A set of seemingly unconnected disappearances emerge to be woven into a single fabric as the answer to one leads to another… In this riveting narrative, bestselling author Shreyas Bhave, takes the reader on a thrilling adventure to solve the greatest mystery the Indian nation has known.
About the Author : Shreyas Bhave, is an Electrical Engineer from VNIT Nagpur, and is one of India’s youngest experts on Railway Electrification PSI work. He also runs an entrepreneurial community at www.ourfirstmillion.org.
Shreyas’ first three books, the Asoka Trilogy, was published to wide acclaim and acquired for screen adaptation. Prisoner Of Yakutsk is written as a mystery thriller with the disappearance of Subhash Chandra Bose at its core.
Apart from writing, Shreyas enjoys songwriting, composing music, sketching and watercolours. He plays the guitar and is fond of the blues and southern rock music. He also loves to hike up to the hill forts of Maharashtra.
Death of Subhash Chandra Bose was, is and will be one of the most controversial topics of India. A global leader who was declared dead one fine day. And the investigation of the same was kept secret for 50-60 years. Even the details provided were leading to more conspiracy, in such cases a rightist (not exactly but less believer of Congress propaganda) I wanted to read a book on this topic. One fine day I saw a post of Shreyas Bhave about "Prisoner of Yakutsk: The Subhash Chandra Bose Mystery Final Chapter", a book dedicated around Subhash Chandra's death. The book series "Asoka Trilogy" by Shreyas is one of the favorite series of mine, so I simply grabbed the opportunity.
I won't reveal more details of Netaji's death or surrounding facts given in the book. But our story started with 3 generations. The first generation was Mr. & Mrs. Singh, who directly served under INA (India Nationa Army - conceptualized by Netaji to fight against Britishers). They were later on given the task to do the detailed investigation by Nehru, Gandhi, and Sardar. The third generation was Jay (maternal grandson of Singh couple). He came to know about her missing mother. The second generation, the daughter of Singh couple, Azadi had left Jay with her lover and then didn't come back. In short, three generations went after one mystery, would Jay succeed in finding truth or not. Read the book to know more.
The book is an amalgamation of 3-4 writing styles. The documentary, Historical fiction, Drama and Mystery. The major portion is written as a mystery. Some points/observation 1) Fast-paced story 2) Jumbled plots in different generations at different timelines 3) Good use of broken facts and controversies 4) Nice conceptualization 5) Awesome cover (it's good to see my upvoted cover in print)
Advice for next reprint - Try to work on better word spacing. Current text settings were giving stress on the eyes.
Prisoner of Yakutsk. ~ Thank you for the review copy @authorshreyas. ~ Subhash Chandra Bose's disappearance is one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in the World. Few say that he died in a plane crash near Taiwan but the pictures aren't enough to prove the same. Few are of the opinion that he never died and continued living in Russia but that wasn't proved either. The mysterious aura that revolves around his whereabouts has attracted many researchers and government officials over the years who tried to uncover the truth about his existence. Prisoner of Yakutsk is a fictional book where the author takes us on a journey of unearthing the facts about Bose. ~ The story is split into two timelines, one post independence between 1947-1949 and the other years later, around 2012-2015. Jay Rasbihari, a technocrat sets out on a journey to find his biological mother which leads to the discovery of the secret task carried out by his grandparents back in the '40s. Major and Dr Singh were part of the INA force led by Bose and were later entrusted the task of finding facts of his disappearance. They build a five member team to carry out the mission and are also successful in bringing out the answers. But the records of their mission are top secret and Jay takes it upon himself to know what truly happened to his grandparents and parents. ~ There are quite a bit of characters in the book including couple of Russians who tail Jay as he follows the trail to his grandparent's secret. The story is fast paced and flows with ease. The writing flair is good though at few instances, it could have been much better. There were, however, couple of characters that I didn't quite like. The relationship of Jay and Tanya seemed and looked pretty shallow and a more in-depth detail could have been mentioned about the Singhs. The ending was not quite what I expected considering how the Russians behaved once they had Jay. It could have been executed better. However, the in-depth research carried out by the author is applaudable. ~ Rating - 3.75/5.
Third book within 20 days which seemed like it is written to be adapted in a hardcore commercial masala Bollywood film. 'Prisoner of Yakutsk' has each and every element to become a Bollywood film but unfortunately it does not have elemets which can make it a good book. The book is based in the search of Subhash Chandra Bose death mystery, where a young boy tries to find the whereabouts of his mother and eventually finds himself on a mission to uncover the great Netaji death mystery.
The premise was promising and during the initial chapters pace and narration was also fine. The story is told in a parallel narrative one in which captures Jay and his struggle in current times and other in which Jay's grandparents were on the trail to track Netaji in between 1947-49. The book fails miserably in character building all the characters are clichéd, superficial and stereotypical. I don't understand why the male protagonist has to be prodigy everytime and the female protagonist has to be sexy and seductive. The characters in the parallel narrative are no good. They are a team which can be seen in any spy thriller Hollywood film.
I also don't get logic behind "choosing a man who has wife" for the mission because it would be easier to cover the identity. Didn't Indian Government has female spies back then to send on mission?
Third bad reading experience within a month. 1 Star.
If you want to read a book which is mystery fiction but with touch of facts too than this is the perfect book for you. If like me you need to know about the death of Netaji subhash chandra bose than what are you waiting for. This book takes you to the journey back and present. Two veteran are last seen in India before leaving for a mission of disappearance of Netaji. You have this era of independence and 2000's time line too. But the story connects to each other and you will see how these all are related. How does Jay find out about his mother Azaadi who was in search of her parents and The thrilling journey with mystery exploring Netaji's death. The narration, character development, mix of present and past time is brilliantly carved. 3.5 or 3.75 🌟🌟
I always enjoy reading Historical genre in fiction and Non-fiction both.
This book ‘Prisoner of Yakutsk’by Shreya Bhave’ is an amazing amalgamation of both facts and fiction. Woven into three genres: Mystery, History and Drama.
The story is divided into two timelines, running parallel to each other. One is of past, somewhere around Independence and the other is of now.
This book revolve around the most contreversial topic of India till now. The mysterious death of Subhash Chandra Bose. And the mysterious disappearances of Mr. and Mrs. Singh, the protagonist Jay’s mother Azadi.
What exactly happened to Subhash Chandra Bose will always remain a mystery. But the author in this book has tried to solve the mystery through his assumptions backed by the facts that he has.
It’s a race against time for Jay to solve the mystery of these disappearances... The main question is: Will he be able find his mother?
The most remarkable thing about Shreya Bhave is his art of storytelling. Which in this case could have gone awry. But his thorough research of the matter and putting it together in the story smoothly. Moreover his flawless narration shows that he is an excellent weaver of stories.
The narrative will grips it readers from the very first page of the book ‘ Prisoner of Yakutsk. Unravelling mysteries as the story progresses further. The narration truly captures the emotions of the characters.
The Characters in this book are well thought of and penned. Though they seemed a bit strong for my taste. Maybe it’s only me who thinks that, but never mind.
I didn’t find anything to dislike per se... The only that bugged the hell out me was it’s printing style. Word spacing and it’s text size were small and uncomfortable. I had to strain a lot to read the book. Otherwise ‘Prisoner of Yakutsk’ could have been a 5 star read.
Do I recommend this book?
Of course! The book ‘Prisoner of Yakutsk’ is a must read for every historical genre fan, regardless it is a fiction or Non-fiction.
Prisoner of Yakutsk is a blend of fiction and facts of a conspiracy theory about the mysterious death of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. This book has the feel of a historical fiction and a thriller. The story is divided in two parts. One part of the story is taking place in the modern day with a successful businessman named Jay Rasbhihari trying to find out about his grandparents with help of the expert hacker, Tanya Williams. Another part of the story is taking place in 1947, where Jay's grandparents, Anish and Rupali Singh are sent on a covert mission by the Indian Government to find out what happened to Netaji. The story is based on a unique concept and is written effortlessly. The nervous anticipation of finding out what happened to Netaji makes this book a page turner. The story is crisp for the most part. There were a few things here and there in the story that I didn't particularly like. Some scenarios were not exactly to my taste. Overall, if you love conspiracy theories and like historical fiction with feel of a thriller, then Prisoner of Yakutsk is a book that you can go for.
There have been so many speculations about how Subhash Chandra Bose die. Some say in a plane crash and some say he was captured by the Russians. In this book the author has tried to solve the mystery with facts and assumptions. The book has two stories from different eras running in parallel, one is set in the current world (in the year 2015) and the other is set around the time of Indian independence (1947). The author has beautifully woven the stories together.
Prisoner of Yakutsk : Subhas Chandra Bose mystery Final chapter by Shreyas Bhave I love conspiracy theories. The death of Subhas Chandra Bose has always been shrouded in mystery and controversy. How did his plane crash? Did it really crash? If Netaji is alive where is he? How did he escape? Did he really have 100 bars of gold with him? Read the book to find out the answers to these questions.
The plot is divided in to the past and the present. In the past it follows the team put together by Mr and Mrs Singh to find Netaji. The present is dominated by Jay and Tanya and the discoveries they make while following Mr and Mrs Singh's trail. The author has blended fact and fiction beautifully together. The story is fast paced and engaging. The characters are well developed. The writing is good and the language clear. Overall a good book to read for people interested in the past/ historical fiction/ Netaji.
There are few incidents which has remained a mystery till date. It is because of this, people are still intrigued by those events. The death of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose is one such event that has always been a point of contention/discussion even today. There are lot of mystery around the disappearance of the National Hero and even though lot of inquiry commission had been set up, none had revealed the truth till date.
Even the "RTI" Act wasn't helpful since those who applied for information under this received a reply saying "Information was Classified. The revelation of information would jeopardize the relationship with other Nation"
Shreyas had taken this intriguing subject and presented the novel in his own style. He has used few real characters and few imaginary characters in his novel to make the story look like the real one. The sequence of events would make you to keep hooked to the story from the beginning till the end.
The story is set in two different periods - 20th and 21st Century. While a team has been deployed by the then PM and Dy PM to go in search of Netaji, they stumble upon truth which has been kept concealed by the Govt and various authorities. On the other had, a multi millionaire(Jay) sets on a journey to find information about his missing mother . He is joined by an hacker(Tanya Williams) who had connections with Julian Assange. They travel to various places including Hong Kong where they meet Sasha Maikijan whose son is a Gangster. They were followed by couple of Russians(Sergei and Charkov).
What was Jay trying to find out?
Why would Russians follow Jay?
Who is Tanya and why did she agree to help Jay?
Who is Sasha?
Was the disappearance of Netaji been decoded in the end?
Read this story which would keep you captivated till the end. A different perception and approach towards the disappearance of Netaji which makes this novel, a unique one.
Prisoner of Yakutsk : The Subhash Chandra Bose Mystery Final Chapter has my heart. The reason is when i was searching for a well written historical fiction and could hardly grab bland and factual so-called-history based books, i found this. This book is the best example of how history is incorporated into books at the same time making it easy and enjoying for the reader.
This book is the epitome of historical fiction.
Now, the conspiracy of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose has been so controversial in India, that historians rarely try to acknowledge it. Whether it was a plane crash or some other mystery, it is still a hot topic. So, i appreciate the author for picking up this topic.
Starting with the cover, it has been very well thought and curated. It really intrigues the reader.
The book has been very well planned and written.
There is a very subtle balance between facts and fiction which we rarely find in books based on history. I mean once you start the book, you won't be bored rather you would end up loving it!
The best part of the book is the inclusion of newspaper cuttings and stuff. It really gives an insight into what we are reading and enhances curiosity.
Apart from that, what all a fictional work needs is there. The author has charmed the words in a spellbinding manner, yet keeping in focus the seriousness of the topic.
Overall, after wadding my way through history based books, i can finally settle with this book! So happy to have read it!
As, I read the title, I knew this book is going to be an interesting one. The book is based upon Netaji's death and this topic is one of the most controversial story of India. Character development is good. The book is totally worth the time. If you start reading this book, you won’t regret it. The plot of the book is simple yet interesting with lots of twists and turns. The book has two parallel stories running in it. Though the book has fiction, yet it contain lots of facts. The pace of the book made it better to read Language is easy. The narration is gripping. The writing style of the author is very good. Once you start reading this book, you won’t be able to put it down. I will recommend this book to everyone esp. history lovers or anyone who is interested in this topic. Recommended : Yes
The most attention-seeking and controversial is the life of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, or should I say his death has caught the most attention. He was the master of disguise, hiding, and camouflage. It's always good to read about him, you discover something new every time.
Coming to the book, it is based upon Netaji's death. It inculcates 3 generations and tries to spill the beans over the mystery of Netaji's death. Though the work is mixed with fiction, there are numerous facts included in the book. The book has two parallel stories with the present time and second is set in the times relating to the death of Netaji.
I really liked the pace and narration of the book. The plot is very simple but grabs the attention with its writing style and the twists it has. The book can be read by people who like Indian history, controversies and are peculiarly looking for drama, like a lot of drama.
"One individual may die for an idea, but that idea will, after his death, incarnate itself in a thousand lives." - Subhash Chandra Bose

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose still remains one of the most eminent freedom fighters of all time. His controversial disappearance is still in talks. Though officially it is still believed or said that he died in a plane crush near Taihoku Airport but many people doesn't believe in this theory till today. It is still one of the biggest mystery and controversy that is still unanswered.
This book, Prisoner of Yakutsk is a historical fiction book that is hands down the besy contemporary or modern day historical fiction I've read. The way the author blended facts and history with his imagination is absolutely praiseworthy. The paper cuttings throughout the book picks interest even more.
The storyline is flawlessly built up. All the characters are strong and made with precision. The concept of the book or even the thought after reading the blurb picked so much interest in me. Its just rare to come across such a book. The writing and language is at it's best. The mystery-quotient throughout the book is maintained aided by the easy language.
Rating and Recommendations:
5/5. Its one of the best historical-fiction you will get out there. Just go for it and indulge into the thrilling ride.
Subhas Chandra Bose (23 January 1897 – 18 August 1945) was and Indian nationalist whose defiant patriotism made him a hero in India, but whose attempt during World War 2 to rid India of British with the help of Nazi.
He started the newspaper Swaraj and took charge of publicity for the Bengal Provincial Congress Committee. His mentor was Chittranjan Das who was a spokesman for aggressive nationalism in Bengal. In the year 1923, Bose was elected the President of All India Youth Congress and also the Secretary of Bengal State Congress. He was also the editor of the newspaper "Forward", founded by Chittaranjan Das.

Some mysteries are better left in suspense, But how die with curiosity? Ratings: 🌟🌟🌟🌟.75/5 Subhashchandra bose was one of the most popular freedom fighter. The book deals with mysterious death of the freedom fighter. The writer beautifully described the interpretations and truth of the death of Bose. The narration of the story is very convincing. Though the story is a fiction but it do include facts. I would love to recommend this book to you all. I have earlier watched web serie discussing about this plot soo upto some extinct i knew the story. The controversial death of this leader is a mystery for us upto this date. But let us unfold many other secrets. This book won't let you get bored. A good read it is.
The cover has an image of a prisoner who seems a lot like Subhash Chandra Bose, making it intriguing.
The title is suitable as the plot of the story is based on some historical facts and possibilities which may be considered as fiction.
The Blurb is thought provoking as it somehow explains very peculiar situations or facts which are hystorical in nature.
This book is basically a fiction, which has taken some historical facts and the author has tried to implicate those facts with his wild imaginations, which in fact turns out to be gripping and flawless.
The story gives an insight about what could be the reasons for such peculiar events which have happened not only in India but outside India as well.
The story is a real thriller. Once you start, you won't be able to put it down till you complete it.
The language used is really good. The narration was engaging. The Characters were so realistic and crafted really well. I felt like I somehow got involved with the plot, thinking about what will happen next in the story.
It's a recommended read for those who like to read historical thrillers, looking to read something based on historical facts.
The cover of the book is quite intriguing and so is the title as it doesn't give out much what the whole book is about.
It definitely is a mystery for all of us as to what happened to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
The book is a mix between the two era's if you may. One directly after we got Independence and the other set in present day. This might be a bit confusing for some otherwise it was written without any glitch.
The storyline and character development went perfectly hand in hand.
And the question of how subash Chandra bose died had always been a mystery. The book is set up in different places and as it progresses we tend to develop a link between every phase. Beautifully depicted and wonderful way of writing. A few genres mixed, but mainly a mystery. The author has a wonderful way of delivering the topic by making sure that the reader doesn't lose interest at any point of time. Wonderful read.

Characters are real and some imaginary to narrate story and understandable from reader point of view.
Along with subject of Nationalism, Netaji shubhas chamdra bose is still a part of conversation for his death in an alleged plane crash on 18 August 1945, in Taiwan. It still a mystery for over 70 years after the event. In those seven decades numerous books , TV shows , interviews have talked about this subject! There are countless conspiracy theories about his death and this book using genre known as Fiction presented as fact. This is what makes the book more interesting and makes is reader to sit on edge till the last page! Story line is well presented and though it is fictional it makes us doubt the reality!! Dan Brown and Ashwin Sanghi (Famously known for The Krishna Key ) use this genre to make us go nuts!! And this is kind of intimate film for us history geeks! What more can a nerd ask for?!😂
Historical fiction is one genre I never get tired of reading. This book by @authorshreyas is an amazing work on the life of the Late Subhash Chandra Bose. It is perfectly written and is a great blend of facts and fiction. The story is broken into two folds keeping in mind about the facts in the past and a little fiction in the present, which again adds a little thrill to the plot. I am amazed at how well all the characters compliment the story. The reading is easy and fast pacing. If you still think Subhash Chandra Bose died because of an accident, read this book. And let me know how did you like it.
I have always been curious about the death of Neetaji. And then there are quite a number of conspiracy theories about the death and speculation are never ending. The book has a man on its cover and the title is so appropriate. The book is a final chapter of the death mystery of Neetaji. The book is purely written on fictional facts. The author did a great job in keeping all the facts clear. The language of the book is simple. It was difficult for me to put down the book. I loved the narration and plot of the book. I think, the facts are well executed. I will definitely recommend the book.
Name of the book -Prisoner of Yakutsk : The Subhash Chandra Bose Mystery Final Chapter by Shreyas Bhave Stars given - 5 on 5 stars My take on the book - For someone who used to not like history much I did like this one a lot. It is just that we do not like having stories that don't have a proper ending. And this is one tale in history that we do feel like we lack closure in. This facts meets fiction take on such a historical personality made my day. The narration is amazingly done. It gives you a very clear idea and there's no excess of even a single word. So if you are looking for a book that takes you on an adventure, then this is the book for you. It thrills and sends chills down your spine. I looooooooooooved it. I will recommend it to everyone who likes to enjoy a story that gives you something to hold on to even when it is done.
I remember reading speculations about Subhash Chandra Bose and if he is dead or alive when I read an article about him living as Gumnami Baba sometime in early 2018. This book doesn’t have a fixed genre. As the author goes on to tell his theories in 3-4 parts, he explores different genres as well; historical fiction, drama, mystery and thriller. The writing style was amazing; it had me on my toes the entire time. The story is also very fast paced and doesn’t bore you at all. And the fact that the author’s conspiracy and controversy theories actually made sense was a cherry on top because I love conspiracy theories and such. The characters were very well developed and in detail, and they fit very well in the story and with the theories. I am a big fan of the cover of the book as well. This book, overall is a very nicely thought – out and researched book.
Ever since I picked this book I couldn't resist to keep it down till I finish it. The book is an amazing journey which builts different stories yet connecting them all in one string. The mysterious death of Netaji Subhash Chandra was one of the talked topic in Indian society till now and this book provides light on these hidden mystery behind. The cover of the book is simple yet captivating. The language and research done by the is commendable. This book does not disappoint you at any moment.
Great concept! Thrilling journey. Whenever there's a story very interesting I always expect to be presented that way to use the full potential of the story. This is a very gripping story which I wanted to read. Subhash Chandra Bose's passing is one of the most provocative topics of India. It is very fortunate to find a book which you find worthy to read and in my case, it is very less. I feel that very fewer books are also providing something and have a purpose to exist besides entertainment. The character development is very nice. The narration style and storytelling don't let me put the book down. If you are interested in then I guess this book won't disappoint you !
The fact with fiction. Truth with make-believe memories. The combinations used in this book make for some interesting reading. When he was alive, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was an enigma. His death in an alleged plane crash on August 18, 1945, in Taiwan remains a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Shreyas Bhave has a winner on his hands but could have done with the author’s note being moved to the endnotes section of the book. The Prisoner of Yakutsk is an excellent book which could have been great. Nevertheless, this is page turning stuff.
