You have the right to remain magic.

Any spell you use can be used against you.

The Marshal of Magic has one job. Hunt down witches and wizards gone rogue. Keep the balance in world between light and dark. And drink good craft beer.

He's one of twelve in the world tasked with going up against the strongest, worst and most evil magic users. Some people let all that power go to their head.

Not him though. Because he thinks his appointment's a joke. He doesn't know why the Judge picked him. And he's got a mouth smarter than the spells he can cast with the flick of a finger.

Someone is hunting soldiers in the canyons of Afghanistan and instead of sending the Marshal of Asia, the Judge poof's him over to investigate.

It's nasty. And dangerous.

And that is not the way he likes it. He's gonna have to work fast before a hurricane sized spell blankets the land and sends them all to Hell.

Great magical prequel!

Guns and Magic by Chris Lowry is a fun new magical prequel with wizards being used in war. This is a short story to get a fun taste of it and I liked it! I am certainly going to read more of this! Intriguing!

kindle unlimited, usually would give this a 5 or a 5-ish because no half stars, BUT between it being serialized, redone in some ways from a previous version, and then still full of typoes, etc, can only give it a 3.

Okay the way it ends makes it seem like there will definitely be deeper stories coming. However, this story felt disjointed. I thought the person named in the first chapter was the main character of the book. Even when he seemed gravely injured, I thought that was him in the next chapter and maybe the before chapters were earlier in his life. It wasn’t until towards the end that I realized the actual main character was a different person who was only ever called the Marshal. This would have been understandable if there wasn’t more than one marshal in this world. I mean I am hoping that he gets more explanation in the next story at least.

I rarely read prequels or shorts and didn't know this was one of the same.
I was not sure that I would like this book but read on and was very surprised.
This short story was fast moving and clearly written. I enjoyed it!
I will be reading more.
I was given this book for free and gladly give my honest review.

You’ve heard of Voodoo and sticking pins in dolls. You’ve heard of Harry Potter, wands and spells. But battle magic as described here requires no props and can kill without any signs of injury, control weather, earth, wind, and fire. Since we’re in the desert water isn’t an issue. These mages can trans-locate by an act of will.

What they can’t do is perform proper editing.

Cool

Didn't know it was a prequel. But it was free and cool concept so off I went.

Lots of good world building in a very short story. It will be interesting to see where it goes.

Fun adventure

A fun and witty action adventure. A good introduction to this series. And as usual with short stories, I wish it had been longer 😁

War Mage

Not sure what to expect but I enjoyed it. The only thing I could complain about was it was too short

This was a prequel and was very short. Also, it didn't grab or keep my interest at all. Not for me.

Short prequel, looks like fun series. The writing is a bit unclear, but it’s an imaginative introduction to a war of magicians and mages.
