The good: A diverse collection of short oral histories about Utah during WWII. The "meh": I didn't give it a higher rating because it lacks notes to put the histories in context. With oral histories collected many years after the event, people may remember facts incorrectly or let contemporary ideas color their interpretation of what happened. I don't doubt the authenticity of the stories in the collection, but they're left to stand on their own without any guidance about "this seems to have been a typical experience" or "this was unusual for the time," or even, "This is more about the event the person is talking about." The takeaway: A good supplement to research on World War II and Utah's experience in the war, but doesn't stand alone.
