Interesting commentary on the the way of life for Yupik Eskimos in a coastal town of western Alaska. The book includes the history of the region, with an emphasis on Moravian and Russian Orthodox religions as well as the shamanism of earlier times. In addition, the effects of European and American values and customs on the traditions of the Yupik give food for thought. There is also a good deal of detail regarding salmon fishing.

I only read this first 60 or so pages of this book so this may not be a fair rating. There was nothing about the story that captured my attention.
