Author of The Infernal Guard Trilogy, I live between New Mexico and Punjab with my husband, two daughters, and extended relatives, traveling around Asia and Europe reluctantly as those who get nauseated in modes of transportation will understand. I grew up attending boarding school in Northern India and always dreamed of being a writer. Thanks to Amazon and self-publishing, dreams really do come true.
Dracula has always been an intriguing character, hasn't he? Drink blood to live? Definitely interesting! As soon as I saw this cover, I knew I was down! Throw all my money at that miraculous sight!
I really loved how the story was told through journals, emails, etc. I've never read the original book, but I think I may need to now! I'm usually more of a vampire movie person, but I was sucked into this world and these characters! The bond between these people and how they sacrificed themselves with selflessness to help one another was amazing!
My favorite part would have to be at the beginning when Jonathan first encounters Dracula and all the lovely and creepy descriptions that came with it. From there, things get super interesting for the remainder of the book! Absolutely adored this one and the beautiful writing!
I just finished Dracula Retold by S.G.D. Singh. I loved it. She took a wonderful classic and made it more appealing for modern readers. It doesn't matter if you've read Dracula or not. I've started Dracula several times and never finished. I read Dracula Retold in two days. I encourage you to check out S.G.D. Singh's other books as well. You won't be disappointed.
Being someone who has never read Dracula, I still have to say WOW about this book! Even with it being longer, I couldn't stop myself from read it. I devoured it in a day and a half. I would have gotten it done in a day if life didn't get in the way. I LOVED every second of it!!
The characters are so easy to love from the beginning. The suspense from going through the pages make you want to bite your nails for the character and hope they find a way to all make it out alive. It being a horror I definitely knew something was going to happen but I was never able to guess what the next curveball was going to be.
I found myself feeling bad for Dracula at certain times, but I knew that I shouldn't and he would prove himself to not be worthy of any of my concern. The author still makes you have doubt about your bad feelings due to her expressive detail of all the moments to make you want to love even the hardest to love creatures. I was happy for the outcome even if it will put tears in your eyes.
As I stated before, I haven't read Dracula, but now I am scared to read it because this book engrossed me so completely that I don't think even the classic could compare to my love for this book. The details, characters, and overwhelming suspense and emotions will carry you from page to page and leave you without words when you finish the last page!
This is by far my favourite version of Dracula. I have read Bram Stoker's Dracula and although I like the story I'm sad to say, because of the dated language, I found it hard to concentrate and fell asleep... multiple times. I even watched one of the films after reading SGD Singh's version and was sorely disappointed. She has taken a classic, brought it into modern times and added her own style, which is more engaging and makes you care a great deal more about the characters... Van Helsing and Quincey will forever be in my heart now! I'm glad I have been able to read this book and look forward to reading it again and again.
I haven't read the original book on Dracula but I must say I was 'wowed' by the writing skills and the lengthy detail of the descriptions of Dracula and the 3 women .. It was just awesome. Sadly it took about 4 days as life came in the way of reading(otherwise I'd finish it in a day or 2) , but otherwise it was just sooooo good .I'm really glad I gave this book a chance .
Thank You Siri for wirting this amazing book . Found 4 good quotes tooo.
I loved the original Dracula. The only downfall was that I am a YA reader and the classic style was, while perfectly fine, too far above my head. It took me forever to read. Dracula Retold is perfect! It is pretty much spot on following the original story but in a modern setting with a much easier-to-read style. Same great story, amazing friendships, lovable characters, and dramatic conclusion. I would highly recommend this book whether you have read the original or not.
I've never read the original Dracula series and, therefor, was a little worried that I would miss something. I don't feel like I did. While there may be nods to the original that I didn't catch, this story was not lost on me. It was nothing like I expected, yet I didn't really mind. It's a read I'd recommend to other vampire fans or Dracula enthusiasts! I shared more thoughts and some of my favorites in my full review here!https://www.storybookem.com/post/book...
I started reading Dracula by Bram Stoker just because I had never read it. I was having trouble with the old style words and writing so when I saw this book I had to put the other down half way through and try reading Dracula Retold. I am so glad I did. While the old version was compelling this version had me captured immediately. It followed very closely to the original version but was just so much easier to read. I finished it in no time and hated to see it end. Definitely a good read if you like this type of book.
I could not put this book down! I finished it in two days! Not my usual genre but I’ve been wanting to read this one for a while. It read like an old classic but with modern conveniences. You are drawn right in with the characters and their mission. Just the right amount of creepiness!
