Mr. Darcy is a liar because he says that he is an Alpha, I am an Omega… And that I belong to him, body and soul.
Once upon a time, Elizabeth Bennet read a fairy tale that broke down the world into three kinds of people: the normal, everyday Betas; the proud and arrogant Alphas; and the meek, submissive Omegas, whose only goal in life was to please their growling Alpha mates.
Lizzy never forgot that tale—even though it wasn’t real. Or was it?
When terrible pains overcome Elizabeth while tending to her sister Jane, Lizzy knows she must escape Netherfield—and Mr. Darcy. Because he tells her that he is an Alpha, she is an Omega, and that her body will be his.
But she knows she will never submit to any man, especially one as proud, demanding—and tempting—as Mr. Darcy.
But what if Mr. Darcy is telling the truth? What if she is an Omega and—should she run from him—she risks letting any Alpha who finds her, conquer and take her?
Lizzy can’t believe these stories are real. And she knows she can’t stay one moment longer at Netherfield, because if Mr. Darcy takes her in his arms again, she will give him what he wants:
Her, body and soul.
Surely it’s more dangerous to stay inside…than to run away?
Alphas and Omegas and Mr. Darcy, oh my! What is going on? It’s Pride and Prejudice meets the Omegaverse in this very intimate variation. If you haven’t heard of Alphas, Omegas, and all that the Omegaverse entails: prepare yourself. It’s a wild ride, but a fun one. Please note this is NOT for Jane Austen purists! Expect a savage, sensual variation. Can you handle a Lizzy whose body will guide her? Can you deal with the most wrathful, wicked Wickham? And are you ready to meet Mr. Darcy, your Alpha?
By day, Caitlin Marie Carrington juggles motherhood, her editing job, one surly cat and all the adorable drama that life with small children (and one giant husband) entails.
By night, she imagines new adventures for our dear couple, Elizabeth and Darcy.
Mixing magic into a steamy read, made a nerve-wracking combination. Really! The angst was nigh on unbearable but as reading with your eyes closed does not work that well and my nails were newly polished, I had to resort to lip-biting and I am sure I drew blood...
As you probably have surmised, this is not for the faint-hearted. The world of the alpha, beta and omega means domination and surrender in the utmost sense of the word.
Elizabeth was at Netherfield, tending an ill Jane when she had a disturbing yet pleasurable encounter with Mr Darcy in the library. His information and her reactions to him make her flee Netherfield, straight into the arms of a predator and this part was excruciatingly angsty. It really made my heart pound furiously... Suffering through, did make the resolution all the more sweet though and in the end, I absolutely loved it!
Like reading a very condensed synopsis of Twilight in that we have both paranormal creatures (good and bad) plus an explosive chemistry (described in detail) between our (or at least my) favorite couple. Some SPOILERS herein.
The story description outlines the premise very well. Mr. Bennet has kept Elizabeth in ignorance about her true status; although she had a small glimpse when she found a book which fell from a high shelf when she was young. The book was snatched away by her father and then never showed up in his library again.
While at Netherfield nursing Jane, Elizabeth's body begins to have painful cramp-like pain in her abdomen such as she has never experienced before. As she writhes in agony Mr. Darcy approaches and enters the library. He attempts to explain and even give her a small taste to demonstrate what those pains indicate but even as she experiences the truth he is giving her she is having none of it.
When she attempts to leave and go back to Longbourn where she plans to demand an explanation from her father, she is waylaid by a villain who plans to give her a full demonstration as to what it all means.
This is not a tale for the young and innocent nor for those who disdain MA or XXX or R rated material. There is violence. There is sex. Elizabeth is saved but by the skin of her teeth. She does experience assault.
Since I was familiar with omegaverse stories I was really curious about this PP omegaverse variation. And, although I would prefer a more long story - with less Wickham - I found this one delicious.
I hope this author tries her hand again with omegaverse.
Wow, this was soooo bad. I didn't expect much, but it was bad fanfiction that really was nothing to do with P&P. No character development, just badly written porn. It's more like 1.5 stars, mostly just because I got through the thing.
Not for those desiring a sweet, clean read. This veers very far from canon. The entire premise is sexually oriented, bringing Pride and Prejudice into the fantasy "omegaverse" universe where a shrinking proportion of people are born as alpha or omega. The vast majority of the population is a mere beta. An alpha is a strong, dominant leader--someone like Darcy--and an omega is his preferred mate with whom he shares a "mystical bond." They have definite canine qualities where it comes to mating.
The setting stays at Netherfield, Longbourn, and the grounds in between. As the story begins, Elizabeth is staying at Netherfield to nurse her sister Jane, who had fallen ill.
She (Elizabeth) is a naive omega who thinks all this alpha-omega stuff is a fairy tale and doesn't recognize the signs that she's going into heat. Darcy sure recognizes them, though. And Elizabeth's first encounter with Wickham does NOT occur on the streets of Meryton.
The writing is very good and makes this alternate universe feel real. The chemistry between Darcy and Elizabeth absolutely sizzles, which is a necessity for this kind of erotic plotline. Yes, it's graphic. For MA readers only.
My major criticism is about Mr. Bennet. Elizabeth is his favorite daughter, but he keeps her in ignorance about her physiology long after she's passed adolescence. Even worse, he doesn't do anything to discourage her extensive walking around by herself despite an entire militia now in the area. And he doesn't prevent her from going to Netherfield with three men in residence there, at least one of whom he KNOWS is an alpha. To a degree, I can understand Mr. Bennet's reluctance to acknowledge that she's grown into a woman and will eventually leave him. However, this is an issue of her safety, and I just don't buy the idea that he would leave her this vulnerable.
Despite that, it's an interesting short story told well.
Basically a smutty fanfiction of Pride and Prejudice, I knew what I was getting into when I bought this book (yes, I fell for a sale sign - what can I say). I was intrigued by Omegaverse tag and how it would fit into a Pride and Prejudice 'variation. Generally, this has nothing to do with original but the synopsis pretty much tell you that. This has none of the themes of the original and basically uses the names of the characters and your / my love for them to tell a smutty story.
I have nothing against this to be honest - this is the basic premise of fanfiction. Taking a story or piece of media and extrapolating it. These riffs cannot exist without the original as the original sets the tone and context. This book, being so short, is especially so. It starts in the middle of the original novel and references things like the Mereton assembly which will make no sense to readers who read this without the original.
This book basically cost me the same as my cup of Starbucks coffee and like that, it was a shot in the arm and was over very quickly. I enjoyed it but it all honestly I can't give it a much higher rating. There is fanfiction of similar context, quality and fandom available for free. If I had found this on ff.net or Archives of Our Own I would have loved this. Since I had to buy this I give a solid 3 stars but can't give it my stamp of love.
eh...
Very hot action with Darcy. The whole assault thing was very drawn out and just went on and on, and I’m not a fan of non-consensual power play. Maybe some sub-types like that, but it’s not for me. The pacing after the assault was waaaaaay off, and there’s a completely unresolved story line with why Mr Bennet kept secrets, and why was he so weak? In the mythology that the author creates, that wasn’t explained and it just felt like there was a hole in the story.
This explicit sexual story is too graphic for me. I had to skip a bunch of pages. The strong will, goodness, and prided are all in this story. Wickham is as vile and evil as can be - more so in this story. It does only focus on Elizabeth and Darcy. There are mentions and characters are added for clarification and/or to enhance / move the story along. I brought this book knowing it was steamy but it should be marked erotica. Just my 2 cents.
This was a enjoyable book for an afternoon's entertainment. It takes Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth that step farther in their relationship that most of us would like to see it go. I highly recommend this book to anyone that does like a touch of erotica, but not too explicit. It is good.
Look people, I think we can all agree that omegaverse JAFF is a pretty niche sub-genre…I know because I’ve unfortunately ever found three of the P&P variety. That being said I freaking loved it. I only wish it could have been longer. It’s not going to win a Pulitzer, but if these are two genres you enjoy- then it’s a must read.
An erotic variation on a classic novel and damn its well written, made my panties wet. If you're into erotica, a must read. If you want a clean romancey-romance don't bother you will hate it.
The animalistic Darcy you always wanted, but still a gentleman! This was so hot, a perfect melding of two of my favorite romance universes. Darcy was born to be an Alpha for sure.
This is a bad fanfic for “Pride and Prejudice”. This A/B/O twist on the original gets all the characters wrong even Mrs. Bennet who is a very simple character. Didn’t like it.
I hate that I had to pay for this. I hate that Wickem was in this. I hate that Elizabeth resisted. I hate the stories where the women resist their desires.
First of all, I want to complain about the cover, and point out that the picture makes it look like a modern story, when in fact it is not. I didn't even consider this book for a long time because that, combined with the title ("alpha" plus "dark"), made me think it was a modern seriously BDSM story. It was only after I read the author's funny and delightful 100 Ways to Love Darcy that I even took a look at the description of this story.
Yes, this is dark and not for the faint of heart (trigger warnings!), but very hot. It is based on the alpha, beta, and omega idea, that there are alphas, who are very dominant, "normal" betas, and omegas, who are somehow a complement to an alpha. It intrigued me, as I have read the werewolf stories by Patricia Briggs (excellent, by the way, she's on my automatic-buy list). While there aren't werewolves, I wanted to see this author's version of the alpha/beta/omega theme.
I liked that Darcy tried to be a "gentleman" and allow Elizabeth to feel like she had a choice in their bonding. The assault of Wickham went on perhaps longer than it needed to, but the end result was good (she realizes that she would choose Darcy). The love and bonding between ODC were well done.
Even though I liked the book very much, it had deficiencies that mostly were of omission. I wanted more of this universe's "history" of alphas, betas, and omegas explained. Things were hinted, like that there are fewer omegas now than in the past, and many people thinking the whole idea is an old wive's tale. These could have been elaborated upon. The cook at Pemberly seemed to know things but never divulges them - why is that? I would have liked to have that in there. In addition, it made no sense that Mr. Bennet never explained any of this to Elizabeth, leaving her exposed as prey to any alpha when her "heat" came around. His logic (such as it was) for this should have been explained, since it clearly turned out to be irresponsible.
If you like this kind of story, I do recommend this book.
