5 Stars on a re-read.

Yes! Still the best!

Read this in Big Duke Energy.

I have been waiting for Sebastian's story since The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo, a smooth-talking pirate Earl? Hell, yes! Now, generally, I launch into detailed reviews highlighting every aspect of the story, but since I loved everything about this brilliant novella, I am going to list things that stood out the best.

I Loved this book because...
- Kerrigan Byrne. She rarely disappoints.
- Great writing & great characterizations.
- A story on a train, never read that in HR, unique.
- Very "Murder on the Orient Express" feel.
- An on the fringe, outsider, Victorian Rebel, ummmm, delicious.
- A very decisive, saucy heroine who harbours wicked fantasies, right on.
- Hero named Sebastian willing to indulge and improve upon those fantasies, you had me there, enough said.
- Excellent, jibing banter.
- Toe-curling steam. And one of the best orgasm descriptions, ever.
- A decadently delightful proposal, oh my!

*And a personal favourite was the DDLJ (bollywood) movie final train scene vibe!! The Indians will get this reference.

Oh, God, yes, and more, Sebastian please!

It was ok. While I liked the story it was extremely short and lacked in depth. I miss the old Kerrigan Byrne that made me feel so many things while reading her books.
I'm pretty disappointed in this one, I have waited their story for so long only to receive a shot glimpse of their love.

There were so much layers to both characters that they feel wasted in such a short novela.

I don't want to come as a hater, cuz I'm not, but I'm indeed disappointed.

Hopefully I'll be able to read another Kerrigan Byrne book that can me fall in love, cry, hate and feel 1000 things at the time.

(From the Big Duke Energy anthology)

Finally, Sebastian Moncrieff’s story! Moncrieff gets the only woman who has ever touched his heart (yes, our cocky, sexy AF pirate libertine does have a heart!) and Veronica gets the HEA she so richly deserves ❤️

Between her trembling thighs, he felt like a god. And soon, he’d convert her to belief. Not in the divine, but in him. I’ll worship your body, my lady, he thought. But you’ll be praying to me before I’m through.

Now that’s my kinda train ride 😍🔥

I wish this could have been a full-length novel; I liked the glimpse of Sebastian’s backstory but wanted more, more of Sebastian and Veronica together, more of everything…

He searched his empty mind for something to say until her eyes locked with his. The need to speak died as something so tender and profound passed between them, he dared not profane it with words.

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

TOO SHORT!!! I have been waiting for Sebastian's story for a long time and it was way too short! Sebastian Moncrieff is The Erstwhile Earl of Crosthwaite who neglected to return from the fighting in India. It seems that he was more suited for pirating than Parliament. After kidnapping the Rook's wife, I'm surprised he's even alive. But not only is he alive he has escaped the hangman's noose and is now on a mission to kill the men responsible for the Shanghai Connection, a nasty group of human traffickers.

Sebastian Moncrieff is on a train and ready to kill a man when comes face to face with Veronica Weatherstoke, the one woman he knows he wronged nearly a year ago. Sebastian is not a man given to regrets but he just can't deny that he feels things for her he has never felt for any other woman. His only wish is to give her pleasure, but she tells him she wants nothing to do with him, but her body is telling him something quite different.

This is a novella and is part of the Big Duke Energy anthology.

I cannot seem to remember who Sebastian is (or maybe I haven’t encountered him yet?) 🤔🤔🤔 Either way, very exciting, but I’m still hoping for Callum and Allison’s story 😍

Kerrigan Byrne's Victorian Rebels are a favorite and The Earl on the Train is a spin-off novella from that series. The last we saw of Sebastian Montcrief was in book six and his behavior was not at all conducive to getting his own happy ever after, let alone his own story. Yet, this is Byrne's specialty and unsurprisingly, she was able to turn the tables from the contentious situation this couple had in book six to an actual romance. It helped that we'd already seen this couple in an intimately precarious situation. It turns out that Sebastian Moncrieff had a conscience buried deep within himself and Veronica had the key to open it up and let it out. Like its predecessors, I love a romantic antihero romance and Byrne kicked it up a notch with one of the most wicked. Too short, but still fun.

Veronica couldn’t say which of them had made the first move or the response to it. Their mouths simply met.
   Melded.
And the rest of them seemed to follow. Their torsos, hips, legs…
   Hearts.

After reading the previous book in the series, The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo, I was looking forward to this story. Unfortunately, I found it pretty disappointing. I was hoping for explanations, atonement and redemption. Instead, I got endless inner musings again (which is hardly surprising, given that it's a Byrne book), as well as a lot of sex. After Moncrieff's questionable behavior in the past, that just wasn't enough. I mean … Veronica comes from an abusive marriage, yet two orgasms are enough to convince her to marry again? This dubious pirate who abducted her sister-in-law and betrayed his captain? Sorry, but that's pretty unconvincing, even for a novella.

Novellas are their own category and I rate them as such. I can't compare the content of a novella to a full-length novel for obvious reasons. So, with that disclaimer in mind, this is a 4-star novella read.

Sebastian and Veronica were introduced in book 6 of the Victorian Rebels series. They both had strong personalities and a bunch of sexual chemistry.

Fast forward to a year later, and Sebastian and Veronica are reunited on a train. There's a bit of action, a decent amount of naughty-times and some heartfelt confessions interwoven throughout this well-written novella.

I recommend this if you're looking for a fast-paced, historical romance novella filled with naughty bits.

Read this back in March 2022 when it was released
in the anthology, Big Duke Energy. The Earl on the Train is the novella I was looking forward to the most in the anthology as it is part of the Victorian Rebels series (my fav KB series). This is the long-awaited romance between Sebastian Moncrieff, former pirate, and Veronica Weatherstroke, a widowed Countess. Sebastian and Veronica’s romance was first hinted at in The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo (Victorian Rebels book 6). This novella takes place after the events that went down in that book. Sebastian boards a train where he plans to kill a man on-board but ends up running into Veronica, who is chaperone to said man’s daughter. This was a very quick romp on the train novella, but I do wish we got more with this couple.

This is my 18th book by Kerrigan Byrne. Although these are Victorian (I prefer Regency) I can't help not liking her books.

I love her writing, her stories and she writes such great sex scenes.

I really enjoyed this book. Although I didn't remember the story that happened previously that they spoke about it didn't deter from the writing. Her books are so yummy.

It was an anthology, Big Duke Energy with THE WOLF OF WESTMORE by Amalie Howard; PUT UP YOUR DUKES by Janna MacGregor; DUKE OF EVERY SIN by Stacy Reid and LOST AND FOUND by Christi Caldwell.

Not super excited about this hero, as I remember him from The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo. He came across as a total douche to the heroine in that book and her friend, and there were a few scenes featuring him in the book that I particularly hated.

But I do like the author, so will wait, read and see.

5 Long-Train-Runnin’ Stars
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well, we’ve been waiting for Sebastian’s story for a long ass time, and once again Kerrigan Byrne didn’t disappoint! This was a perfect way to end this series, the length was just right because they already knew each other, so a full length book might have gotten a little boring imo.

I highly recommend this entire series, it’s been a favorite of mine since I first read it a few years ago.

A++! 💕

Random charity book sale find!

Honestly, I just wanted some more romance and I loved the cover. I also liked that it was a shorter book (because this girl is BEHIND on her reading goal... Shorter books aren't cheating, I promise!).

So, I loved this. New author found for me, so Kerrigan Byrne... Gimme all the books in this series ASAP. Okay?

Sexy. Historical Romance. Fast paced.

It was a chef's kiss from me. I liked the writing style a lot and it was a great read to get my mind off of being an adult.

Four out of five stars.

I love how Kerrigan Byrne writes historical romance. This book was number 8 in the Victorian Rebels series and I felt like I waited for it forever!

I gave it a 4⭐️ rating as it was a lot shorter than I had hoped it would be and I needed more Sebastian. Sebastian is notorious, he’s a pirate and a violent man but he’s also an Earl and charming and protects those who are unable to fend for themselves. Veronica is his weakness but after he kidnapped her, she can’t possibly allow any strange feelings of desire towards him. Sebastian sets out to win his lady and show her what he has to offer.
Featuring a murder plot, an escape from an arranged marriage and some steamy scenes aboard a train, this story delivers as all Kerrigan Byrne books do. I just needed another 100 or so pages.

I love Byrne’s books. With this title I felt that the sultry ravishment scenes rather outweighed the story. Or was this the story? There’s obviously a charged history between the two main characters. Did I miss the full story in previous titles in the series? Not quite the Victorian noir I’ve come to look forward too, but as a lover of the series I couldn’t not read it. The sparks really do fly (more like the blaze of a wildfire) between Sebastian Moncrieff and Veronica Weatherstoke.

This is NOT a pirate story. Misleading tags 😤👊

The Earl is a former "pirate" but really he's a standard gentlemanly rake. there is no seafaring, and the story is circled around late night dalliances on a train.

Howeverrr, the dalliances are excellent 🤌 bravo 👏

I LOVE this entire series and am so thrilled about this book - Sebastian and Veronica are at last finding love and hope after difficult lives. It's a short read, but plenty of goodness. If you have not read the other books in the series before, you may not know the background to this point and be confused a bit.
Sebastian is a pirate turned Earl.
Veronica is a fashion designer recovering from an abusive marriage. She has never had pleasure and does not know what an orgasm is - until she meets him and watches him pleasure a woman. ( See the Previous book ) They come face to face on a train when he is on a mission to destroy a man who abuses his wife and daughter. The chemistry is so sexy just as with the other books in this series - slow burn but well worth it. Kind of like sweet torture...
This book has -
~ A dangerous pirate turned earl
~ A secret plan to save abuse victims
~ Sexy moments on a train
~ Erotic guide to orgasms

Enjoyed their rivalry and their chemistry but constant mentions of his past sexual adventures up to a point where there was a scene from a previous book where he feasted on a prostitute and slept with her twice while imagining the heroine, was absolutely distasteful for me. Hero is just STD-infested all around!

Either way, I do wish the story would expand more on their relationship. Although it has been stated that this book is a novella, I do feel that the ending was cut rather short with a hasty proposal.

I really liked this a lot, have loved Sebastian since he was first introduced but I do wish there had been an epilogue for when they get married since Ash and Lorelei’s epilogue ended with her running to Veronica on her wedding day, it would have been nice to ‘see’ that day.

THE WAY THAT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR YEARS!!! THIS IS MY JOKER

Okay so now that I’ve read it - “we live in a society” jk but still I loved this. It was short and sweet and reminiscent of the same fiery energy that made me obsess over the Victorian Rebels series to begin with. I took off one star just because I would have died for an epilogue. I think the length of this really worked as we had so much of the necessary background already. It kept the story short and sweet.

I was always intrigued by Sebastian - and his energy with Veronica. I thought I’d have to content myself with knowing he ended up with Veronica somehow based on the epilogue of The Duke With the Dragon Tattoo but this is so wonderful.

Trigger warnings: abusive relationship, domestic violence, miscarriage (in the past), infertility, classism

3.5 stars

I had mixed feelings about this because the dynamic between the two leads in the previous book in the series was.........yeah. Something. I also felt a little mixed about this one purely because it's a novella and so it couldn't quite flesh out the story the way I wanted it to be fleshed out. The entire thing basically takes place in the course of one train journey, and while I liked the romance that develops between them, I did feel like it was a liiiiiiiittle rushed for both of them to overcome their issues around sex and relationships in the space of, like, 24 hours. But whatever.

Also, having read like 8 Kerrigan Byrne books in the past week, it has become VERY apparent that she *loves* mentioning certain things in all her sex scenes, and one of those things is wombs. Wombs being filled. Wombs being empty. Wombs having feelings that wombs can't have because wombs don't have emotions. Also, maybe don't mentions wombs so much in your sex scenes??? Just a thought. (The word "ruffles" also comes up a lot in relation to female anatomy and NO THANK YOU)

I purchased this in an anthology called BIG DUKE ENERGY!

The two main character's were part of a series by this author. It was more enjoyable to me since I've read it, but it can be a stand alone. As with most series, you have background to why they act as they do, and some of that is missing.

This is not for the faint of heart in descriptions of lovemaking - 5 out of 5 (near erotic) and crude words used many times. I did not score on that only on the story.

Since these two have background they hit the ground running as far as their good/bad feelings for each other. The h is a widow but not really experienced with what could go on behind closed doors. The H on the other hand is very experienced.

One nasty villain and there was a twist on what happened to him. No cheating, HEA, little on romance and bedroom door WIDE opened. (ljb)

Well, let me start off by saying I am so bummed this was a novella!!! I've waited for this book ever since I read Ash and Lorelei's story!!! And then all I got was a novella! A good one but a novella nonetheless. And one where I didn't even get to see Veronica tell Sebastian she loved him too. Does this mean we may get another novella with these two? Because we should! This book was not long enough.

It was sexy as many of Kerrigan Byrne's stories are and the wit of Sebastian was absolutely delightful. I just wish we'd gotten a full length story for them. Kind of like Nicky and Julianna from Judith McNaught. I was robbed of a full length story there too.

Overall, an entertaining story, a bit anticlimactic, probably because it was so short. But enjoyable nonetheless. Just would it have hurt to add an epilogue??
