They changed their names and left their old lives behind… but when their paths collide, their pasts come back to haunt them. And this time, there’s no running away.
Genevieve fled her religious community with no understanding of what to expect from ‘normal’ society…or what they would expect from her. Armed with nothing more than a sinful list of experiences she’s eager to live, she meets Cobra: a resident gym bad boy who struts around like he could undress her with his eyes alone.
Snagging a job at Holt Body Fitness is the only break of luck Cobra’s had since his life took a nosedive as a teen, and it’s just a matter of time before this goes downhill, too. So when ultra-innocent Gen stumbles onto his bleak path, his eagerness for distractions leads him to helping her with every item on her “Sin List”…except for one.
But as the two of them plunge headfirst into a list of sins that are equal parts sizzling and intense, Cobra inches closer to a scary new reality. One that might be too good to be true. One that will force him to choose between the only family he’s ever known, and the one thing he swore to never need: love.
Fans of Penelope Ward and Nicole Snow will love this swoony standalone in the interconnected books of The Breaking Series.
I didn't care much for Cobra or Gen. They both seemed a little lackluster. Their chemistry was good, but not much else. I got to the last chapter, and thought this is it just like the last three..they're together and done. Imagine my surprise when one more swipe revealed an very nice epilogue.
I had a great feeling I would love Breaking the Sinner and Ember Leigh did not disappoint. And although this is my first of her books, it definitely won't be the last, especially with three previous books to the Breaking the Rules series. So much passion and fierce determination filled the storyline and I couldn't have been any happier with how everything went down.
The uniqueness of the characters and what they wanted to accomplish was what truly grabbed my attention. Gen is new to Los Angeles after leaving her family behind in the tightknit religious community she was raised in. Wanting to experience the world beyond that small area gave Gen the idea to make a list of things she wanted to learn and do, starting with a new job that leads her right into the path of Cobra, who was just as intrigued since that first initial meet. Finding the list was the icing on top for Cobra to spend time with Gen, and the two form a crazy agreement to work through it in the time span of three months.
Gen and Cobra couldn't be any more different which made their interactions all the better. With Gen being so naive was actually a blessing because no matter what happened with Cobra, the drama was basically nonexistent and always brought these two back together. It was very saddening though for Cobra to constantly put himself down and not believe he deserves a better life, even though he was making it happen at the same time as having those thoughts. Cobra's relationship with Gen couldn't have been more perfect for him. The light that was Gen's simple viewing of the world kept the scales tipped to keep Cobra on the right path and his mind from slipping more than they could have.
The storyline flowed very well and was nonstop entertainment. There was always an attraction between Cobra and Gen but I really love they took things so much further with a friendship that grew stronger everyday. I can also appreciate the fact that not one character made fun of Gen and her lack of knowledge for basically anything and what's more, she took the world head on without fear of what others thought. Overall, Breaking the Sinner was such an excellent read with a great mix of fun, serious, and downright heartbreaking and I look forward to learning more about the other characters when I go back and read their books.
I've really been enjoying this series so far! I think this one was my fave so far, although I havent read the third book in the series yet. buuut yeah. Breaking the Sinner had me hooked from the first page. It was one hell of a journey reading this one, an epic adventure of Cobra and Gen’s love story that ended in an epic way. Looking forward to reading more in this series!
Wow. This is my sixth book by Ember Leigh and I conclude that she just writes the books that I love to read. Everything about her books draws me in and captures my attention without question. She has a vibrant writing voice and an impeccable writing style that I adore. I'm simply addicted to her books!
This book was a little bit different from other books that I have read by this author. The lives and pasts of the main characters dictated something a little different and I loved every moment of this story.
I was honestly a little apprehensive prior to reading this one because the main female lead character is a virgin at the start of the story and I don't usually like that trope. I shouldn't have been concerned though because Leigh blew my mind with this one. I really liked the angle that she chose to go with. The story was fantastic and I loved the route that the story took. I loved the themes that played in the background of the story.
It was such a pleasure to get to know these characters. Both main characters came from totally different worlds but they fall together so easily. Cobra and Gen both captured my heart. They are both struggling with some internal things throughout the story and I enjoyed their journeys both separately and together.
Overall, this was another big win from Ember Leigh. I simply cannot get enough of her stories! I am so eager to find out what is next from her. Ember Leigh is one of my top new-to-me author finds of 2019!
Genevieve/Gen was wearing a top that was two bra sizes too small for her and barely fit in it. She was at a professionally staged photo shoot for her new jobs - Holt Body Fitness- for a calendar that the proceeds were going to local charities. But this made her skin crawl being dressed like this and pictures taken. She had been bred to avoid these kinds of situations . Being the object of lusty thoughts via this sext-time calendar. This was only the third day of her job. But this is what she had come to L A for to live life. Gen had a list of things she wanted to wanted to learn and do. Gen had been living in a God fearing bubble. Gen hadn’t realized how hard integrating into the rest of the world. Gen was in a chair getting her hair and makeup done Than she seen him…. Everything she ever wanted physically in a man. He was watching her. Cobre decided Red-Gen- was going to be his. Cobra had saved Lexs life and once he healed form the stabbing he helped Cobra get the job at Holt Body fitness. Travis had been his boss for the last two months. It wasn’t in Cobra’s nature to listen to authority. Showing up on time to work, committing longer than a few weeks was foreign to Cobra. Lex understood something about Cobra that he himself wouldn’t voice. Every since Cobra had saved Lex, his life had turned a Tilt-A- Whirl. He now had steady money. Cobra had a personal rule- nobody saw where he lived. There was a meet up later of the coworkers - half mixer, half calendar celebration. Most if Cobra’s coworkers made him uneasy. Too many picture perfect people who probably had all the opportunities Cobra never even dreamed of. Lex was the only one Cobra could open up to. Lex knew where Cobra came from. What was normal for him. The two of them shared the bond of underground fighting. When at the get together gen falls off her bar stool- it was the first time she had ever drank alcohol and had mixed her drinks. Amara had met Gen at a different job interview and they became friends.Cobra thought maybe she was an alien especially when Amara said Gen was new to all this. While drunk Gen admitted she farted when Cobra had lifted her for the photoshoot and also admitted she liked him although she thought he didn’t like her. Cobra than told Amara he’d get Gen home. When Gen finally got to work-late- the next day Cobra stopped in her office . he gave her advice about drinking and brought up the list she had made up. Gen’s family had lived in a closed community and had strong beliefs and prevented Gen from getting her freedom. But she had ran away.gen and Cobra start to get to know each other and he decides to help her do some of the Things on hwe list. They come from completely opposite backgrounds. Than feelings start to get involved. Cobra told Gen to walk away from him but she wouldn’t let him go. Gen helped Cobra out and seen him at his lowest and was there for him. Cobra had never imagines himself as a successful person and not good enough for someone especially Gen. I really enjoyed this book. It was a very emotional read with a lot of angst but also two people from totally different worlds. I loved how protective Gen became of Cobra and how she became the one thing to light up his life. I got angry reading about Gen’s family and how they were and treated her. I loved how Gen stood by Cobra even though he told her to leave and she wouldn’t give up on him. I was happy when Cobra got rid of his bad roommates. I choked up a lot while reading this and a time or two tears went down my cheeks . I felt like I was there with Gen and Cobra. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend this.
This book was incredibly heartwrenching and heartwarming all in one.
Having left a cult like environment where her family had kept her sheltered from almost everything, naive and curious beyond words, Gen finds herself in LA, surrounded by a world she knew very little about. Gen meets Cobra during an advertising photo shoot for Holt Body Fitness where they both work. And then Gen lets out an embarrassing fart when Cobra lifts her up... just the beginning of the ongoing hilarious and embarrassing things she does around the gorgeous man that is so very much out of her league. But she is instantly curious and drawn to the tough, muscled, tattooed Cobra. She sees something in him that he can't see in himself. And so begins a journey of working through her bucket list to experience all the things she has missed out on in life, and it seems Cobra is determined to assist her with it. And Gen is equally determined to help Cobra see he is a good person regardless of the environment he came from.
Abandoned by everyone in his life, Cobra is now trying to figure out how to lift himself up to something more while his past keeps trying to pull him back into the jaws of hell. Meeting the sweet, innocent Gen has him staggering and Cobra can't believe the wisp of a red head actually sees something good in him when he sure can't find it in himself. He immediately wants to claim her as his. Finding her bucket list just has him more determined to battle through his demons because he sure isn't going to let anyone else help her work through it. Especially all the sexy things she wants to experience. However, Cobra makes it clear there won't be any attachments, no 'relationship', because he truly believes he isn't worthy of a woman like her.
There is only one thing that should have been either left out or changed to make more sense. There is no way in freaking hell Cobra's two sloppy, drugged out roommates could have held him down and beat the bloody hell out of him, especially considering the way he worked out and had transformed his body.
Romance trope: new adult Series: Breaking Length: 354 pages
Plot: Cobra and Gen are both remaking themselves while working at Holt Fitness. Gen has left her ultra-religious cult-like community and Cobra is making a go of it after a lifetime of trauma and tragedy. The two of them connect but they both have secrets and past hurts that make it difficult for them to hold on to each other when they need to the most.
Commentary: Cobra - he made me so sad! I wonder how many people are stuck in bad situations like that - in a living situation with people who are holding him back/down (literally when they beat him up), mired in drugs, unable to cope with trauma and depression because they've never been given the tools. And then losing the one person who was on his side (his stepfather). But Gen had the exact opposite outcome. She had trauma from her cult-like upbringing and the car accident that took her cousin's life. Nobody in her family tried to help her but instead of falling into bad habits or destructive paths, she always kept a positive outlook and did whatever she could to make things better (even as she struggled with some negative self-talk that really couldn't be helped as she went through the process of relearning some basic living skills). I really felt for them both, and it was completely in keeping with their personalities that Gen didn't really make him grovel after she got back from Europe (although I'm sure the time apart helped tamp down the hurt and anger).
Cobra came from foster care and has had to fight for everything he has. He doesn’t know anything else. After he saves the life of Lex, he is given a better chance but can’t find a way to change his thought process, so he continues to live in the darkness that surrounds him. After meeting Gen, he finds the light in his life, but doesn’t believe he deserves it continues to sabotage his happiness.
Genevieve has left a life of control and religious zealots. Her family lives off the grid and they preach the bible continuously. After Gen (her chosen name) leaves her family to find herself and what the real world is like, she decides to live her life outside of her comfort zone to gain a taste for what life is like outside of her small world she was raised in. She’s adventurous, intrigued, and open to all kinds of exploration. She is a woman that sees more than most. She is surprised that Cobra is interested in her because she doesn’t know her worth and has never been treated as an equal or a woman who can accomplish much.
These two take a journey of self-reflection, understanding, and growth. They will both come to terms with their pasts and find a way to move forward with their lives and live it to the fullest. They will go through some dark times as well as some challenges, but they will persevere in the end and their true self-worth will come out. I loved this story of Cobra and Gen’s journey as well as the close family of Hold Body Fitness. I give this story a 4.5-Star review and suggest it to readers who are looking for a tough guy that finds his soft side as well as the one person that can change his life for the better, even if he has to make some of those changes on his own.
This story opens with Gen doing a photo shot with other women at the gym for a calendar. There you are introduced to her not so way of the world ways. You think that she is just naive, which she is but there is more to it. Embarrassing herself during the photo-shoot with Cobra she leaves. They do not meet again until everyone is at a local bar. It is then that he notices just hew simple sweet and beautiful she is, and also very drunk. Finding out where she lives, he takes her home and it is there he sees her list. Not making any sense he is then kicked out by her roommate who has come home. The story takes you on a journey that I did not see when I began reading. Frist you find out that Gen is not her real name but one she chose. She was kicked out of her families overbearing religious cult like life and is living in L.A. with someone who also came from that life. Her and Cobra are attracted to each other and as she tries to help him, he pulls away. The last time is leaving her and she had to walk three miles and then take a bus back to L.A. When he finally comes around guess what she is gone to Europe now he is screwed. Will they get back together after the three months? Will she even want him? Read this good book to find out and see how she takes control of her life. A very good book and good characters. I received this book from Netgally.com I gave it 5 stars. Coming in to this series at book four, I wasn't too sure what to expect with Breaking the Sinner, however was left pleasantly surprised. Cobra and Gin turned out to be pretty dang interesting all on their own.
"Cobra was fascinating. He was hard-edged but soft in the middle."
Love this type of guy. The tough guy that is actually a teddy bear when his woman is around. Cobra isn't the dating type, but for Gen, things can be arranged. As in, a three-month arrangement with her to help her with her list.
The list. Gen was sheltered her whole life and has finally decided to take charge of it herself. She's got a self-imposed year to get all the things she's listed done and then is heading back home. While she's checked off a few, most of the others have to do with a guy. Enter Cobra.
She's not looking for strings and neither is he. Sounds perfect, however it's anything but. As predictable as the story line is, it was fun to get there. Ember Leigh probably had fun with these characters, because I had fun reading them. Gen was so out of touch with so many things most people don't think twice about.
The book is well written and held up nice as a standalone. Some of the past was mentioned, however not enough to make you feel lost reading. Our main characters got the spotlight and did a great job keeping it.
Thanks to the publisher for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.
This is one of those books where two people meet, and seem like polar opposites then end up being more alike than you figure. Cobra meets Gen as they both work at Holts Gym, they take a serious liking to each other, and then reality hits. Cobra has a history with drugs and depression, never really think he will amount to much or be good enough. Gen comes from a zealot family, and her self confidence takes a hit from it. These are two people who are better together.
What did I like? The chemistry between the two was great, I could really feel for the characters. Cobra was finding a way out of a bitter situation with his roommates, and Gen really wanting to experience life ...a reality that you felt could happen to two such characters. I loved how the two ended up.
Would I buy this book? I thought it was a pretty good read...so yes. I was gifted a copy but yes I would definitely loan this one out too. This is a really great series!
Thoughts for the author? Great series and great characters! I really enjoyed it. Four fun stars for entertainment!
This book is the first I’ve read by this author and I now want to go back and read the three previous books in the series. When we first start this book Gen is doing a modeling gig and embarrassing herself with Cobra. They all meet up at a bar and Cobra has a new outlook on Gen- she is sweet, funny and a whole lot drunk. When he takes her home that night he finds The List. Her growing up in a religious cult she hasn’t had the chance to experience life and all it has to offer. Cobra is not the dating type but he makes an exception for Gen to help her with her list.
They are beyond attracted to each other, but when Gen tries to help Cobra he pulls away every time. The last time he does this it was the last straw for Gen and she disappears to Europe. When cobra family decides to pull his head out of his a$$ will it be too late for the relationship to work?
I really enjoyed the story. Gen makes you believe in whatever upbringing you are dealt you can overcome it. They are two damaged characters with a totally different backgrounds but they find each other. Will they help each other heal or will there be no overcoming the past?
Gen has decided to see what the world has to offer besides where she grew up. She made a list of things to do and see. When she meets Cobra, she knows who she wants for part of her list. She's very naive and innocent in the ways of the world and Cobra is the complete opposite.
Cobra has been through a lot, seen a lot and done a lot. He thinks that he's not good enough for the job that he has or for Gen. He wants to help Gen with her list though. While teaching her things that's on that list, he doesn't realize it but Gen's teaching him things too.
She has to keep motivating Cobra that he can be whatever he wants, he just needs to believe in himself. All of this happening while these two develop feelings for each other, which of course makes Cobra want to bail out but Gen won't let him.
I liked that Gen knew what she wanted and fought for it. No matter the obstacle, she was there pushing them out of the way.
Looking for a steamy, innocent romance? Breaking the Sinner is next up on your TBR!
Gen is the innocent, new-to-romance girl who recently escaped her strict, religious background. Cobra is the steamy, tough guy working at the local gym. Both are at the gym's calendar photoshoot, and each can't help but feel something towards the other, even after an embarrassing moment.
This book is definitely on the more steamy side of Adult Romance. From the beginning, we are immersed in a charged connection between the couple. The two couldn't be more opposite from one another, but soon enough, the corruption takes over and we're falling into a pit of romance!
If you're looking for a thrilling book to devour over a cozy weekend, this one is for you. It is the first book that I've read from the Author, and I will say, that I want to get ahold of the others! There are intense moments and an emotional twist towards the end. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.
This was a different sort of story for me. Gen, a very naïve young woman, left her family when she couldn’t accept their religious obsessions. She meets Cobra at the gym. When Gen goes out for a drink with co-workers, her first time, she naturally gets drunk and Cobra makes sure she gets home safely.
In the process, Cobra got a look at Gen’s list of items in her notebook that she wanted to experience, which had been prohibited in her strict home. The two of them agree to work together on her “learn to do” list for 3 months. This would include dating, cursing, kissing, and other random things people do as they are growing up. Do they get through her list? Do they fall in love as they get to know each other?
I can’t say that I really warmed up to the characters. I felt bad about their difficult lives, happy when they both started to heal and grow. But the story line just didn’t capture me and pull me in as I had hoped. It’s not bad, just not a good match for me.
This is my first book by Ember Leigh and it was a great story to read over the weekend. You have bad boy meets good girl. Bad boy needs to stay away before corrupting good girl. Until he finds out how bad she wants to me.
Breaking the Sinner had me hooked to every page. Gen and Cobra were a perfect pair. The naughty and sinful things Cobra could teach Gen will have you shaking with anticipation. I loved the characters and this story line will have you enthralled from beginning to end!
A truly lovely story of love between two, seemingly, unlikely people trying to move forward, despite the millstones that life has provided them with. Breaking the Sinner successfully addresses so many issues in a manner which is thoughtful and caring. In theory, Cobra and Gen are total opposites: one from an actively separating environment and one from a background which, he feels, separates him, from 'normal' society and opportunities for a different, better life. Their struggles are tough, but, in each other, they have found possibilities, if they have the courage to grasp them. In terms of corage, thwy both possess this; in terms of vulnerability, ironicalky, I felt Cobra was the more vulnerable. Don't miss out on this journey if two lovely, deserving people. I thoroughly enjoyed it ..and, be warned, those emails!! So beautiful! Xx
I thoroughly enjoyed this one... in the beginning with the photo shoot and the whole farting scene made me laugh my ass off. Actually I laughed just as much as I cried during this book. Cobra’s backstory was heartbreaking just as much as Gen’s backstory was for lack of a better term stifling. Gen’s family almost reminded me of families in the old country Mormon counties that still exist in rural areas. Cobra’s past although heartbreaking, his present was filled with so called friends who quite literally abused him to keep him under their thumbs.
I almost wish that Cobra would have tipped off the cops to them being drug dealers but the fall back would have landed on him squarely, Tyler and Klay would have made sure of that.
So far this has been my favorite book in this series and I’m looking forward to reading the next books in this series.
I enjoyed this book! Author Ember Leigh does a great job with the characters and story line! Cobra is "from the wrong side of the tracks" he has seen and done it all. He gets a good job and things are starting to improve, but he is just waiting for the other shoe to drop, he feels he doesn't deserve better. Cobra and Gen meet at work, Gen is very naive and very innocent, she comes from a strict religious "cult" and finally gets out and wants to try and do everything. Gen has made a to-do list or bucket list, and Cobra finds this list and wants to help Gen accomplish the things on it. There is an instant attraction and as they spend more time together, the more they feel. Love the chemistry between Cobra and Gen, this is a great story. I highly recommend.

Goody 2 shoes Genevieve had to get away from her family and live a life she didn't know existed until she had her accident and was in recovery for several months...She just had to experience this life herself!
Bad boy Cobra has had a rough life until he saved Lex's life and he brought him to the Holt family... he didn't feel deserving of all of this good happening to him and felt guilty...he always had a short timeline with anything good before it all disappeared.
Working at the same Fitness center brought goody 2 shoes and bad boy together. Bad boy wanted to help strengthen goody 2 shoes leg, but the more time spent together, the more feelings arose. They both had an agreement from the start, but will the agreement last???
Gen was raised in a strict religious environment that left her stifled and unprepared for the world. When she manages to escape that life, she made a list of all the things that she wants to see and do and Cobra is just the man to help her accomplish her goals.
As innocent as Gen is Cobra is just as jaded. He has seen and done so many things that he wished he hadn’t, and he is determined to help Gen accomplish her goals and protect her at the same time. As they spend time together these two opposites may just realize that they have found in each other what they never knew they wanted.
I really enjoyed these characters and the journey they took together to become the people that they were meant to be.
This is book three in The Breaking series. These books could be read as standalone but I recommend reading the series. In this book we get to meet Gen (Genevieve) and Cobra. Each of these have a past that could have destroyed them but they have soldier through. Gen has a list of things that she has always wanted to do. Cobra is leary and untrusting but he is willing to help Gen tackle this list of hers. These two characters are opposites but each day that they spend together working on lost, it brings them together slowly. They become friends and everything builds and evolves from there for them. I believe this is way they both need in order to get their HEA in the end.

Opposites attract but can they be what each other really need
Breaking The Sinner is the first book I have read by Ember Leigh and it was way more than I thought it was going to be. You are just never sure if you will like a "new to you" author's writing style and story telling but the book description for Breaking The Sinner was to intriguing to pass by. I was fascinated by the hard edges of Cobra and the soft vulnerability of Gen. The story-line was well thought out and it showed in the writing along with the characters being so different but yet they fit together quite well in so many ways, including with some really major smoking chemistry.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
This book is freaking awesome! I love this series and the addition of Cobra and Gen make the family complete. I was waiting for Cobra to get a clue and move out and I kept hoping it would happen before it was to late, before he would lose Gen. I loved the self discovery part that Gen took, she really came into her own and it was an excellent journey. I wanted more, another epilogue with a proposal in the library, or for them to go somewhere on vacation together. I just wanted more!! I couldn’t put this book down, the storyline was amazing! Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book, it was great!!
This is the story of Gen, a young woman finding her way in the world, after growing up in a very sheltered, and religious home. Moving to LA, on her own, she gets a job at a gym, and meets Snake. Snake likes her right away, and they form a friendship, one built with the plan to give Gen a crash course in life. This was a great book, I love reading Snake, and Gen's journey, and the love, and acceptance they had for one another. This book is emotional, steamy, intriguing, intense, and romantic. This is must read.

This book truly is outstanding I found myself cheering and rooting for Cobra and Jen the emotional journey and the life lessons theses two awesome characters learned. But some times there are often moments you come across while reading where you just want to smack one or both characters and just say really here your sign Jen and her ultra religious family and Cobra and the idiots he lived with but that just me. The bottom line this book totally rocks and was downright awesome and I'd love to read more books like this one.

Gen and Cobra story blew me away. A good girl/bad boy young adult romance with characters that definitely fit their ages. Meaning you're either going to like or dislike them. I majority liked them but I did yell a time or 2.
They have knocked on the gates of he** and been through alot which had me hooked because I had to know that better was going to happen to them. This one has it all. Ember knows how to write. You are going to experience feelings and emotions. The plot was so good and the build to the connection wasn't rushed. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting their bookworld. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review
