I wasn't sure what to expect at the end of Green Fields book 9. Bree and Nate turned their backs on everyone and put themselves first living two year in the southeast US. Tired of rallying battle cries and solving the apocalypse problems, they are taking the easy road for once.
OR ARE THEY.
PLOT TWIST..
You never really leave the military right? Nate certainly doesn't. Secrets and deception is his second nature. Bree, loving him dearly, doesn't spot the deception until they are kidnapped by a well militarized force and taken to a camp. Of course, Lecter ensures that Bree's character is once again underestimated and allows her escape into none other than Red, Cole and Hill, her secret mission teammates.
As Bree races against time to save her husband, Nate's character evolves into one we haven't yet seen. For many books in this series, he has hidden behind his figurehead of a wife. Trying to avoid being noticed, until he no longer can. Lecter takes us back to the gory, glory days of Gladiators as Nate fights the system to survive until Bree can save him. Upon her return, Nate is unrecognizable and salivating for revenge.
Lecter just takes things a step further... I was truly thinking after Book 9 that Lecter would have a hard time bringing this group back to life. Nate and Bree have been through the ringer. What was left? Well, Lecter had a whole lot still up her sleeve apparently! I've read my fair share of zombie novels, but none that continue to unravel in such a way that it keeps me guessing what's next. Knowing there are two books left in this series definitely keeps me one clicking.
