Some people can’t let go of a grudge. Homicide Detective Sean Trann is learning this the hard way. He made the mistake of interrupting the killing spree of Boston’s most notorious serial killer, Spider. Intent on finishing what he started and infuriated at Sean’s previous involvement, Spider has decided to use those closest to Sean as pieces in his twisted game.
Sean is the only one who can stop this executioner, but can he stay professional when his loved ones are on the line?
An original, super-creepy killer, likeable leads and twist at the end I totally didn’t see coming made this book a real treat of a thriller. The end wraps it all up but leaves the door open for a sequel, I can’t wait for the next one!
I am a detective fiction junkie. I especially like series - Robert Parker, Sue Anne Grafton, Preston and Childs, Lee Child and many others. I also enjoy science fiction, and loved Christa Yelich-Koth's three novels, "Illusion, Identity and Coiled Vengance". She is a great story teller with strong characters and twisting plots. Sometimes, an author may not be able to change genre's easily. "Spider's Truth" is not one of those times. With protagonist homicide detective Sean Trann of the present day Boston Police department, Ms. Yelich-Koth weaves a story of a "straight" investigation that turns into an incredible investigation of a world wide conspiracy. As with her sci-fi books, the characters are fully developed, the plot turns unforeseen. It all takes place a break-neck pace No matter what your favorite fiction reads are, I think you will find "Spider's Truth" well worth the read.
There is nothing more than Spider's Truth by Christa Yelich-Koth, for a psychological detective thriller. The title caught me first as I couldn't even guess what it would be about...finding out the real meaning of the title was simply EXCITING... The book takes us on a spectacular journey with Detective Sean and his comrades. The reader is on a roller coaster ride-through ups and downs. Sometimes I felt I am Sean and at times I felt I am the next victim...literally...This Spider was instantly on my nerves from the very beginning and I couldn't put it down until the last page. Ironically what I loved the most is The Spider-the villain/s.
I would highly recommend this to all thriller lovers..all those who would like to read a book throughout sitting on the edge of your seat. Thanks to VoraciousReadersOnly and the author for this copy.a
This was an incredibly engrossing gift from Voracious Readers Only. I could not put this book down – completely fast paced, absorbing and disarming. Your expectations will be fulfilled, only to be completely reversed and upended before you finish the next chapter. You will find your imagination willingly burrowing through more mind tunnels than a mole on speed. And the bonus is, this is a fully contained plotline that can easily spin off into concentric realms of further concentric realms [to all of which I would be more than delighted to dedicate my allotted night reading]. Yelich-Koth is a horrifically fun read – is it proper to admit that about a serial killer writer? – probably not…but wickedly true all the same. This is an indecently alluring heinousness. Raise that eyebrow and begin.
Received a complimentary copy of this novel through Voracious Readers in exchange for an honest review. What a superb thriller of a tale with lots of twists and turns as unlucky in love Sean tries to outwit the serial killer “spider”, who seems to know his every move. This rollercoaster of a story starts like all good thrillers slow, slow dragging you in to the murky mind of the sadistic killer, but then just as you think you have worked it all out BAM the writer goes in different direction until the tale comes to its dramatic conclusion. Brilliant stuff will definitely be reading another by this author.
Thank you to the author for providing a free digital copy through Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review.
I liked the inter-personal relationships between the people investigating the murders. These were necessary to set up the trail of murders in such a way and made the story more interesting and unusual.
The villain of the piece was delightfully insane and I enjoyed watching their motives unfold as the story progressed.
Overall I found the book engaging and entertaining and stayed up late on my last night of reading it to see how it ended. I look forward to the sequel.
I really enjoyed this novel. Sean seemed like and okay dude until his beloved turned up and then he went a bit ...haywire. I was intrigued as to the why they chose him, but it was made apparent eventually. I loved trying to guess the notes. Some twists and turns until the ultimate, near the end, which I just didn't see coming. I did enjoy this novel and will be seeking any follow on as there was room made for another.
I received a free copy of this novel through the author and Voracious Reads for an honest review.
Detective + potential serial killer + love interest = exciting read.
This book was great! Suspenseful in all the right places. Well written and kept my interest the entire time. I did not want to put this book down. From start to finish this book had me hooked. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and adding Christa Yelich-Koth to my list of authors to keep an eye on.
It took just a few chapters to really get into, because the way it started seemed like there was - at the very least a prequel - some kind of backstory. However, once the main plot actually picked up, this was a VERY quick, heart-pounding, nail-biting read. A few plot twists near the end that came out of nowhere. I enjoyed it so much, I bought Books 2 and 3 and preordered Book 4!
An amazing book. Kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through. Well written, all the characters are ‘real’ and the story has a lot of twists. You think you’ve got the killer sussed out and then .......
I received this book free from Voracious Readers Only and am reviewing it voluntarily.
Absolutely loved this book. Well written and full of many fantastic twists and turns. You can’t help but be drawn into the story and form an attachment to the main character. Please note I received a complimentary copy of this book from Christa Yelich-Koth via Voracious Readers Only.
I received a copy of this book through Voracious Readers. To begin with I was a bit unsure but once I got into the story it was really compelling and I found I could not put it down. I am definitely going to read more from this author!
Intense from the start to the surprising ending. Well written with believable characters and strange plots. Would recommend this book for anyone who loves a good thriller.
I received a complimentary online copy of thus book from the author because of my association with Voracious Readers Only . Thank you to both! Definite 5/5 stars. Page turner and loved the characters and story line . A must read book for people who like mystery thrillers!
Firstly, thank you to the author for providing me with a free copy of the book via Voracious Readers Only in exchange for a fair review.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were likable, the plot twist was executed well and the writing style was really engaging, kept me interested from start to finish.
I'm friends with Christa on Facebook and I saw her post about one of her book releases. She reached out to me and asked if I would read it (it was free on Amazon for the eBook). This book quickly ramped up into becoming an addicting book, however this book has it's flaws and that's why I can't give it above a three stars on goodreads.
Detective Sean Trann is a Boston detective who's incredibly skilled and suave. He's still realing over the fact his ex-fiance left him at the altar on their wedding day. Meanwhile, he's on a goose chase with a serial killer called "Spider" who leaves clues and kills people like the Saw movies with these weird contraptions. He almosted stopped "Spider" once, can he do it again?
As I mentioned, this book was a quick read for me. I found myself reading on my work lunch breaks or on the bus because I couldn't put it down. The last 50 pages of the final showdown between . I will say this book has quite a few strong female leads which is absolutely a strength to this book. I will say I was shocked to learn .
Now, the negatives. The first half of this book is ridden with grammatical mistakes. It was super distracting to read and I contemplated putting the book down and being done with it. I'm glad I didn't, but this was bad. The first half of this book needs to be reedited.
Another negative I have is the interaction between some of the characters feels unnatural and awkward to read about. Especially with Charlotte. I get that she's this "ice queen", but she still doesn't talk naturally. Once I warmed up to how Christa was writing her characters, I got over this. In the beginning, it felt really weird to read.
One disappointment I had is how the Christa didn't explain
The last negative I have is some of the deaths are incredibly violent. This book gives me some major Saw movie vibes and if gore is not your thing, I would stay away from this book. I feel Christa sometimes went "over the top" on the deaths, and I believe it could have been toned down. Also some of the "traps" or the way the serial killer "Spider" killed people seems way too unrealistic which plays into my previous point of being too gory.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read. I would for sure continue on in the series, but this book had too many negatives for me to give it above 3 stars. If you like a thrilling detective novel with a supernatural twist and don't mind a few grammatical errors, this would be a great book to add to your reading list.
When a serial killer begins to kill again, at an even quicker pace than before, Detective Sean Trann feels as if there is a personal vendetta against him. The killer, Spider, begins to use the people closest to Sean as part of his game. Will Sean be able to figure out who Spider is and stop them in time to stop anymore killings and save those he loves? Spider’s Truth, written by Christa Yelich-Koth, is a psychological detective thriller that will keep you reading until the end.
I enjoyed this book and thought it was well written. There was always something happening so it kept me interested from beginning to end! Christa Yelich-Koth created strong characters, and I especially enjoyed the strong female characters included in this book. Spider’s Truth kept the action coming from beginning to end and included all the twists and turns expected from a thriller.
If you like detective thrillers, go ahead and give this book a try!
*Recieved this as part of the Voracious Readers Only*
Let me start by saying I enjoy a good murder... mystery (I guess this could be considered that). I wasn't a fan of this. But, before I get into the negative stuff let me highlight some of the things the author did very well. Her writing style connects with the reader, really throwing them in the story. That's probably the reason I even started it. The characters are realilistic and plots twist incredible. It's well written and I probably would have rated it 5 stars if it was a different genre. (All me NOT the author).
Now the negative. (Sorry I really don't want to offend anyone). Yes, I've thought of some odd, painful ways to kill people, but not to the level this book goes to. Not gonna lie, I didn't finish it. I got over halfway before I was done. This book made me physically sick, and I have a pretty strong stomach. There is a lot of language and other explict content. I would never recomend this book. Plus, there's a cult thing that's just down right disturbing. I'm sorry Miss Yelich-Koth, this book isn't for me.
While reading the first half of this book, I kept thinking that the fictional version of the Boston Police Department presented here was disorganized and ineffective. Think Keystone Cops. I couldn't see what makes Detective Trann special; his personal life is a mess and he has an incredibly short fuse. Sergeant Millan, a kind of father figure to him, is always telling Trann to go home and take a rest, even in the middle of a serial killer investigation. The only characters that have their act together are the medical examiner, Charlotte Salla, and Mags the receptionist. Around the halfway point, the plot takes a weird turn. My suspension of disbelief was already creaking and totally bottomed out when the motive for the murders was revealed, along with a whole lot of other stuff. All that said, I admit I read to the end in order to find out what happened. The climactic scenes were pretty unbelievable, but wrapped up the story fairly well.
I absolutely loved this book. I'm a huge fan of crime stories with detectives who spend an unhealthy amount of their time drinking coffee, especially the one that involves serial killers. The author did a great job in keeping suspense in the story fresh and alive till the last page! As I finished each chapter, I was intrigued to read more, curious of what might happen next. The suspense element in this story was what really attracted me. It's a really great read!
Jeez! Straight from the get-go I was glued to the Kindle screen. Good thing it wasn’t a paperback copy, because it would’ve been flung across the room several times over the ten hours it took to read this fantastic book. A couple of cushions did the fly instead. Oh ma gerd! When an author can get a reader so riled up over the missteps and indecision made by a character, you know then that the author has kicked a million goals in the character development department, as Christa Yelich-Koth has done with this total gem. I bought the next one, Spider’s Ring, without hesitation. This author’s an “awe-thor”! When A turns up at his door, and with knowing the history of them, I was looking at the screen thinking, ‘Don’t do it, buddy. Don’t let her in’. He let her in. I sensed his strength. I saw that strength crumble. Then they’re both on that thing he keeps stubbing his toe on, and I’m like… NOOOOO! She bad, my brother! She bad! To me, he appears several times throughout the book to be in desperate need of joining a local Men’s Shed Group to knock some damn sense into him. I checked the back of my Kindle device to see if there was a secret doorway into it so that I could get in and give ole Sean a serious ‘wakeup slap’… No such luck. We’ll come to the amazing Dr. Salla soon enough… Allow me a moment to recompose myself here. Mmmmmm, Dr. Salla! These characters are not just neutral-shade statues from which lines of dialogue emanate; these groovers come across as real people. So real you can despise them for their weaknesses and love them for their unwavering path of logical resolve. When it comes to the “crimes”, well, let’s just say that you’d keep your tool shed securely locked if this author came around for a Sunday barbeque with ill intent. Some deliciously gruesome stuff, indeed. Then, when they were all downstairs, Dr. Salla was holding a piece of cutlery, and Double A and Sean were at a standoff, I was like, “Mate! Just shoot her in the thighs! Cap that cow in the legs then you don’t have to worry about trusting her!” But no. No shots fired there; hugs instead. “Here, Sean, give this bloke a call. He runs the Men’s Shed.” I’m still in two minds as to whether I’d share a beer with Sean, clink bottles and say, “Ya done well there, kid.” Or whether I’d drink both beers and club him over the head with the empties. I’m sure Millan is of a similar opinion. This story is so well thought out, it’s just amazing, especially when we come to “The Book”. I seriously punched the air in triumph when the book’s origins were pointed out. The pace, even when it goes down through the gears, is still revving high on the tachometer, and Christa Yelich-Koth certainly knows how to get a reader squirming on the couch through her craft.
Highly recommended, and even though I’m going to need a little time in the literary decompression chamber, I can’t wait to get into Spider’s Ring and throw cushions of infuriation across my home office.

For me this is a great thriller. Story line and plot is different to others I have read before. Well written with lots of twists and turns that keep the suspense through out the novel. Well written characters that are fleshed out well. Very much a rollercoaster of a ride reading this one. A sadistic killers mind is a very dark thing to be in. Starts slow but don't give up keep reading; I was hooked and had to read in one sitting and wow what a conclusion it had! Recommend reading.
An excellent first in series. Hope the follow-up books are as good.
Det. Trann has an interesting ability to assess facts and solve cases. The exception were the killings by a serial killer dubbed Spider.
For months Spider killed one person on the first of every month. Spider would send a note 24 hours prior to the death with two cryptic clues. Detectives were always too late to save the victim until the last one. The victim did succumb to injuries, but was alive when found.
Then nothing was heard from Spider for one year, but when the killings began again, the rules of engagement were changed and things got personal for Det. Trann.
As the story unfolds, the reader will wonder if the detective will solve the murders or unravel.
