Leo Daly is looking forward to a family vacation and a break from his hectic hospital schedule. His dreams of kicking back, fishing, and hanging out with the wife and kids turn into a fight for survival when an electromagnetic pulse takes out the power grid leaving them stranded in the woods. Leo must use all of his skills to create a community of survivors from his family, the locals, and ill-equipped vacationers.

M.P. McDonald makes a living from taking your breath away... then giving it back via a tube or two. She lives in a frozen land full of ice, snow, and abominable snowmen. On the days that she's not taking her car ice-skating, she sits huddled over a chilly computer, tapping out the story of a camera that can see the future. She hopes it can see summer approaching, too.

This short story was also published in the anthology The Will to Survive: A Charity Anthology for Hurricane Relief, which is where I read it.

The story follows a family who are on their way to their vacation lake home when an EMP event occurs.. Very realistic, without much of the excessive drama that follows many EMP event stories. In this story the families that live around the lake are very sensible, coming together to help each other, with everyone pitching and sharing.
