather, along with Hunter, both know Vic, so there's more going on. Plus Kacey's stepfather and Mom have both slipped with things they've said, so I REALLY want to know what happened and where this is going. You don't have to read the other stories, but if you want to kind of be clued in, you definitely need to read the Treble and the Lost Boys series. You'll meet Vic and find out how he connects to things and meet Hunter for the first time. Another exceptional series.
I am blown away. Thoroughly blown away. Another good series it seems, for me anyway.

Oh my gods! This book ticks off so, so many things on the dark taboo check list, it’s delicious. Kasey is so bright, bold and fun. He wants so many things he shouldn’t but doesn’t care, he’s stubborn enough to keep trying. Hunter is mysteriously intriguing and has an interesting evolution. He keeps everything in life under control, that’s his way of keeping his dark past from coming forward. But a bold move from Kasey completely shatters his control. Constantly trying to regain the upper hand he focuses his confusion and frustration over Kasey into some very questionable and manipulative outlets.

This is not an HEA, but very clearly a part 1 (of 3) and I can’t wait for what the rest will bring... I still have so many questions!! I wouldn’t call the ending a cliffhanger, it’s more like a door opening. You know there’s more and you want it, but it’s a good place to pause.

I should note that I went into this book blind, this is a totally new-to-me author, I only knew a few of the touchy topics to ensure that I would be ok with it. This means that I haven’t read it’s predecessor series Treble and the Lost Boys or Shifting Isles which I understand is where the world first appears in. However, I found the world fascinating and incredibly well built and I will absolutely be catching up on the other series!

*Volunteered to read this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Purchased because I loved it and wanted to give as much support as possible.

Hmm okay I'm keep this short lol oops, I'm a huge fan of this authors books and have LOVED every one of them. This story started out great with Hunter and Kasey but as I got to know Hunter's character I struggled to finish the book. I didn't like him one bit and by the end seals it maybe this is just me with the thriller part of the book. Kasey's character is a beautiful one being Trans Male and he wanted to be loved, focusing his attentions on the older Hunter and Austin. This has the surprises included which was a WOW. This is a dark story with scenes that are triggers. Questions arouse as I read which are left hanging probably for the next book. I loved reading Vic's character from previous books sneaking into this one.

Amazing story!!

This book has it all. Kacey is an ftm transgender. His views on love are very taboo. Hunter is a very strict professor who has a dark past and has been celibate for 2 decades due to it. He meets Kacey who is a very charismatic femme male. Hunter is very attracted to Kacey and tries to hold his ground. That doesn't work for Kacey, he wants the professor. This book shows what happens when fate gets tempted and Hunter comes undone. The dark claws of his past come out and he enjoys it all. If you don't like books that are taboo in nature, then this is not for you. But if you do, I promise you won't be disappointed!! This book has a steamy factor of 100!!

Kacey is trans, FTM, he loves the life he’s created. One of his professors has caught his interest and he can’t get the thoughts of this man out of his head.

Hunter is in a new place with new hopes that life will finally get better. When he starts obsessing on a student, all the cravings in his life come back full force. Pushing him back into the dark places once again.

I’ve thought on this review for a while. Kacey was a very likable young man. I felt that him being transgender was well done. Hunter on the other hand was impossible for me to like. I struggled with one word to describe him, (thanks to a friend and fellow reader I found the perfect word). Deviant, fits him perfectly.

I’ve read the authors others stories set in this world and liked them all. This book is very different from them. I did enjoy this one too. Just be prepared for a dark themed book with “deviant“ behavior. The set up for the next book looks like it should be a very interesting read.

Wow!!!

This book is absolutely beyond what I have ever read before. The characters are deep, dark, and colorful. Lyons has completely created a whole new perspective and has open my eyes. Kasey is a character that makes a lasting impression for sure.

I found myself unable to put it down and wait with baited breath for the next book.

Oh. My. HOT.

I have been looking forward to this book for so long and let me tell you.... it lived up to every single expectation. It’s dark, campy at times, with such a strong male lead in Kacey that the story pulls you right in. And to say that more than one scene had me shivering is putting it mildly. This is a fabulous read, hats off to the author!

Kacey: The First Premise by GR Lyons is the first book in a series, Transitivity, and I need the other books NOW! Seriously, this book took me on a journey and I need to continue on and see where this all leads to.

The story is well written, with interesting characters and an intriguing storyline. The book is set in a fictional world that uses unique names for the days of the week and other things. So, no, that was not a typo, the year written in that sentence really is 3598. Do not fear though, there is a helpful glossary included that you should check out before reading. ;) The world created here really is unique and well described. My attention was grabbed, held captive and never faltered from this taboo and fantastic tsle!

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

Wow! Kacey is so charismatic, confident and self aware that he completely came to life. Hunter is a fascinating character with so much mystery about him. The storyline was great, the intrigue, sexual chemistry, and plot just captivated me, and took me along for the ride. Loved it!

Kacey: The First Premise, by G.R. Lyons is a deliciously dark and taboo escape. This won’t be for everyone, with its themes of dubious consent, sexual abuse of power, and borderline rape. For others it will be a real treat. Set in G.R.’s fantasy world, you recognize several characters from other series and witness a different, yet gloriously wicked side to most.

FTM (female to male) transitioning Kacey Reynolds lacks experience; nevertheless, he is blatantly aware of his sexual desires and his daddy issues. Technically, he’s not crossing into taboo territory but is definitely skirting the edge with his desires, fantasies, and encounters. Kasey is bright, with an outgoing personality, adventurous nature, and confidence that positively shines throughout the story.

Starting over, Professor Hunter Fitz optimistically looks for things to turn around for him. Yet, his internal cravings and his outward attractions churn his lurid memories and the “dark claws” emerge once again. I love the allusiveness and mystery surrounding Hunter and I possess a deep desire to understand what shapes this man. A man who you mutually hate and harbor compassion for as he unequivocally draws you to him.

…the interaction between Kacey and Hunter is oddly entertaining and their eventual coupling is wicked hot and arousing.

Kacey represents light and goodness, albeit of the slightly kinky variety. Hunter almost completely represents darkness. The immediate attraction between them is intense, as Kacey shamelessly flirts while Hunter pretends Kacey doesn’t exist. Nonetheless, the interaction between Kacey and Hunter is oddly entertaining and their eventual coupling is wicked hot and arousing.

It is beautiful to see Kacey’s easy acceptance of his transition. I have to smile and chuckle at some of the “benefits” he says he has because of his transition. Kacey is one horny young man with a fierce imagination. There is little to no angst around his transition making it feel completely natural – just the way it should be.

Kacey: The First Premise is just the beginning to G.R. Lyons’ Transitivity series. As such, there isn’t a happy ending per se, but a beginning of sorts. Several questions remain unanswered that we assume will close as the series continues. This is especially true when it comes to Hunter and his tragic childhood. It may be supposition on my part, knowing a few of the supporting characters, but this is one of those situations where I don’t want to know what’s in his past, yet I just can’t look away.

Kacey: The First Premise is set in the same fictional world as other books by G.R. Lyons and the characters here tie back to his other stories. It is not necessary to venture outside the Transitivity series to enjoy Kacey: The First Premise, but I encourage you to add them to your reading list.

This book was definitely taboo but so so good!!! Kacey is an adorable sweetheart, and he tries so hard to get his needs met. Hunter is deliciously morally ambiguous, and quite the mystery! I’m really excited to read the next book and see where this story goes!

Okay, so I was kinda into this book and kinda confused. Reading about Hunter felt like he was in some kind of previous book that this author wrote, maybe something about his past? I kept feeling like I was out of the loop on what was happening.

The whole story eventually turns a little dark... it isn’t really a romance I guess.

Hunter... he’s a professor and he’s an asshole. I wanted to like him but as soon as he started having his students give him sexual favors/fucking them for grades and blackmailing them to let Hunter fuck them in exchange for not turning them in, giving them zeros, or dropping them from the class... fuck no. And he blames it on his “darkness” or “dark claws” or whatever. Assuming that means his past coming back to haunt him. Still, that is no excuse to be the fucked up person he is... ugh.

I want Kacey with Austin. Austin feels like a genuinely good person and it’s what Kacey deserves. He might be his stepdad or whatever, but hey. I started reading this because it supposedly had taboo aspects in here. Maybe Hunter is really Kacey’s father? Maybe Austin is actually her biological father? Her uncle, with that weird convo her mom had with Austin? Who knows. Family ties, idgaf. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hunter is a bastard. And he wanted to break Kacey. It makes me sick. He came up with a plan to rape Kacey. He did it on purpose, yet it backfired because Kacey ended up enjoying it. But GD I was so furious. I don’t know what it is but ughhhhhh I hate him.

I want to continue this series but yet I kinda don’t. I haven’t decided. Maybe I’ll take a break and revisit this later.

This is the first book by G.R. Lyons I've read, but it certainly won't be the last. I absolutely adored Kacey, from his confidence in his sexuality to his quirky style. I also loved that he was confident in his body. It was important for me to see a trans character who isn't burdened with horrible dysphoria and instead celebrates his body. His relationship with both Hunter and Austin was amusing to read, and when , I was just as excited as Kacey was.
Hunter, on the other hand, is the dark to Kacey's light. He's burdened by his past and the urges he has. There were definitely some dub-con moments in regards to him, and make no mistake, he's definitely twisted. But I still felt for him. I'm not one to shy away from dark characters, and he definitely is that. I'm interested to read more about him and his past to see how that's shaped who he is at the present. And I'm incredibly excited to read book 2 and see how his relationship with Kacey progresses.
I wouldn't say there's an HEA at the end of this book. In fact, for most of the book, Hunter and Kacey aren't together. BUT It's definitely worth reading, and it'll leave you gagging for the second in the series. I know I am! If you're into dark, twisted, taboo characters, this one's definitely the one for you.

Many thoughts. I wasn’t expecting what happened in this book at all. This is my first book from this author and I know this series is a spin-off of other worlds, but it does well enough as a stand-alone that I wasn’t bothered. I might at some point read some of the other series, but I’m curious to finish this one first.

This is dark. It goes dark places and Hunter, the main character, is a horrible person. You do get a sense of his dark past and that he’s a victim of that, but that he’s also carrying on the cycle of abuse by what he does to his students. I considered DNF’ing when the book turned in that direction. It’s hard to read. But something compelled me to keep going, and I don’t have many triggers, so I kept reading.

There’s a whole underlying mystery going on that I want to know about, and I want to see how this story continues, but that said, I don’t know if I can rate this first one. The writing was good, but it’s hard to reconcile that with the fact that most of the POV was from a r*pist. Like I said, I don’t have many triggers, but there are things that still bother me or make me uncomfortable to read in fiction. This was definitely one of those, while at the same time keeping me invested with Kacey’s character and figuring out what the mystery is at the heart of it all.

So for now, no rating. It might come later.

This is the worst book I've read this year! I finished it because I thought there might be something that I was missing. Nope!

The main character Hunter is a rapist. He abuses his position of power to have sex with his students. The guy is pretty much slime. The author kept saying something about some dark force within him. That's nice but he's still a rapist. He blackmails one of his students who works in his apartment building to make him a key to Kacey's apartment so he can sneak in. Does this crap happen in real life? BTW, Kacey moved into Hunter's apartment building after finding out where Hunter lives. Kacey is pretty screwed in the head as well.

As for Kacey, I don't believe in kink shaming. If he wants to sleep with the guy he thought was his stepfather, Austin, go for it. But he keeps trying to seduce Austin without any results and it gets pretty tedious. Give it up for goodness sake!

The author drops a little bombshell that his stepfather is really his uncle-his mother's brother. But his mom and uncle are married, but they don't seem to have any sort of romantic life so that leaves me confused more than anything.

The book is pretty dark and has plenty of taboo subjects, but I think it fails at being edgy and just ends up being gross.

This was a dark story, which I consider a psychological thriller rather than a romance. Hunter had a tragic youth, which turned him into a seriously messed up adult. Kacey was a sweet and optimistic young man, who had a fixation with his stepfather. When these two met, nothing would ever be the same again for either of them.
I had a really hard time with some aspects of this story. I enjoy taboo stories, but this didn't have the aspects I usually like in those. The darkness in Hunter made me sad and anxious. I wanted him to heal from his past, but I also wanted to save Kacey and everyone else from him. And I loved Kacey, but I wanted him to have better self protection instincts.
The story was very well written, and I was certainly engrossed. I honestly haven't decided yet if I will read the next part of Kacey and Hunter's story, since I know it will be just as difficult - if not more so. But a part of me wants to see where that will take me. I also want to see what happens when Hunter's past rears its head. I'm not sure, but I might just have to find out.

I found this book when I was searching for some Daddy kink, Daddy and twink never goes wrong.
Though the blurb never prepared me for how the book actually is, it gave me a much more sunshine outlook on what I could expect.

This is not sunshine by a long shot, it's dark and messy.

For Kacey, having his stepfather would be perfect and even more so, his professor along with it. And he goes to long lengths in his attempts to tempt either man to want him.
Hunter have been celibate for twenty years, to keep the darkness of his past from consuming him, only it just takes a too eager Kacey to unravel it.
And the Hunter you have endearing feelings for in the start as he dodges the boys advances, twists to darkness.

He manipulates to get what he wants, but somehow excuses his behaviour, still seeming vulnerable when it comes to Kacey.

I had so many moments in this book where I thought "This is so fucked up." And it is.
But it also shows what a horrid childhood can do to someone that is barely holding on in the first place.

Book: Kacey
Series:The First Premise (Transitivity Book 1)
Author: G R Lyons
Publisher: Amazon Digital
Release: February 9th, 2019

Genre:Transexual Romance
Rated: Mature

GR Lyons newest series is taboo themed, yet intriguing, Kacey we learn is a college student, a virgin, a female to male trans, with a daddy issue. Soooo if this is your hard line this might not be your choice to read.

In saying this, although a bit uncomfortable, I continued the book and was enchanted by Kacey. His bright look at life, his good heart, wanted something that was his, although it was taboo.

Kacey wanted his step father Austin to make love to him…..Austin, who I wanted to strangle…….and Kacey also chose his messed up professor Hunter…… who I wanted to know why he was that way!

I must admit although the subject was dark,,,,Kacey was the star shining brightly thru the entire book. Austin is Book 2….and I will follow up with it……

Great start to a new series. Definitely a new kind of read for me and I love it. Kinda dark and twisted and you can't stop wanting to know what happens next. Hunter is a sexy teacher with a dark past that haunts him, we see him slowly start to turn into something he didn't think would happen. Even seeing his dark side you still crave him and want him to get what he needs. Kacey is adorable, cute and sweet and a new character to read for me being Trans so I was surprised I liked it so much. Kacey is out to finally live his best life and going after his professor and step-dad are just the cherry on top. Loved the plot and seeing how the pieces are coming together. I want to know what happened to Hunter, what Austin is hiding and how Kacey can bring them all together. With the way book 1 ends you will want to jump right into book 2 because things are heating up and I can't wait to see what happens next.

First I've ever read a book taking place from a different world. I do enjoy MM romance, but this was not the norm. A 20 yr celibate Professor is no longer after a blowjob from a particular student who had an immediate crush on him. From there on, any male student coming into his office for help, the Professor sees that as an opportunity to have sex whether he agrees to the help or not. But still has obsession with blowjob boy who he gets connected to in a weird dark way later, but still plays with the other boys when they come to his office. Professor has a dark past which is later revealed in 2nd or 3rd book. Not sure as I have no intention to continue this series. It took me too long getting through this 1st one as it just didn't grab my attention and that rarely happens in my reading, although I have to always finish what I start. Just wasn't for me.

I had a difficult time rating this book properly, but in the end I decided it’s a well written story so it deserves a good rating.
The problems I had, were my issues and are not a reflection on the writer.
First of all I loooooved Kacey. He is so sweet and lovely and he deserves the world!
But..... I really really did not like Hunter! What he did to those students was not okay. I hated him so much that I almost stopped reading. But of course I didn’t because I wanted to know what would happen.
The book was a bit too long imo, I was checking the page count a few times which is never a good sign...
The worls building was interesting, although not necessary for this story. Fortunately, It didn’t distract from the story.
Can’t wait to find out more about Austin and what his role is going to be.

I rarely if ever give one star reviews and I do not have a problem with either incest, dub-con or non-con. I normally even enjoy it in books. However, this one really rubbed me the wrong way because it stopped making sense at about 40%. Kacey was great through and through, but Hunter? I got a whiplash from his character turning his life around by 180 degrees and going down the drain real fast. I absolutely struggled to even finish the book and was ultimately just annoyed, disappointed and even kind of bored through all the repetitions of the sexual encounters. So, needless to say, I will not be continuing the series.

This is the first book I have read of G.R. Lyons.
Kasey is a trans guy who is beautiful inside and out .
I found I was drawn into this book more and more I couldn't leave it ..
Some parts I wondered if I would continue but I did!
I could understand the need that rises from Kasey and Hunter .
A pure sexual need to have .

Hunter has a very dark past .
Did I like Hunter - not at all but I think in the next book I will understand his past more.
All in all Hunter is deviant and that word sums him up.
An extremely dark book it was written very well and I shall read book two.

Oh My Wow!

This is deep. It’s also darker than the Dandies series. Once you dive into this it as you thinking all the way through. Once you sink your teeth into this delicious read you will not want to stop. It is a HFN rather than an HEA but it just makes you want more. With all the thought and events you think you know how this will go but you don’t and that was an extra bit of awesomeness.

Dark but delightful

I never fail to be surprised at what new dark and twisted idea comes out of this author's mind but I liiiiive for each and every single one of them. Every dark, twisted, taboo and controversial theme is always perfectly executed. Kacey is no exception. The extent of the taboo themes were slowly revealed as characters became more and more morally ambiguous, and I LOVED it.

So unique and sexy

This is book 1 but I already know I’m hooked!
The universe the author builds is so creative and unique.
Kacey and Hunter are truly interesting characters and very unpredictable. It keeps the story flowing at a fast pace which I loved. When you get to the end, you will definitely be wanting more.more.more!
