This was just as good as her more recent series tbh 😮💨👏🏽 I’m just so shook by Jahquel’s pen. Like she’s really been on this wave ya know. And the fact that this still had a crazy ass cliffhanger at the end is wild 😭 Will def be continuing on w this series
Staten Island Love Letter had me locked in from the very beginning. Jahquel J wastes no time pulling you into a story that feels gritty, emotional, and real. From the setup alone, you can tell this is not going to be a soft love story. It is layered with history, tension, and choices that come with real consequences. I was immediately invested in how everything unfolded and how the past kept colliding with the present.
What really stood out to me was how interconnected the storylines were. Nothing felt random. Every character had a purpose and every relationship added depth to the overall plot. I loved seeing growth where it mattered, especially when it came to self preservation and making hard decisions. The family dynamics added another layer that made the story feel full and lived in, even when certain characters tested my patience every single time they popped up.
The pacing was perfect and the tension stayed high the entire time. Just when you think you know where things are going, Jahquel J reminds you that anything can happen. And that ending? Absolutely wild. The kind that leaves you staring at the page before immediately grabbing the next book. If you enjoy urban romance with emotion, connection, and moments that make you feel everything at once, this one is worth the read.
I so love this book story line you instantly fall in love with the characters and then you have the ones you can not stand.. i love the the way its playing out so far you get to see how they have grown how they mind set was from teenager dealing with young love and figuring out life and to make decisions for themselves to grown adults with a different mind set handling life and dealing with the decision that they made...I hope summer and staten make it I really like Staten personality I and I pray and hope that Justice pulls through she's a good woman who end up with a coward I wanna bet his ass then I kind of wanna slap her for going back she better leave his for good all he got was in amputated leg and she in a coma I hope Priest light his ass up... I feel Ghost and Priest about to let Staten Island feel pain and blood about to be shed and I'm wit🤪🙆♀️🤷♀️ I 💜🧡💙💛💚❤ your books Jah🤩😘
I’m not even sure what to say with the cliffhanger we’re left on in this book. I’m not new to this author’s page-turners but I’m slowly making my way through her backlist and this did not disappoint! Wow!
The prologue featuring Freedom and Liberty and the decisions they make about Ghost and Pook should have prepared me for the dramatic set up of this book and the complexity of the decisions that Freedom and her youngest sister, Justice, make about their relationships.
As with a lot of this author’s work, the protagonists are often complex, morally-grey (at best) characters who you’ll often disagree with and yell at but who are still extremely compelling! The introduction of Zeek and Zo as love interests and villains and their role in what happens with the cliffhanger sent me and means that having stayed up all night reading this, I’m not about to go to bed but will be starting book 2.
Omggg that’s all the words i have to say. I don’t know why i never read this, but i have sooo many questions…. I know Ghost about to let loose on Staten Island. I know his airhead fiancé about to get the wake up call she deserves
This book did not disappoint at all, that cliffhanger at the end though 🤯 why am I even shocked? after all this is Jahquel I’m talking about. Ms. Author lady is known for her cliffhangers 🤣🤣
Jesusssssssssss take the wheel that ending wasn't expected but oh so good. I just know Jahquel not going to do that baby like that and just let her die. Mannnnnn I know this got Zeek, Zoe, and Zee name all over it because it probably been a set up since the beginning. I'm waiting on when Ghost confronts Free about the twins since Staten done spilled the beans I can't wait to see how that turns out. I just know it's about to be a lot of secrets revealed and I'm so ready for the drama, and that darn Kiss make me want to whoop her a$$. Part 2 ASAP
It was a good start, I just hate when the women are weak and bitter. Like how can Justice point out every bad thing in her relationship and still stay. “Yeah he’s physically, mentally and verbally abusive, yeah I pay all the bills, but I love him.” Justice , shut yo slow azz up! lol. Then how can Freedom blatantly lie. How can she look at Ghost and her kids and not feel bad for what she’s doing. It’s very selfish to leave your kids fatherless because you in your raggedy feelings. Freedom needs to grow up, it’s not about her pathetic feels. It’s about her kids experiencing having both parents. Usually I DNF quick. I was really annoyed when he asked her again and she said their father was dead. Like how selfish can you be. I really hope they don’t end up together at the end of the series because it’s a sign of a trash woman. A man surely don’t deserve a selfish person like that. Freedom contradicted her feelings. When Ghost asked her about her feelings she was quick to say it’s the past. It was 10 years ago, and she over it and moved on and blah blah blah. Ma’am if that’s so, why aren’t you telling him he has other kids by you if you so over it. Then he didn’t intentionally hurt her. She did what she did because she was in her head and her sisters were in her head. Ain’t no way I would’ve watched my rich baby daddy be a father to kids that’s possibly not his when I got his biological kids who crave having their father in their life. It just made no sense. Let’s see if I can get through book 2. I almost skipped to book 2. I’m trying to start from the beginning to get to the Infernos book. But come on, a book can be decent with a strong women. Like if Justice was fighting Todd ass back. It would’ve been just as good.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The story started off good, but once we got to the ten years I was over it. I kept reading because I was wondering where the women were.
Ghost talked all that stuff about shakira, but he stayed, like that didnt make no type of sense. How was he any better? She wasnt a good mother, she didnt work, she didnt take care of the house, and she was super disrespectful to yo momma and sister. He still gave her money anytime she asked for it, and they never had sex. Why was he with her again? Then to say u propose to her because of her parents, like I didnt understand that. Ghost was suppose to be this big man in the streets, but he was a bi@t in his personal life.
Then this priest dude got on my nerve soooo bad. Dude u ain't the first person to have to raise kids. Y lead Marisol on, when he saw her catching feelings he should have left her alone. His chapters was repetitive just like ghosts chapters.
This story was already starting to work my nerve with all the repetition, these characters repeated the same stuff over and over..but when it got to Free's chapter and she started talking abt hiding babies, i stopped reading right there. I wont finish this series now. Like what did this man do to you that got u hiding babies for 10 years? I hate when the authors make their characters do that like why make the kids suffer? So now I dont like her character anymore. She decided to run drugs and money, it wasn't like he was beating her and making her do it.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Jah! Jah! WTH? Girl, you do not miss! I can't believe I slept of this book so long. I kept picking it up and putting it down. Shiiiiiiit. The way I just ate up these pages. This book was fire and in true Jah form, we got a cliffhanger.
There's a lot going on in this book. Multiple names and storylines happening at the same time. On the male side we got Ghost, Staten and Priest. They are drug kings in Staten Island. Pushing everything. Ghost and Staten are brothers. Ghost engaged to a WW who is ugh. Priest raising his 3 teen nieces, one of whom is pregnant. Staten is a f boy and also fucking his bf, Chanel and they trying to have a kid.
On the female side we have Freedom, Liberty, and Justice. They are sisters. Freedom used to date Ghost but left him abruptly 10 years ago. She just moved back to SI and is keeping a big secret from him. Justice teaches one of Priest's neices. She is also in an abusive relationship. Liberty is a nurse at the hospital.
The SI dudes are beefing with some Brooklyn dudes who trying to move on their area and their women. Shit hits the fan. Somebody gets pistol whipped, somebody else gets shot up in a drive-by. We also have a major car accident that leaves someone in a coma, and multiple instances of domestic violence.
Welcome to the forgotten borough of Staten Island.
This series introduces readers to the Davis family. Ghost, along with his brother Staten and friend Priest, have built an empire that is both legal and illegal. Each one has a story that often intermingles with the other when it comes to family.
Ghost is engaged to a selfish woman, who would rather spend his money than spend time with her children. Meanwhile, his first love has returned to the Burroughs after 10 years and his old feelings are beginning to resurface.
Staten is too busy chasing money to commit to one woman, but he is stringing someone along. When tragedy strikes his family, he begins to lean on someone else.
Priest has charged with raising his three nieces, after his sister transitioned. This may be his most challenging test yet. To make things worse, he is falling for one woman while playing with the heart of another.
This book reeled me in from the very beginning. The twists and turns will leave you speechless. My favorite character is Staten, because he was literally there for everyone. My least favorite character will always be Shakira. You’ll have to read the book to find out why. I’ve been hearing about @jahquel_ and her catalog for years. I’m glad I finally took a chance and delved into this series, and the bonus is having a book buddy read along with me.
I need to process this before I can post a review because I have so much thoughts and feelings right now.
What. The. Hell.
So much wild stuff went down in this book…I needed time to process before I could even think about writing a review. Everyone has issues, everyone is messy, and yet… I could not stop listening. It was so good.
Usually, when there are multiple couples and storylines going on in one book, things get confusing fast. You end up trying to remember who’s who and lose track of the drama. But not with this one. There are three couples and three separate but intertwined stories, and I never once felt lost. Every character was distinct, every relationship dynamic was clear, and it was drama from start to finish.
Secrets, schemes, betrayal, chaos, nobody in this book was normal. Every chapter brought another twist, and just when I thought things couldn’t get crazier, they did. And yet, it all worked. I devoured Book 1 in one sitting, instantly jumped into Book 2, and also finished that in one sitting. Had my AirPods not died, I would’ve been deep into Book 3 by now. I’m hooked.
This series is messy, addictive, and everything you want in a chaotic urban romance.
We explore a gripping tale of love, loyalty, and the choices that define us. Nineteen-year-old Freedom McGurrry loves Ghost deeply, risking everything for their bond. However, a life-changing event in 2009 leaves Ghost searching for answers as Freedom disappears.
Her twin sister Liberty experiences her own heartbreak when she learns that Pook, the man she loves, has a child with another woman. This revelation forces her to re-evaluate her dreams and self-worth.
Parallel to their stories, Priest, a college student, becomes the reluctant guardian of his deceased sister’s three daughters. When he meets Justice McGurry, Freedom and Liberty’s younger sister, their brief encounter hints at deeper connections.
Fast forward ten years, and Ghost has risen to power in Staten Island, but with success comes responsibility. The intertwined lives of these characters highlight the impact of love and loyalty, showcasing the complexities of human relationships.
It is a powerful exploration of how love can uplift and challenge us. I highly recommend this book—it’s a captivating journey that will stay with you long after the last page.

This is a hot series already! Free and Ghost started out very young and she would do anything for him! When she almost lost her Freedom, she decided it was time to leave New York and begin life anew in another state. Little dud they know a secret surfaces very early in in her move and she's now back and scared yo share. Justice once confident is now in an abusive situation with Todd but will being reunited to Priest save her? Will she finally be set free of the torment? Liberty so in love with Pook she was willing to ride out his jail sentence with him until the day he's sentenced to 10 years, she finds out he's been playing her all along! Ghost, Staten and Priest have their own issues going on, Priest raising 3 nieces and the oldest Kiss is out of control! Shakira, the fiance to Ghost is conniving and sneaky, Chanel Staten's best friend is definitely up to something. Tragedy strikes at the end of this novel. What's next? Reading the next book in this amazing Series to see! Jahquel J. already bringing it with this book!
Secrets and not so secrets are fallig out these closets.

Ghost, Ghost, Ghost, his brother and daughter has been harmed by the enemy. His fiance is known in these streets and he is pining after Free.
First off...thank you for bringing the forgotten borough to light. Grew up on Long Island my entire life and been to Staten Island 4 times. Makes me want to take a trip just to ride around. Ok so I fought Shakira about 100 times. At one point I put the book down saying I was done reading ( it lasted about 5 minutes) this book because this thot was on my last nerve. Her payday is coming. Staten has me cracking up, we all need a friend like him. Priest, he will be blessed because some sperm donors would never think about giving up their dreams to raise 3 girls. Ghost reminded me of Ghost from Power. That’s who he looks like in my head. Free, Jus and Liberty are my sisters from another mister. Please don’t leave us hanging for too long. I feel like I’m holding my breath for the next book. Sheesh!
Once again, Fatima’s always choose a good series to discuss for her readers group. The drama is starting. The characters are wilding, emotional and dramatic. Jahquel J does a good job.
Hopefully, Justice will getting herself together and leave Todd alone because he’s a bad news and selfish person. My heart goes to those beautiful Ghost’s kids and Staten. Ghost needs to keep his eyes and ears open to Shakria. She’s a needy, unreasonable and unstable person. However, Ghost should confront Free about their twins.
So far, I enjoyed reading A Staten Island Love Letter: The Forgottwn Borough because it’s a emotional and interesting story. I can’t wait to read part two.
Good read: Drama is starting!!!!!🙄😳👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Sandra A
Free loved her some Ghost. Liberty her twin loved Pook and Baby sister Justice had a crush on Priest. Free finds a way to leave Ghost and Liberty finds out as Pook gets sentenced there is another Mrs with a baby on the way. Ghost and Staten are brothers and they are looking to be millionaires one day. Priest the brother from another mother is suddenly gifted with his 3 nieces and relationships are a no no although he in the past had a. Rush on Justice. 10yrs past and everyone is a like older wi secrets that are slowly spilling out, people from the past are being released from jail and everything that glitters is not gold. When tragedy hits Justice and now Ghost, their lives are getting ready to meet Pain and hopefully they get through it together but Staten called Ghost when he saw Free’s twins. It’s on in more ways than one in Part 2!!!!!
My introduction to Jahquel J. as an author started with Capone, so going back in her catalog is long overdue. THIS BOOK DID NOT DISAPOINT. She does a great job of world building in this book, getting meaningful character development going, and establishing these characters baseline. Being familiar with her writing style, I knew that this book would establish a foundation and leave me on a cliffhanger, which is exactly what she did! But the cliffhanger that she chose - WHY MA’AM?! Why must you choose violence?! At 260+ pages, it was a perfect read when you have a couple hours to spare.
My only critique it I wish there was more in the “10 years before” chapters. Having a little more foundation there would have been helpful to help justify the FMC disappearing for 10 years. The early chapters were just a TIIINYYYY bit rushed.
This feels like it’s just the beginning of a dope new series filled with emotional drama. Gyson and Free have made their way back to each other but how will the twins factor into how he deals with her? Will Staten and Summer survive? I don’t like Shakira either. I hope she is left in the dust. I like Chanel and Staten’s friendship but I wonder if they can fully transition into being a real couple or parents. Priest is such a good guy. They way he is with his nieces and the affection he’s shown Justice is admirable. I feel sorry for Marisol but who wants a complacent low aspiring woman ? Liberty was taken by surprise when Pook did her dirty in Court but is it more to their story?
