These a very good reads. If you've lived in Mpls and been up to the North Shore this one was especially fun. My husband and I were just up on the North Shore all the way to Grand Portage right before Thanksgiving. You know all the places she describes and she gives some history of the areas. This setting you find in this most recent book. The others take place out in Maine on the windjammer.

I missed the coast of Maine in this installment. Living in the are where these mysteries have taken place has been fun and also it's great to get a glimpse into places I really didn't now much about. That being said, I enjoyed being introduced to Minnesota. I want to visit now! The action was good and it was nice to get a new insight into Brie. It got a little predictable. Glad she is going back to Maine!

This is the 6th book in the Windjammer series and like LeClair's earlier books (I've read 4) it is a good read. I found the plot somewhat predictable; either my detective skills are improving or I'm getting accustomed to the author's thought process. The story builds on her previous work and does a nice job of tying up some loose ends.

“Death in the Blood Moon” is the sixth novel in the Windjammer Mystery Series by Jenifer LeClair. It’s a mystery that will keep you interested from the first page to the last.
Brie Beaumont, a homicide detective with the Minneapolis Police Department, has just prepared to return home to Minnesota after a six-month hiatus in Maine. She is returning to her job to solve one last case, the all-but-cold case of her partner’s shooting death 17 months earlier. The case that also left her gravely wounded. After a short stay at home she finds that threatening messages have been mailed to her while she was away and takes a short vacation to a cabin on Lake Superior with her mother. But instead of a peaceful time with Edna, she is wary. Her suspicions turn out to be warranted when a murder occurs right outside their cabin.
Now Brie has two cases she longs to solve. Although the murder up North at first glance, appears to have nothing to do with Detective Beaumont, she has the feeling that it has everything to do with her and the murder of her partner. Against the rules of the police department, she picks up the case of Phil Thatcher’s death, which soon blows wide open when a tip from a confidential informant and a few of her own recovered memories shed new light on what happened the night Brie’s life changed forever.
This book is so well written. Full of beautifully detailed descriptions of the lake and the coast as well as interesting facts about the native Ojibwe tribe located there. I felt as if I could literally use the book as a road map that would take me straight to the cabin where Brie and her mother stayed, or the reservation where Edna takes refuge after their trip to the lake.
Wonderfully written characters throughout the book made me feel deeply connected to the storyline. Brie herself is an honest, hardworking detective that has every intention of finding justice for the death of Phil Thatcher, a policeman who literally gave his life to the job he loved. There are also examples of beautiful friendships that grow between different cultures, and even though this is a work of fiction, LeClair’s characters and their ability to put all differences aside for the greater good gave me a hopeful feeling in what sometimes feels like a time of such division in the real world today.
When I first received it, I was worried about starting a series with the sixth book. But this novel can definitely stand alone. If you haven’t read the other books in this series, don’t let that stop you from picking up “Death in the Blood Moon” by Jenifer LeClair. I was so impressed with the characters, the locations, the storyline - every aspect of this book was completely enjoyable. A very interesting read that kept me wanting to know the ending, but also made me sad that the story was over. I look forward to reading the other books in this series, as well as future books by this very talented author.

Great book by a Minnesota author. Murder mystery with lots of local references. Recurring characters from author's previous novels on this series were great. The new characters were dynamic too. Loved the twists and turns.

Another good mystery solved! This one moved a little slower for me than the first five of the series but like the others it was an enjoyable read and kept me entertained until the very end. Looking forward to reading #7.

I love the way she describes being at sea, along Lake Superior, and the characters, and all of it. Wish there was more than one more. Hope she’s writing more!
