I'm Taking Aven Crey, thanks!

Excellent pacing, mysterious plotting, gallons of sexual tension, and lovely world-building. If I can't spend all day riding horses in that beautiful country setting, Aven will do. Thanks! Onto book three!

Where do I start?!
This is the second book in the Aeon Chronicles, and April just swept me away into the story. I couldn't put it down, and it was over much too quick for my tastes.
She painted the world in the future, but it doesn't seem too far into the future. It's eerily something that could happen. And Vegas! Vegas was its own character in this story.
This is a strong second book, showing the consequences of choices made in book one.
I fell in love with Aven, Claire, Will, Kitten, and even Laura!
I want to punch Tony and Vincent...
I'll let you read the book to find out why!

I'm eagerly awaiting the next book. If you want a book that'll sweep you away into a beautiful world of want, need, right, wrong, love, passion, and the future...this is the book series for you!

There are very few books that leave me breathless, but this was one of them. After reading Book 1, I didn't think April Woodard could top the story, but she proved me dead wrong. Aven, Claire and Will take you on a journey through a dystopian Las Vegas that is not that far off in the future and following their journey of discovery is nothing short of beautiful. You just want to yell at the characters and tell them all about their pasts will drive you crazy...in a fantastic way. I cannot recommend this book highly enough as the Aeon Chronicles are a life-changing read for anyone who truly loves good storytelling.

The Aeon Chronicles II is a whole new world. The author completely draws the reader into the lives of the characters she has created. One can feel the tensions and struggles of each individual and in their interactions with each other. Each person plays his role well. The story begins in Las Vegas, a perfect setting. There are flashbacks, little pieces of another life, but the pieces aren’t clear. Romance brings conflict and confusion. This is a page turner for sure, which at the very end leaves the reader hanging with the question where is book three Ms. Woodard? I want more.

I recently read the first book and continued on with the second book after chatting with the author.

I would like to start off with saying I do really enjoy the authors writing style. She does an excellent job painting interesting scenes and immersing you in this dystopian world she created.

In addition, I really enjoyed the night between Clare and Aven the intimacy and tenderness was really well done. Balancing connection and the draw they have to one another. Again much like the first book Aven is the star of the show with a large range of emotional depth.

However the other characters compared to him fall a bit flat. Clare is innocent and described as angelic but she seems to just be along for the ride and lacks real autonomy. She also lacks any true flaws, I would have liked to see her make more wrong choices.

Will also the angelic “good” one lacked a lot of emotional depth with the exception of his interactions with Aven which were tense and showed a darker side of Will which made him more interesting. Though I suspect book 3 will focus more on his character development.

Also there was a scene that dealt with an autistic child and I felt the representation was not great. Especially when the child “fakes a seizure” and it’s implied they possess a deeper spiritual tie, likely due to their autism.
I really didn’t care for it. It could have been emitted and the story would have still been solid.

In addition, I hated Clare’s friend Laura, she is the absolute worst. When Clare was going through issues that revolved her safety she was more concerned about if Clare got laid.

I think the plot was ok, it is setting up a series of books and left a lot of loose ends. However, I’m not sure if I would continue on with book 3.

I did receive a free copy for my honest review.

What I thought: Oh man, what a ride. You can see where April learned between book one and two (really it was just the POVs - her characters are still great and memorable and her story is still compelling). Aven Crey is so far my favorite character, but then again - the fallen angel trope is just so sexy to both write and read. He is more than just the stereotypical tortured soul - he is literally tortured. Watching him fight to be good (or at least his idea of good) is so fascinating. I know Claire should be with Will but at the moment I am full Team Aven! This book made everything I experienced in the first book that much more meaningful. I love seeing how the characters from one Aeon fit together in the next. But I have always been a sucker for reincarnation stories. The book left me desperate to know what happens next. April! I'm waiting!!!

Aven gave her wrist a gentle tilt and let go, letting Claire reveal the glinting crown charm in her hand.
"For my nickname at the bar?"
"No," Aven corrected gently. He snapped the charm onto her bracelet. "To remember to hold your head high." He lifted her chin. "Never look down or the crown slips. You have a beautiful soul, Claire. Never be ashamed of who you are."

Wow, I liked book one, but book two blew me out of the water! What a page turner!

Laura cracked me up and I loved that Claire pushed herself out of her comfort zone.
Will is totally Nicholas Sparks swoon-worthy, butttttttt Aven Crey has my heart. This bish likes a bad boy!

Pacing: medium/fast, faster the second half of the book

Favorite character: Aven Crey, duhhhhh!

Romance: sweet

Overall: 4/5⭐

Wow. I loved this book! I often find the second book in a series dull, but that wasn't the case with The Aeon Chronicles II. I was engaged from the very beginning and captivated until the heart-wrenching end. The tension and banter between the characters was fantastic, and I loved watching the beloved characters and relationships unfold in this new world. Woodard did a brilliant job. Highly recommend.
