Redesigning Landry Bishop

Rate this book
Love never goes out of style. Landry Bishop fled his tiny hometown and never looked back. Now his expertise in food, fashion, and décor has earned him all of Hollywood’s glittering perks. But with his husband deceased and his personal assistant retired, Landry has nobody to rely on—and no one to help him indulge his secret cravings. Casual, plainspoken Jordan Stryker seems a dubious choice of a PA for someone as formal and self-controlled as Landry. Jordan’s questionable fashion sense and limited kitchen skills don’t exactly enhance his résumé. But as Landry soon realizes, Jordan has many attractive qualities too. With a strong pull toward Jordan, new career opportunities on the horizon, and a persistent tug from family back home, Landry is in a quandary. He can advise others on how to make their lives special, but what should he do about his own?

Kim Fielding lives in Oregon and travels as often as she can manage. A professor by day, at night she rushes into a phone booth to change into her author costume (which involves comfy clothes instead of Spandex and is, sadly, lacking a cape). Her superpowers include the ability to write nearly anywhere, often while simultaneously doling out assistance to her family. First of all, when I read a book from Kim Fielding, I can’t help swooning at the thought of her fantastic book Rattlesnake : one of my favorite read. But I digress.

"Redesigning Landry Bishop" is a contemporary MM romance, with low-angst, a little bit of steam and a touch of banter, a “comfort” read with two truly nice characters slowly but steadily developing a romantic relationship between LA, Las Vegas and Nebraska, and a gentle HEA.

On one side, you have Landry, who left his Nebraska’s little home-town for LA where he met his now deceased husband and made his career to give nice ideas about food and clothing to sparkle daily life on blogs, books and TV shows : he’s committed, he’s successful and he’s a workaholic. But he might have lost his way to interact with the people around him and to have feelings.

Comes around Jordan : younger, more extraverted, and a carer, as he says about himself. And it’s such in its nature that even Landry can feel that he’s right to give Jordan a chance to fill the PA’s position despite a lack of experience and that in the process, he might be a sweet risk to open up to people, especially his family and specifically Jordan.

It lacks the level of emotion I found in “Rattlesnake” and is a little bit too sweet for my current mood but give it to the author to avoid dramalala and come up with some reflexion about love, care and roots and the simple joy of every-day life, especially when shared. All in all, it’s fluffy, with some fun moments when Jordan indulges or tempers Landry’s snotty side : a nice read for a lazy Sunday.

I really liked both Landry and Jordan. I thought their dynamic was perfectly suited to each other, and loved the dialogue and scenes between them, especially the sprinkling of humor throughout. I could easily have read more.

Single POV, cute, low steam, sweet romance with a lovely happy ending. Good characters and dialogue (though I would have loved Jordan's POV too, but not having it doesn't impact the story greatly). All in all, a fun, pleasurable read. Recommended.

This is the second book in the Stars from Peril series (The Spy's Love Song is #1) but can easily be read as a standalone.

I had a lot of fun writing this story about a fussy Martha Stewart type with secret cravings and his unqualified but eager PA. The settings were great fun too: Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and small-town Nebraska. Here's a little teaser for you: while in Vegas, the guys attend a lesser-known but really funny show. It's a real show and I recommend it next time you're in Vegas.

This was a really sweet, low-angst, romance novel, pairing a Nebraska-born, LA-living workaholic fashion and food blogger and occasional TV personality with a younger, happy-go-lucky man who takes on a job as his PA.

This is a drama-free comfort read. As Landry (Mr. Foodie Fashion) and Jordan (I-just-want-to-get-for-people) get to know each other and spend time with each other, the feelings between them slowly bubble to the surface, a bit faster for Jordan than for Landry, who after his husband's death doesn't quite know how to have feelings anymore. Grief will do that to you.

It's low-steam, as most of the books in the Dreamspun Desires series are, but that doesn't take away from the romance. Jordan extroverted character is a perfect counter-balance to Landry's introvert, and the book takes us along for the ride as they work together, travel together, and as Landry realizes that there's much more to Jordan than he first thought. And learns a few truths along the way as well.

There's no contrived drama, no huge misunderstandings, just a sweet, somewhat fluffy story about two men finding in each other exactly what they've been looking for. Or not looking for, in Landry's case, but exactly what he needed.

As I expected, this is a well-written summer read to take with you to the pool or the beach. Give it a try.

This is so meh, I very quickly found myself struggling to read on and when at past 70% I found something else to read I abandoned it with relief. It's lurked on my 'currently reading' shelf judging me but I quit DNF.

Fielding can be hit-miss with me I've not liked some of her popular books while adoring Rattlesnake and her 'Love Can't' series. This one for me didn't deliver.

Laundry had a dream and made it happen, now he's stuck behind his glossy charade no longer in touch with who he is. Unfortunately it Fielding sold his image to us, the brands and tips, the polish - we never really delve behind. The result feels empty. Who is Laundry away from the camera and blogs? He doesn't know, and doesn't develop beyond the odd guilty calorific meal so neither do we. It's hard to see what motivated him or how he really feels about anything. His ex-husband was either a great love or cold and image-pushing, it's unclear, everything from Laundry gets a spun to suit his image.
Then Jordan. Maybe it's cultural? Be it British reticence or high tuned cynicism; his interview creeped me out! Reminded me of stereotypical beauty queens of yester-year 'I want to save all the cute fluffy animals, world peace...' he wants to be everything for someone, make a difference to a person's life, all said with cute puppy charm. I kept thinking kick him out and tighten security, now, go, go, go. But apparently he's disarming and they're very quickly falling for each other.

I didn't get to the home visit, not expecting any drama there. It's all light fluffy getting together. I'm sure many people will like it, it's not awful - my rating may seem harsh but it for me it was a fight to keep interest to the point I got.

Redesigning Landry Bishop by Kim Fielding is another great example of the skill this author has in creating approachable and likable characters in whom you quickly find yourself emotionally investing. Landry’s loneliness was very real and while it may have been a bit difficult to relate to his privileged sense of ennui about all the lucrative career choices he was being offered and how conflicted he was about them, Landry was still someone who tugged at my heartstrings. But it was Jordan who really stole the show for me. He was just genuinely a nice guy—one who had no ulterior motives or hid any earth-shattering secrets, but instead had simply made his goal in life to make other people happy. I loved how the author had Landry begin to score the smiles that Jordan offered up when something made him joyful. These two men together were really quite adorable and you could sense the rightness in their union and the chemistry growing between them.

Landry Bishop is a keeper, one who’s going to stay with me a long time. Kim Fielding created a wonderful character whose inner sweet man doesn’t match the outer persona he’s spent years creating for mass media. Known as an expert in food, fashion, interior design, homemaking, and beauty tips—Landry is a well-rounded gay man whose popularity in the media is soaring.

When Elaine, his PA and good friend, decides to resign to help take care of her aging parents, Landry is bereft until she convinces him to hire a distant family connection, Jordan Stryker. Jordan has a colorful history—not all of it good. He’s never found his place in the world and has bumbled and bungled his way through several jobs, but he has a heart of gold and a deep desire to make Landry’s life easier, something he happens to excel at.

These two souls come together like two halves of a puzzle piece. Jordan is a fast learner and his overarching desire to make Landry’s life easier makes his job a success. But there’s more than a work relationship forming, and when the two head to Las Vegas on vacation, their sexual attraction explodes. Add in some fun shopping trips, sightseeing, and downtime together, and their togetherness is a given.

But inside, Landry Bishop is still the kid who grew up in Peril, Nebraska, as evidenced by his secret trips for fries and burgers and other treats he “shouldn’t” have. So when his sister convinces him he must come back to Peril, though he dreads going, he takes Jordan and they travel to a town that time forgot to change. There, a major surprise awaits Landry—one that is both well-deserved and shows Landry just how much the real Landry Bishop is valued.

One of the things I most love about Kim Fielding is her love of sharing locations in our country that many of us wouldn’t get to visit without her vivid descriptions and shared experiences. Her enthusiasm comes through and enhances my appreciation of the story by taking me to where the action is happening.

I also love her characters, all of whom are always three-dimensional and interesting. Both main and secondary characters hook me into her stories, and I remember them long after I turn the last page. Considering how many books I read each year, this is high praise, since I often can’t remember the name of the person I met yesterday! But I most certainly can remember the names of many of her MCs: Jaxon, Ennek, Miner, Elliott, Alby, and Xeno to name a few.

I highly recommend this MM romance to those who love just that—Romance with a capital R. Intriguing characters, fun dialogue, all the fun of a trip to Vegas without the expense, and a glimpse at life in Nebraska—what more could we want?

Landry Bishop has left his small hometown of Peril, Nebraska, to become an expert in food, fashion, and décor in glittering Hollywood. However, deep down, Landry wishes that more people see him as Landry Bishop the man, rather than Landry Bishop the star. Because he has cravings to just indulge himself in non-healthy food, but if a lot of people find out, it will taint his brand.

Jordan Stryker is his new personal assistant – a casual, younger, down-to-earth guy, who claims that he has been floating in his twenties but now ready to make the best of himself, and help Landry in any way he can.

My first thought was Redesigning Landry Bishop was sweet with two nice people. There’s no huge drama in this book. Written solely from Landry’s perspective, it’s mostly about Landry connecting with Jordan while experiencing his attraction, while at times thinking about him being Jordan’s boss, as well as trying to be himself and not just ‘the star’.

Jordan makes Landry thinks about relaxing, being himself, and not keep his image or working all the time. I think Jordan balances Landry well. I like the fact that Landry has husband previously, and Landry also learns to live differently now, without having to make the deceased husband “a bad guy”. The deceased husband is different from Jordan, that’s all.

There’s this push and pull of Landry’s hometown, Peril, in form of emails from Landry’s sister, and Landry’s often thinking about how he never fits in, and he doesn’t want to return to Peril. However, for me, one of the charming moments is near the end when Landry indeed returns to Peril. I wish that Kim Fielding takes more time to write scenes of Landry being in Peril, because as it is, the ending (and Landry’s decision that comes near end) feels rather rushed.

This was a very cute, non-angsty read that had me feeling warm and happy.

Landry Bishop has made a name for himself in the world of crafty planning and Pinterest type designing. He hails from small town Peril, Nebraska and has somewhat fallen into a hole of the brand Landry Bishop instead of the person. When his PA decides to move on, she brings Jordan into Landry's life and he not only makes Landry think about who he is, but what he wants.

It was a joy to read something that wasn't messy or complicated. There were no misunderstandings or hateful words. It was like watching a relationship bloom from two MC's who were at a point in their lives where they didn't need games or gimmicks or pleading, but they dove in and went for it.

Both Landry and Jordan were nice guys, and they made each other better just by being together. I'd definitely recommend this for anyone who is looking for a sweet, fun romance with an HEA.

What a perfectly cute story. Two men finding their true selves, while falling in love. Sometimes you need a cute, no angst, insta love kind of book that softens life’s edges. This was that book. I adored and loved both characters. I mean seriously how could you not. I loved how the fell in love, but most of all I loved how they were adults. No secrets, no lies, just straight adult conversations. Perfect.

This can be read as a stand alone, I didn’t realize this was a series until the end when they mentioned a previous character. But I will go back and read that book now. Can’t wait to see what else this author has

“Be more of who you want to be instead of who you think you should be.” — Elaine, Landry’s former PA

‘Redesigning Landry Bishop’ is a story of personal growth that comes when Landry has achieved his dreams – at least the ones that have been his goals since he left his hometown of Peril, Nebraska - and begins to ask the question “Now what?” Actually, he doesn’t really ask the question, instead he begins to feel uneasy, like something is missing. Landry has played a role for so long that he is no longer sure about who he really is or what he really wants. But even though he keeps telling himself that he should be happy with all the fame and the considerable money he has amassed, something is off. When his trusted PA retires and suggests he hire her “sister’s husband’s brother’s son” as a replacement, this sets in motion a chain of events that end up changing Landry’s life.

This book was a pleasure to read, mainly because of the two exceptionally nice main characters. For nice they are indeed; not nauseatingly, flawlessly nice as people can be in bad feel-good-movies or books, but as nice as human beings can get. They both have flaws, they both have fears and issues, but they try to be respectful with others, which comes as a welcome change after a day at work where you don’t always experience the respect you deserve. The first character is Landry Bishop, early thirties, a guy from Nebraska who’s trying to bring some glitz and little wow-moments into people’s lives by giving them advice about design, clothing, food, and so on. He’s highly successful, living in an amazing house in Beverly Hills, running a blog, writing books, being invited to TV-shows. So successful, in fact, that he couldn’t be doing his stuff without the help of his perfect Personal Assistant Elaine. Problem is, Elaine is going back to Hawaii to care for her elderly parents, and Landry proves excessively demanding as to a new PA. That’s when he meets Elaine’s young in-law, dashing Jordan Stryker, for a job interview and hires him on the spot, despite the young man not having anything remotely qualifying in his resumé.

Landry soon finds out Jordan is eager to learn, eager to please, eager to make his life easy and to make him happy, no matter what. Sounds more like boyfriend-material than the stuff mere PAs are made of? Sure does, and Landry discovers he does have feelings for the young man, which turns out reciprocal. Nonetheless, when Jordan tries to seduce him during a business-and-pleasure trip to Vegas, he backs off immediately. He doesn’t feel ready—he’s a widower after all (his late husband, a successful L.A. lawyer, has died in a car accident some years before) and doesn’t think he can seriously consider a boss-employee relationship “with benefits”. But… the chemistry just feels so right. And Jordan is a helluva sweetly persuasive and stubborn guy, in addition to being handsome and as hot as the Vegas sun at noon…

When I started to read the book, I was a bit afraid I’d be plunged into a universe of stars and glitter with people feeling fake, but not at all. Here were people I could relate to, people taken from real-life with real-life questions (and answers). I was also afraid Landry would turn out an arrogant prick poor Jordan would need to work till the end so that we could have our deserved HEA. That was not the case either. Landry does have his snotty “Lord Thistlebottom”-moments, but he always realizes when that happens and either apologizes or takes the edge off his remarks. Basically, he’s remained the gentle, hard-working little boy from Nebraska who’s been thrown by his late Pygmalion-like lawyer husband into the world of stars and fame and money. He can be aloof, but never big-headed, always ready to explain, to help, to talk. Jordan on the other hand is exactly what he needs (without knowing it at first): centred, warm-hearted, spontaneous, lively, questioning, challenging, and very caring for others. The book doesn’t have any angst-moments, any emotional explosions. It’s a nice slow-burner that shows genuine feelings and character development. As a boy coming from a rural backwater in the Austrian Alps, I do know where Landry’s coming from—Jeez, yes, do I know! And I totally can see what’s going on inside when he does return to his little Nebraska hometown at one moment: the apprehensions, the fluttering feelings, and finally… the relief to realize things have changed for the better.

This is what I’d call a truly amazing feel-good book. Romance—perfect. Characters—endearing and able to learn and change. Plot—nicely paced, with some little surprises. If you feel down and out after a day at your job, pour yourself a nice glass of wine, sit down on your favourite armchair, and read this.

I won a copy of this book.

Landry is one of Hollywood's finest food and fashion gurus. But since the death of his husband, he has been floundering and now his personal assistant is retiring, he really needs to get on top of his game. But Jordan isn't like anyone he has worked with before. The man has the fashion sense of a horse, and hasn't worked as a PA before. Jordan does though, have many other skills that Landry needs. Is Jordan just the man to find the REAL Landry Bishop, not the made up one?

I loved this book!

It's such a well written story about a man's path to finding himself again, after being such a manufactured image for so long.

I have just one negative comment, and it's not really a negative BAD thing, more a case of my being greedy with my books, and I make no apologises for being so!

Only Landry has a voice here. I wanted, no, I NEEDED to hear from Jordan, and we don't. This is the only reason I can't stretch to 5 stars, because I don't get Jordan. Had he had a voice, I have no doubt none at all, that this would have been a 5 star read.

Landry's self doubt is evident at the beginning, and continues to grow as Jordan begins to work for him. It develops as the book progresses and it was very well done, the way it blooms through the book.

Landry and Jordan's relationship blossoms and grows at an even rate, and it was great watching Landry fall for Jordan, even as he argued with himself that he shouldn't.

It's not overly dramatic, nor is it explicit, but it is sexy and there is a lot of emotion pouring out of Landry through out the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, bar for the fact that Jordan isn't given a voice, and for that reason only. . .

4 stars

Landry Bishop is a small town boy, but he felt like an outsider living in Peril, Nebraska. Instead, he made his way to CA and met his late-husband who helped him create "Landry Bishop" the brand. Landry doesn't want to be "on" all the time though, he just wants to cram McDonald's down his throat and watch TV in his sweats, like "normal" people.

His PA has decided that her parents need her more than he does and needs to help. She finds a new PA for him, in form of Jordan. Oooo weeee.. does Landry get more than he bargained for with him.

I loved Jordan and Landry together. They fit perfectly!

What I didn't like was Landry and his resistance to return home. It seemed kind of weird to me. Deleting emails and dodging phone calls, it didn't sit right with me since they were actually close and not distant.

Overall this was a cute, enjoyable read. I wouldn't have minded for it to be a little longer. :)

Sweet, sappy and over the top doesn't say enough. Memorable characters that honestly touched me. I love the Landry that we have now. Preconceived notions are all fine and dandy but the poor man became a slave to them. Jordan and Peril proved to be the perfect crackers for the nut Landry had become. Elaine was perfect for the old Landry but Jordan fits the new man best.

I requested and received an advanced copy to review.

Landry Bishop was always different than others in is home town of Peril, Nebraska, and he could not wait to get out of that too small town. Now he is the darling healthy lifestyle guru in Hollywood, CA. He's got regular guest TV appearances, he's impeccably dressed, and companies are clamoring to have him endorse their products. He manages all of this with is true 'Gal Friday', his Personal Assistant, Elaine. Elaine is the perfect PA—she's his chauffeur, errand person, sounding board, friend, confident, stylist, and knows all of Landry's guilty pleasures. Unfortunately, Elaine needs to tend to her parents who live in Hawaii, and has put in her notice. After realizing his Gal Friday is really leaving, Landry finally looks at a few of the people for the PA post. Of course, none suit him, and Elaine suggests her cousin, Jordan Stryker, as a possible match. Jordan is everything that Landry is not: easy-going and a relaxed dress code. There is a spark in Jordan, so this may work out yet. Though it will be very hard for Landry to let Jordan in on the secret—he feels as if he can't live up to all the hype, and feels trapped by what others want him to be and what they want him to do.

Jordan is there to be a sounding board and proves to be even better than Elaine in helping him with his true dream in life—to be happy once more with what he does—and to rediscover the little town of Peril, NE is still a place of wonder, surprises, and dreams.

I can relate to Landry in a few ways. I too have a healthy lifestyle, and when I'm stressed out, I go and do the opposite of what a healthy lifestyle would require—I get fast food. After the fast food, he feels as if he's a fake, and most of all, he hopes no one recognizes him on one of his binges.

Redesigning Landry Bishop is a second in Dreamspun Desires series, A Stars From Peril Novel. The first was A Spy's Love Song. The second in this series does not have the intrigue the first novel had, which is a very good thing. People are different, and so their adventures and dreams. Even if you're from a small town in the middle of plains states. This one deals with dreams lost, finding one's true self and desires, and finding the happiness that has always alluded to, but not quite realized. I enjoyed this novel—it was just the thing for a nice cool, cloudy day read, and the guilty pleasure in a well-written, bit fluffy story.

The set list that came to mind when reading Redesigning Landry Bishop may not seem to be congruous with the story, but let me explain. Only the Lonely by Roy Orbison, describes Landry after his husband died, when he loses hi PA, Elaine, and when he feels lonely and abandoned. I think We're Alone Now by Tommy James and the Shondells is two fold—his affair with the fast food he eats in secret, and his growing attachment to Jordan. The last one is literaly translated from Korean as 'A Poem for Little Things' (Boy with Luv) by BTS. What this is about, is enjoying the little things in life, and able to share and find the joy in those little things with another.

Getting involved with your boss is rarely a good idea, in or out of fiction. When this plot device is played in m/f romances, the power dynamic is so heavily weighted in the man’s favor, coercion and subjugation loom large in the reader’s mind. Most authors can’t or won’t combat how sleazy this unequal status makes any subsequent romantic entanglement.

But what makes the difference here is that Jordan Stryker isn’t your typical Gal Friday. He doesn’t have the requisite experience to be a personal assistant but he’s got tons of heart and experience taking care of disabled people in need of assistance. He genuinely cares about people, not just their physical well-being but their emotional mindset, too. As he often states, he likes to make people happy and he senses the dissatisfaction in his new boss, Landry Bishop that makes him want to try to help the famous fashionista.

Landry’s homosexuality hasn’t been much of a detriment in his life. Yes, he was bullied in his small hometown of Peril, Nebraska. But that teasing was minimal, offset by the unconditional support of his loved ones. His parents, his sister, her husband and his aunt support his sexual identity and his decision to leave Peril to give fashion tips and home décor advice to the rich and fabulous in Hollywood. He found himself a husband who loved, adored and supported him whom he loved in return. He’s led the happy life that most heterosexual men in his position take for granted although Landry is honest enough to realize just how blessed he is.

With two such centered characters in this romance, the gradual sexual and emotional heat felt quite natural. I found myself rooting for them and for Landry to accept Jordan’s honest offer of humping between the sheets and the spark he claims he felt the first time he saw Landry. Landry takes longer to feel the same way (thank goodness; love at first sight is cute enough but what’s wrong with a slow burn?) but he’s relieved to know Jordan’s desire is real and not the result of any misconceived coercion on Landry’s part.

This novel takes the trope of sleeping-with-the-boss and removes the sour, nausea-inducing aspects to produce a loving, affectionate pairing. It does end with the typical HEA but you believe the path that takes you there.

This is a feel good second-chance-at-life and finding love when one least expects it. Even told from one POV only - Landry’s voice - Fielding delivered wholesome story without being too elaborate and blatantly provocative about it.

Landry Bishop didn’t really feel fit in almost since he was born. From growing up surrounded by love (and nosy but protective family) to a relatively well-known and successful figure he felt unreal. The death of his husband and his long time assistant’s retiring amped up the feeling. Rescue not only came with his new assistant, Jordan, he reintroduced Landry to a new wonder of life and love. That’s about the gist of it.

REDESIGNING LANDRY BISHOP took up the love-in-a-workplace romance trope with flourish. Given the timeline and seemingly power imbalance between Landry and Jordan (employer and employee), the attraction and speed with which it cumulated didn’t feel rushed. It’s down to Fielding’s writing flair.

That said, Landry’s reluctance to face anything hometown-related which also count his only sibling and her family was heartbreaking. As fond as I am with this character, Landry also struck me as overly sensitive and made a mountain out of a molehill. On the other hand, this mark on Landry’s personality gave Jordan a way in, so I couldn’t stay mad long at Landry.

In short, this is the kind of story for reader who needs a lift-me-up, less angst, slightly steamy read. At least it worked for me.

I really loved Kim Fielding’s newest book! “Redesigning Landry Bishop” is a contemporary, feel-good MM romance with witty dialogue, a sweet storyline, and a HEA.
While reading, I immediately fell in love with the characters, especially Landry. I wanted to give that boy a vacation, a burger, and a huge hug (luckily, Jordan’s there to do that for me). I loved seeing how Jordan fit into Landry’s world, and more importantly, how Landry found himself again with Jordan’s help. Also, an honorable mention goes to Elaine, Landry’s old PA, because I absolutely loved her character and every interaction she had with Landry was pure gold. I burst out laughing multiple times while reading this book, mostly due to her antics.
Another thing I appreciated was how this book didn’t villainize Landry’s deceased husband, an unfortunate pattern I’ve noticed in books where the MC was previously married.
In all, this book was a charming, romantic, non-angsty read that is sure to put a smile on your face. There’s no contrived misunderstandings or cringeworthy moments. Instead, this book is full of laughs, banter, and “aww” moments. Not only do we see two heartfelt guys fall in love, we get to see Landry find himself once again, and it’s because of this that “Redesigning Landry Bishop” has officially joined my “rainy day pick-me-up” book pile. Definitely recommended!

Kim Fielding's Redesigning Landry Bishop is an entertaining slow burn romance.

When we meet Landry, he's mourning the loss of his husband. He's still working, as a Martha Stewart type celeb, and he's damn good at his job. But when he's not at work, he's mostly alone and living an empty life, still drowning in his grief. Upon meeting Jordan, he's unaware of the new path his life's about to take.

Jordan's younger, outgoing, and Landry can't resist hiring him to be his new PA, despite his lack of experience. Basically, Landry is a care-giver at heart and longs to take care of people.

The writing's well done, with plenty of humor sprinkled throughout. I seriously appreciated Landry's need to secretly unwind sometimes, as well as his need to do it privately. Written from Landry's POV, the reader's fully invested in Landry's thoughts and emotions. It worked well, but I would have enjoyed hearing Jordan's thought too. The only downside for me was that it took me a little bit to get fully invested in these two men. Once I did though, I was riveted.

Redesigning Landry Bishop is super sweet and a beautiful emotional read. It's perfect for when you're looking for an easy-going, happy book.

Kim Fielding has written some absolutely brilliant, beautiful books, so I was a bit disappointed with this one. It's not her best work and I heartily recommend almost any of her other works instead.

The key issue here for me was the pushiness of Jordan about sex with his employer (as I noted elsewhere, so out of touch with harrasment and #metoo sensibilities of today). It just is something we would never do in real life.

Meanwhile, the other half of this pairing is also pretty weak. He's supposed to be this older, accomplished person but if you need to be told what's meaningful at that stage in life, you've been pretty shallow.

I couldn't get invested in either character, and was put off by Jordan's behavior. I liked the fact that Fielding is exploring different issues than the constant tropes in MM, the themes seemed fresh and original, to some extent. I liked the fact that he's a confused older widower, and is taking stock. It's perhaps just a matter of execution that I found it didn't work as well I had hoped.

Still, even Kim Fielding's mediocre effort is relatively good against another MM author, so I was engaged enough to see what would happen, and wanted to see their story end.

I tend to have a bit of problem with Kim Fielding books. The blurbs always sound awesome and right up my alley, but with very few exceptions, they never quite manage to deliver.

This one is a prime example. I expected something a bit over the top, some drama, high emotions (it's Hollywood after all). But the story entirely lacks in exuberance and emotion. It's more a character study of Landry than a romance, and since Landry is very controlled and low-key so is the book.

The romance parts of the story are slow burn and pretty muted. I did not see any great passion or burning love, even though the HEA materializes after a pretty short time.
I guess for my taste and for the subject matter it was just too realistic. Landry is an sympathetic, well rounded character, and it was interesting to see him find out who exactly he wanted to be, but it felt rather expected and bland. I mean, Landry's greatest character flaw is apparently craving nostalgic meritocracy when he's stressed.
There is very little drama or angst or anything really. It needed a little more strife or a little more emotion to make it exciting.

Heather's Notes
This is a really cute story. I liked Jordan and Landry. There was no real angst or issue. Just a cute story about two people meeting and falling in love. It was just what I needed at this time and I liked it. I do not know if I will read more in this series or not, but I did enjoy this.

Landry Bishop is a fashion guru. Food, clothes, home decor he has the answer. He's lonely and in need of a new assistant.
Jordan Stryker is the new PA who seemlessly slides right into Landry's life and makes everything better.
This is a well written, very low keyed story. It keep my attention from start to finish because there were no errors to ponder; however, there was no angst. Jordan comes into Landry's life and next thing you know they're like a couple who's been together years. They have a great friend and employer/employee relationship but the romance is luke warm. There's no sexual tension and the sex scenes are lacking. I didn't feel like they had a sexual attraction as much as they had a need for companionship. I wished the part where they go to Landry's hometown was more fleshed out. I would have liked more time with Landry's family, which seemed like once he moved to California he basically left them behind with little thought. If you like simple companionship with low romance this is the book for you.

ARC received for an honest opinion.

A man can work really hard and achieve his dreams but… What if he loses himself in the process?
Landry Bishop worked very hard to become the man he wanted to be. He left his tiny home town and conquered the world… A very successful career is his prize, but he is not as happy as he is supposed to be. There is something missing in his life. Enter Jordan Stryker, young, open, straightforward, the new personal assistant Landry needed. And the only one who seems to be able to explain him what he is really missing: himself.
This is an extremely cute story, a low angst tale of a prince charming who, despite living in a gold palace (i.e. A Hollywood mansion), does not seem to have the key to happiness. Then, his new personal assistant shows him the way to happiness is finding the balance between his public persona, that he’s worked so hard to achieve, and the person behind the icon… An emotional family gathering, love and happiness soon ensue.
Although it lacks the depth of other of Kim’s stories, it is a very enjoyable story which will certainly put a sappy smile in your face

4.5 Stars!

I loved Jordan, he was absolutely delightful. So sweet and down-to-earth and just perfect for Landry. And even if I wasn't sure I was going to like Landry at first, he totally won me over. The chemistry between them was out of this world and the story ended up being steamier than I anticipated considering it's a Dreamspun title. Not that I'm complaining. ;)

The book was very low-angst and the relationship between Jordan and Landry developed at a very natural pace and it had the most amazing HEA, without being overly sweet, or perhaps just a little. LOL

I don't really want to say more than I adored Landry's old PA, Elaine, who was awesome and that if you're the mood for some fun fluff with substance and a lot of emotion, this is definitely the book for you. Super recommendable!
