DNF at 27%

There is nothing wrong with the book but I am not interested enough to find out how it ends. The characters are overly cheerful for Highland romance of Robert the Bruce time period, and as of 27% mark the book reads repetitive to me. So I am returning it safely to KU.

This is my first book by Anne Morrison and it will not be the last. I can not wait to read Aidan’s book.
The book has a great storyline and one that I don’t think I’ve read before. The story revolves mostly around Reade MacTaggert and Elizabeth Kendall. Elizabeth thinks that Reade is a hired shield and hires him the escort her to her cousins home. Both have many secrets and lie to each other but there is a chemistry between them that they can’t deny. Their secrets shadow their trip and Reade must make a decision that may break Elizabeth’s heart and trust in him, but her safety is what’s most important. Reade is a kind and honorable man and Elizabeth is as strong as any highland lass even if she’s English.
There are very few secondary characters, we did get a glimpse of Reade’s niece Maisey and I wish there was more of her in the story. The story did lag some in the middle but it did not take from the story.

Wow!

This book reeled me in and held me captive. Elizabeth and Reade's story is full of adventure and just the right amount of steamy romance. Some parts had me laughing so hard I cried! Truly an amazing read.

Lady Elizabeth found herself stuck in a situation where her ruthless Uncle wanted to use her as a political pawn and further his instead of thinking of his niece. With her future looking glum and the maids whispering how she was stuck, she escapes the grips of her Uncle and runs away from the horrible future he has planned. While running Lady Elizabeth finds herself in the midst of a strapping young man named Reade who agrees to take her to his mother's cousins estate in Northern Scotland. With danger nipping at their heels along every turn, sadly her Uncle catches up to them at Reade's brothers Keepe. With an escape plan that goes haywire, Lady Elizabeth and Reade need to find another way out and get to Reade's family estate in Scotland before her Uncle can set her future in stone and ruin her future forever. Will Lady Elizabeth find her happily ever after, or is it already to late? Is Reade the man she has been looking for or is this just a tail of suspense? Read it!
I received this arc and found it intriguing. I usually don't read historical romances but had this author recommended to me by a previous author who I used to review for so I figured I'd give it a go. I have to say it didn't let me down. It's not quite my cup of tea but hardly something to shake a stick at. Great writing and great view point. I had a hard start but got into it once I finally stuck to it.

Anne Morrison’s main characters in this tale, Claimed By The Highlander are strong and endearing. Reade Mac Taggart and Elizabeth Kendall are both unlikely candidates as far as lasting relationship material goes, yet these two characters whom hide their identities so deeply that each uses an alias at their meeting, seemingly find a strong connection to each other.

Depending on the readers’ outlook on the flow of their reading, Morrison’s work can either be considered enriched by a steadily build core relationship and tale, or not fast-paced enough. If you’re looking for fast action-packed thrills and chills, this is unlikely to be to your taste. Those readers who find joy in both will be perfectly pleased with the well-written story-line and solid characters.

The plot flows well and set against the war torn Highlands, the steady construction of the relationship and tale is in direct contrast to the tensions looming at the edges of the character’s and the readers’ minds.

For those with a keen eye, there are some editing and format glitches that may be mildly annoying. However, the cohesiveness of the story-line and its characters will ease any irritation and leave it all but forgotten. All in all, a good rainy-day friend with believable characters and scenario.

Reade Fitzpatrick (MacTaggart), is the brother of the laird. He has been in the south having a look around to see what the climate is like. He meets Elizabeth Jacobson (Kendall), both her parents and little brother had died of the Pox. Her uncle came and carryed her to the North. She seemed happy until she heard two women. He wants to marry her and get control of some Montgomery properties.
Right now the English and Scottish have a truce.
I thought this was a great and wonderful story. They met up and she hired him because she thought he was a blank shield and to take her to her cousin. This tale had everything rage, fear, fighting, and a lot of running. It is well writen, with funny elements thru out. It reads smoothly and comfortably. The characters are well developed and likeable, Reade loves laughing and smiling especially with Elizabeth. I highly recommend this book, if you are looking for a satisfying read for the night.

I received this ARC from the author and have given my voluntarily review.

Oh wow, I sooooo enjoyed reading this book!!! Once I started reading it, there was no putting it down. Elizabeth, who has lost her parents and brother to the fever, runs away after she overhears that her own uncle plans to marry her! She soon finds herself in a dangerous situation when two men corner her in an alleyway but she is saved by a stranger. Reade MacTaggart is the brother of his clan's Laird and he's also a spy who is pretending to be a blank shield soldier. Elizabeth hires him to help her get to her cousin's place and he accepts....both of them are hiding who they really are so it gets very interesting! I loved both characters, their chemistry and passion was so intense. Their journey is filled with danger but Reade proves to be a true hero. I really did love everything about this book and I look forward to reading Aiden's story now!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

All the trials and tribulations bring this magnificent read roaring to life brilliantly. The characters were intriguing, complex and realistic. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. I read this book over two days! I really enjoyed the story of Reade and Elizabeth. They are both pretending to be someone they are not to stay alive. He is on a mission for his clan to seek intel and she is running from a family situation that could turn her life into ruins.

Reade is drawn to protect her the second he laid eyes on her. Something about her is different and he wants to be near her at all costs. Elizabeth needs a protector to get her to her destination and he gains more than her trust almost immediately.

This story is fluid, intriguing and captivating from the beginning. If you enjoy Scottish/English historical stories you will enjoy this one. There is tension, secrets (that thankfully don’t last the whole book), sexy time and good characters that are easy to like. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really liked this historical read. After Elizabeth’s family’s death, Elizabeth lives with her uncle who has plans to use her for his gain. When she learns of his plans she decides to run, she meets Reade who agrees to help her but will he get her to safety before her uncles catches them. Fast-paced read with lots of drama and suspense. Great characters and an entertaining story. I liked it.

Claimed by the Highlander started out with excitement and did not stop even to the last page.
I enjoyed Elizabeth and Reade’s story. She is a runaway when she discovers her uncle only brought her to his house, after her entire family dies with pox, to marry her to claim her inheritance.
Reade is on a mission for his brother to discover what is happening with the truce with English and Scotland.
Don’t miss this one.

I recommend this book

I fell in love with Reade myself. He is everything a true man in love should be. Sweet, loving, protective, funny, caring and being handsome doesn’t hurt. Elizabeth was a weak woman in body and spirit. But with Read she learned to become strong and full of spirit, like she told him, show me once and I can do it. I really loved this book and I can’t wait for Aiden’s story. March can’t come soon enough

I really enjoy historical romances set in the Scottish Highlands and this one is stellar! Claimed By The Highlander held my interest from the very beginning as Elizabeth starts down an amazing path that displays her strength and courage through the bad and the good times. Reade's meeting Elizabeth started with a fight and his protection of her through their trials is wonderful to witness. Enjoyed how the author wove background information seamlessly into the story. Wonderful read!

Well, I tried, but this one was just plain boring.

For one thing, the book quickly became so repetitive I began rolling my eyes. OMG, I get it- he's big and tall. She's small, delicate, and mousy. How many times do you need to keep hitting me over the head with that same detail??? The characters are so one-dimensional I just cannot get into this one.

I cannot believe all the high ratings for this book! Was this really the same thing I just read?

This was a really good read. I fell in love with Reade and Elizabeth from the start. It was fun watching them travel and grow close while trying to keep their secrets. There was lots of action and hot steamy scenes between Reade and Elizabeth. This was a great start to the series and I look forward to the next book.

This book was a hard one to put down it was so good. The storyline was wonderfully addicting, the author did a great job at creating a Historical Scottish Romance with characters that you truly felt heartache and love for. The romance was hot after starting off with a slow burn. I highly recommend this book to anyone who love historical romance or just a steamy romance in general.

Outstanding

I enjoyed reading this book. The writing flowed easily and effortless. The characters were well developed and compelling. The lovemaking was off the charts. I also enjoyed the setting of this book. So, if like reading about strong men and brave women who were focused to go beyond their strength and ability to love, then select this book. You will not be disappointed.

It's pretty great! Instant love/ "fated mates" doesn't always work for me, this was pretty great since there was plenty of doubt on both sides. The heroine is facing impending doom but the hero will follow her anywhere and he's a great protector. All characters are well thought out and I just LOVE this hero.

Seems authentic

This sexy romance is woven between and among the Byzantine layers of the feuding Highland clans, and the shifting loyalties of some to their powerful neighbor to the south.

Book 1 in series

A woman fleeing an unwanted marriage is not a new storyline, but in this case there were a few added twists which made the book interesting. Likeable characters and a villain just adds to the star crossed lovers journey to their HEA.

Looking forward to next in series
