Now with book club discussion questions
Rosemary Reeve is an attorney who began her career in Seattle. She wrote the Jack Hart mysteries to entertain her mom, mailing home a chapter each week for feedback and critique. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and lives in Salt Lake City. She is also a recipient of the Ball Home Canning Award and a blue-ribbon winner at the Utah State Fair for canned tomatoes, peaches, and pears. It all made sense at the time.
The Jack Hart Mysteries are legal page-turners set in the 1990s Northwest:
All Good Things No Good Deed Only the Good Dead Weight
I read the audiobook and the narration is fantastic. This book is such a good read. Lots of action and good dialogue. Twisty plot. Loved Jacks’ dog, Betsy. The characters were interesting. Could not put it down even though I was cooking Thanksgiving dinner, and the cherry on top is that there is a Thanksgiving dinner in the book. I plan on reading the other three books in the series but this book is not in my local library, so I will have to request them. I want to read her book about tomatoes also.

All Good Things: A Jack Hart Mystery is a mystery crime fiction by Rosemary Reeve. The story is narrated by Jack Hart, the lead male character. The story revolves around the question of where Harmony Piper was. The disappearance of Harmony Piper revolves around a lot of suspense and such controversy that Jack Hart should resolve. Harmony Piper, the person of interest of the story and of the narrator, was introduced as such a lovely woman, had high work ethics, and an influential person as the granddaughter of the firm's founder. It is just sad that she was lost for no reason- at first.
I must agree that All Good Things is a well-written book. Though it is obviously a crime story, the book is written that the readers are charmed to continue knowing what is to come. The book lives up to its promise of suspense. It consists of several twists and turns, leading the readers to speculate who the murderer is. Each lead that the narrator is logical and believable and a sure-fire that readers will have to change their theories and speculations of the crime that happened. The book has a good plot through its strong world-building of unfolding and resolving the crime.
One good reason why this book is such a suspenseful lovely read is Jack Hart himself. It made me imagine Matt Murdock of Daredevil, for he is a smart and charming lawyer. I believe that he is a reliable narrator. He exudes charm without knowing it. He possesses goodness in him, his thoughts about his brother Jimmy would attest to his kind of character. His love for Harmony Piper is seen through his actions though he did not deliberately utter his feelings to her, which adds to his unbiased purpose of solving the crime.
It is noteworthy as well to mention Mark, Jack's best friend. I like the dynamics of their friendship/partnership, and I want to read more of Mark in the succeeding books in the series. Their friendship is a manifestation of success, in which the author introduced both characters' struggles in their early lives. Aside from his commendable importance in the book, there is no doubt that he is a likable character though at first, I was suspicious of him because of his ability to impersonate voices.
One thing I look forward to in this book is more courtroom drama. I sense that Jack will be brilliant, knowing he is a great writer as well. Overall I rate this book as 4 out of 4. I promise you will love how everything is in place in the end. I would like to recommend this book to In Death Series Readers by J.D. Robb /Nora Roberts and to all readers who love clean characters and are passionate about their work.
I've just finished the last book in this series and highly recommend all four. Just when you think you've figured out who's behind whatever the issue, Jack goes down the proverbial rabbit hole, every time, and you're on for the ride. I read a lot and try to get some exercise in but these books glued me to my chair. Enjoy!!!
READERS FAVORITE REVIEW FOR ALL GOOD THINGS by Rosemary Reeve
All Good Things written by Rosemary Reeve is the first book in the Jack Hart series. Jack is an associate at a large and prestigious law firm in Seattle. Jack is familiar with the view from the 42nd floor, as along with the other associates he works a twenty-hour day. He lives alone except for his dog Betsy who is more than a little unpredictable. Jack is attracted to Harmony, daughter of the former managing partner Humphrey Piper who is found dead stuffed in a suitcase in his Japanese hotel room and from then the bodies begin to pile up. Jack is surprised to meet up with Mark a policeman who is investigating the murders. They had once shared foster parents and work together to search for Harmony, if she is still alive. Suspicion falls on one person after another and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.
When I chose to review All Good Things by Rosemary Reeve I noticed there were further books in the series and after reading this one, I shall go and look for the others. I really enjoyed the story, it kept me guessing right until the end. I was impressed with the quality of the writing. The chase scenes were exciting and very realistic, this author takes you on a roller coaster ride. Jack is an endearing character, I loved the interactions with his mother and with Betsy the dog. After a difficult start in life, bounced from one foster home to another, Jack succeeds in qualifying to work in a law firm in Seattle and his love for Harmony in the next office is sweet and tender. He is a kind, gentle soul you can’t help but love. A well-constructed story, that moves swiftly and keeps the reader turning the pages. Five stars from me without a doubt.
I was not expecting it! Who was the killer? There are enough twists and turns to start a roller coaster. Ms. Reeve asks in her book club questions; when did you know who the killer was? It was a total surprise. I looks like this novel has been around since 1996; that's why no cell phones, and it is still pulling in very high ratings on Amazon. Well worth the read, highly reccomended.
It is a great suspense story. Till the end you will not know why and how Harmony vanished; and why it is called a Jack Hart mystery, if the story is about Harmony. This is one such book which I enjoyed very much. The author has done a great job.

All Good Things is a crime fiction novel written by Rosemary Reeve. The story revolves on a controversy faced inside a law firm where Jack Hart was working. One ordinary day, Harmony Piper, who was the granddaughter of the firm’s founder, didn’t go to work and there was something unusual about it. First, it is not her habit leaving anyone uninformed in her absence. And second, there was a trace of blood at her office. Jack can't avoid thinking of the worst, however, he cannot just conclude that something bad happened. No calls, no traces of Harmony then a terrible news arrived. Her father, who went on a business trip, was found dead. Jack believes that these instances were more than just a coincidence and he needs to act sooner.
I must say that this is a well-written book. Reading the first chapter already gave me an impression that I could finish it quickly. There was no beating around the bush. The sequence of the investigation was well placed. All the angles of the crime were presented neatly and vigorously. And of course, it gave me a sense of confusion in determining who the culprit was. This is one of those books that won’t give you a time to warm up (in a good way). No introductory of the characters prior to the intrigue, but these were done in parallel. Read it and you are already inside a crime.
Aside from having a good plot, readers can also expect lots of fun banters and scenes. Even in a weighty situation humor will just come. It has a good amount of romance and I am definitely looking forward to seeing it in the next series. I also appreciate that it has ‘short chapters’ that I prefer as a reader.
Jack Hart, the charming and smart lawyer, made this book enjoyable. I really like that he’s honest and very open to the cops. It gave me a sense of relief knowing that Jack won’t be the cause of an error or you won’t blame him by not saying what’s on his mind. He avoids ignoring even the little details because he knows that it is crucial in finding Harmony even without the certainty that she’s still alive. Jack’s scene in Chapter 24 is frightening and heart-stopping, but he always uses his mind in such critical situation.
Mark was also likeable character. He understands Jack very well, comprehends his reasoning and his suspicions. He also has this trustworthy persona.
I have encountered numerous characters, but it doesn’t make the story overcrowded as they were inserted appropriately. I also noticed that most of the characters commonly came from an imperfect childhood and born by an irresponsible parent. There’s so much of it, but it does not necessarily tarnish the story. Another thing was the revelation of Harmony’s father on the latter part that I think is not needed or is okay without it. I did find minor issues such as one misspelled name, some missing quotation and unnecessary underlined/bold words.
This is the first book of this series Jack Hart. I have not read anything by this author Rosemary Reeve but I will be looking for more. I really enjoyed this audiobook. Jack Hart is an associate at a large law firm in Seattle. Jack owns a crazy dog named Betsy who at first I was like this dog is too much to handle but you soon come to love the crazy dog. So much is going on in this book and all of it is good. I will be looking into other books in this series. The narrator of this book was Noah DeBiase and he does a wonderful job of narating I hope he does the next book in the series too. I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
While it wasn’t intense enough to get my heart pounding, it was a complex enough mystery that I never guessed the answers. The writing style reminded me of the “Cat Who...” mysteries I used to read when I was young, with the same heartwarming quality added to the drama. The main character was endearing enough that I will probably read the other books in the series to see what else he gets up to.
Mystery, romance, modern, and mayhem. What’s not to love?
Good story line, interesting characters, a law firm, working in the wee hours, and a silly stray dog named Betsy. Only reason I did not give this 5 stars because a line or 2 were repeated back to back as a typo.
Since Jack Hart appears in a series, I am anxious to read the next one. Maybe I will see Melody in the next one too. Is there a wedding down the road? Keep it interesting, Ms. Reeves.
I wanted to start this series from the beginning to see where this character came from. The main character is not a former alcoholic or troubled military vet as so many protagonists are in this genre. The characters are believable in this initial installment. Well written, fast paced. Will definitely keep reading the series.
Wonderful writing! Terrific character building . The story line was well thought out. I loved the author's use of language. So grateful for an author who doesn't use profanity or vulgarity. Thank you Rosemary Reeve!
I read book two first so I had to go back and read book one. The series is a great mix of mystery, detective and lawyer with a little bit of romance thrown in. A real page turner with some great book club questions at the end
I read all four of these novels, one after another. The three main characters (well, four, if you count the dog) are delightful. The mysteries are intricate. The writing is fast paced, and you can read one in a day or two. Being a Seattleite, I especially loved the references to Seattle places and events.
I recently wrote a review for All Good Things by Rosemary Reeve, which I did exclusively for OnlineBookClub.org. I would really appreciate it if you could give my review a read by clicking this link https://forums.onlinebookclub.org/vie...
I really enjoyed this satisfying steady paced murder mystery novel. It’s propelled by a talented narrator who really knows how to deliver. I found it to be as light or as heavy of a listen as I wanted it to be. If I missed a detail or two because I was distracted, it didn’t take away from me enjoying the story....yet no details appeared were wasted so I think if I listened again I’d find new things I missed!
I think one of the most lovely things of this book was the way Jack thought of Harmony. It lent a romantic undertone to the storyline I loved.
I really cannot speak highly enough of the narrator, it’s what attracted me to the book in the first place. He makes a great Jack!
There's very little courtroom drama in this story, but quite a lot of realistic suspense. This is a light mystery with little or no sex or strong language. The characters are well developed and interesting enough to make this a series worth following. And they are appropriately voiced by Noah DeBiase.
NOTE: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
