GENDERBENT FAIRYTALES COLLECTION Alister in Wonderland Handsome and the Yeti Petra Pan
A genderbent reimagining of the classic fairytale Alice in Wonderland…
Alister Kingsley is an eccentric, London artist who is famous for his surreal, fanciful paintings set in a land that only exists in his imagination: Wonderland.
Alister’s ‘dream girl’ Madeline Hatter wasn’t supposed to be real. But when the White Rabbit shows up at his art expo, and leads him down the rabbit hole Alister comes face-to-face with the Mad Hatter herself when she rescues him from getting barbequed by the King of Heart’s pet: the Jabberwocky.
As it turns out, Madeline got herself into a pickle, and needs Alister’s help. She has him sign a magical contract that enters him into a tournament to win her hand in marriage. Alister must complete an impossible task, participate in a Wonderland Joust where the rules aren’t exactly normal, and defeat the other contenders: Crimson the King of Hearts, Clover the White King, and Cheshire Cat slave, Chesher.
Madeline isn’t allowed to help Alister, and Crim keeps sending assassins after his head. Will Alister be able to win the tournament so that Madeline won’t have to marry the sadistic, bloodthirsty King of Hearts?

I have listen to the authors book and every one of them are great. The book Allister in Wonderland you see Allesiter is painter and he does a lot of the picture and then he like to be by him self and then he sell his painting and one of his painting was a unusual one and it look like the Alice in Wonderland but it was him he painting and then it was the place were they are living .
You see he was in the shop and a women came up and bought the painting and she a cougar and then she thought she has Allister but something distract him he saw a rabbit and he has the out fit on then the pic was perfect, Now the story is great it goes to see that you can not believe what you see and then i was in wonderland and then and not knowing what to do i have to play there games,
We have to go through things and then you see the people in the book take you to fairy land and then see if you believe in them and be part them you will in joy the book and i did he book thank you for letting me listen to the audio
I received an Audible code from the author for an honest review. What follows is my opinion and mine alone. There was no compensation for this review.
I am officially in love with the genderbent fairy tales KuroKoneko Kamen writes. Each book stands well on their own, but are actually a part of a larger universe. I'm not sure if you need to read them in order of publication, but I didn't and I don't feel like it took away from any of the stories.
Alister in Wonderland is an Alice in Wonderland retelling with an artist coward as our main hero. Despite his cowardice, he perseveres and learns many things about himself and the world he used to only know in his paintings.
I love that KuroKoneko Kamen weaves pop culture into the stories, but doesn't let the references overtake the characters. Kamen is able to not only pay homage to the original story source, but also make a unique tale of its own. Not to mention one that reaches into other stories to make a bigger universe. Oh to be a fly on the wall in Kamen's office and see the universe notes.
All in all, this book is an action-packed read and had me entertained through the whole thing.
As in the other genderbent books, the female and male characters switch roles from the original story. I love this twist. This story follows the original closely, but Alister in Wonderland is an adult twist on the child's fairytale. Steamy scenes are cleverly placed within the tale. The winks at a few different fairytales within this story were like little Easter Eggs to find and enjoy. The magical elements of the characters added to the fun. I really enjoyed the scene between the brothers. It was a turn in the story, I never saw coming.
L.A. Johnson narrated this story. Mr. Johnson was easy to follow and fun to listen to. He was able to narrate each character as I imagined them. Mr. Johnson brought out the best and even the worst of each character. Mr Johnson narrated both the male and female characters with ease. The narration added to the overall experience of this story.
I received this book for free at my request but the opinion is of my own. This book was completely awesome I think the gender reversal made it very interesting and putting it with today’s time. I also loved there was some difference to the original Alice story. The one thing that bugged me though least via audio was the repeating of this is the end of chapter so and so unto chapter whatever. This is really a bit distracting but thankfully the story and characters was so strong that was able to still enjoy the book.
Alister in Wonderland is an unusual take on the Alice in Wonderland fairy-tale. Alice is now Alister, the Cheshire Cat and Mad Hatter are female as are other usual female characters.
This is a fun reimagining of the Alice in Wonderland story very close to the original fairy tale but with a modern, gender bending twist.
I read this novel in an advance ARC, and enjoyed it so much I downloaded Theodore Gale in Oz. This market itself I think as Young Adult, but there are scenes of a very sexual nature which surprised me, as I don’t remember those from the original fairy-tale.
I love Alice In Wonderland retellings, and this is by far one of my favorites. The author made it not only gender bent but also added a taste of BDSM to it. Alistair being a magical artist and not just some silly girl falling down a rabbit hole really helped the story line. I also liked that she brought in elements from a few other stories/ fairytales. We also got more than just the King of Hearts and Clubs in this one. We also heard from Diamond and Spade. Other than the errors that are seen from the arc copy I really enjoyed this book. Highly recommend if your a fan of retellings.
From Alice to Alister the adventure in Wonderland is amusing and will certainly make you laugh out loud! There are many twists and turns in this adventure and will certainly keep you listening or reading to the end! Cheers to KuroKoneko Kamen for her wonderful imagination in rewriting an old tale into something more!
This retelling of Lewis Carroll's classic has been re-written into a delightfully twisted version of "The Bachelorette". The bachelorette in question is spirited and feisty and the contestants are each very different yet in their own individual ways, laudable and flawed. This was such fun to read!
If you know me at all, you know I'm a sucker for retellings. Add in a genderbend, and I just had to read this! I quickly fell in love with Alister and Madeline (and all the other characters); they're unique and quirky, and absolutely unforgettable. This was an excellent new twist on one of my favorite stories, and after reading this, I absolutely have to read more by this author!
I listened to the audio of this. This was an excellent retelling of Alice in Wonderland where the roles were reversed. Enjoyed listen to the narrator tell this story. Loved the storyline and the characters. Didn't want it to end.
I really enjoy the adult spin that this author puts on this gender bender version of Alice in Wonderland. You never know what to expect from chapter to chapter and this is the reason the book is so captivating. With all the twist and turns throughout the story it makes all the characters stories come together nicely.
I loved Alister in Wonderland. It is a unique twist to Alice in Wonderland. The story sucks you in and makes you want to stay. Alister goes on an adventure of a lifetime. It tests him at every turn. He meets amazing characters along the way. A must read for any fairytale lover.
I found this author on Facebook and I think I am in love. I am now going to run thru all of the books. I'll be back with a full review when I get thru the whole genderbent series.
KuroKoneko Kamen puts a fun, adult spin on the classic with her Alister in Wonderland (Genderbent Fairytales Collection, Book 3). If you are not a fan of the typical classics/fairytales like me, this is the book for you. I found I never quite knew what to expect and didn’t want to put it down.
The summary does a great job at giving the gist of the story and I won’t say anything else due to spoilers.
At first I had mixed feeling on the narrator, L. A. Johnson, but as I listened the voice grew on me. Some of the voices were just not for me. It seems as the story advanced, the narration became smoother.
Would I check out another story by KuroKoneko Kamen? Absolutely. Would I check out another by L. A. Johnson? Probably. Overall I’d recommend giving this book a shot.
*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!
I feel bad for only giving 3 stars, but that’s only because this isn’t my typical kind of read. I was gifted an audio version of the book, otherwise I wouldn’t have looked twice at it.
I was genuinely surprised at how immersed I got into the story. The narrator did an excellent job. I knew it was a retelling of Alice in Wonderland, but the twists and turns it kept taking me kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. I thought the way all the characters stories came together in the end was brilliant! The book doesn’t necessarily end on a cliffhanger, but there are still several outstanding questions that need to be answered.
Will I pick up another book to find out the rest of the story? I’m not sure yet. But, it’s been a few days since I’ve finished it and I’m still thinking about the story. I will see how long these thoughts rattle around in my head.
