If danger shows up uninvited, how far would you go to keep your family safe? In the middle of a brutal Northern California winter, Walter Sloane cranks up a homemade radio anticipating nothing but static. When a commanding voice proclaims a new America is rising, Walter rushes to tell the others. He doesn’t know a much bigger problem is already at his door. Can a new alliance survive the ultimate test? Tracy Sloane is winding down a twenty-four hour shift guarding a pharmacy in the middle of town. When two strangers show up ready for battle, she barely makes it out alive. If she can’t convince the Jacobsons to do what’s right, their new alliance might be dead on arrival—literally. The end of the world brings out the best and worst in all of us. Faced with the prospect of war with a neighboring group and the threat of military intervention from afar, the Sloanes find themselves between a rock and a hard place. They’ll have to fight for their survival, their future, and their way of life. Every decision might be their last. The EMP is only the beginning. Hope Survives is book nine in the After the EMP series, a post-apocalyptic thriller series following ordinary people trying to survive after a geomagnetic storm destroys the nation’s power grid.

I'm going to write this up as a series book review instead of doing each book individually, because nine books!! And at the end of those nine books, I still wanted more. All my good intentions of writing up each book review separately flew out the window, once I finished one book I couldn't wait to get onto the next.

This was hours of fun and for me it ticked so many boxes, I've only got a few EMP books under my belt, I'm more a zombie kind of girl, but maybe this series has given the zombie gore a run for its money, because this series had it all. So much action, so much heartbreaking moments, loved ones lost along the way, so many times when they'd been captured adding an extra beat to my heart. And of course I love that survival aspect, only the strong survive, hunting, scavenging for food, I love stories which surround having to think on their feet, and gather the required supplies to survive.

I also came away with two favourites and that would be Dani and Colt. In this last book of the series I wish we had more scenes with Dani, I loved her character, so tough and resilient, I'm so glad she found a father in Colt, even though not by blood you could see and feel that bond between them.

And like with most stories in this genre there is zero romance or spicey scenes, I'm not sure why that is..But there we have it..It's like a consensus amongst the author population when it comes to this genre and zombie books..

This won't be the last book I read by this author, I'm off to grab another book to see if I'll enjoy it as much as this one..

How the whole group survives is amazing when some of them continue to do stupid things without thinking about consequences

As EMP stories go this was mediocre at best. Lot of action

Lots of action but poorly written with no characters that you want love. With the power out survivors scrap by while others want take what you have. Having read many of this gender lot of the situations are too easy over come. The villainous family was eliminated much too easy. The problems of no electrical power was mentioned several times over the nine books but never solved with the simple fix of solar panels. The potential for another season is possible. I read books 1-4 then skipped to 9 because the plot became a repeat.

I have liked this series quite a bit but this book seems to follow a more familiar formula of one-dimensional bad guys, girls get grabbed, girls get rescued. I kind of liked the Jacobsons as antagonists a little better because they were trying to do what they considered to be the right thing unlike the Cunninghams that felt justified in grabbing and doing whatever their fire power permitted. The specter of a reformed government has a lot of ominous potential though.

Finished the last book in the After the EMP by Harley Tate and it was great. Loved the characters, how even in this book they had more obstacles to overcome. Was still action-packed. Loved to see how the characters worked together. I recommend all 9 books. Found Harley Tate’s address, he isn’t too far fro my Rheumatologist at Piedmont.

Really loved this series. Great ending and great characters and storyline. I love how there are different main characters you get to know who end up coming together as allies. I found myself not being able to put this series down, reading almost a new book every day. I enjoyed it. Was a great story world to throw myself into over the last week or two.

Simple life

It's been a while since I read book 8. I had forgotten this series was non-stop action. I'll have to stop and take a breath. By book 9, it's plain to see we all need to live the simple life. Fantastic series!

Good series!

Having read the full series, the characters are well known and believable in their actions and responses. I would like to see what happens in the following months. Will the government be restored? Will energy? Civility?
Harley, we want more!

That's it?????

I sure hope you have plans to continue with this series. It has been left wanting big time! The only reason I'm giving it a four I instead of a 10 is because it's unfinished!😕

As always her writing is very good and her character s are exceptional.

Sometimes her use of words sound like she found in Thearsus (don't know if I spelled correctly). It does not as natural as most of her writing.

Surviving isn't easy...

Our characters have had to evolve into tougher versions of their former selves in order to survive in the changing world after the EMP. This 9th book hasn't disappointed me. Still enjoy seeing what happens next...

Interesting Series

The Sloanes and their friends have to contend with winter and a vicious group of survivors that want what the Sloanes have and are willing to kill and take what they want. On a broader front, Walter hears a radio announcement from a new government.

My Musings

This book has so much going on in it. While it is exciting, it's almost too much that it's exhausting to read. This ending for me left something hanging out there, but I am glad it's not continuing. Happy ☺reading 📚!

Good ending

I'm glad the series ended on a positive note. I read all 9 of these in a row, or this one might've gotten a 4th star. Just tired of the killing and greed, and ready for a different type of book for a while.
Maybe these characters actually living in peace for a year.

Amazing how much it sucks you in

Compelling, imaginative, engaging. Character development, at times somewhat contrived, but original enough for me. Good fiction and the whole series a real page Turner.

So many twists and turns but all my favorites pull through. Inventive plot turns keep one guessing. Who are the census takers? You can not stop yet.

What an amazing book, there is a constant stream of action going on. This last book held me read right through because I couldn't put it down. I loved all the characters they all played their part very well. It was upsetting when anyone was hurt or killed. I highly recommend Harley Tate and the After the EMP series.
